Automated Save for web + All user slices + Preset?

I've got a large PSD templade filled with web slices, each containing web button graphics.
These are always saved in three states: "-off", "-on" and "-active" in .png format.
To speed things up, I've prepared:
* 3 "Layer comps" (that toggles layers on/off and adjusts visibility/effects)
* 3 "Save for web settings" that appends the "-off", "-on", "-active" suffix etc
However, each time I want to update these three sets (and that is often!) I have to jump through hoops to get it done... applying layer comp + File > Save for web + selecting "all user slices" and "preset" + confirm overwrite.
After a few hundred times it gets tiresome :-)
Bottomline:  Is there any way to make an action, or similar to do all this in a single keystroke?
Robert K

I don't know why I didnt't think of this already
It works a treat, at least with CS4 (haven't tried it elsewhere).
I ended up doing three actions for each of "off", "on" and "active". The action only toggles the appropriate Layer State, than Save for Web. It seems that only User slices are saved, and no dialogs or anything flashes by.
Great! Thanks.

  • CS5 save for web bug with slices 1 png, the rest gif

Do me good forum, this is my first post from 112 degree AZ.
I'm trying to "save for web" slices in illustrator cs5. I optimize the images to transparent .png in the sidebar in the save for web dialog box. Then I click save. And I do the "user slices" option in the NEXT dialog (hello complicated process, but it makes sense to me). 5 slices should be output. 5 are. But only one is a png. The rest are gif files. And not transparent.
That makes me to throw an anvil through the floor of the USS(R) Adobe.
But rather than going through such extreme measures, I'd figure I'd post first.
I guess in the time I researched and wrote this post, I could have saved each individual slice with the proper optimization settings, but what fun would that be? And maybe I'm just plain missing somthing and someone will say, hey "footheadleg" your a total moron. The checkbox to save ALL the slices for your desired setting is at blah blah blah.
Do it. Shame me. And then, my problem will be fixed at last. MUwhwhwhwahahahaa.
FREE GIFT: cmd+shift+d changes illustrators white artboard to transparent pixels. I learned that becasue I thought maybe I had a white layer showing on accident. I didn't. That's because I'm perfect. Perfectly human.

Footheadleg, you have so much to learn, and so little time. Let me teach you my ways. Though while on Illustrator's main canvas it may seem that you can change settings of each slice, you can't. I know, there are little icons top left of each image, one looks like an email symbol, and it would seem you could just email the slice to a friend.
Pretty soon you'll be able to "Like" the slice on Facebook. Or post it to your del.i.cious account. Or tweet it. Or 17,000 other VERY VALUABLE shares. But Footheadleg, these symbols mean nothing to you, except that they are slices.
HOWEVER, when in "save for web" mode, you can in fact change the settings of each slice. Here's what you do. Press k. (slice tool selector thingie) then hop over to the sidebar and click on the settings you want. Do this for EACH slice. I know, it would seem easier if there was a checkbox that said "apply to all slices," but why make things easy?
Plus, Illustrator is a rad program, so don't knock it, unless you can design something better. And you can't. So get over yourself and enjoy the pain
    Yours truly,
    Yourself.

  • Automating save for web

    Hi,
Is there a way of using automator to do the same thing as Photoshop's 'Save for web' function?
I've tried setting up a 'scale' function for automator, but it leaves the images far too big (i.e. a 640x320 image is around 12k using Photoshop but 158k when just scaling with automator).
Ideally, there's a way I can do it without Photoshop...any ideas?
    Thanks

I'd Get GraphicConverter gives even more options...

It has a powerful Batch option if you wish to do a bunch at one fell swoop.

  • Save for Web & Devices Box Greyed Out

    Hey everyone,
I'm trying to save a Photoshop CS4 file for Web & Devices so I can have Photoshop compile the slices and the CSS so I can hand-design rollovers. Unfortunately, all of a sudden the dialogue box for Save For Web & Devices is greyed out... I've check online, changed color profiles, deleted save for web and devices library files, updated Photoshop, nothing. I've even checked past .psds I've designed that I've saved for Web & Devices and haven't changed since--even the Web & Devices box is greyed out for them. Help! What do I do? I need to do this before Friday. Thank you!

    Hi
I'm also having the same problem with the Save for Web & Devices Box Greyed Out.
I think it's the plugin that's corrupt,  as I've tried deleting preferences and seetings. I can't find the photoshop cd to  reinstall it.
Has anyone got the MAC CS4 Photoshop "save for web  plugin" (Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Plugins/Adobe Save for Web CS4/Photoshop/Adobe Save for Web CS4 Prefs) that they could send me.
    Thanks very much

    thanks,

I had the same issue. Running in a non-admin account I was unable to do a Save for Web. I switched to my admin account and it worked there. When I switched back to my non-admin account it now works ok. As an aside, same situation with changing the program icon for PSE 8.

    Hi
I've been having problems with my save for web function freezing, so I deleted my preferrences , settings, accidently deleted my save for web plugin. Photoshop save for web was still greyed out. I then restarted my computer and the save for web is still greyed out.
Any sugessions on what I can do to activate "save for web" again would be much appreciated.

  • Photoshop slice tool and Save for Web image quality. Will it affect prints?

I want to slice a large photo into multiple smaller (4x6) printable photos to arrange in a 12x12 inch scrapbook binder pocket (made of of 4x6 pockets). I need to order separate 4x6s online so tiling in the print options is not what I need.
The slow way I know to do this involves cropping and saving each section (maybe even recording this action to do batch processing). However, another way is to use the slice tool to quickly divide up the sections then "Save for Web...". I can adjust some parameters, but I'm afraid there are other automatic adjustments that I don't want. For example, all images are converted to 96 dpi instead of the original 300 dpi. The number of pixels remains the same so I don't think there will be problems printing the picture.
My question is: does the Save for Web function reduce image quality in any way when printing (it is obviously intended to be used to optimize images for websites)? Are there settings in "Save for Web" that would optimize for high quality prints? Is there a better way to tile an image?
I have not yet compared any prints.
    W7
    CS6

If you understand that something will do something you do not want like convert to 96 DPI as long as it does not resample you can always convert back to 300 DPI. If you want 6 4x6 to form a 12x12 you must start with an square 1:1 aspect ratio image. That you resample to 12"x 12" at 300 dpi if you want 6 4x6 300 dpi images.
If the original images vary in size and aspect ratio you need to crop them square or add two borders to make them square.   The rest is easy to do with an action.
The square crop or border can be automated with a little scripting.  If crop  a center crop would be the route to go. My crafting actions package contains  more the a dozen scripts to be used within action. One is a plug-in script that would make center cropping a snap two steps menu File>Automat>AspectsRatioSelection followed menu Image>Crop.  Add a menu Image>Size set side to 12" and resolution 300 DPI and you have your  starting 12"x12" 300 dpi image.
Flatten the image make your first 4"x6" selection copy past to add it as a layer. Select the background select the next 4x6 area copy and paste repeat that process till you have added the 6 4"X6" layers. Then delete the background, Select all, target all layers and use layer>Align layers to selection>Top edge then repeat align to left edge. the Image>Trim you have your 6 4x6 in a stack.   You can the use Adobe Photoshop Script Export Layer to file.   All automated in an action however the last step Export layers to files is interactive for its not a plug-in script. So if you batch it you keen to hang around to interact with the last step for each image.
You could also write you own export script that would not need human intervention to use instead of Adobe interactive script.

  • How do I USE the slices I generate in Illustrator from "Save for Web"?

I am having trouble understanding slices. I want to save a raster graphic from Illustrator that takes advantage of "slices" to put hyperlinks to certain labels. I am working on a map with about 20 links to a website describing recreation sites shown on the map.
I am able to do this by bringing my map as a graphic into InDesign, and setting up links to text or picture boxes there. I can export an interactive PDF of the map, and the PDF has live links.
but the client's web host can't post the PDF with active links. (client would have to link from a static image to a copy of the PDF on a separate website). We may do this as an interim measure.
So I'd like to go back and figure out how to use slices in Illustrator to do the same thing. I've seen web pages that have a series of sliced-up graphics; I wouldn't wish that on anyone but it's the solution I want to get to.
Illustrator tutorials and help describe how to set up slices, how to type in links in the "slice options" dialogue box (in objects/slices... pulldown menu). And describe how to "save for web" to generate JPEGs or GIFs of the individual slices.
My available options in AI CC 2014 (I checked in CS6 too) are to save the slices as images. (Helpful articles which say to save as HTML and Images...aren't helpful if I don't have that option).
I get a folder called images, that contains about 74 sliced JPEGs of various sizes and shapes. I don't see, nor see an option where I can ask to make...a file that pulls all these together into a single image, with clickable links. There's no HTML file (or way to create one that I can see).
What am I missing? What application would I use to toss this folder's contents together. Or how would I create the HTML or envelope file within Illustrator?
I have entered URLs for links in three or four different places but haven't found a way to export them in such a way that they are actually useful.
    Thanks for your help.
    Ben PEase

Thanks, I am a print guy, mostly. I've almost figured out CSS for my did-it-myself website, so buttons, actions, slices, etc. are new angles for me.  I am hip to the general concept that Adobe likes certain applications to do certain things. It was certainly easier to set up links from InDesign.
In what application would you suggest I DO foolishly create my interactions (raster graphic with multiple links? Does it work any better in Photoshop?  The client's web host does the web design (some sort of template thing)  so I don't believe I have the option of drawing hot-spots like is (was?) possible in Dreamweaver.
(That may be a question for the web host).
One of the problems with "discontinuing this functionality" is there are about half a dozen how-to guides online that suggest it is still possible to kluge a solution in AI (sometimes in older versions) and it's hard to tell well-executed funtionality from abandoned functionality since Adobe hides instructions in multiple, random dialogue boxes, and left so many of the pieces strewn about the current versions of AI.... How would we really know?  But I am not all that surprised they did.

  • Image resize quality not saved in Save For Web Preset?

    L.S.,
I have been working on an Action to create 12 separate PNG's for further use in my icon-software. What I do is basically this:
Start out with a 256x256px image, save it for web four times in steps from 256, 48, 32 and 16px, (32-bit)
apply some masks / layers, save it for web again four times from 256-16px,  (8-bit)
set the mode to indexed colour / apply other masks and layers, and save it for web again from 256-16px. (4-bit)
I let the sizing be done in the Save for Web step.
The 256-sized pics give me no problem as they are not scaled down.
The 32-bit pics give me no problem as they are scaled down, and antialias comes along, but they have 8-bit transparency: no problem.
In the 8-bit and 4-bit versions from 48-16px, I definitely want no antialias in the sized down versions. So I set the resize quality to 'Nearest Neighbor'.
However, Photoshop seems not to be able to remember different resize qualities in one Action.
In every Save for Web-action that I do, when I set it to resize, it does so. But the resize quality is not taken from the setting. It seems to be taken from the last used or recorded setting.
    That is pretty annoying, because:
    - When I let the downscaled ones of the first 4, be downscaled 'bicubic sharper'
    - And I let the downscaled ones of the second 4, and third 4, be downscaled 'nearest neighbor'
Next time I run the Action, all downscaling is done by 'nearest neigbor'. That ruins my downscaled 32-bit icons - they get jaggy.
If I alter the steps in the action manually and set the first ones to 'bicubic sharper' again, suddenly all downscaled ones are done by 'bicubic sharper'.
That ruins my downscaled 8-bit and 4-bit icons: they get antialias, to lime green, and that shows...
I can save Presets in the Save For Web dialog, but as the groupbox already tells me: these presets only apply to the Image quality parameters, not to the sizing parameters. Those seem to be taken from the last run.
I have one alternative to this: before every Save for Web step, I downsize the image myself, and undo the history step after saving. It's quite some work and I would just rather see that the sizing parameters saved in the Preset!

That's never been saved as part of the S4W presets. Bloody annoying.

  • Slice Selection in Save for Web dialog in 17.1

Since upgrading to Illustrator 17.1 I can no longer select slices in the Save for Web dialog, nor can I select a slice on a different layer than the one it was created on. Anyone else seeing this issue?

    Hi everyone,
Our apologies for the inconviences. The product team is currently investigating the bug and is looking into providing a fix in the near future.
In the meantime, please try the suggestions provided by Nolanco or jwsiddons as workarounds.
    Nolanco:
In the save for web window if the image is bigger than window, zoom-out to view all artboard (Fit on Screen or less percentage), in this way is possible select any slice, when the image if bigger than window the wrong behavior take place.
    jwsiddons:
My work around has been to use the slice select tool inside the artboard and go with File > Save Selected Slices.
    Thanks,
    Amy

  • Slices in Save for Web not highlighting when selected in Photoshop CS5.5

Lately I've just noticed when I select slices in Save for Web the newly selected areas do not highlight in their normal yellow colour. They are however selected and save correctly if I do save them. If I toggle slice visibility off and back on again they selected slices become highlighted but it's kind of a pain. Have I done something to cause this or is this a known issue with one of the updates?

  • Save for web as PNG-24 with slices is saving in JPEG format!

    Hello all.
I'm using Photoshop Extended CS6 13.0.1 x64 and when I save for web as PNG-24, all the slices from the project, the final result are JPEG format pictures. I tried the same but exporting as GIF and it keeps saving as JPEG. I tried Save As instead of Save for Web and it works, but this way I'm not saving by slice and not for web.
    Any idea why this happens?

Found the solution. I had to select all the slices.

  • Is it possible to preset to JPEG High when using 'Save for Web...'?

    Hi,
I am using photoshop elements 10. When I am ready to save an image under 'SAVE FOR WEB..' can I preset it to 'JPEG HIGH' cos right now it will pop up 'GIF'.
When I am using PSE2, I am able to launch it as JPEG HIGH. Now, I have to click on the popdown menu to select 'JPEG High'.

You need to right-click on the PSE desktop icon and choose "Run as Administrator".
Then, open a file in PSE, use Save for Web and change all the settings to what you prefer. Hold down the Alt key and the "Done" button will change to a "Remember" button. Click it and then save your image. The settings will be saved and you do not have to run PSE as an administrator again.
