Automatic filter effect is causing me grief.

Ive used AF many times before, and ive never had this problem up until now.
What it is doing is causing the track it is affecting to fade out half way through the song, then it "pops" back in.
if i stop the song as it starts to fade out, and play again, the effect wont be happening, however later in the song, it will fade out again.
Im using AF to make stutters during a certain part of the track.
The rest of the track is unaffected (minus that mysterious fade out), and plays normally.
anyways, im sorry if that doesnt quite make sense, if you can help of if you need anything clarified please help.

i'd rather not remove the filter, ive got...i dunno what to call it. Theres a drop down bar below where you put the notes, you can control the track volume and pan through it, or whatever else you want, and i got the speed settings fine tuned D=
aaanyways... yeah, ill give that a shot, hopefully my previous info stays.

Looks like duplicating the track and turning the filter off, sliding the bar down a point then back up, and turning the filter back on worked....

Automatic Filter isn't working correctly

My automatic filter effect is extremely tempermental. If I set the filter to an up-sweep for 8 measures, it'll only do two sets of 4 measure sweeps in the playback (just an example, it has happens often). Also, it's effected by things that shouldn't effect it; for example if I change the volume than sometimes the number of measures in the sweep will change when i play it back, even though the actual setting hasn't.
Is there a way I can tell the automatic filter to start the sweep at a certain measure in a song?
Also, could this just be a local glitch on my version or on all versions.
If anyone can help or has a similar problem, please let me know. For reference, I'm filtering garageband software instrument loops that i've made, and am using multiple filters on different tracks throughout the project. I'm running Garageband '11 Version 6.0.4

This is the Photoshop full version forum, but I'll hazard a couple of wild, uneducated guesses (I don't use Elements)... Is your image in Grayscale mode and not RGB? Also, what do you have your foreground and background colors set to?

The automatic filter starts/ends earlier than it should.

I am working on a song using GarageBand'11 which i am quite familiar with and the signature of the song is 4/4. I have made quite a few songs before and have never had this problem... so i don't have a clue why this has happened. The track is using faded in and out white noise and then i have added an automatic filter to is as a kind of build up effect. The automatic filter is set to 4 bars and there are two tracks one that the filter is set to up (where is builds up) and one where it is set to down (where it breaks down). The problem is that when it gets to about 3.3 bars the filter stops too early when it should be an extra 0.1 bar long? So when i start the song 0.1 bar foward it works fine so the automatic filter starts too early. it's nothing to do with the signature because that is set at 4/4 which should mean it works. I have tried making a new track, re-adding the automatic filter and countless other adjustments and it's just not getting anywhere...
soo if anyone has any ideas of whats gone wrong here and how i can sort it out, i will be very greatful

It sounds like a crossfade problem. Check (when you have your ipod connected to the computer) the ipod settings under your preferences in iTunes.

Creating a gif that is a progression of filter effects

I want to take a single image and create a gif from it that is a sequence of frames with a particular Photoshop filter effect going from a maximum to zero effect. Lets take for example a Gaussian filter. The initial frame would have a heavy Gaussian filter applied and the last frame would have no filter applied. I want the effect to take maybe a second or two with 10 to 20 frames per second.
I don't imagine this will be trivial or easy... that's not my question. My question is if anyone has suggestions on how to optimize the work flow in creating this effect.
I'm a programmer and I've done photoshop javascript programs in the distant distant past if that might help but I'm not sure if this project requires that level of effort.

Yes. This is much easier than I expected. The wonders of progress.
There are two ways to do it. Your method is more general purpose and more accurately accomplishes my original objective. Another method is to make one duplicate layer and apply the filter to it. Then create a video timeline and change the opacity of that layer from 100% at the beginning of the time period to 0% at the end of the time period (two "key frames" ?). Then export the gif.

Where are the filter/effect presets saved on a Mac?

I've searched a bit but can't seem to find anything but tutorials on saving your own presets.
On my old Mac I had a few presets which I liked, and so I want to copy them to my new Mac. I have a Time Machine backup and I managed to find my export presets, but need a bit of help on the filter/effect presets.

Good to know, but unfortunately my old computer broke so I can't export the presets, I only have the Time Machine back up.
Surely they get saved somewhere in the program files?

House/Trance "filter effect"

I'm trying to recreate what I'm sure is a pretty standard production/Logic "trick", I just don't know how... What I'm talking about is the (clichéd) filter effect that can be heard for instance in this track around the 2:00 mark (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9Xtvj_JVSM).
So far I've only come up with putting an insert, let's say Spectral Gate, on the Out 1-2 track, and then Automating a Bypass on/off type situation. But I'm sure there's a better way, and besides, that one's not very subtle (nor accurate or smooth) at all.

Hmm... I'm not quite getting the results I'm looking for, the way Bill suggested... I did add new Channel Strips, put its input to a Bus. But how do I get it to apply to all tracks, like in "French filter House", not just one or two single tracks? Add an individual Bus Send to each track? Is there a smarter way to do that, I've got dozens and dozens of tracks.
Anyway, I think I got the result I want by adding a High Pass Filter to the master output track Out1-2, then automating it.
That tutorial Immo suggested looks useful too, thank you.
Actually that track I posted wasn't even a good example of what I was looking for, lol. Couldn't find another one.

Filter effects in Flash 5

Hi all,
How can Filter effects be given in Flash 5?

If it is a shape that you know you can create a shadow in a graphics program like Photoshop, save it as a png, and then import it to Flash.
If you are doing something like a dialog box with round corners and straight edges you can chop up the png for straight parts and the rounded corners and then using rotation and scaling only use two little bits for the shadow.
There are many, many tricky ways that people have learned to fake it over the years. Only limited by your creativity and your artistic skills.

Pdf files become pixelated when filter effects are applied...

I have some pdf files in my Motion 4 project. When I uncheck the "fixed resolution" box, they pdf files look great. But when I proceed to add any filter effect like any of the Glow filters, the pdf file becomes all pixelated and looks horrible. What am I doing wrong?

Filters fix the resolution, rasterizing the vector graphics. Try make it very large, the apply the filter to the containing layer and shrink the layer to be the desired size...

Why am I getting a red and blue haze over my oil paint filter effect in photoshop cs6? I am currently using a trial version.

The last time someone reported this problem with Oil paint, the fix was to go Preferences (Ctrl k) > Performance and set the cache levels to something other than '1'. If you cache levels were not previously set to 1 then we'll need to think again.

Radial Filter effect not exported to Photoshop, why?

Suddenly while working on may images in LR5, doing all the usual with Development module I've realised that Radial filter effect is not being exported to CS5; all others ark: healing, spotting, grad filter, and brushes are ok. is it me or there is something wrong with the system?

How to retain filter effects from photoshop

Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to retain filter effects in
an image in photoshop and import into flash.
(ie.Overlay, lighten, screen, etc.)
Is this possible and if so will it slow down the speed of the
swf. file by a massive amount?

any image using only Flash 8

You can save the file out of photoshop as a png, gif, or jpg
file. The filter effect will be "flattened" into the final image

Fft and automatic filter

Hi.
I have a couple of data from a measure and want to do an automatic filter.
The way how I want to proceed is the following one:
I want to make an FFT on the data, and then make a frequency detector.
The unwanted frequency are 50Hz and 100Hz.
IF (and only if) the 50Hz and/or 100Hz are detected on the FFT (automatic detector), then, I will filter the data with 2 band-cut filter (one with 50Hz central frequency, and one with 100Hz), then re-made an other FFT to make sure the frequency I have removed from the datas are there any more.
How can I do that?
Is the way I want to to it succesfull? If not, why?

Please correct me if I'm wrong : You change the value of the data scaned if the signal data is over the threshold.
Question : what is the command that fix the value of the threshold?
Other question : my array is a 2D array. how can I do the same thing with it? (with a for loop, and indexation I suppose)
The last question is : I have puted a reverse FFT to see the signal filtred, on the graph, the first values seems to be higher than the initial array. why? is it a mathematical error? (no problem with it, I just cut those first values out, but I want to understand why...)
If I understand well, I jsut have to put the same thing in serial to have two frequency filters.
Other question : Why you dont use a filter bloc made in labview?
The way i was thinking the vi is as follow :
I test the signal with a FFT, do the over threshold detection. If one (or two) peak(s) over the threshlod is detected, the you filter the signal with a simple filter.
What do you think about this method? Is it a good way to construct my application? If not : why?
Please find an example of the way I was thinking the vi (doesn't work correctly, but the idea is there)...

Filter Effect and Layer Style in the same layer vs separate layers

I'm adjusting a photographic image and am using both a filter effect and a layer style in the same layer on a Smart Object. I want to separate the two effects into two layers, so one layer has the filter effect (Nik) and one layer has the layer style (Color Overlay) (with the goal of merging/rasterizing the Nik filter effect with the Smart Object but keeping the layer style unmerged). I can make two layers and move one effect without problem, but the visual result of each effect on a separate layer is quite different from having both effects in the same layer. The Blend Mode for all my layers is Normal. Within the Color Overlay panel, the blend mode is Linear Burn.
I don't understand why the visual result is different. I'm not an advanced user of Photoshop, so maybe I'm missing something. This is a trial of CS6 that I'm using.

If you want two separate layers, then on the duplicate layer with the Color Overlay layer style you might try different layer blending modes.
For example, below looks the same having the Color Overlay with linear burn on the second layer and changing the layers blend mode to Hue.
You could also put the layer in a group and apply the layer style to the group.

What are "filter effects"?

I have an assignment for school and I was told NOT to use filter effects. I've never used Illustrator CS5.1 before so I have no idea what filter effects are. First are any of the tools on the left side filter effects? I used the blur tool under the effects menu under Photoshop Effects is that a "filter effects". Please don't be rude I have no idea what I'm doing.

"Filter effects" ... hhmmmmm. I would consider all those entries listed in the menu "Effects" as "filter effects" although there are some in it that don't fall into the category of the typical eye-candy stuff. Restriting especially their use is not too clever. As graphic styles can include effects, you should be carefull with them as well.
Maybe your teacher considers the use of the liquify tools as effects as well. Or the envelope function. Maybe you should ask your teacher, which tool you are allowed to use.

Blue filter effect on non-apple displays

Hey,
i am still waiting for my new mac pro and researching to buy a minimum of 24" display for it. I used Imacs before so I am used to Apple's original colors and tones. However my wife's powerbook is hooked up to a 23" gateway HD 2275w monitor and the colors really suck on that monitor. It is nowhere near the powerbooks' tones. Color calibration of apple's system preferences also don't seen to be able to ix it. Anybody out there has experience w non-apple displays? Is there a way to overcome that "blue filter effect" on a non-apple display?

Color on LCDs can be affected by the backlighting. Flouresent backlights run a a significant gamut of color from warm red to cool blue.
