Automatic deletion of texts in iMessage

I have an iPhone 4 and recently upgraded to iOS 5. I have noticed that as I send/receive a new iMessage or SMS with a friend on iOS 5, an older text with the same contact is automatically deleted. The automatic deletion of older texts seems to only affect contacts who have switched to iOS 5 (iMessage). I have about 20 GB space left on the phone so it's not a storage issue. I've talked to my carrier (AT&T) and Apple Support. No one seems to know what is going on. Can anyone please help?

The archives in streams are deleted by Rman. This process is driven by the value of 'CHECKPOINT_RETENTION_TIME', whose default value is 60 and should always be set to 1, unless you have a good reason to not do so.
This parameter, that can bee seen in DBA_CAPTURE, tells Rman how much additional days Rman needs to keep archives AFTER they are not needed anymore.
Rman never deletes an archive if it is still needed by a subscriber ( to a queue - aka one capture process).
execute dbms_capture_adm.alter_capture(capture_name=> 'MY_CAPTURE_NAME' , checkpoint_retention_time=> 1 );I have no clue as of why the Dev team decided that archives not needed anymore will be purged by default 60 days after. Maybe that days they smoked the carpet.

Mail - Subject line automatically deletes with text input

Another 'annoying' intermittent issue with 10.5.1 upgrade.
When I begin a new mail message, the subject line automatically deletes and highlights what would be the affected number of characters when I begin typing the subject. Once I input 4 characters, the line is deleted. It occurs 75% of the time.
Anyone else having the same issues, or have a possible fix?

would you happen to have a plug in or input manager such as rapidowrite or text expander or some other sort of app installed with Mail and AB by any chance? (if you have rapidowrite, i believe there is a new version that is more compatible with leopard, recently released.)
if so, then i would suggest you quit mail, then uninstall/get rid of these, drag them to the desktop, launch mail again and see if that clears the issue.
you can find these plug-ins in homefolder/library/mail/bundles and in homefolder/library/address book plug-ins

My iMessages are automatically deleting and it doesn't alert me when I get a new message even though I haven't touched my notification settings..help?!?!

My iPod Touch 4th Gen was running very slow, so after reading a blog, I doings clicked my home button and pressed the red button to stop some apps from running. It made my iPod work relatively faster, but my iMessages didn't seem to be working in the same way as they used to. It no longer alerts me when I have a message, even though I haven't touched my notification settings and my messages are always being automatically deleted. It doesn't even show the number or messages in a red circle anymore, I just have to check my messages by clicking into iMessage instead...
This is really annoying me and I can't save old messages anymore or reply quickly to any! Please help!

Delete old text messages and iMessages in iOS 5.1?

On my iPhone, I noticed that the "Other" file in iTunes had grown. I also remember hearing that "Other" was your app data (like Angry Birds high scores), Text messages/iMessages, and so on. I was wondering if it was possible to delete older Messages (pursay any messages older then a month ago) and not the newer ones. Please let me know. Thanks.

Other includes data such as iPhone settings, contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cache/cookies, all email and email attachments, SMS/MMS/iMessages, notes, data created and stored by a 3rd party apps. You could go through and delete older messages but I doubt that would reduce the size of Other very much. If Other is getting quite larege (> 2 gigs) then it's possible that it is corrupted. If this is the case you backing up your phone and restoring it will often fix this. Follow this guide if you wish to do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.

Wi-Fi is not required for iMessage. Internet access is required for iMessage which includes when the iPhone is connected to the cellular network.
If an iMessage cannot be sent, it will fail to send and you will be prompted to send as an SMS if text only.

Should iMessage conversations deleted on iPhone be automatically deleted on Mac w/Mountain Lion?

I've been searching exhaustively for an answer to this question & haven't found one yet. I have a MacBook Pro 13" (February 2011) with Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I also have an iPhone 4 w/iOS 6. I have it Messages on the Mac synced with iMessages on the phone exactly as people have instructed, and I do see conversations on one showing up on the other. What I don't understand, though, is that when I delete a conversation on one, that conversation is not deleted from the other. Is that supposed to be the case? I would have expected that, with all the new iCloud integration, if you delete a iMessage conversation on, say, the iPhone, it will automatically delete that conversation on the Mac or other iOS devices that are synced. Any thoughts?

Mine have to be deleted on each device. My wife's devices are the same. Evidently, that is the way it is set up.

I had this very same problem when trying to activate iMessage and Facetime on my iPad. When I signed into my account, I actually wasn't even presented with the option of a phone number - notwithstanding the fact that I was contacting others (and being reached by others) by my phone number on my iPhone. Having both the iPad and the iPhone on, I kept trying to turn off and on both iMessage and Facebook in Settings on both my iPad and iPhone, hoping that that they would eventually sync. But this proposed solution by others was unsuccessful for me.
Then, I found out what the problem was: When my iPhone was activated, it automatically registered my phone number for contact purposes. I was using iMessage on my iPhone for quite some time without actually being signed into my Apple ID account. When another device - such as an iPad or iPod - is being used for iMessage or Facebook, you are prompted to sign into your Apple account, using your username and password. These two devices will not register your phone number as an option for contact unless your iPhone is signed into your Apple account as well. In other words: your phone number will not be synced.
Go into your "Settings" on your iPhone and click on "Messages". Scroll down and click on "Send & Receive" (which should be followed by your phone number). On the next page, you will be able to determine whether or not your iPhone is using the Apple ID for messaging purposes. (Note: This information applies for Facetime as well.) If it is using your Apple ID for messaging, than at the top, you will see "Apple ID: <your particular e-mail account>" in Blue text. However, if you are not using your Apple ID for messaging, than you will see the words: "Use your Apple ID for message". Even though below this you will see your phone number checked as the contact source, you will want to click the tab that says, "Use your Apple ID for message". Sign into your account (just as you must sign in for iMessage on your other devices), and just choose your phone number as the "Send & Receive" contact. (The option of the e-mail will be there too, but you don't have to check it. And later on, you can delete it as an option.)
Now that all of your devices are signed in using your Apple ID, the other devices should register your phone number as a choice. It may take a little while, however. What I did was sign out of iMessage on my iPad, and then sign in again. If the option didn't appear, I just went back and signed in again, and kept doing this until the option for the phone number appeared.
Again, this will work for Facetime as well. The solution is to sync your iPhone account with the other devices by using your Apple ID for messaging (and Facetime) purposes.

This was driving me crazy but I've cracked it!!
Go to: Settings, Messages, Send & Receive. My mobile number was greyed out and wouldn't allow me to select it. My email address was highlighted but it also allowed me to "Add An Email". I selected my current email address and it gave me the option to delete it. Once I deleted my email address, it automatically reverted to my mobile number!!

IF that is the only iDevice activated for that recipient, then no. It should not successfully send as an iMessage if the phone is powered off or has no data connection. If you have Send as SMS turned on, it should automatically fallback to SMS after a few minutes. Of course, they won't get this until they power on their phone, assuming they have a text messaging plan with their carrier.

Delete Record Automatically deleting

I have been trying to see if anyone has had this same issue with no real luck. I was hoping someone could give me a quick hand. I am created a delete record page as you would usually do. It is supposed to populate like any other page first so that yiou see the user's information. You should then be able to hit the delete button to delete the actual record. Unfortunately as soon as you go to the page it automatically deletes the record not giving you a chance to review the file first.
Here is the standard delete record code from Dreamweaver:

OK so thi sis not the "RIGHT" answer as I still don't know why it is automatically deleting. But with that in mind all I did was create a "View" page stating "ARE YOU SURE YOU WOULD LIKE TO DLETE THIS USER?" After that they are then sent to the delete record page which then deletes the record. If anyone wants to take a stab at it here is the complete code for the "delete" page. There may be something i am just not seeing ...

When I delete a text message conversation, the Messaging app stops working.

I have tried to delete text threads, but whenever I do, I can no longer use the Message app. After deleting a text thread and exiting the app, if I try to go back into the app, it loads really slowly, and then all of my messages are gone. So then, it pops up to create a new message, so I will type in the person's name and then begin to type in the message, but it will not send. This happens with SMS text and iMessage text. I usually have to turn my phone off and on several times before it starts working again. Anyone else having this issue? Any ideas on what I can do?

Automatic deletion dashes or dots

Hi,
I have one question. Every week I make flyer (leaflet) with 120 products witch everyone have some price.
The price must look like this.
But in material from my employer, prices are formated like 1,25 or 1.36...
I can automatically format this numbers via paragraph styles and GREP but I can't automatically delete dots.
So my question is. Is it possible to automatically delete dots from this numbers? I want just copy this price from text document and paste it to the text frame. Everithing else must be automatic

Other than a GREP style? Well, not automatically, but you could run a Find/Change on your document remove them all in one step. And you could conceivably use a script to automatically run that kind of Find/Change on your document, though that might be inadvisible (easy to screw up and lose track).

E66 automatically 'selects' written text in forms,...

Dear all,
My E66 phone is really annoying me. If someone here has no proper solution for this problem, I think it's a problem with my phone only.
The problem is that, wherever I write, especially when I fill in 'forms', after a while it automatically turns in a mode where I only can select the written text. At that moment I can't just go to the next place to fill in or leave it just like that or save the changes I made. I have to close the whole program or option I am using.
This happens with for example Nokia Maps by filling in the search options (Place, Address, etc.) and by adding an entry to my calendar. Sometimes I'm already stuck after writing the event-title. The most annoying is getting stuck after writing an SMS. I can't properly delete parts of my message anymore because when I go back with the key it automatically selects the text.
Has anyone else this same problem? I have the newest firmware, and the problem still exists.
If there is a solution I really would like to know it. I have already reset my whole phone once and that even didn't help out.

I had the same problem on both E51 and E66 after I installed the Garmin GPS Navigator... I unistalled that and everything now works fine.
