Automatic artwork embedding in 7.6.1 (?)

When iT first added the automatic artwork feature (in 7.0) I noticed that it attached the artwork as far as the program on the hard drive was concerned, but NOT in terms of embedding the artwork into the file itself.
in other words, when you'd play a track in iT, you would see the art, but NOT when you transferred that same track to your iPod.
a good way around this is Doug Adams's excellent script "embed artwork," which I heartily recommend, along with many others on Doug's iT scripts site.
However, now trying iT 7.6.1 on a Leopard Mac Pro, I am not sure what it's doing - it's adding art from the Apple store as before, but, when I put them on my iPod it looks like the art is going with it, even in cases when I did not run the script ....
at least this seems to be what's happening! If so, great! Will test it further.
Does anybody know anything about this? It would save me some labor if I didn't have to run the script...
w

I read the PDF file on this script...I'm not exactly sure what it's purpose is. The file states:
"Select some tracks. If downloaded artwork is available, it will be embedded in each track's file.
iTunes 7 by default stores downloaded album artwork in a separate "Album Artwork" folder in ~/
Music/iTunes. This script will re-apply the artwork data to the selected track's files."
Not sure why one would need to reapply the artwork to "selected tracks." Not sure why one would want to embed art if they didn't have to and increase the file size. I can't figure that out.

  • Output Preview Simulation Profile Automatically Shows Embedded  Profile

I am curious if there is a way to have the embedded profile in a PDF to be the 'default' simulated profile in the Output Preview?
Without thishappening faulty percentages may be shown, or if a BW file has an embedded BW profile, but the simulated profile is a CMYK profile the file is now 4-color (in the preview only, obviously the file is truly BW).
Yes, I know we can look at the 'Object Inspector' to find out if, and what, profile is embedded (if any) and then change the Simulation Profile to match, but it would be nice to have that done automatically if possible.

My point is that, to start with, what should the profile be if the PDF contains 17 profiles? What if it contains 2 different profiles with the same name? Your task may be simple, but designing it in the software is anything but. Also, getting all the profiles could take many minutes for a PDF with tens of thousands of pages.

  • Will FCE automatically log embedded metadata when ingesting QT .mov files?

    Hi --
I'm trying to figure out whether to purchase FCE to help in a large project. I am about to create a couple of hundred QT files that I want to bring into FCE for editing. Each file will be tagged (logged) when created to allow searching in ITUNES. The tags reside in the INFO/COMMENTS field in the .mov container.
*Will FCE recognize the QT tags on ingestion? Can FCE automatically populate each file's logs with the appropriate tags?*
Obviously, a yes answer will save a huge amount of work. And, I welcome any alternative approaches.
    Much thanks,
    Ken

Thx for the quick, helpful and somewhat unfortunate response.
Any chance it works the other way, i.e can tags/log info be exported to the source .mov file.
Am I missing some other strategy to share tags/logging between FCE (or any NLE for that matter) and embedded metadata in the source files (QT in this case)
    Again, thanks for the help.

  • How to disable automatic artwork/photos on menus?

    Hello,
On the iPod it automatically, shows random album art / photos in a slide show to the right on the menu screens.
    How can I disable this?
    Thank you,

Assume this is on an iPod Classic (you are posting in the iPod 5th gen forum)?
You can't disable it. You can set the iPod to not show the artwork but that means instead of the picture of the album cover you'll se a blank grey square instead.
The iPod 5th gen has no such split screen menu.

  • How does iTunes Album Artwork work in iTunes 8? Is store artwork embedded?

I know that with music I add artwork to manually, the artwork is written to the ID3 tags of the music, embedded.
I want to know if with iTunes 8, is artwork obtained from the iTunes store also written? I suspect so because in Finder, the quicklook preview of purchased music show the album art.
    If so, hooray!
If not, how do I write them in permanently so they stick on whatever computer/device i copy them to?

Artwork that is found and added through iTunes is not embedded. You would need to cut and paste the artwork into the Get Info box or by using third party tagging software in order to embed it.
It's possible that there exists a script to take the iTunes added artwork and embed it. You might try looking at Doug's Scripts:

  • How Automate Dynamically Embedding Customer Names from a List into PDF Footer?

    Mavens,
After discovering that a PDF training workbook of mine has been widely copied (without authorization), I'd like to "personalize" future versions of this artifact with the customer/user name dynamically embedded in each PDF's footer.
Based on your experience, what is the easiest, quickest & most economical way to: generate a set of PDFs (from a "Master") where each individual PDF is personalized with a user/customer name in the footer (e.g., "This document is licensed to {FRED BLOTZ} at {BIG COMPANY, Inc.}. Duplication or distribution is not authorized.").
    The desired workflow is:
    1. Create an MS-Excel Workbook with a list of all trainee (user) names.
    2. Open some type of "PDF Personalization" tool.
    3. Provide the path to the "Master PDF" to the tool.
    4. Provide the name of the customer (company) to the tool.
    5. Provide a path to the MS-Excel Workbook with list of individual's names.
    6. Provide a path to a folder where the tool should write the generated PDFs.
    7. Click a button ("Generate Personalized PDFs").
    Then...distribute individualized PDFs to trainees.
Is there a tool out there somewhere which provides the desired solution?
Thank you in advance for your experienced-based suggestions.

  • How to disable automatic font embedding in CS5?

I installed CS5 and opened an old .fla which did not embed the Arial font because everyone has it already. Mostly it is used for user-entered and dynamic content.  However, CS5 is auto-embedding the few characters I use in Arial, and all of the other characters are no longer showing up in the swf file.  The only fix seems to be embedding the entire Arial font in the movie, which is too large since I want to be able to support all kinds of characters.
Is there a way to turn off auto-font embedding?  This feature seems well-intentioned but critically flawed if it can't be turned off.

    Hi,
You can set the TextField's Anti-alias setting to "Use device fonts" if you don't want to embed the font.

  • Adding non-embedded album artwork

Whenever I have iTunes automatically download album covers it downloads one copy to the PC and associates all relevant mp3 files to that artwork image file.
This is great but only works for like 75% of my music.
When I try to add missing artwork to my other mp3 files, it doesn't add them to the iTunes library downloads, but rather it seems to embed the artwork in the actual file. I do not want this...I'd rather have smaller mp3s without artwork embedded in the actual file.
How can I add artwork through iTunes to display with the mp3s without embedding them, just like the iTunes auto-add feature does?

    That's a shame if you really can't.
I would have thought that there would be some way to add artwork locally to iTunes rather than embed the graphics in the actual mp3 file.
I had tried looking into where the info was stored that tells iTunes where the images are, but that didn't work.
Each artwork file is in the iTunes library folder, but they have some alpha-numeric labeling system. I thought the "iTunes Music Library.xml" would hold the info...but if it does it's not straightforward even though you can open the file in notepad and read it easily. All other mp3 info is pretty straightforward in the file...just not the artwork. But even if I could figure out a way to tell iTunes where the artwork is, there's still the problem of format. iTunes downloaded artwork aren't simple jpegs. They have a "*.itc" extension (for iTunes cover?), and normal image viewers failed to open them.

  • ID3 embedded artwork quirk

A bit of a quirk I discovered with importing music in iTunes that already has artwork embedded.
I had spent a bunch of time renaming and standardizing my music collection with TheTagger, prior to importing in iTunes. The reason being, even though I set the preference to not have iTunes keep my music files organized, it did for some of the files, and shuffled them around on me. So, I cleaned everything up, embedded artwork and ran a backup prior to reimporting to iTunes.
To get artwork, I had merely searched Wikipedia for album info, and dragged and dropped the album image from my browser directly to TheTagger app artwork window. This seemed to work fine, since Plex recognized the artwork fine. I continued through my collection prior to a test import in iTunes.
With my collection all cleaned up, I began to import in iTunes. I was choked when the artwork didn't show up in iTunes. So I went through a process of deleting from iTunes and reimporting, with no different result. So I went back into TheTagger, removed the artwork, and instead of dragging and dropping the artwork, I added a jpeg via the app menu. I imported in iTunes again and viola! The artwork showed up!
So a couple more trials to narrow down what I had to do for the rest of my collection ensued. The consensus, iTunes doesn't like embedded TIFF images. Say what?!?!
Yup. Turns out that for whatever reason, TheTagger converts all images dragged and dropped from my browser (chrome) to a tiff. If I drag and drop that same image from Chrome to finder, it saves in finder as the uploaded file type (in most cases, jpeg). When I removed the tiff and applied a jpeg to the ID3 via TheTagger menu, it imports just peachy.
An added note, and as you'd expect, if you drag and drop a tiff from finder to apply artwork in iTunes, the image sticks just fine. But of course, that's just saved in iTunes artwork cache.
So, I thought I'd share this since my "google" for my issue usually resulted in "add artwork via iTunes and run a script to embed".

*Why is artwork not showing on my iPod when it's there in iTunes?*
iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exists in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=trackswithoutartwork for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant jpeg images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, find the album in the main music folder, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough.
    *Rebuild artwork cache*
Sometimes the artwork cache becomes corrupt and fails to show correct artwork, even when this is properly set up in iTunes. To rebuild the artwork cache, connect your iPod to iTunes. Locate the iPod in the Sources pane on the left-hand side, then select the Music tab. Remove the tick from *Display album artwork on your iPod*, sync the iPod, reselect the option & sync again.

  • How to tell if my mp3s have embedded artwork (artwork file bigger than it should be)?

    Hi all
I loaded a bunch of albums onto my iPod Classic using Foobar's iPod Manager (foo_dop). The mp3s on my PC do NOT have artwork embedded. Rather, there is a cover.jpg file per album stored in the folder along with the mp3s.
Everything is displaying fine on the iPod, so there is no issue as such. I am just trying to save as much space on the iPod as possible and so want to make sure that foo_dop did not embed the artwork whilst doing the transfer.
Is there any way I can check for sure?
[If it helps to know, in the preferences for foo_dop, I have "Add artwork to files sent to iPod" ticked. In source script I have "cover". The two items below this are unticked.]
    UPDATE:
Just to add, on my iPod I have the following sizes in the Artwork folder:
    ArtworkDB - 482kB
    F1055_1.ithmb - 24MB
    F1060_1.ithmb - 150MB
    F1061_1.ithmb - 4.51MB
Yet sll of the jpegs on my PC hard drive total 34.5MB.
So now I'm not too sure what's going on!
    Cheers

    Bump for any ideas...  Cheers

  • Benefits of embeded artwork over 'Get Album Artwork'?

I have a large collection of music in iTunes, much of it with embeded artwork. I've yet to upgrade to iTunes 7, and i was wondering are there any advantages with embeded artwork over 'Get Album Artwork'?
More to the point, other than disk space, does having artwork embeded have any disadvantages? Does it slow iTunes (and in particular Cover Flow) down?
    Thanks

  • ITunes Artwork with no embedded covers in the MP3 files ?

    Hi
    New iTunes user,
I have a question is it possibly to have artwork displayed in iTunes without having embedded artwork images actually in the MP3 files ?
I use Windows Media Center and WMP12/7MC just uses the Folder.jpg Hi-Res cover image in each albums folder.
It appears iTunes only shows any covers if I embed covers in to the MP3 files which I'd rather not do.
What are my options if any?
    Many thanks.

I have my entire music collection ripped using iTunes and stored on a Mac mini running Windows. It is all in Apple Lossless format and shared with Windows Media Player and Media Center which can play the Apple Lossless files thanks to a solution I came up with along with assistance from Milenko Mitrovic.
While I do deliberately chose to embed 600x600 pixel artwork in each track (disk space is cheap), I also put a folder.jpg of the same artwork in each album folder for the benefit of WMP and Media Center.
The steps I use to do this are as follows.
    1. Rip the CD using iTunes
    2. Tell iTunes to download album artwork for that Album. Life is made much easier if you only do one album at a time.
    3. Look in your Music folder for the iTunes folder and look in that for the Album Artwork folder
    4. In the Album Artwork folder will be a Download folder and in that various subfolders eventually leading to a file called something like A392573AD3DE300C-45855BDAB6F38792.itc2 by checking the file creation date/time you will be able to confirm it corresponds with the one you just downloaded.
    5. Use the free utility bitmaprip available here http://mark0.net/soft-bitmaprip-e.html to 'extract' the real artwork from inside Apple's proprietary itc2 file. You can then move this to the iTunes album folder for that album and name it folder.jpg
If you then like I do, want to make this artwork embedded, then do the following extra steps.
    6. Select one of the tracks for the album
    7. Copy the artwork to the clipboard
    8. Clear the downloaded artwork
    9. Delete any folders left in your Album Artwork folder so they do not confuse you for the next album
    10. Select all the tracks for the album
    11. Paste the artwork in

  • I cannot delete embedded album artwork in iTunes 12

I cannot delete embedded album artwork in iTunes 12.  I download music from a service that sometimes has album artwork embedded, and I usually just delete it.  Then I add the artwork from iTunes with the "get album artwork" command.  But it only works if you can delete the embedded artwork first...and in iTunes 12, so far, I cannot.  So I am stuck with the artwork that came with the files...and it's not always good.  (Sometimes, it's even silly ads!)
In iTunes 11 and prior versions, I would highlight the songs in the album, right-click then choose "get info," choose the "details" tab, and put a checkmark next to the empty album art box for all songs.  That would delete the embedded album artwork.  You could also paste an image into the little box and it would apply to all the songs that had no artwork, to be sure they were all the same.  Alternatively, I could also highlight the songs in the album, right-click then choose "get info," choose the "artwork" tab, and delete, cut or paste artwork right into the larger pane.
Without the ability to delete embedded artwork, I cannot maintain my library the way I'd like to.  I even prefer the full album artwork to a "single" artwork, and so I even change the free iTunes downloads singles to the main album artwork.
Please help.  Does anyone know how to delete album artwork in iTunes 12?  I have a huge library and I want to continue to maintain it with the correct album artwork.

The new iTunes 12 Get Info dialog lacks right-click context menus (at least for now) but it still accepts most standard keyboard shortcuts and drag & drop actions.
    Delete Artwork
On the artwork tab of Get Into, tap the image in question, use Backspace or Ctrl+X. Delete doesn't work.
Or, tap the image at the top left of Get Info, this time use Backspace or Delete, it is Ctrl+X that doesn't work.
    Add Artwork
Select artwork, press Ctrl+C to copy, tap the centre of the Artwork tab, press Ctrl+V to paste.
Or, select artwork, press Ctrl+C to copy, tap the small image area at the top left, press Ctrl+V to paste.
Or, you can drag & drop to, or sometimes from, the same locations.
You can also copy artwork from the Get Info dialog to Windows Explorer with the keyboard shortcuts.
If the source image is on a web page right-click and use Copy Image rather than copy. (With Chrome I get a one pixel wraparound so tend to go for a temporary local copy anyway - not sure whose bug this is, but it isn't new.)
If you have multiple images embedded drag the one you want to be the primary artwork to the leftmost position.
    Replace/Remove All Artwork
The top left image box can be used to add or delete art from multiple tracks. In either case all existing artwork in all tracks is replaced/removed.
Old Style Get Info Dialog (as given above)
Select some items, right-click, hold down shift, then click Get Info from the context menu. (Use alt/option on a Mac)

  • Embedded Art Shows Fine - "Get Album Artwork" Won't Transfer

I have a MacBook Pro with OS 10.4.11, and iPod Classic v1.1.1, and I'm having a problem:
Any artwork that I retrieved using iTunes' "Get Album Artwork" option DOES NOT show up on my iPod. All the artwork I manually retrieved from Google (copy & pasted) shows fine.
I'm told that copying and pasting artwork embeds the image file right into the mp3 file itself. The artwork that iTunes retrieves is NOT stored in each mp3 file, but rather in its own separate database. Somehow that database doesn't seem to be transferring to the iPod.
Anyone else having this problem? Any way to let Apple know directly?

This should also let you embed iTMS downloaded artwork.
I don't know how well these tools work with a manually-managed iPod since I maintain my full library on an external drive & sync from that.

  • Just got an iPod Touch and some of the artwork doesn't show up on my iPod.  It seems that a lot of them are from the iTunes store. What should I do?

    .

A lot of what are from the iTunes Store?
Your post doesn't make much sense really. Where did you get the songs from?
If you purchased them from the iTunes Store, then the artwork should have come with the song when you downloaded it.
But since you have not specifically stated that you have purchased from the Store, my question is have you downloaded songs from a different store or from yet another source? If so, did that source undertake to provide artwork?
Have you imported these songs from your own CDs?
MP3 files from other sources, such as (legally obtained) downloads from artist websites etc. do not always have artwork imbedded in them.
Amazon MP3 songs do have the artwork embedded. I assume other MP3 stores also provide the artwork. But then, assumptions are not always correct.
Songs that you import from your CDs do not have the artwork embedded in the CD version. The artwork is obtained for you by iTunes - if you have the setting turned on (see in iTunes, Edit/Preferences/General>>When you import a CD>>automatically download missing artwork) In this situation, if artwork is not supplied, it may be because iTunes doesn't have (legal) access to that artwork. In other words, they don't sell the album, so are unable to supply the artwork. In that case, a simple Google of the album should find the artwork which you can then copy into the album in iTunes.
As a last resort, I use my printer's in-built scanner to scan my CD cover and then paste that into the album's artwork box.
If I haven't answered your question, it's because you haven't supplied enough information.
