Automatic disabling cellular data

i bought my iphone 5 about 2 month ago ,but the next day it started disabling cellular data at night (but I can't enable it - need to reboot before I can use it).
I'm not using any modifications to my iOS ,so I think you can help me.

That might not be possible , consider the case when you want to send an SMS, the SMSComposeTask launches the default messaging editor not that you can send an sms directly from your app. Similar to this, the OS takes you to the page which controls the
mobile data settings from where user can alter that instead any application doing this by its own.

SOLUTION! (NO NEED TO RESET YOUR IPHONE SETTING!)
I have the same issue for the last two weeks. But i have already managed to solve the issue all by myself. When i go to Settings > Cellular > below the tab "use cellular data for:", i turned off some apps which i didnt want to use with cellular data. As soon as i go back to Settings, and then i went back to Cellular, the apps which i had switched off earlier, automatically turned back on.
    Here's the solution:
Either you're using wifi or cellular data, first of all you're gonna hafto turn on the cellular data use for App Store. Once you have turned it on, go to App Store application. Update ALL the apps which have new updates available. If it asks you to log in your App Store, just do so. If there's something wrong with your debit or credit card information, it will ask you to update to a different card. Just do what it asks. Put in a new credit or debit card info and fill in the forms provided. The card you're using must be usable and has usable balance in it. Let's say atleast $10 to $20. As soon as it confirms your card successfully, the app updates will start automatically. Continue to update all the apps. After all updates are finished, go back to Settings > Cellular. Try to switch on or off some apps for data use and recheck.
Try it yourself! Have a nice day and don't put a blame on Apple for this.
    From Malaysia, with love.

  • When I try to disable cellular data in the settings for my apps it will toggle fine, but once I exit and go back in to the cellular settings its back on again all by itself.

I have had a problem with my iphone 4s for some time now but I have just been so busy to try and fix it. When I try to disable cellular data in the settings for my apps it will toggle fine, but once I exit and go back in to the cellular settings its back on again all by itself. However, even though it says the data is on, I can’t use the data when I don’t have wifi. I tried restoring my phone a few times and the last time I did that, it wouldn’t turn my service on so I had to talk with a Verizon agent for a long time trying to fix it and finally they simply sent me another phone. I thought hey new phone, this part will be fixed. However, I got my service to work but it’s still the same problem with the cellular data. I have just left it alone and not worried about it, but it’s still not fixed and thought I could ask on here if anyone had any ideas. It has something to do with the apps actually installed on the iphone. Apps like the mail, safari, settings, itunes apps, etc. All my other apps turn on and off just fine. Does anyone have any ideas?

Read the User's Guide... it covers how to backup and sync the device as designed.

    1. I do not know if this will help you or not. In researching this issue with my wife's iPhone 5c 8GB, the most common answer you will get is to adjust this or that setting, and disable this or that App. These at best are only a band-aide solution at all. The best reply I got was from a Verizon Rep that stated "By design, iPhones do turn off WiFi when they go dormant. So if a download is in progress, or information is being back-up wirelessly and the phone goes dormant, it will switch to use cellular data if it is left on". Afterwards, I discovered the exact same information here on the Apple Support Forum to support this statement.
    2. Later onward, I read that if you keep your iPhone connected to a power source, it will prevent it from going dormant. In which case, this will prevent the iPhone from turning off the WiFi, and keep it connected to the WiFi. So far, this has help the most in controlling the amount of data usage being used, by my wife's iPhone.
    3. Now about looking at the detailed usage summary online, you can not go by it to see the exalt date/time stamp of the data usage. Because, by design the cell towers will collect and store certain data usage for up to a six-hours period. After the six-hour period, then the cell towers will release the stored data usage to the company's servers. And at that time, the collected data usage will be recorded on your detailed usage summary online. For a long time, I brainwork that I had caught Verizon with their hand in the cookie jar for say. Because I knew that we were not using data usage at these odd-ball hours of the night or day. Yet, now I have learn that this is just not the case.

  • IOS6 on iphone 4S. My phone keeps disconnecting from my wifi. I have to input the password each time. The only way i can keep wifi connected is to disable cellular data....what's with this????!!!!!

I downloaded IOS6. The next day my iphone was not connecting to wifi. I reset network connections...put in my password and voila it worked!....But then it dosconnected again..and again...and again....my wifes iphone 4 is not having this problem and she also installed IOS6. The only way I can stay connected to wifi is if i disable my cellular data. What is going on???...Anyone?......

Is it a BT Yahoo account? If so, there have been quite a few threads about Yahoo constantly rejecting passwords, with no clear fix.
That said, I did see someone post that they'd resolved the problem by eliminating any capital letters from the password. After that it stopped asking for passwords and started working, apparently. One or two others tried the 'fix' and seemed to have the same success. At least they haven't come back to say it had gone wrong again.

  • Can I disable Cellular data (US Data plan) and still use the Find My Iphone Service (GPS??) in France?

I have a US Model iPhone 4 (ATT).  I'll be traveling to France for 2 months and I'd like to be able to disable my cellular data while on travel.
    My questions:
    - Can I do this and still access Wifi? I think yes
    - Can I do this and still use Skype? I think yes
    - Can I do this and still use GPS for the Find My iPhone Service?  I don't know....
    - If I can't do any of the above then what are my options?
    JC

Find my Phone requires a data connection. If cellular data is turned off, it will be pretty much useless unless you are constantly connected to WiFi, which of course you won't be. Same with Skype, data connection required, so will work when connected to WiFi. Unlees the mapping data is stored locally on your phone, GPS will be useless, as the built in Maps app requires a data connection as none of the data is stored on your phone.

  • Restoring from a backup disables cellular data

I just switched tonight from an ATT iphone 4 to the Verizon iphone 5.
I made a backup of my ATT phone using Itunes and restored that to the new iphone 5.
After restore cellular data no longer works on my Verizon iPhone 5.
I have been able to duplicate and confirm the issue by erasing all content, activating the phone, test working cellular data, then restoring the backup again and losing cellular data. I can assure you that all options to disable 3G/cellular data are correct both before and after the restore.
I also have a ticket in for signal issues. My phone will get stuck in 1x mode even though the signal should be 3g as 3g signal worked in the same spot mins before. Once again something I can replicate.
I suspect the phone needs a modem update or the network needs an update in order work with the new iphone 5 modem.

Hey sA, I'm running into the exact same issue restoring an AT&T iPhone 4 onto a Verizon iPhone 5. Been on the phone with Verizon customer service for an hour today, and they had me try everything (reset network settings, ejecting and re-inserting SIM card) wouldn't work. I wonder how many AT&T shipjumpers are in the same boat...
I've tried installing custom APN but I'm hitting an error telling me I already have an APN installed, so I can't install another one. Going to try your method right now. Hopefully I can replicate it.
    I think you cracked it!

  • Can't disable cellular data

I'm on a limited data plan and tend to use my Iphone as a podcast player that can send text messages, so this is a big one for me.
Since upgrading to Podcasts 2.2 last month, Podcasts has kept using cellular data even though it's been told not to twice - both in the app settings ("Only Download on Wi-Fi") and in the 'Mobile/Use Mobile Data For' settings.  It's eating about 300MB/month.
I'm still using OS 7.1.2 and running an Iphone 4S.
Is anyone having this problem or able to suggest a solution?

Podcast 2.2 works well with iOS 8.0.2 so I can think of two possible reasons for your problem:
    1) there may be a small corruption in your installation of Podcast 2.2.
    2) the "Only Download on Wifi" option in iOS 7 may no longer work properly for Podcast 2.2.
I'd try deleting, then reinstalling Podcast 2.2 first. However, an update to iOS 8.0.2
    may be the only solution.

  • App (coursera) with disabled cellular data still eats my data. What to do?

    Hi!
Coursera already finished my first GB. I thought that I have not turned off cellular access for that app.
So I double checked that. I reset cellular usage statistics.
Now Coursera is eating LTE traffic even with OFF switch: 16mb, 25mb,...
When I start an app there is no warning about cellular access.
    What to do?
    IPad Air, latest iOS

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the problem continues, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

  • Does iPhone4 (Verizon) automatically DISABLE 3G when in WiFi?

I know that when in WiFi, the iPhone4 will prefer / use the WiFi network instead of the 3G network.  However, my question is whether the iPhone automatically disables the 3G radio when in WiFi.  I have unlimited 3G data, but WiFi is faster and is also better on the battery, so when I am in WiFi I prefer to use it instead of 3G.  I want 3G disabled while I am in WiFi to save battery.  Of course, I can manually go in, enable WiFi and disable 3G, but I have noticed that when my iPhone connects to WiFi, the WiFi antenna symbol replaces the 3G symbol next to the Verizon bars.  This makes me wonder if the iPhone is actually turning off 3G automatically when it connects to WiFi versus just preferring WiFi but still having the 3G radio on.
    Thanks!

Perhaps I didn't phrase the question exactly right.  I can go into Settings and disable 3G (actually on the Vz iPhone it is Disable Cellular Data), which leaves voice connectivity but no ablity to get 3G data, and helps preserve battery.  When I am in WiFi, does the iPhone automatically disable Cellular Data or does this still have to done manually?  Thanks!

  • How can I disable the "Cellular data is turned off for this app" message while on WiFi?

Super annoying: all apps I disable cellular data for popup with this message while on WiFi. It makes total sense for the message to display while on cellular data, but how can I make it stop while I'm on WiFi?!?!

I find it very frustrating that only some users like me but not all have this issue.. This is clearly a bug in within the newest update and it is the most annoying. Apple need to fix this. I have no data, it comes up, the wifi is on, it comes up. Regardless of what i do, On or Off and even restoring the device it still continues to do it. Anything posted about how to fix this issue "manually" will be disregarded until Apple tech fix the software issue..

  • What is using my cellular data?

iPad 2, freshly reset, recently updated to iOS 6.1. The only installed app is Skype, which is set to go offline after 60 min. Location services are disabled, cellular data for Appstore ist also disabled.
I now had the iPad lying around for two days and according to my cell bill on both days around 3 am it used the internet, yesterday 15 kB, the day before 140 kB. This is a problem because in my cellular data plan any day where I use cellular data, I have to pay 2,50 €.
I know that I can disable cellular data completely, but I would rather have the iPad just don't use it when it's off (for more than an hour, when Skype shut down).
What can also cause this traffic?
Or are there any apps to block all applications from using cellular data except Safari and Skype?

If the phone is asleep and not connected to an external power source, it will use the cellular data connection for mail, push notifications, etc. This is by design. To keep the WiFi radio on with no external power source connected would drastically reduce battery life. Of course, it appears Safari and App Store are using WiFi, because they can only be used interactively... Mail will use WiFi as well IF the phone is not asleep and is connected to a WiFi network.
If you turn cellular data off, the phone will power up the WiFi radio to poll the mail server since there is no other option.
You can set mail to retrieve message manually instead of using push or polling. This will ensure that pulling down your mail can only be initiated by you, and if you make sure you have a live WiFi connection before doing so, it shouldn't be a problem.
Since you've seen a sharp increase in the last month, I'm assuming you're either getting much more mail than you had been previously, or you've been getting more 'large' messages or both.
I don't know what kind of data usage you're used to seeing or what you consider a sharp increase. Is it pushing you over your cap?
