Automated forwards broken--manual forwards ok (WHY?) REDUX

I never received an answer from here (forum) or Apple on why my automated forwards (ie, using a rule to forward an email message) were broken, while manually forwarding the same message worked fine. I resolved the issue, in part, by using the "redirect" option instead. I thought posting this 'solution' might save someone else the silent treatment.

Thanks for the reply.
No, two different entities. I have several emails sent to me daily from different professional organizations. They come to my home address which is in the Comcast domain. If I manually forward them to my corporate office (which has a private domain and uses XP with Outlook Exchange server), they appear fine. If I create a rule to forward them, they appear broken (ie, html code is broken and the page will not display). The only variable in the equation is the manual forward vs the automated one.
Not a biggie, however, now that I am using the 'Redirect' command in my rules. I have no idea why the application is behaving this way.
Thanks

  • Automator still broken - mp3s classed as 'documents' and other "quirks"

Without going into rant mode, it appears that automator is broken.
Can anybody explain why, amongst other things which make absolutely no sense, it thinks that .mp3 files are documents?
I have been trying to use folder actions to keep my downloads folder organised, which used to work fine (albeit with a few quirks if I recall) back in Tiger, but I haven't been able to get work since Leopard/ Snow leopard .
Just checking there isn't something specifically wrong with my machine before I file a bug report, which I'm pretty sure I did in leopard and then in snow-leopard too.

Well, mp3 files are documents for those applications that handle them, just as text files are documents for applications that handle text.  I think what is being filtered are document files (vs applications and folders) - there are additional filters for various document types, such as music.

  • Some emails will not allow forwarding. Why not

Some emails that I try to forward say it won't allow forwarding. Is this a security measure from the sender.?

Sort of. They have the standard email security statement on the bottom.. Lawyer speak. Do you think they have something imbedded that won't allow forwarding?

  • Why (redux)

I perused the other posts under "why" and "finally got a MacBook..." and did not find the question answered that I have.
I had one of the first Apple II computers. (OK, fine. Now you know I'm really old.) Then went to the Mac Plus (as my avatar indicates); then on to whatever the latest Mac was in 1996; then I switched to PC (right in the middle of doing my dissertation, no less). I ran the Mac and PC both for a couple more years, then, finally the (Motorola) Mac I had just wasn't cutting it, and...well, you know the MS siren song.
A few days ago, I gave into a **** to return to the Mac. I became the owner of MacBook Pro. (2GB 557 DDR2 SDRAM 2x 1GB, 2.16 GHz Core Duo--there would be no excuses for success!).
Here's my problem. I think I made a mistake. I think this machine is not a good match for an old biddie who is into writing and text and streaming classical music--not video/gaming/photo stuff. This new machine is not faster than my aging Sony Vaio (four years old, 1.5 GHz processor, 760 MB ram upgraded). Am I really out of my element with this machine? I have other "problems" with this new Mac, but what I'm really asking is how to go forward...
What can I do with this machine? How can I really take advantage of all it can do? I need ideas/help. I need to feel good about this (huge$$$) acquisition. I need to feel I can do things with this machine I could not do with the Vaio. I have buyer's remorse, big time. But I want to be happy. I want to make my peace with this MacBook. (After all--I had one of the FIRST!!!)
Is there anyone willing to help me out of this slump?
    Hopefully,
    s h a r o n

you're probably going to get more answers if you posted this in the MacBook Pro forum instead of this one. someone in that forum may know specifics on how to get the best performance.

  • If I plug my iPhone into a computer, and just want to play non-manually managed music, why does that computer have to be authorized?

My home base computer has been authorized to play music my friend has downloaded from iTunes.  I can upload that music to my iPhone and play it on the phone without any issue.  When I am at work, I plug my iPhone into my computer and play music through my work computer.  But the music is not manually managed, nothing is being stored on that computer, it simply streams through to the headphone jack, allowing me to use iTunes as a control panel for the phone's music library.
I can play my own music just fine (because my work computer is authorized for my account).  But I can't play my friend's music, because my work computer isn't authorized for HIS account.  Nor should I expect him to waste one of his 5 authorizations on my work computer.
But why does it need to be so?  If I'm already authorized to play his songs on my iPhone, then what difference does it make if it's streaming through my work computer or not?  Why does Apple care, and why are my music playing rights being unnecessarily infringed?  I am currently a very unhappy iTunes customer because of this.
We don't have to buy music from iTunes you know.  If I buy the CD, I can upload it without any of these play rights issues.  I can give my friend my CDs while he gives me his and all of this goes away.  The harder and more user unfriendly playing music from the iTunes Store becomes, the less likely we'll be to buy it.  This is a very simple fix.  If my home base computer is authorized and I can put music on my iPhone, I should be able to play that music off the phone anywhere at any time, so long as I'm not making a copy.  And I am not making copies.  Fix this or we shop elsewhere.

I spent an hour on the phone w/ apple support this morning. I went through all the trouble shooting and it appears everything is working fine...until you plug the phone in and try to use itunes. Then they put me on hold for 20 min. While they did this i had a guy at work who had an older version of itunes on his cpu plug my phone in. Voila! It popped right up in iTunes. Their product specialist told me to uninstall and reinstall iTunes 8.2. Didn't work. Then they told me to uninstall and reinstall an older version of iTunes. That way I could get music on my phone, but I would not be able to update to the newest version of the iPhone OS. That's great and all, but it really hasn't solved any problems. I'm giving apple the benefit of the doubt due to the fact they just released the newest version of itunes, a new iphone, and a new iphone OS; so there's bound to be bugs and fixes. But that goodwill probably won't last to long. So if they won't fess up to the fact there's a problem w/ the new iTunes soon and fix it I guess they're going to have to give me a new phone.

  • Automator action broken

Hi - I think this is an Automator problem rather than a STP one, but maybe someone here can help. I use Automator for one thing and that is to save audio file projects as AIFFs. I have upgraded to Leopard (couldn't stop myself!!). Everything works wonderfully well, except that one action. All other save actions from other apps work, all other STP actions work. Just not "Save File". Can anyone here check if it works for them? I do not see a way to manually edit the action - I tried for hours yesterday to find an answer - I even did a completely clean install and reinstalled Studio 2 - but no luck. I ended up manually saving over 300 files, and I have many more to do. Thanks in advance for any help - and I know I should have waited!!
    Martin

Removed "Get Selected Finder Items" and worked fine.

  • "Automation" is too manual - is there a better way?

I'm using automation to apply different effects (echo, reverb, etc) at various points in my track - but I can't believe I have to keep doing the same thing manually every time I want to change effects at each point. Is there a better way to apply the same automation of effects to various points (or regions) in the track?
    Thanks in advance!

    OMG...HangTime - you saved me a TON of work...THANKS!!!
    Nice site btw, well done

  • Is the Azure DB automated export broken?

Recently I twice carefully adjusted the schedule of the  Automated export of my Azure DB to my storage account.  However, each time it created a new database instead.  I am 100% sure I correctly adjusted the schedule as I have done a number
of times before. Apparently, the Automated export feature is broken.
    Mike McIver

    Hi Mike,
    Thanks for posting here.
Do you get any error messages on your email. Please specify.
When configure automated export operations for a SQL database, the account must be a server-level principal login  or a member of the dbmanager database role. Please check the server login your sepcify in Automated Export configure tab.
What's more, Windows Azure Services has to be allowed to access the database. Windows Azure will first do a full copy of the database to a temporary database prior to creating the .bacpac file. To enable this, go to the "Configure" tab for the
database server and make sure the switch is set to "Yes".
I suggest you to follow these steps and let us know if the issue still persists.
    Schedule an Automated Export
    Log on to the
    Azure Management Portal.
In the navigation pane, click on
SQL Databases. In the list view of SQL databases, click the name of the database you would like to schedule for automated exports.
Click the Configure tab, and then on
    Export Status, click Automatic.
On the Automated Export work space, specify settings for the following parameters:
    Storage Account
    Frequency
Specify the export interval in days.
Specify the start date and time. The time value on the configuration work space is UTC time, so note the offset between UTC time and the time zone where your database is located.
    Retention
Credentials for the server that hosts your SQL database. Note that the account must be a server-level principal login - created by the provisioning process - or a member of the
    dbmanager database role.
When you have finished configuring the export settings, click
    Save.
You can see the time stamp for the last export on under
Automated Export in the Quick Glance section of the
    SQL Database Dashboard.
You can see the status and history of a scheduled export operation on the
History tab of the server Quick Start page.
To change the settings for an automated export, select the SQL database, click the
Configure tab, make your changes, and then click Save.

  • "Ask for Finder Items" Automator action broken?

OK, I'm pulling my hair out on Automator (again). I'm on OS X Lion 10.7.1.
Here's what I want to do: I have image files named "something-something (S1).png" and I want to create a copy of each file named "something-something (S2).png" then resize that copy to 50% the size of the original. A perfect choice for Automator, I would have thought.
So here's the workflow I came up with:
    1. Ask for Finder Items: Type set to Files and Allow Multiple Selection checked.
    2. Duplicate Finder Items: To create a copy, hopefully named "something-something (S1) copy.png".
    3. Rename Finder Items: Set to Replace Text, with Find set to "(S1) copy" and Replace set to "(S2)" (in basename only).
    4. Scale Images: Set to By Percentage 50.
I would have thought that would have worked. Trouble is, it doesnt even get to first base. When I run the workflow I see the expected choose file dialog, and I choose a test PNG file. Then Automator happily announces that "Ask for Finder Items completed" in the log, and proceeds to sit .. and sit ... and sit. It says it's running, but nothing is happening. No duplicate file action happens, no rename .. nothing. Oh, and yes, I do see the selected filename in the "Results" area for the Ask for Finder Items action.
What's going on? Any ideas? For a supposedly intuitive tool I find automator inscrutable (and I'm a 30 year seasoned operating system oftware developer).
    TIA,
    --Tim

FWIW, if you've found a bug, please contact Apple Support folks or (if you have access) use the BugReport tool.

  • IPhoto Automator actions = broken and useless

It's already been established that in order for iPhoto's most useful action, "get selected iPhoto items", to work in 10.4.3, you have to install a third-party fix.
Today, I discovered that when the action is run on a Raw file, it retrieves a jpeg preview copy of the file instead of the actual image. For example, if I dragged a Raw photo from iPhoto to my desktop, I would see DSC_0038.nef (or whatever) on my desktop. But if I make an Automator workflow that copies a photo to the desktop, I end up with DSC_0038.jpeg.
This means it is impossible to make a useful workflow with Raw files and iPhoto.
If anyone knows of a fix, it would be most appreciated.

    Paul:
You might post your question in the Automator forum. There's probably more Automator users there that can help.

  • Error -2147467262 "No such interface supported" when open an ActiveX automation reference to proprietary DLL, why?

I got the error -2147467262 "No such interface supported" when open an ActiveX automation reference to a proprietary DLL. I check the forum which suggested solutions related to comcat.dll and IE6.0. I also tried to re-reqister the dll by regsvr32.exe, still does not work. However, I did nto get any luck. I was told that the DLL support iDispatch interface and should work ok with ActiveX in labview. Any suggestions? I appreciate it.

    Hello, Nandini,
I am using the WinXP and I am calling the DLL provided by Pirouette for their chemometrics software. I just solved the error -2147467262, but the new error comes out is :
Error code: -2147467259 Exception occured in IxAsObjs.CoSIMCAPredict.1, Language Server QueryInterface failed: No such interface supported.
Here is a few word for the problem from priouette:
" just a few more words that might help you understand the nature of the problem. your LabView client talks to AlgSuite.dll using IDispatch interfaces AlgSuite.dll communicates with the language server on an IUnknown interface.
Your client knows nothing about the internal workings of AlgSuite.AlgSuite communicating with objects that do not have IDispatch interfaces should be irrelevant to your client."
Since the VB demo works fine in my machine, so they though it is percular to labview. Any comments? I appreciate it.

  • Update never completes - always "connecting to update server" I can do manual update but why doesn't auto-update work?

I have this same problem with three machines (all linux - different versions of linux & firefox). Yes, I could do a manual update. But, I would like to get the issue with auto-update sorted out. I have a common network setup: private IP (192.168.15.xxx) on a router connected to COMCAST. There is a firewall but no proxy.

Thanks cor-el! Your question about how it was installed was spot on. It was installed as root (I always do that for an app like Firefox so that it is available to all users. That is also the default when installing apps with yum or other package managers). The solution is to run firefox as root (''kdesu firefox'') so that it has access to the installation folder for writing. I selected Help -> about firefox and it updated right away.
The error for the mozilla people is in not detecting and either handling (asking for root privileges) or reporting the problem instead of hanging up in an infinite loop.
    Thank you.

  • KMS is broken, not really sure why

    Hi All,
In my network and it appears we have two KMS servers- one Physical and one Virtual
Clients are losing their Office 2010 validation - I have looked in the Event Viewers on both servers, all I see is requests for KMS service, events 12290 - an activation request has been processed.
I have run the SLMGR.vbs /dlv from both KMS hosts and will attach them here. (well, I tried. My account hasn't been verified yet. I'll post ASAP)
I am at home this evening and don't have access to any KMS client machines to look for any Event 12288 and 12289's.
Would looking for those Event IDs be my next logical step?
All new to this KMS territory, any help is appreciated!

Before you start running commands on the KMS server, see what the clients are using and see what is in DNS.  Check the client connectivity to the KMS servers.
    TO CHECK ON DNS:
    nslookup -type=srv _vlmcs._tcp
or specify the full domain name:
    nslookup -type=srv _vlmcs._tcp.yourdomain.local
TO CHECK WHAT YOUR CLIENTS ARE USING:
In an elevated command prompt, type:
    SLMGR.VBS /DLI
And read what is cached for KMS server
TO CHECK WHAT YOUR CLIENTS ARE USING FOR OFFICE:
In an elevated command prompt, type:
    OSSP.VBS /DHISTORYKMS
    OSSP.VBS /DSTATUS
This will show what server activated Office
    Reference other commands
    HERE
To test connectivity, I recommend downloading PORTQRY
In an elevated command prompt, type:
    Portqry -n <kmsserver> -e 1688
    The result should be "LISTENING"
After you try all these, you should have found your problem.  If you need help, let me know.

You've got a lot of things going on in that log so you really need to be more specific as to which client system you are talking about.
For this log message "Unable to connect to WMI on remote machine "XD-55012", error = 0x80070005"
    0x80070005 = "Access Denied"
For WIN7X64-DEV4, it looks like client push was successful.
