Automater help

I'm trying to use automator to move all my movies (extension .m4v,mp4, or .avi) into the movie folder. But I also have lots of tv shows in their appropriate folder. The tv shows are the same format as my movies. How do I use automator so that it will only search for the .m4v .mp4 and avi files that are movies and not tv shows.

AppleScript for setting Permissions Automatically -help needed

I am trying to create an applescript that can run automatically each time a user signs into a Mac set up for multiple (non admin) users that will take a folder on the drive and set permissions for all sub folders and files to read/write for everybody. I want the script to essentially do the equivalent of checking to "apply to enclosing items" checkbox.
I know very little about applescript and have not found a good tutorial online yet. Does anybody already have a script that will do this or know how to create one and set it up so that it will run automatically each time a user signs in? I think that I can probably add whatever script is created to the login items for the user to do that. But, don't I also have the problem of the script needed admin rights to reset permissions?
Any help would be appreciated.

What exactly are you wanting to do? There are shared folders that already exist (public and private), and Access Control List entries can be set to allow for custom access. Is this for a temporary directory or something like that that gets created when a user logs in?

IWeb stopped making thumbnails automatically - help!

I've been using iWeb for a couple weeks and when I write a blog entry, the photo I use on the entry page is automatically resized as a thumbnail and put on the index page. This is one of my favorite features. BUT! Yesterday it stopped doing this, and I don't know why or how to fix it despite searching everywhere.
Has anyone got any advice on how to fix?

What happened is that you probably hit DELETE to take away the stock photo (skiers?) instead of simply dropping a new photo into the image placeholder box. This results in the image placeholder box getting deleted and the link to the preview image broken.
The only way to get the box back is to create a new entry and start that entry over. Don't hit DELETE! Just drag and drop a new picture in to replace the stock photo!

Application folder rearranges automatically-HELP!

When I relaunch finder or restart my computer, my applications folder automatically rearranges to alphabetical order. I have it set to "snap to grid" so it shouldn't organize by name. I have already trashed the finder plist file, and that didn't solve my problem. I don't know what else to do.

I would just leave the applications folder alone. If you don't want to use the dock, then you can use other launchers like DragThing or Butler to make your programs show up in any order you wish.
If you don't want to use a program, then you can use a method we used to use back in OS 9 days, and just make an alias of each program you want, and put the alias's in a folder on your desktop. You can control the order they list in, by just adding a two digit number to the beginning of the name on the Alias.
I think you are fighting a losing battle trying to defeat an alphabetical listing that can get rebuilt by the OS on a whim. Maybe someday "Most Used" can become a list criteria, like the browsers are starting to do.

Nomad Jukebox 2 Starting in Rescue Mode Automatically--HELP!!

My Jukebox 2 froze, so I reset it with the paper clip, but it rebooted in rescue mode... I don't know which option to choose between Clean Up/Format All/Reload OS/Reboot. I tried reboot but it just starts in rescue mode anyway.
If it is dead, I was wondering if I could somehow recover my music from the hard dri've. Please help! Thank you.

Starting in rescue mode implies that the hard disk is broken. You can try disk cleanup, but I'm guessing it's unlikely to work.
Failing this you can either contact Creative Support (links are in the FAQ post) to get it repaired, or try repairing yourself. If you want to try the latter post back here and I can give some more instructions.

Mac automatically 'helps' me to input information that it remembers....

How do I change or delete this information. It has like 3 old addresses in there that I'd like to delete.

hi there, well I checked Firefox as well, and in the general tab I have search for text when you type unchecked. and the privacy tab I have it set to clear private data when exiting. I don't know if that will do it, BUt it is worth a try. Also delete the sites you do not want it to search for, than you do not have to worry about it at all. Every once in a while I go in there and delete web sites I no longer use, and possibly outdated, I hope some of this help, Ileen

Automatic help from database

i am havin a transaction form that uses bank codes
eg.0001 for state bank of india, 0002 for bank of india.
What i want that user need to enter character "s" in text box and all bank descriptions starting with s should get displayed in a popup style menu.
i don't want to use LOV because if we will attach lov to item cursor will move to lov.
Is above thing is possible using "WINHELP" methodology. if so please send me code so that i can refer to that. Also, Since Winhelp will not work in web deployed forms, how to achieve above thing?

You could display the codes in a report or a modal window. Call the report/window from the when-validate-item trigger if the code entered by the user does not exist and matches more than one record when using "like <code>%". If the form is smaller than the screen then you can return the cursor to the text item and leave the codes visible elsewhere on the screen. The modal window would be easier to position than the report.
I wold first check that the users would not prefer an LOV. Why force them to type the code?

In normal scenario in a production order each routing operation will consist a control key with settings for automatic goods reciept.
So in a production order you can use only one control key with automatyic goods recipt. This will be the last operation of the order. From message mentioned by you it is showing as may u have mentioned auto goods reciept for more than one operation.
PP01 is normal confirmation control key & PP99 is for milestone with auto goods reciept. PP95 - w/o milestone with auto GR.
Please check control key & correct it.

FCE 4 Automatic Color Corrections

I imported some old VHS tapes (originally on 16 MM video camera, converted to VHS) via my ADVC-300. I am new to MAC and FCE so forgive my basic question, searches did not result in any hits. Anyone have suggestions on cleaning up the video? Can the filters be applied with automatic settings as best as FCE can predict? I'm not a pro by any means so am looking for some "automatic" help from FCE.

I read the manual for the ADVC-300 and have used it numerous times when importing and converting video, it does a great job. The manual for FCE is OK but not great, sometimes it's hard to follow. I was looking for tips from more experienced users.

My printer won't work after using BT Desktop help

I received a message from BT desktop help saying I had connection problems although I wasn't aware of any, so ran through their automatic help screen. I think I may have cllicked on the wrong answer re the wireless connection (possibly clicked 'internal' instead of 'external' but not sure) and I think it has changed my settings. Now I cannot print. I can't remember exactly what I did in the destop help screen. Any ideas how to rectify? My printer is an HP Photosmart plus B210 series and it comes up with a message about the IP address when I try to print.

The first thing I would do is un-install BT Desktop Help from your computer.It is not needed for anything on your computer or to connect to the Internet and can cause problems on some computers. Have a search through the forum to see what I mean.
If you do decide to un-install it and you are still having problems with your printer post back for help. Meantime have you tried restarting your Homehub, computer and printer in that order.

Native process killed/terminated automatically

We have developed Mpeg-2 format streams Scheduling Aplication using JAVA
that invokes a native WIN32(dll) library through JNI.
This Win32(dll) Library further instantiate a COM Executable Server
(CVPROS~1.EXE). The transmission starts sucessfully. But the EXE server
is killed/terminated automaically without raising some exception at some
unpredictable interval of time. It looks the COM EXE server is sub
process of native WIN32Dll and JVM and JNI has not its direct reference.
1- Possibly it look that Java's Garbadge collector kills this process
assuming that its not being refered any where in project .
2- Its being terminated due to some architectural problem .
NOTE: if this Win32Dll is invoked through Win32 Client it works fine and
COM exe Server is never termiated automatically.

And why do you think it is being killed rather than it is terminating itself?
If exit() is called in the C code, or some variation thereof, then the application will exit.
If System.exit() is called in java then a java app will exit.

Would buying the 200 GB plan help with my wife's iPhone's space issues?

My wife's iPhone is running out of space, and she can't put all photos, music, and apps on the iOS device any longer. Would buying the 200 GB iCloud storage plan solve the issue? I am imagining it being similar to how Google Play Music doesn't try to download my entire library in the cloud onto my device at once, and how browsers don't keep internet caches forever. ICloud, as I imagine it, would let the OS delete most of my content freeing up space since they are mere copies, or internet caches, of files I already store in the cloud. I haven't actually tried a 200GB plan so I'm not sure how it works. What has other users experiences been like: does the 200 GB automatically help users who have run out of free space?

She wouldn't need any additional space to remove some apps from her device and she can always redownload them at anytime from the app store. With music it depends how her library is made up, if all or most of the content has been purchased from iTunes, she can delete that and be able to redownload it from iTunes (no additional data plan needed) at any time. If her library is mainly made up of burns from CD's and other sources, she might be interested in iTunes match which lets the user put contentment into the cloud and download it when ever it's needed. iTunes Match is a separate service from iCloud storage and also requires a computer.
So far as photo's goes, she could use iCloud photo library which puts original photos into the cloud and keeps optimised versions on the device itself which take up little space, they are downloaded as necessary for viewing/editing. iCloud photo library does use
As you can see it very much depends on which type of content is taking up all of her space, which would be the best option for her.
