Automatic app update notification in Store not wor...

I had to reset my Lumia 720 two months ago after a failed attempt to update to Amber left the dreaded spinning cogs on my phone for more than two weeks. I managed to reset it and update it to Amber. Afterwards, i realised that the auto update notifications which usually appear in Store has seized functioning. It has hasn't worked to date though manual checks reveal app updates occasionally. Pls help me resolve this. Thanks

Hi mui2g6,
Did you installed a firmware via software? It seems to be the problem.
Regarding the cogs, this is the solution, taken from another forum:
==========================================================
After spending 8 hours trying to recover from spinning gears following a hard reset, of all the methods I tried, this is the one that worked:
-Phone was showing spinning gears
-Battery was low
-Took Sim card out
-I logged into find my phone and erased my phone using the on-line feature:https://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/my
-Let it sit for 1 hour then turned it off
-Press and hold the Volume down & Power buttons until the phone vibrates then release the power button but keep pressing the volume down key for approximately 10 seconds until you see a low battery on the screen.
-If you don’t get the low batt and you get the Nokia lego then press the following buttons in this order;
--Volume UP
--Volume DOWN
--POWER
--Volume DOWN.
-Your phone will now automatically reboot and try again till you get the low batt
-When the low batt shows up do nothing, it will turn off by itself
-Let sit for 1 hour and turn back on
-Press and hold the Volume down & Power buttons until the phone vibrates then release the power button but keep pressing the volume down key for approximately 10 seconds until you see a low battery on the screen.
-Plug your phone into the charger when you see the low batt
-If you don’t get the low batt and you get the Nokia lego and go back to the spinning gears of death then press the following buttons in this order;
--Volume UP
--Volume DOWN
--POWER
--Volume DOWN.
-Plug your phone into the charger when you see the low batt but not till you see it
-Now press the following buttons in this order;
--Volume UP
--Volume DOWN
--POWER
--Volume DOWN.
-Your phone will now automatically reboot it will show the spinning gears again but within 10 mins it will start up as a new device.

Remember you have to download official upgrades from your carrier, otherwise the phone won't be able to show some features.
Kind regards,

  • App update notification symbol will not remove

I have a notification symbol (lback circle with red asterisk) on the top of the screen, under the date, on the Storm 9530.  I have upgraded to version 5.0.  I cannot seem to remove the symbol and all the applications appear to be updated.  I have tried to delete and remove the Quickpull app as it locks the system.  When I delete the Quickpull it also deletes App World.  When I then reload App World the symbol reappears and the QuickPull app shows as being archived.  Any suggestions?

Open your Messages application (click the icon on the homescreen). Search through for an unread message from AppWorld (sorry, I can't recall what exactly it looks like). Delete the message and the notification icon will go away. If you can't easily find it in Messages, you might have to click the BBKey and select View Folders...then go one by one through all folders to find the message. Or you can use the Search function -- search for unreads from all message services. One way or another, you must find the unread message from AppWorld and delete it. Only then will the notification icon go away.
    Good luck!

  • Automatic app updates in iOS 8, only when not signed in with Apple ID?

Just updated to iOS 8, and discovered an odd issue, as follows:
One of my favorite additions of iOS 7 was the automatic app updates, because I do not have access to the app store. My app store is locked under restrictions, but with automatic updates I had no need for the app store in order to update my existing apps.
Well, I just updated to iOS 8, and I find that there is only an option for automatic app updates when the app store is open, but as soon as the app store is locked through restrictions, the automatic updates option disappears. And to add to the mystery, the only way to get it back is by SIGNING OUT of my Apple ID. When I do that, the automatic music downloads option disappears, and it is replaced by an option for automatic app updates.
Is this intentional? Why on Earth is there no option for auto updates when signed in, only when signed out? I can't make any sense of it. Any help would be appreciated.
Other than that, iOS 8 is awesome so far.

  • Automatic app updates?

i have automatic downloads for apps enabled on both itunes on my computer and in the store settings on my phone.  i see that when i download a new app on my phone, it automatically downloads to itunes and vice versa.  is it possible to get this to work for updates for existing apps as well?  when i update an app on my computer or on my phone it doesn't look like it automatically downloads to the other device.  i restored my iphone recently and i thought this was possible before, but i could easily just be making up things in my head.
    thanks!
    iphone 4S 5.0.1
    itunes 10.5.3

It's only automatic app download (new purchases) - provided the app is 20MB at most while on 3G, no cap while on Wi-Fi including hopping on to other iPhone's personal hotspot.
Automatic app update isn't necessarily good,
There are instances where updated versions crash, have removed functionality, worse off, bug issues etc, compatibility issues, profile data loss etc - this is on the bad side, it does happen ocassionally where things go the opposite direction of what the release notes say.
For free apps, you don't know if sometimes the developer feel that giving apps free is really too good a deal and start adding ads etc..
Its better to read the update release notes and probably the reviews on the current version as well,
if you see a noticably large bunch of bad review like "after a game app updates, my character gets reset!!!@@" - don't update it until the developers rectify the issue.
"nooooo my news app doesn't fetch news anymore!!! *1star*" (99/100 people found this review helpful) - Like the above, don't get it.
There are issues which may not crop up during tests ran by the developers, they're just a couple of people while the consumers are a larger bunch of "testers"
However to note, if you were to see people specifically mentioning
"the update/app crashes only when I'm on an iPod Touch or iPad1!@!@!@" - especially games
And no issues with iPhone 4/4S iPad2 etc, chances are you're safe. That's because iPod touch has an underclocked processor and scaled down specs, like the iPad which may be the cause of the issues.
    Hope it helps.

  • TS1702 My iBooks is refusing to launch on the new iPad. Worked yesterday. . I have restarted the iPad and nothing. Latest os and no app update in the store.  Help

Tring to launch iBooks just flashes an goes back to launch icon My iBooks is refusing to launch on the new iPad. Worked yesterday. . I have restarted the iPad and nothing. Latest os and no app update in the store.  Help

Have you tried closing the iBooks app completely and seeing if it works when you re-open it ? From the home screen (i.e. not with iBooks 'open' on-screen, though it sounds like you can't get it to be open anyway) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the iBooks app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset (not sure whether this is what you meant by a restart) : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Automatic App Updates in iOS 7

    Hello,
I have automatic app updates turned on but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I've had to update my app manually so far. Right now I have three listed as "pending" but they haven't downloaded yet. Is there some kind of delay?

My iPad does not have the automatic software update and I do not know how to get IOS 6 onto it. When I go into settings there is no software update button.

If you are really on iOS 5 then look in Settings > General > Software update.
    Otherwise:
If you are using iOS 4 (or earlier) there is no Software Update in Settings. That feature was first added in iOS 5.
To update you will have to connect your iPad to iTunes on a computer (preferably the one you sync with and backup to).

  • App update notification on top right corner: any way to disable?

    Hi all!
Running Mountain Lion I get a notification at the top right of the screen every time an App update is available. There are two buttons Update and Details but no Dismiss, "Go Away", or Cancel. I've got dozens of Apps on my laptop and don't want to update every time I get a notification. I figured out that a two finger swipe on the notification sends it off the screen (thanks Apple really obvious that one!). The problem is that fifteen minutes later it's back again!
Is there any way of disabling App Store notifications without disabling all notifications? I can't see one.

Thanks for your reply.i disabled the updates for cellular data.i hope there is no way to stop iphone to check updates for my purchased app item.most app relesing updates for compatible for iOS7,im using 6.1.3 for my 3gs.why should APPLE pushing me to update? if i'm not update the red counting icon was still there,if i update unnessery we have to use Wifi Data,
in India 3G or Broadband will cost Rs 1600 or more for minimum 2Mbps speed also with limited Data.we get unlimited data in same cost, but speed is less then 512 Kbps only.it was boring speed.

  • App updates notifications

    Hi everyone,
I’d like to open up a discussion about app updates and how you would think this working. The challenge here, is while you’re releasing new versions for your apps, how would you think customers should know about it? And while we’re here, should also business owners know that there is a newer version of the app?
There are a multiple options here, with ups and downs:
Emails to partners – app market will send a and email to site partner every time a new app version is available; this is a targeted message, received by the partner (who is the one building the site) and it’s consistent in providing the same level of notification for all apps, regardless of who developed them; the downside is the email sometimes get lost
In-app notifications – app developer provides a notification mechanism into the app, that notifies users that a new version is available; for someone using the app, this is really visible; however, the downsides here are that business owners will also see the notification, apps will not be consistent unless all developers will implement the same notification system and the most important one, the partner will likely not see it, cause partners don’t log in to customers site that often
In partner portal site list – update the site list interface to show notifications in there that there are updates for the apps installed in the site. This is convenient as it’s only displayed to partners, and might be more visible than the in-app notification as partners log-in more often to partner portal
Anything we’re missing here? Some other option?
    Thank you,
    Cristinel

I am going to chime in and I must agree with Liam.
I am a small partner and majority of my clients want me to handle all of the work for them, however, I am picking up new clients who want to manage their sites and involve me only when absolutely necessary. For instance when a new page with some new functionality needs to be created, they call me. Otherwise they do it themselves.
The one of the concepts behind BC apps is it allows you in install functionality into BC quickly and easily. Lets take a simple example, a homepage image slider. There are three options here:
    1) I build the slider using code and it isn't editable by the client. To update it you must work with code (which the client doesn't know). Thus the client has to call me to update the slider.
    2) I build a webapp slider for them to use, but this will take X amount of time and be billed to the client. Total estimated cost for client $50 - $100.
    3) I install a slider app into the site, quick and easy. The client can then update the slider as necessary. Cost: Price of app ($29 for one on the app store as of this writing.)
Lets assume the client wants the app. The client must contact me first, which may or may not be easy for the client. (Can depend on how the partner handles client inquires.) I then have to install the app and then bill the client for the app. Depending on how the partner is setup they may even bill the client to do something that took five minutes and a couple clicks. This, to me, is unfair to the client though the partner has the right to markup the apps.
If the client could install the app themselves there would be no need for the partner to be involved which, for me, would be less hassle for all parties involved.
I really believe anyone should have the ability to install the app. Otherwise I believe you will restrict the BC App Store.
Wordpress is popular because it is easy to use and almost anyone can build a website with a few clicks by using wordpress plugins or apps. No need for a developer/partner to be involved. BC has this potential, and while I believe having a partner's help is beneficial it isn't required.
Also there is a lot of people out there who will use BC with Creative Cloud and/or Muse who may not be partners. They can build a decent looking website and would be able to extend the abilities with apps, if they could install them.
If absolutely necessary you could implement an option in the Partner Portal which would allow partners to turn off the customers ability to install apps. This would give those who want their clients to install apps the ability and others who don't to restrict them. To me this could cause confusion for clients but is a possible option. If this option is implemented then a notice to the client on the app store would be needed altering them before they could purchase an app to contact their partner.
Also Dale mentioned above: "...which is that updating the platform on regular intervals is not required with BC." This is still true for the BC Core. Apps are different in my opinion. For instance I have a slider on a site that when IE 11 was released caused problems with this slider. I had to update the slider to fix these bugs. Having apps update is the same concept. New version that fixes bugs and adds new features. It is all in the way it is presented to the client.
    About notifications:
I like a couple of Dale's suggestion. The auto-update would be a nice feature but can be dangerous depending on the app. What if the app removes functionality you have been using, thus you don't want to update? Some apps it would be beneficial for auto-update.
I also like the indicator idea. While it may not be possible now, is there any reason it couldn't be written into the API to allow this type of notification to be added to the admin? I know you can customize the admin because I have used the Solid Admin Menu that is on the BC App Store now. Adding this ability would be great.  Again some control for partners may be wanted to disable app update alerts.
Finally I know the system that I like is what I have seen with the Envato Network of Websites (Code Canyon, VideoHive, Themeforest, etc.). I have a box I can check that allows me to receive emails if the item is updated. This is an email notification in this case. See screenshot below:
Thank You Alexandru, Cristinel and the BC Team for your hard work.
