Automatic Email Retrieval through Access Point Gro...

Hi,
Has anyone else had problems with applications locking up while using 'Automatic Retirieval' through 'Access Point Groups' on a wireless network?
My phone works fine in every other respect but as soon as I schedule it to access my email account (not BB) I invariably get one of the following instabilities:
The email application will not collect at the set intervals or...
It'll collect emails at the set intervals for a while & then lock up either the:
• Email application,
• All internet applications,
• The 'Email key' (but the application is still accessible via the icons).
• or the Email Key loses its settings: ‘Item no longer available. Restoring default multimedia key’
I can manually collect email & use the web through the same ‘Access Point Group’ & I have two other computers running off this wireless network fine?

This sounds like a reasonable request, is the v11 firmware just broken in this regard?

  • Bug with automatic email retrieval (don't want to ...

Please tell me where to report bug?
When I set automatic email retrieval on my N71 after retrieving email phone stay connected and don’t want to disconnect automatically so i need go to inbox and set disconnect.  Its a stupid way of automatic retrieval it suppose to connect, check mail and disconnect. I try it on my N95, same problem. It's spending battery too much. And it’s a big bug.
    Best Regards.

    Hi Rumcajs,
Any ideas why the connection is not lasting for the day instead of 10-30mn?
Or let me re-phrase: How can I have the e-mail client on my E75 to pick up e-mails on the e-mail server all day long and instantly as it works for web-browser or using thunderbird client? As a user I want to turn on my phone in the morning and then select the "connect all" option either on my Wi-Fi network or 3G network and then get my e-mails all day long without having to re-connect every 1/2 hour (in my case 5mn).
I'm using multiple e-mail accounts: my work account (IMAP idle), gmail and windows live.
If I select the "connect all" option it usually connect to only one of the mailbox and never to the three of them.
I usually have to repeat the "connect all" operation 3 times. Why and what (if there is one) is the fix so that the connect all does connect to all your e-mail accounts in one go?
The connect all is an option from the main e-mail screen, where you can see the icons of all your different e-mails accounts and the settings, new and help icons.
Last, it would be good to be able to use Nokia's "destination" for e-mail account. The "destination" feature work with other application and it is very appreciated to prioritise the connection (Wi-fi 1, Wi-fi 2, ... Wi-fi x,  3G) to use.
Any ideas if this will be supported soon?
    Regards,
    Benoit

  • Automatic email retrieval interval ~ E65

Within the email settings on my E65 I only have the option of setting my automatic email retrieval interval to a maximum of 30 minutes.
Why wouldn't you be able to set it much higher like down to 15, 10, 5, or even 1 minute.
This drives me crazy. Does anyone have a workaround?
    Thanks,
    J

It's probably not much consolation to you, but if you use imap instead of pop you can reduce the automatic retrieval time to 5mins.

  • Automatic email retrieval problem 5800 XM

Can anyone explain the following behaviour on my shiny new 5800?
I have several mailboxes set up (UK Orange/ personal WLAN) and the access points are set up seemingly according to the rules. I wish my emails to be retrieved automatically at 15 minute intervals during the working day. BRILLIANT... it all works perfectly.
    BUT.......
I also want it to prioritise the connection (access point) it uses so that it uses my WLAN whenever possible. I believe that this should be possible to achieve using the access groups setting in destinations; the "Internet" group is even set up with the correct priorities automatically. Unfortunately unless I have a single access point (eg WLAN) set up as default access, retrieval magically becomes manual only; not only that, but if out of WLAN range, even a manual retrieval results in an error (WLAN not available) instead of moving smoothly to the Priority 2 access point (Orange internet).
Sorry it's a bit long and rambling - but very frustrated here as I can't seem to find any other settings which might affect this behaviour.
    Thanks

This sounds like a reasonable request, is the v11 firmware just broken in this regard?

  • N96 automatic email retrieval problems

quick question: I have set up my N96 to get my emails every 1 hour. However, whenever it checks for the emails a message pops up where I need to MANUALLY select how the phone is supposed to connect to the mailbox (WLAN, 3G or whatever). Hardly makes sense, as I want th phone to AUTOMATICALLY check and not select 3G every hour by hand. Any idea where/what I need to change?
    Cheers,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There's a bug in the N96. Normally, you should be able to go into the mailbox settings and change the default access point to use, but you can't because of this bug.
Untill the bug is fixed, you'll have to delete the mailbox and then re-create it specifying an access point to use.

  • No AirPlay when connected through access point

I have my wireless setup with a main router in one room and another router (a DIR615) in another room setup as an access point.
I have an Apple TV 2. gen which is hooked up by ethernet.
Everytime Im connected wirelessly through the main router, AirPlay works fine, by when Im connected through the DIR615 (the access point), theres no AirPlay.
When Im on the access point everything else seem to work fine - only thing thats missing is AirPlay. Oh and Remote has the same issue.
The DIR615 has an option called "Use as access point" which I turned on. Then I set it to broadcast the same SSID as the main router with the same password. Is that wrong set up?
I can access my other device like my NAS with no problems through both the main router and the access point.

I have noticed a similar issue.
Years ago, I extended my original wired network with an Airport Express (AE) acting as a bridged access point. When I got my iPod Touch, I noticed that the AE would go out to lunch occasionally if the WiFi on the Touch was on. But when the AE was functioning correctly, I could do AirPlay from the Touch to the AE.
With the addition of an iPhone and another Touch in the house, the AE was becoming more flaky, so I bought an access point product from Trendnet. This device bridges another wireless network to the same IP subnet (192.168.1.0/24) as the wired and AE wireless network, but it is a different wireless network (SSID) from the AE wireless.  This allows me to configure the handheld devices to only connect to the Trendnet. Now the AE no longer crashes. (Pretty ironic that I need to buy a non-Apple device to get it to work...).
However, I do not get the AirPlay icon when a handheld is connected to the Trendnet network.  I just tried connecting one of the Touches to the AE wireless and when I do, voila, I do get the AirPlay icon.
Theoretically, the path taken to the AE from the handheld shouldn't matter, but it looks like Apple engineered it so that it does. Maybe AirPlay doesn't run over IP??  It is disappointing and I hope it gets fixed.

  • How to automate restart of multiple access points?

I need to restart multiple access points, at least twice a day. This is my interim solution for the dlink dap2553...simply to restart them. Each AP has the same username and password, but different IPs (of course).

Have a look a the powershell cmdlets for stopping and starting an service:
    Stop-Service and
    Start-Service
and put in an powershell script, e. g.:
    Stop-Service -Name Service1
    Stop-Service -Name Service2
    Stop-Service -Name Service3
    Start-Service -Name Service3
    Start-Service -Name Service2
    Start-Service -Name Service1
then you can put this into an scheduled task.

  • Automatic Email retrieval options

Can anyone explain the difference between the email auto retrieval options?
On my N95, in Messaging->Options->Settings->Email->Mailboxes->{Mailbox}->Automatic retrieval there are two settings:
    E-mail notifications
    - Auto-update
    - Only in home netw.
    - Disabled
    E-mail retrieval
    - Enabled
    - Only in home netw.
    - Disabled
You can only set one of these, i.e. E-mail notifications or E-mail retrieval. What does "Auto-update" do, and what does "home network" mean? Not WLAN home network I assume ...?
The E-mail notifications setting does not seem to work. I've tried this on both IMAP and POP mailboxes. The retrieval settings work fine.
    Any help?
    Thanks,
    Piers.

  • N97 mini, email retrieval, and definition of "home...

Could somebody please explain what is meant by "home network" in the automatic email retrieval settings? I can't find any place to define this "home network" and I can't find info in the manual about it either. At home I'm connected to my WIFI network but at other places I'm either connected via GPRS or via other WIFI networks, so it's impossible for the Nokia to just know what my home network is.
What I did notice is that automatic email retrieval only works if I set "Email retrieval" to "Enabled". If I set it to "Only in home network" then it doesn't work.
What I really want to achieve is that email is retrieved automatically only when I'm in a WIFI network and not when I'm using GPRS.

    Hi Justasking,
Availability of firmware updates is dependent on carrier and country variants. If your phone is branded (e.g. Vodafone is your carrier and has there custom wallpapers / apps etc), then Nokia release the firmware to your carrier and it is up to them whether they will work on and release the update to you. If your phone is a country variant, this means that Nokia releases the firmware to your country's Nokia, and it is up to your country whether to add their own country requirements / custom apps etc. If your phone is branded, contact your carrier for an update schedule and availability, but if your phone is a country variant, contact your local Nokia Care point and ask them about availability.

  • E90 / E51 (and other?) --Access point groups-- ar...

    Hi All
I‘ve seen that in the new E51 the Access point groups are gone.
In my (older) E70 the Access point groups are installed and they are GREAT.
It’s a pity, that they are gone, because you waste much money to your provider, and you lose connection-performance.
Now in the E90 and E51 (AND PERHAPS IN THE UPCOMING PHONES) the possibility of building groups is not available.
    It’s a shame for a business Phone.
You don’t know, what “Access point groups” are?
Here the explanation of the E70’s manual:
    Email data roaming
    Access point groups.
Your device allows roaming between wireless access technologies, such as WLAN and GPRS, for e-mail. For example, you can
start an e-mail session at home and continue the session on your way to work. While your session continues uninterrupted,
your handheld device switches from WLAN to GPRS and back to WLAN when you arrive at your workplace.
In result: You have a quick and free connection at home (Wifi), you go outside, the phone switches automatically to e.g GPRS, you come in the office, the phone switches automatically to your company’s WIFI.. etc.
You pay only the short time outside, and you don’t have to worry about changing connections.
Let us motivate NOKIA to reintegrate this feature, so they become more professional and businesslike
    Thanks mayba

    Bring IT back !!!

  • E71: default access point

New E71 user here. Recently got Nokia's email app (Big @ icon in Installations) and it's nice. I have it set-up to use my router as an access point when in and around my home (router: airport) but when I go out of range of the router the access point switches to 'default'.
Is there anyway to tell it what default should be? I'd like it to be 't-mobile internet'.
I know this may be an old issue, but not sure if it has been resolved.
    Best regards,
    Craig

Sorry to ressurrect an old thread, but this has been driving me crazy and I have found the easiest solution and thought it belonged on the Nokia forums (especially seeing as it is the top hit in google search).
You can select your access point at any time by going to "web" (it should be in your menu for web browsing). Press Options->Settings->General->Access point. Here you can do 2 things:
    1) Choose between "User defined" and "always ask"
    2) By choosing user defined, you have the option to select any access point from your list to be the default
This will be for all apps that want to use your e71 to connect through access points. I have no idea why this option is nowhere to be found in the access point settings, but the option does exist

  • N97 OTA access point help

hi all, got a probem here that seems to been doin my head in over the last few days. basically i bought a brand new locked to tmobile N97, im a virgin customer.. now, i'm wanting to do a firmware upgrade.. due to having an old **bleep** laptop that only has 248mb of ram i cant d the upgrade via nokia pc suite so my only other option is OTA.. right, so, i dial *#0000# then go to options, then check for updates... up pops a message saying a need to define an access point, ok.. not understanding it much i try and manually add some stuff myself, to no avail... then i do some forum posting and manage to get these settings: Server Name Nokia Server ID Nokia Server password firmupservpass Access point [select your preferred AP] Host address https://dms.update.nokia.com/dms/omadm Port 443 User name nokiams DM password nokiamspass Allow configuration Yes Auto accept all requests Yes but... that hasnt solved my problem, when entered and i try to connect to do the upgrade i get a connection error. my only option is this forum, its a nokia fone and a nokia forum i cant get my head round it as i can use the internet n my fone brilliantly, surely the internet and the OTA access point are the same thing?

To add an access point select settings-connectivity-destinations-Access point , Automatically search for available access points ?, select yes and choose access point. Then go into Internet and set the priorities to WLAN number 1 T-Mobile number 2 etc
    Good Luck
PS Nokia Software Updater should still work on computer, even with low memory or weak internet , just a bit slower.

  • Setting the Maps Access Point

I just found something quite weird when using Maps on my N82.
If I set the default access point to a configured WLAN and I set 'Go Online at Startup' to no, or if the WLAN is not available, then when I go and select 'Tools/Go Online' it automatically changes the default access point to the mobile providers on air internet access point.
So since I have downloaded all the maps for my area I was planning to leave the internet access off mostly, but should I come to turn it on, it will completely ignore the WLAN default setting and go straight to the mobile network therefore costing me money, and not only, it will change the default to this and leave it like that for next time.
Is there anyway to prevent this behaviour?
And ideally in general, is there any way to congure a set of access points to try in order e.g. try my home WLAN first, my work WLAN second and then the mobile network third? As far as I am concerned once it has asked me if it can go online I don't want to have to select the access point each time, I would rather it attempts a WLAN if possible and then if not goes mobile all without asking me.
    Any thoughts appreciated.

I'm kinda in the same situtation, anyway I think it just follows the access points priority on the phone. I was able to use wi-fi in the offline mode (of the mobile)!

  • Script to fight buggy WiFi access points

This is a script that implements automatic reconnect to WiFi access points. It's called hold-connect. It uses netcfg as backend, so any other connection types are also supported (like PPP link). It had been tested every day for 2 months with a buggy public wifi router (its DHCP server quite often failed).
    Features:
    - Checking of internet connection via host pinging with 1 packet;
    - Reconnecting if link failure is detected;
    - Informative output;
    - Customizable hostname, check interval and retry count.
    Dependencies:
    - bash;
    - netcfg 2.5.4;
    - optional: configured sudo. To run from root, all "sudo" strings can be safely removed.
Syntax is simple:  hold-connect netcfg_profile_name . Also some parameters can be customized inside script (follow comments). Therefore it's advised to keep script file somewhere like /home/user and place a symlink to it in /usr/bin.
Usage: start and enjoy! To stop it, simply kill it with ^C or kill -15.
    hold-connect.sh:
    #!/bin/bash

  • N80 email access point wandering

    Hiya
I've set up email and wlan fine - and the standard Orange settings for GPRS are working with no problems.
My issue is when I start wandering around!
I set up the phone to check for email though my wifi connection on a regular basis. The idea is that I'm sitting around in the evening without a PC on and my phone will alert me of new email. This also works fine.
However when I leave my hotspot, I want the phone to think "err ok I can't get that connection, I won't keep checking email". I thought that "only in home net." would probably do this in "Automatic retrieval". This appears to work ok as the "Access point in use" for "Incoming email" is et to my wlan..
But, when I go out and about and manually try and check my email, the phone says "Can't find [wlan]" and gives up with no option to check the GPRS connection.
Err - any ideas? I don't think I'm trying to do anything out of the ordinary. I just wwant regular email checks when I'm within range of my lan, and this to stop (unless I manually override) when my only option is internet access that I have to pay for.
I don't see tinkering with the settings on 3 email accounts whenever I come in / go out to be an option.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
