  • How to obtain Windows 7 or 8 for Macbook Retina (needs to be ISO format)

    Hi all!
I am trying to buy a copy of Windows (either 7 or 8) for my Macbook Retina so that I can Boot Camp it. However because there is no optical drive for the retina model, the OS needs to be in ISO format. Can anyone provide any suggestions as to how I can obtain a legit download of Windows? The Microsoft website appears to only provide upgrade options. Any assistance is much appreciated.

My Digital Life has ISOs of Win 7. You BUY a copy of Windows 7 with license key then download the same version, Home/Pro/Ultimate, from the My digital life site and use the license key that came with your Retail copy.
Or find someone that has a PC and create your own ISO from the DVD disc.

  • HELP!!!!!! Need to create recovery disc for hdx laptop in Vista

I have been told by HP that I can create a recovery disc right from my computer.  Really ...... please someone tell me where and how.  Right now there is nothing wrong with my PC but I have been stupid and forgot to create it previously.
As an added note, so I can vent, my service pak ran out last month, which HP did not remind me of with an email like they alwasy do, and the guy I spoke to was no help with that.  He said there was nothing I could purchase now.  Also, I was told by more than one person that I had lifetime chat support online ...... well that's a lie too I found out.  So, they will not help me at all now!!!!!!!!!  The guy also told me the reason I did not probably get an email was becasue the support for this laptop ended in August and it will become obsolete this coming August.  That is probably the reason he said.  Wow why did I buy a HP computer and not a Dell.  When I had my Dell I called like more than 10 years after buying the computer and received phone based technical help on it still and no I did not have an extended warranty at the time.  They gave lifetime technical assistant via phone.  Looks like I may have to switch back.  Sorry HP but my experience has been less than good.

This document should help with the how to part of making the recovery disks.
I have raised your post to the appropriate team for review. Someone should contact you via private message within two days.

  • Recovery Disc For My Laptop

I was wondering if I really needed to create a recovery disc for my laptop.  I created a disc under the "Getting Started" section under my "Start" button labeled "Back up your Files."  Isn't that enough?

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion g6-2204tx Notebook Computer. Please see Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a USB Flash Drive (Windows 8) for information on making your personal set of HP Recovery Discs. You can also contact HP in your region to purchase a set of discs.

Hello- My laptop needs the OS X recovery run. Can I download the software directly to a thumb drive without affecting my desktop unit? The Geek Squad said they need to wipe my hard drive and re-install the operating system. Thanks.

They already damaged you Mac by fooling with the BootCamp partition without knowing what they were doing. I wouldn't suggest haveing them help you do anything.
Here is the article that describes the Recovery HD: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
First, see if you can boot into the Recovery HD. Restart and hold down cmd-r until you see the gray screen. It should boot into Recovery. If your Mac shipped with Lion or Mountain Lion, it will boot into Internet Recovery if it cannot boot into the Recovery HD on the hard drive.
They should have tried this at the store.

  • Bios Recovery For ideapad laptops!!

Goodevening, goodafternoon or goodmorning, whatever it implies for you.Today i would like to share some information on recovering bios after bios update failure or bad bios. Please follow the following steps.Disclaimer:- This would work for laptops with signs of life but may work for dead laptops.Download pheonix crisis tool and the respective bios files first. Now extract the zip file to the desired locationRun the bios .exe application where it will extract the main bios file. Go there and rename the bios file For.ex 30cn71ww.wph from that folder to bios.wph.Copy the Renamed bios file to the folder where you extracted the pheonix crisi tool.( extract it with wincrisis.exe file).Plug the usb stick ( not more than 4 gb or about 2-4 gb )Run wincris.exe > start > ok > ok > noNow plug the usb in the affected laptop and remove any power source such as battery and ac adapter.Hold Fn+R or Fn+f or Fn+B or Win+B key and then plug in adapter. Just after Plugging in the ac adapter, Press the power button .After this you will see the usb light blinking and hear the the fan running(yippe!!)You will then hear beep sound indicating that the bios is bieng reflashed. Leave the computer for about 5-10 Minutes. It will automatically restart. If it doesnt then restart the laptop manually. If everything went well then yippe your laptop is back and the bios recoverd with flying colours. This has been tested with the Lenovo Ideapad Y560 and it was suucesful!!!Hope this helps!!!Regards

    UPDATE!!!!!
For the newer ideapads this method wont work because they have insyde bios. Below is link for the insyde bios recovery.

Restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All of the original partitions will be restored, including the recovery partition.
If no recovery discs were created, you can obtain them from Toshiba.
Toshiba Europe Backup Media Online Shop
For instructions, see the section Restoring the pre-installed software from your created Recovery Media on p. 4-18 of the User's Manual (attached).

  • How to repair Lion's Recovery HD partition? (Missing from boot menu but still there in Disk Utility)

Running a 2011 Macbook Air with Bootcamp (Win7).
The Recovery HD disappeared from boot menu after installing Windows 7.
The 650mb partition is still there (from Disk Utility "Show All Partitions") but cannot be accessed...
What should I do if I want to enable Filevault 2? It needs the Recovery HD partition right?
    Help!

The problem is Boot Camp:  It uses a hybrid GPT/MBR partitioning scheme - which ends up hiding the Recovery HD partition - which is an EFI physical partition (neither GPT nor MBR).
I would expect a new version of Boot Camp to release - like real soon - because of the Recovery HD partition invisibility issue.
In this article - it is suggested that rEFIt should be used to partition a hard drive that is going to support multiple boots including Mac OS X, LINUX, and Windows.
The key in the article to using Boot Camp with rEFIt is this:
"Run the Boot Camp Assistant and create the Windows XP driver cd. Then exit Boot Camp.  DO NOT PARTITION USING BOOT CAMP: you are only using Boot Camp for the drivers, not the partitioning."
All partitioning is done in terminal mode using the "diskutil" command.
rEFIt is used to update both the GPT and MBR records so that all partitions will be visible using its "gptsync" command.
Then - you replace the standard Mac boot menu with the rEFIt boot menu.  THAT will show the Mac OS X partition, Recovery HD (an EFI partition), and the Windows partition.
My caveat is that rEFIt - which is open sourced and available here:  http://refit.sourceforge.net
has not been recently updated and tested with respect to Mac OS X Lion.
    Hope this helps!

I purchased CS5 for my laptop and now want to use it on my Mac book too. Do I need to buy a separate license?

Serial numbers are platform specific. You cannot use a PC license on Mac and vice versa. You would need to run a platform swap to use it on a Mac and upgrade to CS6, but then would lose the PC license. Therefore you eitehr need to buy a separate license for the Mac or join Creative Cloud.

You could try a SMC reset:

If no change, do what Allan advises.

Holy crap, I got it to work.
Essentially, I just waited until DiskWarrior reached Step 9 and told it to skip the step before it had a chance to freeze. It skipped successfully, moved on, rebuilt and replaced the faulty directory files.
So far the computer is booting like normal, I can log in, and I'm currently copying all of the data to an external as I type this.
I still have no idea why the computer wouldn't mount or boot to any drive, but I guess I'll deal with that later.

  • I want to connnect my early 2012 MBP to my LG HDMI. I have the HDMI cable. What connector do I need for the laptop?

Please give me the name of the connector for the laptop. Is it a "display port"?

Note that you'll find two alternatives: one that has a TB plug at one end and a little box with a female HDMI jack at the other or a cable that has male TB and HDMI plugs at both ends. First one gives you the flexibility of using a standard HDMI cable of whatever length you need, at an extra cost. Second simplifies things and eliminates one connection (and possible point of failure), but may limit how far away you can place the computer from the display.
