Automated Tasks in Photoshop or using Adobe Bridge

I have recently transfered to CS3 and am having problems using the automated tasks. Normally with CS2 i would select pictures in bridge and then hit the Tools-Photoshop-Image Processor to switch over a series of files from one format to another. When I try to do the same thing with CS3 nothing happens, the photoshop screen comes up empty and i do not get the image processor message. I would appreciate any advice. thanks

  • Why when using Adobe Bridge,  I apply a star rating,  the rating does not show up in Photoshop Elements? [tags]

Why when using Adobe Bridge,  I apply a star rating,   the rating does not show up in Photoshop Elements.  I use Elements as my organizer and Bridge to view as it is much more user friendly.  Anyone any solutions??

Most likely you have set the wrong file as the external editor. You don't want the obvious one; that's just a link to the welcome screen. Go back and choose this one, which is hidden away inside the folder Support Files:

I'm going to update my current set up. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Bridge. Do these come in a package together? What would be the best way to go about this upgrade?

Bridge comes with Photoshop but not with Elements.

  • Never used Photoshop CS6 nor Adobe Bridge CS6, on my drive. Trash them before using CC?

    I am a photographer.
I never used the Photoshop CS6 nor Adobe Bridge CS6, both of which are on my drive. I used Apple's Aperture software instead.
    a) should I trash them before downloading CC  (I don't see any Uninstall feature for them)? and,
    b) does Bridge come separately from the $9.90 plan?

Within the CC desktop app there should be and option to uninstall CS6.
If not, go to Hard Drive/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS6 and see if it is actually installed.

  • Using Adobe Bridge and iPhoto together

I use Adobe Bridge (and Photoshop) to work on my photos. iPhoto is not an option since I shoot in Camera RAW. I also own an Apple TV and want to store all of my photos in iPhoto so they are available to the rest of my family via Apple TV. Has anyone figured out a way to do image manipulation first in Bridge & Photoshop and then have them sent (or later updated) in iPhoto in an automated fashion?
Conceptually, every time I add or change a photo in Bridge or Photoshop, I'd like to convert it to JPG, and add or modify the image in iPhoto.

Also make sure PS's File handing preferences "Macimize PSD and PSB File Compatibility" is set to Always and that there are no alpha channels in the file. An alpha channel will cause the black image that you're referring to.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto: Using Adobe Bridge

I am presently using both iPhoto and FCPX. I only use iPhoto store the photos and images I use in albums. If I need to modify them I take them into Photoshop and then save them backin iPhoto. However, I now have about 5,000 images and feel a need to be able to sort them further and do more global commands on them (such as resize). For this, I really miss using Adobe Bridge. Is there a way to use Adobe Bridge with iPhoto?

Thank you. I am beginning to think I need to investigate exactly what and how much iPhoto really does. I didn't know it was this powerful. I will go to the link you gave me.
I think I am feeling overwhelmed with so many images because I need to find a good way to organize them via keyword (which I know iPhoto does - I just don't know how to select by keyword "yet").
I did like the capability in Bridge of selecting a lot of photos together and resizing them to all the same size in one command (via Photoshop).
I really do need a powerful photo manager so I need to understand how much iPhoto can do for me. I see I also have a lot of duplicates now so my initial idea of sorting by photo album name was not a good idea. I need to use keywords instead.
If iPhoto doesn't allow me to resize a batch of photos in one command, for the few times I need to do it, I can always export them into a folder and then do it in Photoshop because I would want to retain the photo in its original size anyway.
Now to the link you gave me . . .

  • Using Adobe Bridge file structure with iPhoto (latest version)

I use Adobe Bridge and have all my pics in named folders in Pictures/PICS/Folder Names.  Inside the PICS folder is the iPhoto Library (only a few pics in it).  Is there any way I can use the file structure I have set up with Bridge and iPhoto (latest) simultaneously?  I really dont want to import (copy) all my pics into IPhot because I am pretty sure I will end up with two versions of each.  I havent been able to manage pics manually the way I like to in older versions of iPhoto.

Here's some info to help you setup Photoshop for use with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note 1: screenshots are from PSE 10
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • When I use Adobe Bridge with PSE 8 is asks for my serial

I just launched Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac and chose to use Adobe Bridge to find images. Adobe Bridge opened and I found the image I wanted but when I double-clicked on the image a Photoshop Set-up dialogue box appears asking for my serial. So, I found my serial in my email because I bought the digital download and it says my serial is wrong. The weird thing is is that PSE is running and works fine. So why is Adobe Bridge asking me for my serial and rejecting it?
    thanks
    Jerry

Subversion is a program/system that stores files on a server, does versioning, etc. We use it principally for code management but also for our image files. It integrates into Windows explorer so you can check-in/check-out files, etc.
I was just wondering if there was a way to use Adobe Bridge as the front-end for it somehow.

Does Adobe Photoshop Elements include Adobe Bridge?  Or is that a separate purchase?

I don't have a recent version of Photoshop Elements. I have never seen anyone mentioning Bridge with PSE. Brigde is usually installed with Adobe CS Suites of software like the CS 5 Design Suite or CS 5 Production Suite or CS 6 Master Collection.

When you re-installed Photoshop, you also re-installed the version of Camera Raw which shipped with Photoshop - in other words you reverted to an older version of Camera Raw which does not support the D5100.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
The D5100 was first supported in Camera Raw version 6.4.
In Photoshop, click Help > Updates to update Camera Raw.

Because of this I do my search with windows and then browse each result with Bridge! which really annoying.

I solved the problem by going to the search field and clicking on the search icon where it will give a drop list of 3 options, then selecting Bridge Search: Current Folder and that solved my problem. thanks for everyone help

You can do a search of an external drive if the OS permissions are OK.  Bridge will not search across different drives however.

  • Keywords problem using Adobe Bridge CS5

    Hi,
I've a great many photos in numerous folders all found under one master folder.
Don't know if this is a flaw in the program or a fault on my part, but what I'm trying to do is keep my keyword list as I continue to add to it...regardless of when I happen to come back to Bridge...'and regardless of what photo I select.
Problem is, when I close out of Bridge and come back to a particular image, Bridge will show me only a portion of all the keywords I'd entered previously. My workaround involves browsing around to older images which happen to have all the keywords listed. (not meaning that all those keywords are applied to that photo, BUT, they're available). After doing so, the full list of keywords I've added in the past will now be available to any other image I select thereafter.
I hope I explained that correctly.
I always figured Adobe Bridge to be pretty intuitive and self explanatory but just now had a look at the CS5 Manual just to be sure I wasn't overlooking something. I couldn't find a solution.
Would appreciate any help in this regard.
    Thanks in advance.

Glad the problem is clear now
When I say at their disposal, I mean keywords from which to be applied to each file. When you create a brand new file, from where would I get the keywords? I certainly don't expect to enter each one individually over and over again for every file. At their disposal in my book would mean: available as a keyword to be applied to the image.
In the Bridge book this would mean they should be present in the keyword list that shows in the keyword panel. Like Curt stated the keywords that are already saved to a file but are not persistent to the list show in italic, usually at the bottom of the list under 'other keywords'.
When you need to save keywords to files (whether brand new or old) you only have to select the files you want to have those certain keywords and put a checkmark in front of the keyword from the keyword panel (persistent or italic both work but for the italic to show you have to have files with those keywords in the folder as you have found out yourself by now) and let bridge finish its task to save the data to the files.
You can create your own keyword list on the go when working and use the menu or right mouse menu in the keyword panel to create a new keyword or nested sub keyword. If you have created this word it will stay present in this list (persistent) but you can also create or edit your list in a simple text editor. A main keyword starts at the beginning of the line, hit return for a new line and 1 x tab to create a sub keyword to nest in the parent. Further nesting in done by return and an extra tab for each nested keyword.
You can also export the current keyword list using the little menu icon top right to the keyword panel and choose export. Save it with a proper name and open this file in a text editor to get the idea of tabs and lines.
Sadly enough I don't know a way to export non persistent keywords (italic) but maybe the scripting has a solution for you, if you want to make it persistent to the list you have to do so one by one.
If you have created your own keyword tree it is also wise to every now and then back it up using the export function. You can also import a new list either to add to your existing words or to clear current and use only the new one.
btw, going back to what you mentioned originally in as far as bridge needing time to apply a keyword and finish its task...that doesn't even exist on my end. I'm running off 16 gigs of memory and have allotted a huge number for bridge to work with.
But still, multitasking is not a Bridge gem, if you start assigning keywords from the keywords panel after a few seconds the arrow starts rotating and you have to wait for it being finished, no matter what specs you have (and I use 32 GB RAM on a 12 core processor using SSD…) as soon as the first task starts the keywords that are getting applied need time to save to the files. If you start a new job before it is finished only half of the keywords will be saved.

  • Are there advantages to using Adobe Bridge with Premiere Pro?

I frequently use pictures with my videos.  Normally, I use Windows Explorer with the picture viewer to browse for what I'd like to use.  I've experimented with Bridge, finding it to be a memory hog and slow.  It got me wondering - Are there advantages vs. Windows Explorer?

Bridge can be used to easily add hierarchical keywords to large amounts of clips (and afaik it's the only tool in the Adobe suit that can do hierarchical keywording with video files). Those keywords can then be used to find clips inside of Premiere. On large projects (1000+ clips) that can be a life saver.
Apart from this and the features you mentioned (the cross software color stuff is useless for video as of CS6), I did not find any use to Bridge for video. Plus as you said, it is a memory hog, slow and in my own experience unstable with /  not adapted to video.

  • Is it possible to manage FrameMaker files using adobe bridge?

I see that there is the option to add file info to a FrameMaker file in FM9, but this is not visible or usable in Adobe Bridge. Is there a way that this is in fact possible?
    Cheers.

As Jeff says Bridge isn't really used a lot by TCS folk. I'm not sure about the Creative Suite folk which is where this comes from originally. There is a Bridge forum at http://forums.adobe.com/community/bridge if you'd like to give them a go.
