Automatic cropping of differing photos.

Hi guys, I spend about 4 hours a week doing nothing but cropping and re-sizing images of products taken by myself.
I need to turn images like this: http://inaudible.co.uk/temp/tcpre.jpg (originally higher res)
In to something like this: http://inaudiblegames.co.uk/images/products/000000003.jpg (actual file name will be added manually)
And opening, selecting the area around the (blue/white/green/black/jewel) case, hitting crop, resizing & saving, times 600, is getting a little tiring after 2 years of doing it.
Does anyone know of any comercial software available, any PS plugins or non-Adobe related stuff, that could accomplish the task? There's no obvious reference points, and the crop location is always gonna differ, but I could attempt a single-colour background if I needed to instead of having a mouse/monitor/cables all around the edge of the image.
I've tried the auto crop stuff available atm, designed for scanned photos, and it just leaves me with a bzillion little images cropped out from the photo. I just want one - the big obvious usually rectangular non-wood coloured object from the central area of the image. Crop to the edges of that, save it, and that'd save me a few hours of work a week. I'd even pay for it n everyfink

If I read you correctly, the way you're photographing these a person will absolutely have to be involved in the cropping process, as the products differ and the background is not uniform.
One could imagine a slightly different workflow where perhaps you would shoot the images on a light table or solid, smooth background.  Even with that, I know of no software that will presently isolate the subjects.  That doesn't mean it doesn't exist; I'm certainly not all-knowing.
You do know that the Crop tool in Photoshop can be set to do the resize for you, right?
Can you describe the exact steps you go through (every keystroke, mouse click)?  Perhaps one of us here on the forum can suggest some steps (e.g., through a script or action) that might help save you a little time.

  • Printing without automatic cropping

Hello, When I print my photos, they are automatically cropped, and most of the time I lose important part of the photos. Please advise how I can print all of the original photo.

Please read this post then provide some details. What printer model? What operating system? What program are you using to print?  What size are your photo's (in pixels)?  What size are you trying to print?  Are you printing borderless?
There are a few likely issues:  first, the image size of typical camera photo's have a different aspect ratio than typical 4x6, 5x7 or 8x10 photos.  Secondly, if you do have images of the proper aspect ratio and are printing in borderless mode there will be some overspray and clipping of the image to ensure there are no white spaces around the edges.  Depending on your printer model, operating system and driver you may be able to control the amount of overspray in the "advanced" tab of the driver.  Moving the overspray control toward "least" will minimize the amount of clipping.

  • Automatic Cropping

    Hi,
I'm trying to print 4x6 photos (after using iPhoto's cropping tool, to size each picture to 4x6), but they are automatically cropped even further by the printer.
Any ideas on what's going on?
    Thanks!

This is NOT an online service problem. This is also happening to me. I tried printing on two different printers and get identical results: a perfect 4x6 photo gets a bit cropped or chopped off. I tried printing from Preview and from Photoshop with identical results (I first thougth it was a printer issue so I called Epson; my other printer is a Canon). This has got to be a OS issue! None has answered it yet. I am going to run another test, printing on a Mac with OS Tiger to see what happens. I am also on hold for Apple Support as I write this message. By the way, there is a similar posting here:

  • How can you automate to combine multiple photos in photoshop

i have thousand photos prefer to combine them in a group of 3 photos into one combined photo in an automated process...
3 photos should line up accordingly one after one ... crop the combined photo to the max size possible ... set the image size of combined photo to 2000 by 1300 pixels ... save the combined photo...
start with the next 3 photos in the folder...
is this possible to automate with photoshop cc?...

  • How do I stop iphoto from creating events automatically when I import photos from an external hard drive?

IPhoto is creating events automatically when I import photos and when I merge events and then go to finder>all images, I see iphoto has created several copies of each picture....I try to delete the extra copies but then the albums or events also get affected, even if there is one copy of each photo left in all images...have someone had this problem?

You don't have a problem at all.
IPhoto is creating events automatically when I import photos
This is how iPhoto works. Every photo is in an Event. Events are the basic organisation of the Library. Every import means at least one new Event. Yes you can merge Events after import and so on, but there is at least one Event created at each import.
I see iphoto has created several copies of each picture....
No it hasn't. It hs created versions of the photos, not copies. There will be a couple of thumbnails  for viewing in the iPhoto Window plus the Master and then a edited version for pics that are modified. The icons for each of these may be similar but they are not copies - for a start they are different sizes - and all are required for iPhoto to work.
    go to finder>all images
Don't. This is simply a list of all the images on your computer. It makes no account or allowance for the purpose of these images. Really, if you're using iPhoto ignore this because if you
I try to delete the extra copies
Then you are trashing your Library.
So, this is how iPhoto works, there is no problem and stay away from All Images.

  • Automatic crop ?

    Hi,
I have a weird behavior of Lightroom today on one particular image.
    I don't understand what's happening and I don't know what I'm missing...
I have this image of a train (portait) that I want to crop to landscape so I press R, do my crop, validate with Enter.
I continue to the next image.
When I come back to my train image, Lightroom automatically crop it in portait without asking me !
    Any idea ?

    Thanks for your fast answer.
Can you developp the part "where the crop overlay doesn't touch the edges".
If a corner of the crop overlay touch the right or left edge of the original photo, it should be ok ?
In my case it is not...

  • Click on thumbnail and different photo appears

this just happened yesterday...when i click on a thumbnail, a different photo appears...help! do i need to redo all of my albums?
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   library is on LaCie drive

    FBSC:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You shouldn't have to redo all your albums. Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options regarding the thumbnails and database. That should reset the library correctly.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Imovie 3 crops imported still photos

I'm trying to make a slide show of still images. Imovie 3 crops my imported photos (NOT from iphoto) to fit screen, instead of shrinking photos to fit. How to correct? Thanks.

Thanks, everyone. Ken Burns WAS off; I ended up just re-sizing my images in photoshop before importing.
BUT whether I import via iPhoto or just from my desktop, the images are really pixelated when played back on Quicktime player. Will it look different after burning to DVD? The images are 1280 x 960, 150dpi. And BTW, you DO need to embed a color profile, at least in this experience.
    Thanks again.

  • Pixel Dimensions after Cropping with "Use Photo Ratio"

Why don't Pixel Dimensions (and Document Size) change for Image Size after cropping with "Use Photo Ratio" like it does after cropping with "No Restriction"? Using Photoshop Elements 10 and Crop Tool defaults.

Thank you all. I think I figured out how to crop using "Use Photo Ratio"
with Crop tool so that I can ensure that my photos are cropped only
proportionately and PSE 10 doesn't upsample pixels:
    1) Select Crop tool.
    2) Set "Use Photo Ratio" in Aspect Ratio setting in Options bar if not
    already set.
    3) Make crop selection as usual but don't complete (commit) crop.  Will
only be able to crop proportionately.
    4) When ready to complete crop, change Aspect Ratio setting to "No
Restriction" which blanks out width, height and resolution setting.
    5) Complete (commit) crop as usual.
Photo will be cropped proportionately, width and height will change
automatically to cropped size and pixels will not be upsampled avoiding
lose of detail, that is, PSE will behave as though No Restriction had been
specified from the outset. Blanking width and height before making crop
selection forces either Custom  or No Restriction setting which means that
PSE will let me make non-proportional crop.
PS. IMHO I think making "Use Photo Ratio" force upsampling is NOT a good
"design feature" when you are not warned about it and are not given a
choice to not make it upsample.

  • Crop and Straighten Photos in CS6

I open a 8"x10" jpeg or any other photo then go over to FILE menu and drop down to AUTOMATE then over to CROP and STRAIGHTEN PHOTO,S
Now what happens is that three other copies appear copy ,copy  2 copy 3 .
My original is OK at 8"x10" followed by the copy being 5"X7" then copy2 is about 1/2"x2" and copy 3 is about 3/4"x3/4"
I think this is being caused by interaction with CS5 as the same happens there.
CS4 is all OK this not being affected.
Now in CS4 i can crop and straighten but in CS5 and CS6 nothing can be done.
    Kip

OK, here's the scoop:  the feature in File>automate>crop and straighten is designed for those who scan in several photos with white space between them. It will make it's best attempt at separating each photograph by looking for the white space around them. It will then crop each photo to the edges it determines and make each straight based on the detected edge.
It is not designed to straighten the image in a photo.  If you run this on a photograph, it is looking really hard for white space and will make its best attempt to separate what it thinks are independent items or photos and save each to a file.
If you want to straighten an image, go to the ruler tool and draw a line and choose straighten layer to get a rotation only, or go to the crop tool and select straighten, and draw a line that you wish to be the horizontal. This one will crop also.
I hope that clears up the issue.

  • FCP X 10.1.3 is automatically cropping stills, making them unusable. Any ideas?

FCP X 10.1.3 is automatically cropping stills, making them unusable. It is also doing the same thing to photos in existing projects. Unfortunately, I was trying to complete a project this morning and now it is worthless. Have rebooted and trashed preferences. Any ideas? Thanks.

These are pictures from our iPhone 5 (3264 x 2448, jpg). The first attachment is the largest size FCP allows to be inserted. The second attachment is the full picture. The screen captures come from FCP's media viewer. If you hover over a picture you get the cropping,
    Project settings follow:
Changing Spatial Conform settings has no effect. Deleting pictures and re-importing does not work either. Don't hesitate to ask for more information. Appreciate the help.

  • Scanned bmp, cut off with Automate, Crop

I open PS and place a platen-load of photos on the scanner.
Using HP Scanjet 7650 and Omnipage Pro 12 I scan making one bmp.
I close the scanner program and have my bmp opened in PS.
    A. File, Automate, Crop and straighten results in 4 psd files.
    BUT
sometimes one or more of the 4 are miscut by PSCS. I then have to go into the original composite .bmp and recrop just the one that was miscut. How to avoid this or what am I doing wrong.
    B.Let's say you've got 10 individual .bmps.
How to convert all at once to jpegs of a certain dimension?

If the post "Copy changed photos to Folder" gets answered, then that will be good enough for me here for now. Saw it after I posted mine.

  • I am trying to make some funny pictures by combining(cutting and pasting) different photos. Does anyone know how to do that? or know software that i can get?

I am trying to make some funny pictures by combining(cutting and pasting) different photos. Does anyone know how to do that? or know software that i can get?

You'll need an external editor for that kind of work.
In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Seashore (free)
    The Gimp (free)
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    Pixelmator ($50 approx)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
    Comic Life 2 (http://plasq.com/products/comiclife2)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • How can I prevent iPhoto from automatically cropping my shot for printing?

I've got a shot that is about 6 inches wide and 3 inches tall.  I want to print it on 5x7 inch paper but iPhoto keeps cropping it automatically so that there is no white space on top or bottom and cutting off the ends of my picture.  Is there a way to make it print on 5x7 without automatically cropping it?
    Thank you.

Select a Custom size in the print window, i.e. 6 x 3, and try with the 5 x 7 stock.  That should place the image on the stock .
