Automatic batch capturing with scene detect

Hi,
I'm new to FCS and used to work with Ulead's MSP. But since that's EOL I moved over to the Mac.
I'm looking for a way to "batch capture" a DV tape to the hard without letting FCS know all the start and stop points.
MSP used to capture every shot as a single clip to the harddisk just because it used the timecode on the tape. FCS can't do that it seems.
My camera is a Sony VX2000. Don't know if that's the reason.
If there's a utility that can do it, outside of FCS, that would also be nice.
Thanks for your replies.
Mic.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Looks good. I will have a try
Kind regards,
Mic.

  • Capture with Scene Detect: Clip Name Keeps Changing

I am editing weddings and my raw footage is usually on 3 tapes. I capture with Scene Detect checked and I name the clip "Clip", so Premiere labels each clip as Clip 01, Clip 02, Clip 03, etc. But when I put in my 2nd tape, Premiere starts labelling them Clip 01 1, Clip 02 1, Clip 03 1, etc. How can I get Premiere to continue from the last number of the previous tape, (the same way that Scenalyzer does automatically)?

How can I get Premiere to continue from the last number of the previous tape
You can't.  Once you stop capture, PP will always restart the numbering, even if it's from the same tape.
What I do is use Bridge to Batch Rename the clips.

  • Unable to batch capture with Premiere Pro CC via Kona LHi

AJA's web site claims Premiere Pro CC is compatible with the Kona LHi card, but I can't get the two to work together properly. After repeated tries, I uninstalled and reinstalled everything AJA, but still no luck.
I need to batch capture DV clips from some mini-DV tapes on my Sony MVR035U tape deck.  But I also need to upconvert them from 480i to 720p60 using my Kona Lhi card. I should be able to do this with Premiere Pro CC. But the PPCC Capture window won't give me any audio feedback when I select "AJA Movie Capture" in the Capture Settings pull down menu. I only get audio feedback when I enable "DV capture" but then I'm no longer able to upconvert.
Looking forward to any feedback on this issue. Been tying all day to trouble shoot this problem.

And now with CC June 2014 you can't even capture from HDV, I need to go back to Premiere CC 2013 for that....Adobe might think tape capture is over... but it isn't totally yet...

  • Can you batch capture with Final Cut Express?

I'm new to Mac and FCE,
I'm used to running through my dv marking in and out points to create a batch and then hitting capture at the end and the computer rewinds and captures each in/out point. At this point, I usually start editing pics, etc for the video on another machine (videos are very short turnaround time).
Is this type of batch capture possible with final cut or does the user actually have to wait while the video is captured or better yet go to the end of each out point only to have the tape rewind for each clip captured. Seems like a very inefficient way of doing, so i'm guessing I am just unaware of how to do it. Please give me the steps if possible and of course all help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,

This is very irritating. The more I get into the Mac side of video the more I think I have been sold a bill of goods. Mac seems to be good for lots of stuff, but I have to say that iMovie and Final Cut Express seem to lack some pretty basic functionality found in Windows software like Ulead MSP.
I even asked this specific question to the Apple store personnel and they guaranteed me that batch capture is possible on FCE.
I have to ask myself at this point why am I considering paying 900.00 for FCP when a 300 dollar Windows Program does the same thing. I guess live and learn, but it sure helps when people tell the truth and don't make stuff up when they don't understand it.
I am very disappointed at all the Mac video hype I have yet to see the wonders.
    Thanks for the reply,

  • Batch Capturing with gap in recording

So I just spent a lot of time labeling and describing clips. They are all offline. So I go to Batch Capture them and I'm getting the beginning of the tape rather than what I wanted which was in the middle.
I discovered that there is some blank space in my tape that changed my camera's timecode back to 0:00:00:00 and therefore is confusing the batch capture.
Is there a way to tell FCP to capture at the "new" 0:00:00:00 and not the "real" 0:00:00:00?

    Welcome to the discussions.
Just select the clips before the timecode reset, capture them, select those after the break, manually shuttle past it, then capture them.

  • Batch capturing with little pre-roll?

Hi, I just got some tapes that are supposed to be recaptured to online an old project. The problem is when the tapes were captured they weren't given any pre-roll.
Does anyone know a good way to get the batch capture to work? I've tried changing the pre-roll/post-roll from 3 seconds to 1 second but no luck. I've also tried changing the media start on the offline clip but it won't let me. Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Caleb

If you've moved the preroll to one second then I think your options might be spent. If you capture now then that should work only you'll probably have to recut them by hand unless you could trick FCP into a reconnet on the new files.

  • Automate, Batch problem with exporting files

    Hello.
I have already used batch many times where i have for example changed image size and then exported it to another folder. So my actoin looked like:
    - image size
    - export
    - close
Then i have set the batch source and destination folder and it all went smooth. All the work has been done automatically with no click needed.
Today im having problem however: When i do the above steps photoshop do all these actions to all the source files but saves them all as single file whic is being replaced over and over and over againw ith same name... I dont see any difference in what i have done now and what i have been doing all the time but this time it just do not want to modify and export the modifyied source files with their own names to the destination folded... Im stuck with 1 file in destination folder with source name of the first file in source folder (when i look in that folder during the batch process i see the thumbnail image changing)...
All i could do to finally finish my work was to delete "export" and "close" positions from the saved action so it started asking me about compression when each file has been modified... It works, finally i have all modified source files in destination folder, but it kept asking me about compression with each file... it can hardly be called automated process.
Anyone have any idea why it stopped working while it have been working before flawlessly?
    Regards
    Muniek

When you record the export (save for web),
if you change the name in export dialog, then
file will be replaced over and over.

  • Automatic batch determination with fixed batch number for production order

    Hello all,
I want to create a production order where the batc number can be assigned for one component as Batch fixed value once the order is released.
1.- I have created the characteristic (CT04) assigned to the table MCHA and field CHARG (Batch number) and one value: LINER.
2.- I have created the class (CL02) and assign to this the characteristic.
3.- I have created the sort ZSORT and the batch (MSC1N).
4.- I have checked the classification in the material and it has assigned correctly the class and characteristic and the MRP2 view has the backflush = 1, batch entry = 3 and the prod. stor. location = COIL.
5.- I have created the strategy (COB1, strategy type CO02) and assigned the selection criteria and sort.
    6.- I have created the order (CO01).
7.- I was releasing the order and the batch number was assigned but, with numbers!! and I need assign this with fixed value = LINER.
Could you help me please? How can I do it?

    Hi Vishwas.K
Thank you for your respone, but, doing more researching, let me explain you with more detail:
1.- I am going to the transaction CO02 in order to release the order, but, before it, I am checking the component by Go to > Overviews > Components.
2.- Then, I am selecting my component and making a click in "Batch determ. " button.
3.- The system is showing me many batch numbers and I select the "Selection criteria" button and the system said: "Selection class "LINERBATCH" does not contain any selection criteria". But, it has a characteristic that I have created before.
4.- Then, I select in the new screen "Selection criteria: Origin..." the"create" button.
5.- The system selection my class from the material classification and when I go back to the last screen, finally the system is showing me my batch: LINER.
Do you know why my selection criteria with my selection class is not working in automatic?
Thank you for your time and support.

  • Automatic batch classification with procedure on goods receipt does not wor

    Hi,
I have a material with batch classification.
    The material has two characteristics.
One is a number called VALUE.
The other is also a number (called CONVERSION) and shall be deived from the first.
A procedure is created and assigned to the second characteristic.
    $SET_DEFAULT ($SELF, CONVERSION , $SELF.VALUE / 6000)
When I post a goods receive (movement Type 501) the characteristics can be filled . The field VALUE is set with 12000.
I was expecting the characteristic CONVERSION to be calculated as '2' and filled by the procedure.
    This is not the case.
If however, I try to fill it manually, the system accepts only the calculated value '2'. Otherwise an error is shown.
How can I force the system to calculate and fill the second characteristic when insserting a value in the first ?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Marcus,
i have the same problem with movement type 101.
How did you solve this issue?
    Can you help me.

  • Batch Capture (Re-Capture) with Free Run TC

I'm batch capturing footage from 5 years ago for a client that wants another copy of their video. 1 tape was shot REC RUN timecode and it batch captured without issue. However, the 2nd tape is FREE RUN timecode and the capture utility bounces all over the place trying to find the in point. 50 clips, 0 successful captures.
Have adjusted handles, etc....no dice. I actually had re-captured this tape in CS4 a few years back and it worked fine, might have lost one clip total. Now in CS5, nada.
Let me know if anyone has an idea what I can do to make PPro park the playback right on the in point without trying to preroll, because nothing I've tried so far has worked.
For all I know it's a specific issue with CS5...dunno....I turned my back on MiniDV tape a while back and have not tried it since.
Using CS5, PC, Panasonic camcorder is the capture device.
    Thanks!

    Ann Bens wrote:
Why not capture the whole tape with scene detection.
Then chuck out the clips you do not want.
Ultimately this is what I intend to do if I can't find a resolution for this issue by the time I start working on the project again tomorrow. It should work, re-linking clips doesn't involve preroll or handles so I don't expect any problems going that route. I do expect to capture about twice as much footage as I actually need, as you indicated, so that will be a small hassle but that seems to be the workaround for the moment.
Thanks for the responses....if anyone else has something they'd like to add (or if anyone is aware of this kind of thing being a recognized bug) feel free to weigh in here. I might file a bug report...it seems to be that the preroll settings are not being recognized, or something along those lines.
Oh, I should also have noted that this is a fresh (er...4 week old) install of CS5 on a fresh (ahem...also 4 week old) install of Win7 x64. So there's not an application conflict...this is just an Adobe computer for all intents and purposes.

  • Automatic Scene detection

    Hi,
I just purchased a Powerbook and I am a new Apple user (converted from PC). I used to use a Pinnacle program but now I am very excited to try the iMovieHD which comes with the laptop.
Unfortunately, when I tried to create my first movie, I have a problem already with importing my images. My images won't split into clips. The program only shows everything as 1 long clip. I checked my preferences to make sure that the automatic scene detection feature is on. I didn't set the time and date of my camcorder.
My question is: (1) Is setting the date and time of my camcorder really criticial when you import the images? (2) eventhough the date and time is not set, i have several scenes which were shots at different time, but iMovie still didn't pick it up as a new clip, eventhough there was a good 5 seconds of nothing in the tape. How can that be? (3) if setting date and time the only way to do an automatic scene detection, what will be my next option to create several clips. Is there a way to do it manually (please...I hope this is not the answer).
Any tips are greatly appreciated. I already convinced my husband to convert from PC to MAC, hoping that for media stuff MAC is better and friendlier than PC. Please, show me that this is true.
    Thanks in advance,
    Amanda

Here is a link to an Apple Article about automatic scene detection:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61412
My clock was not set, but as soon as I turn the "internal clock" on, it shows the correct time and date right away.
I'm a bit confused now! If the clock is showing the correct date and time then it must be set and shouldn't be causing a problem with scene detection. With my camera (see details below), when I switch to record (standby) mode and select the menu item Clock Set, it shows the date and time, but there is no switch to turn the clock off or on.
It might be worth doing a short test recording with, say, 3 or 4 short scenes with a break of about 10 seconds or so between each scene. Import that to iMovie and see if the scenes are automatically detected (make sure the preference is checked first). If not, it might be worth deleting (trashing) iMovie's preference file - it's in your User (Home) folder under Library/Preferences and named com.apple.iMovie.plist. A new default preference file will be created by iMovie next time it is opened - you may then need to change some settings to your own preference, as required. Note that preference files in OS X can sometimes become corrupted - trashing them can often fix minor issues.

  • Scene Detect not functioning in Premiere Pro CS6

    Hello all,
Having an issue with Scene Detect not recognizing individual scenes when I Capture HDV footage from my Canon XH series cameras. Tapes just come in as one long file rather than individual scenes. I am using CS6 on my MAC computers (OS 10.7.5 and 10.6.8).
This is baffling as I've captured many tapes from many weddings and have never experienced this problem to this point.
I did reset my cameras to default settings recently but can't seem to find anything that would indicate that causing the issue. However, it is the only change I have made unless a recent Adobe or OS update could have caused the issue?
Your help and knowledge are greatly appreciated!

    Problem solved.
For anyone seeking a possible solution to this simple but incredibly aggravating issue: Make sure your camera's date and time fields are set. Premiere Pro's "Scene Detect" function uses your cameras time signature to differentiate scenes in your captured footage. No time code = no individual scene detection.
When I reset my camera to default settings I erased my time and date fields. I wasn't too worried about it as I typically use these cameras for their HD SDI capability with timecode captured via Tricaster, however this became a frustrating problem when I used the cameras for a recent wedding capture and I now have four long files rather than the intended multiple scenes I need for editing...
Hope this simple discovery makes someone's day a little easier...

  • Scene Detection Broken in CS6?

I'm having awful difficulty capturing video in CS6. Specifically, every 60 seconds or so CS6 keeps prompting me to save the scene it thinks it's captured, even though scene detection is *not* checked (it is off) and abort on dropped frames is also off.
I'd be happy to just have it capture the tape as a single scene, but it refuses to cooperate.
I am unable to disable scene detect, it seems.
The only other reports I was able to find relate to CS5 and the suggestions there do not seem to make any difference.
Re: Possible Work Around for Capture and Scene Detect
    Anyone else seen this problem?
    Setup:
    Mac OS X 10.10.2
    Canon GL2 (mini DV; firewire)
    Premiere Pro CS6

I ended up enabling scene detect and babysitting this particular tape. That was extremely painful and not what I expected from a professional product like Premiere.
As a side note, it seems like scene detect works and that this is perhaps a problem with a separate mechanism that tries to detect the end of tape or something.

  • Scene Detect - is an Adobe problem!!!

Many people on this forum experianced problems with Scene detection capturing with JVC camcorders. I read many suggestions here about the problems with OS, or other... It's not true, it's a strictly Adobe problem. I went for a trial to somebody who runs Avid Media Composer and it works perfect... It defines corectly the model of the camcorder and it devides perfectly the scenes according to the cuts...
So, when will Adobe take the responsability to repair the bug???
