Automatic App Updates Stopped

I'm not sure when, maybe a few weeks ago, but suddenly all of my automatic updates for iOS apps have stopped.  I will click on the App Store every few days and there will be 10-20 updates waiting for me.  Same goes with my wife's phone and our iPads.  Did something happen in iOS?  Is there a setting that I'm missing (I have the automatic app updates set to "on" in the setting menu.  Please help!

  • Automatic app updates in ios 8

Just updated to iOS 8, and discovered an odd issue, as follows:
One of my favorite additions of iOS 7 was the automatic app updates, because I do not have access to the app store. My app store is locked under restrictions, but with automatic updates I had no need for the app store in order to update my existing apps.
Well, I just updated to iOS 8, and I find that there is only an option for automatic app updates when the app store is open, but as soon as the app store is locked through restrictions, the automatic updates option disappears. And to add to the mystery, the only way to get it back is by SIGNING OUT of my Apple ID. When I do that, the automatic music downloads option disappears, and it is replaced by an option for automatic app updates.
Is this intentional? Why on Earth is there no option for auto updates when signed in, only when signed out? I can't make any sense of it. Any help would be appreciated.
Other than that, iOS 8 is awesome so far.

I'm pretty sure they are working out some kinks still...   Mine is working, but intermittantly.
It's probably safe to assume that all of the devices in the world won't update at the same moment to preserve server overload, so we'll need to be patient.

  • Automatic App Updates in iOS 7

    Hello,
I have automatic app updates turned on but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I've had to update my app manually so far. Right now I have three listed as "pending" but they haven't downloaded yet. Is there some kind of delay?
    Thanks.

  • Automatic app updates?

i have automatic downloads for apps enabled on both itunes on my computer and in the store settings on my phone.  i see that when i download a new app on my phone, it automatically downloads to itunes and vice versa.  is it possible to get this to work for updates for existing apps as well?  when i update an app on my computer or on my phone it doesn't look like it automatically downloads to the other device.  i restored my iphone recently and i thought this was possible before, but i could easily just be making up things in my head.
    thanks!
    iphone 4S 5.0.1
    itunes 10.5.3

It's only automatic app download (new purchases) - provided the app is 20MB at most while on 3G, no cap while on Wi-Fi including hopping on to other iPhone's personal hotspot.
Automatic app update isn't necessarily good,
There are instances where updated versions crash, have removed functionality, worse off, bug issues etc, compatibility issues, profile data loss etc - this is on the bad side, it does happen ocassionally where things go the opposite direction of what the release notes say.
For free apps, you don't know if sometimes the developer feel that giving apps free is really too good a deal and start adding ads etc..
Its better to read the update release notes and probably the reviews on the current version as well,
if you see a noticably large bunch of bad review like "after a game app updates, my character gets reset!!!@@" - don't update it until the developers rectify the issue.
"nooooo my news app doesn't fetch news anymore!!! *1star*" (99/100 people found this review helpful) - Like the above, don't get it.
There are issues which may not crop up during tests ran by the developers, they're just a couple of people while the consumers are a larger bunch of "testers"
However to note, if you were to see people specifically mentioning
"the update/app crashes only when I'm on an iPod Touch or iPad1!@!@!@" - especially games
And no issues with iPhone 4/4S iPad2 etc, chances are you're safe. That's because iPod touch has an underclocked processor and scaled down specs, like the iPad which may be the cause of the issues.
    Hope it helps.

  • Does killing the AppStore app stops automatic app updates?

I stopped the AppStore app on my iPhone, removed it from the recents list and haven't opened it for a while. During this time, no app updates came in. Then yesterday I opened up AppStore again and it found 37 updates. I thought that stopping and removing the app from the recent apps list does not interfere the updates from coming, am I wrong?

It is not necessary to have the App Store open for updates. It appears this is an anomaly on your phone. You can try to just power the phone off/on and see if that helps. Your last step might be to perform a reset, holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. This will make the phone reboot. The only way to tell then if it makes any difference is if you receive an app update.

  • Automatic app updates in iOS7:  How do you know what's been updated?

Once you turn on the automatic/background updating of apps in iOS 7, is there any way to know which apps have been recently updated?  For example, there may be new features in an app that you would want to know about.
    Thanks,

You can also open the App Store app > Updates and it will list the apps and date they were updated.
There should also be an alert in your Notification Center (swipe down from the top of the screen) under the "All" tab

  • Supervised Profiles and automatic app updates

Does anyone have any experience using automatic downloads for apps in a supervised profile, even with the App Store disabled? I would like to find a more streamlined method, instead of having to manually plug the iPads into configurator every-time a student needs an app updated. Thanks for your help.

  • Automatic song update stops randomly

    Hi,
I'm running iTunes 6.0.4 (3) on OS X 10.4.6 with a 40 GB 3G Clickwheel iPod (firmware 3.1.1). It's worked fine for more than a year, but recently I restored the software and now automatic updates of music stop at random places (with no error messages, even after sitting for 24 hours or more!). Manual update (drag and drop, up to 8000 songs at once) works fine. I listen to a number of podcasts so would like automatic update to manage these for me.
I saw several similar problems posted, including one I found on Google that no longer appears here. Does anyone have a solution for this?
    Thank you.

  • Automatic app update notification in Store not wor...

I had to reset my Lumia 720 two months ago after a failed attempt to update to Amber left the dreaded spinning cogs on my phone for more than two weeks. I managed to reset it and update it to Amber. Afterwards, i realised that the auto update notifications which usually appear in Store has seized functioning. It has hasn't worked to date though manual checks reveal app updates occasionally. Pls help me resolve this. Thanks

    Hi mui2g6,
Did you installed a firmware via software? It seems to be the problem.
Regarding the cogs, this is the solution, taken from another forum:
    ==========================================================
After spending 8 hours trying to recover from spinning gears following a hard reset, of all the methods I tried, this is the one that worked:
    -Phone was showing spinning gears
    -Battery was low
    -Took Sim card out
-I logged into find my phone and erased my phone using the on-line feature:https://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/my
-Let it sit for 1 hour then turned it off
-Press and hold the Volume down & Power buttons until the phone vibrates then release the power button but keep pressing the volume down key for approximately 10 seconds until you see a low battery on the screen.
    -If you don’t get the low batt and you get the Nokia lego then press the following buttons in this order;
    --Volume UP
    --Volume DOWN
    --POWER
    --Volume DOWN.
-Your phone will now automatically reboot and try again till you get the low batt
-When the low batt shows up do nothing, it will turn off by itself
-Let sit for 1 hour and turn back on
-Press and hold the Volume down & Power buttons until the phone vibrates then release the power button but keep pressing the volume down key for approximately 10 seconds until you see a low battery on the screen.
-Plug your phone into the charger when you see the low batt
    -If you don’t get the low batt and you get the Nokia lego and go back to the spinning gears of death then press the following buttons in this order;
    --Volume UP
    --Volume DOWN
    --POWER
    --Volume DOWN.
-Plug your phone into the charger when you see the low batt but not till you see it
    -Now press the following buttons in this order;
    --Volume UP
    --Volume DOWN
    --POWER
    --Volume DOWN.
-Your phone will now automatically reboot it will show the spinning gears again but within 10 mins it will start up as a new device.
    ==========================================================
Remember you have to download official upgrades from your carrier, otherwise the phone won't be able to show some features.
    Kind regards,
    careduro

I Have posted the same problem this morning.
Last Library Update was Nov. 12 2010 (I guess that is the date that I have installed iTunes10.1).
My iTunes Account shows Nov. 09 2010 as last Update.
I can see from my iPhone that I have apps updates (I.e. Pandora 3.1.4) but I cannot get the newer version on iTunes.
Deleting preferences files does not do anything neither login off/on the account.
I have no problem purchasing music or apps

  • App updates stopped working

Last couple of days when accessing the app store on my ipad (newest version) the update page remains blank even though there is a notification on the icon that updates are available. The rest of the sections load fine, but clicking updates brings only a blank page. I have tried restarting, exiting all apps and turning off/on, recharging, etc. Any tips other than starting over??

I just went through this with input from another discussion group - same problem.  It will sound weird but it did solve my problem.
    1.  go into settings - general - time & date: turn off the automatic set time
    2.  at the same location go into set date & time:  manually set the date to Jan 1, 2013
    3.  turn off your cellular data and your wi-fi
    4.  reboot the i-pad:  hold the on/off slider and home buton until the apple icon appears
    5.  after the system restarts, go back in and turn the wi-fi and cellular data back on, turn on the automatic set time
After doing this my app store started working fine again.  If it does not work the first time, try it again.
good luck - I hope it works for you and I hope Apple comes out with an update to solve the problem soon.

  • Preventing one off automatic app updates

So - for updating my apps on IOS 7 on my IPad air I used to click on the update all tab. There is one app that I don't want to update (if anyone is interested it's the new - annoying- version of EA sports Scrabble)  From time to time I click on update all by mistake and end up with the new non- Bluetooth version. Fortunately I had an old version on an iTunes back up and can recover the better, old version
Ideally I would like to be able to exclude Scrabble (or any specified app) from ever being updated. Is there a way to do this ?
If you didn't know about the Scrabble issue it is quite interesting. Since EA sports bought the licence their objective is to make people play the game online using their games platform. Many people prefer the 2 people in the same room by Bluetooth version but EA Sports insist the new version is better. They seem to ignore the hundreds of posts telling them it isn't.

  • Why did my app updates stop loading?

Has anyone had this problem?  I have four apps which needed updating, and all of them stalled just over halfway through the update.  I have been waiting 10-15 minutes so far.  I am usting an iPad2 with the new iOS6.

    Try the following:
    1. Turn iPad off and on again
    2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo
    3. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings
    4. Use iTune (computer) to update/download and sync to iPad
