Automater-application won't work

Hi. I'm new to this forum but I got a problem with the Automator. I was on a hunt for an emulator or a program that could open up apks on my MacBook Pro. I found the Android-emulator from Google, but everytime I run an app it crashes within a minute. But then I read about that you could make your own application in Mac OSx using the automator. I tried, and failed. I managed to create the application, but everytime I try to open up an apk-file when associating it to my automator-application, I get the message: "The action "Run Shell Script" encountered an error. Check the actoin's properties and try running the workflow again."
I have no idea at all within these kind of things so I have no clue at all what I should do about it. Can anyone help me with this? Would be very satisfying to install and run apks on my MacBook Pro
Below this you can see my "code" and "actions"

Well I rightclick on the apk-file and then I chose "Open with..." and then I choose the Autormator-application that I made... But I tried your suggesion on dragging and dropping the apk on the app, but it didn't work either :/
What happened when you dragged a file onto the app?
The app is designed to have files dragged onto it not ot be opened. If you open it then there is no file to pass to the shell script and nothing in arg $1 so toy get the error.

  • Java applications won't work

On my iMac, Java applications won't work.  I tried opening minecraft, and several other Java applications.  All of them have a message that pops up saying, "Not compatible version of Java 1.5+ is available."  I tried updating it but their is no update for Java it says on my updater.  Running 10.6.8

I don't understand that becuase 10.6.8 should already have Java installed.  It optional in 10.7.x.  It will be interesting to see if the java update even works under these conditions.

  • Applications won't work after archive and reinstall

My wife has an iBook G3. After automatic update she got the red circle with a slash in it. She rebooted to the install disk and chose to archive and reinstall. After doing this and restarting, several applications will not work. For sure itunes, safari, iphoto and perhaps other she has not tried. The message she gets is: "The application cannot be launched because the system is incompatible." Suggestions? Thank you. Steve

To A Brody, thanks for the link to the backup info page..that was very helpful.
I'm having a panic with two volumes with 10.3.9 and 10.4.3 getting corrupted and impossible to repair or reinstall...and getting errors that "may be bad blocks...bad media.." and am backing up all the photos and music to a usb ext HD.
I'm only able to start up with os9 and am careful...perhaps not enough, I don't know, to not do anything to the osx files I can see from the other parition with os 9.
So far I've just dragged the files I want to the ext HD. I think I will do it again with a disc image as well, on the same ext HD, and burn dvd's later. So far, testing the backup with another mac in osx, I'm able to see the pictures with Preview, and import the music and play it...but yikes, no backup is like running with scissors. Two different friends are also backup less and they both use their macs for business! I hope to get them fixed up as well.
I'm going to post a new question about the phrase: "Mac OS X can't be installed on an ATA/IDE drive that is configured as a "slave", although it can see and work with such drives.": from one of the best books on OS X. Is this true?

  • Automatic Update Won't Work, Please Help!

Please help. I have the new 5G iPod and it has kinda been working fine for me. Everytime I go to plug it into my computer, the automatic udate won't start. The little iPod icon in the corner won't show up and when I go to pref. and click on iPod it says there is no iPod connected. I tried to restart the computer and iPod and plug it into a different USB port but still nothing works. I know I have new songs on there that I want to update on but the "Do not disconect" screen won't even come up. Any help would be great, thanks! =)

    Try this:
Create a new user and make sure it is an Administrator account. Download and install iTunes.
If it installs properly, log out and then back in as you.
Uninstall iTunes using the method in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Then install from the link in my previous post:

Have you been having problems with your laptop before this?
You can always try a system restore too if the above steps don't work.
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Next > pick a restore point (you will get later dates if you check the "Show more restore points" box) I would go back at least a couple days > Next > Finish. It may take a while then it will reboot. On reboot it will finish the restore so it may take longer than normal to boot. This will not change any of personal files, only system and program files.

    Gustavo,
Since you used Software Update for 10.6.3, try downloading and installing the Mac OS X v10.6.3 Update (Combo).

  • Application won't work on 64-bit OS

My associate and I recently got hired to replace the IT department at a business with an infrastructure that was sort of piecemealed together over the last 40 years.  We have a new and more efficient infrastructure in development, but, in the meantime,
we have an issue that needs to be addressed to keep operations running smoothly in the early stages of implementing our system.
Our predecessors initially created our database using MySQL and eventually tried to awkwardly convert everything to SQL Server.  They weren't very successful and we currently run both databases in tandem and our employees interface the databases with
a program written in Cobalt.  We are entirely rewriting the database in SQL Server and building the interface application in .NET.  However, we still need to function on a day-to-day basis until everything is rebuilt and this is where our dilemma
    begins.
The existing Cobalt interface only functions effectively on 32 bit operating systems, and one of the first stages of our new system is to upgrade the workstations to Windows 8.1 (eventually 10), which only come in the 64-bit flavor.  We currently use
XP mode in MS Virtual to utilize the interface, and theoretically, we can continue to do so with VMWare, but I'd like to get away from virtualizing and run the Cobalt interface on 64 bit machines until we can implement our new .NET application.  Does
anyone have any suggestions on how we could accomplish this?

Yes, it is Cobol.  Sorry, my mistake.  The workstations access the program from a server share, so the compatibility mode isn't an option (the options in the compatibility tab are grayed out).  I have attempted the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter,
going through all of the combinations that were available with no luck.
Yes, the applications do work correctly on 32 bit operating systems, but do not have full functionality on 64 bit operating systems.  I apologize if my phrasing was a little vague.  When the user opens the application by clicking on the icon, both
systems open a window similar to:
(note that this is not the exact interface, it is a close representation). The application is primarily used for data entry and retrieval. The options are listed and the user enters in a numerical entry that corresponds to a menu option.  When used
on a 32 bit OS, the application will execute the desired request.  When used on a 64 bit OS, an
Invalid Entry message appears.  In other words, when the program is used on a 64 bit operating system, it won't recognize entered commands.
I hope that this clarifies the issue, and any assistance would be appreciated.

  • Updated software now mail application won't work

so as usual, I updated the software on My mac and laptop... it is version 10,6.8 and now my mail applications Version: 4.6 won't open. Says it is the wrong version to work with the software... this is the FIRST time I am unhappy with my Apple products. Now to take the time to figure this out. I know enough to be technologically dumb.   Help
This is on both my desktop and laptop
I can do simple step my step "help"
But don't want to cause more issues.
I've seen this asked several times on different boards~ so at least I don't feel it is "all me"

Restarted twice, unplugged the external drives, re-attached them and everything is working now.

  • Automatic sleep won't work

Any idea as to why my imac (early 2009) won't go to sleep? I cleared user login items, applications running, bluetooth, and sharing preferences. It still won't go to sleep automatically. I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I'm thinking maybe having a second display might keep it from going to sleep automatically. Anyone out there with the same symptoms?
    Thanks!

It most likely is a software issue ...to confirm this try booting into 'Safe Mode' and seeing if things resolve themselves. If they do, then it may be certain 3rd party software that is preventing sleep.
If not, then it may be a hardware issue - in which case you'll have to bring your book in to an Apple Tech.

  • No updates available for my 1st generation Ipad 3G but application won't work without an update. WHat do I Do?

I recently updated all the applications on my ipad. Now the direct TV app won't load. It's requesting an IOS upgrade. How do I continue to use the app when there is not an upgrade available for my device?

You may be able to get the last compatible version of the App for your iPad if the Developer has one available.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2013/09/17/apple-begins-offering-last-compatible-versio n-of-apps-for-users-running-legacy-versions-of-ios/
You may need to download the newest version to a compatible device first using the same Apple ID or to a computer running iTunes again using the same Apple ID. Then you should be given the option to download the latest compatible version for your First generation iPad when you tap on the install button in the App store on your iPad.

  • Application won't work as JAR file

    Hello all,
I am new to java and just wrote my first java program today. I finally got it compiled and working. I have no problems running the application from the command line when the application is not JARred up. When I JAR is up, the application will launch, but the one function it is supposed to excute doesn't work anymore. I created the JAR file with a main class definition in the manifest file.
The error the console is spitting out when the action executes is this:
    Exception occurred during event dispatching:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: lotus/domino/NotesException
Now, this appears to be not finding one of my imported classes, but I have my classpath set to include the package. It works fine when the app is not a JAR, but when it is I get the above error.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks in advance!

Executable jar files do not use the classpath, at least they don't use the CLASSPATH environment variable. (I assume that's what you are referring to when you say "I have my classpath set...".) Instead, they use the classpath defined in their manifest files. You have main-class defined there, you have to define classpath there too. Here's a link to an explanation:

  • I have just upgraded to Windows 7 (64 bit). Do I need a specific plug in? Some of my applications won't work in the browser.

I was just upgraded to a Windows 7 (64 bit) laptop. I am trying to get a web-based application (XMLmind) to open in FireFox and am unable to do so. Is there a specific plug-in that I need to make FF compatible with my 64 bit laptop?
Firefox works, but my application does not.

  • Several photo applications won't work

I upgraded from Leopard to 10.6.6 on my 2007 MacPro the other day, just after adding an ATI Radeon 5770 graphics card to feed an Apple 27" LED Cinema Display. Everything seemed to work fine until I tried running some photo and printing apps. Then I discovered that Photoshop CS4 won't recognize the driver for my Epson 3880 when I try to print, although it recognizes the 2400's driver. In addition, ColorMunki simply freezes on launch without displaying anything and has to be forced to quit, and both Epson LFP Remote Panel and Aperture 3 give a notice that a fault prevented the launch, and that the app might not be compatible with the current version of the OS. I haven't found any other balky apps, but I haven't tried launching everything. Safari works and so does Mail. Printer drivers have been repeatedly reinstalled, from DVD and from the Epson site.
I replaced the X1900 card and the 24" HD Cinema display, found the problem persisted, and went back to the 5770/27". So the problem is not with the card or the display.
Wondering if I had a corrupted installation of the OS, I reinstalled 10.6.3 from the DVD, found the problem persisted, updated to 10.6.6, and found the problem persisted.
The strange thing is that I have absolutely no problem with any of these apps, or any other problem, with 10.6.6 on my MacBook Pro or my iMac. So the problem is not with the OS.
What IS the problem? And why is it occurring only with apps that access printers/printer drivers? There must be a clue in there. HELP!
    —howard

    More thoughts on the above.
It's hard for me to believe that a corrupted driver file could cause an abort of the launch of a photo-editing app that merely is capable of using that file when necessary, and shouldn't care (or even know) at launch whether that file is clean, or even present. But in thinking about this, I keep coming back to the fact that it seems to be that only apps that access printer drivers are affected, and that one program that DOES launch, Photoshop, does't engage the 3880 driver at print time, even though it does engage the 2400 driver.
Is it possible that I got a corrupted installation of the 3880 driver originally, and that on subsequent re-installations, the installer, rather than re-installing the driver, over-writing the old one, merely looks to see if the current one is already installed, and if it is, leaves it alone without checking its integrity?
How can I trash every file the driver installer created, in order to do a pristine re-install?
