Automatic Front Row Playlist in iTunes?

Hi, I just got my MBP last week, and i was wondering:is there any way to disable the automatic creation of a Front Row Playlist in iTunes anytime i play music thorugh it?

No you can't configure that. It should however get removed by Front Row when it exits to the desktop.

  • Front Row Playlist in iTunes

Sometimes a Front Row playlist appears in iTunes after using Front Row to play music. Why does this happen? Is it a feature? Can I make it stop?
    Does anybody else experience this?
    Thanks,
    Bob

yes i get it too. i think its a special playlist that is easyer to access for front row. not to my knowledge that you cannot stop it. i just delete the playlist after im done with front row and when i go into itunes.

  • Front Row playlist's totally different than itunes.

My music is arranged different than in my itunes library. Is there a setting in itunes or front row so that my itunes playlists transfer to itunes? Thanks.

how do your songs appear in front row?? alphabatically??

  • Front Row Issue When iTunes is Running

On my Mac Mini (which is our media centre), I've noticed some strange behaviour. Namely, if I leave iTunes running and then start Front Row, after a while (up to 24 hours sometimes), Front Row can no longer see the iTunes library. With iTunes shutdown this doesn't happen.....

I have confirmed that this issue only exists with a library on a network share. Local libraries seem to work fine. I have submitted a bug report to Apple.
To anyone from Apple who may be reading: this is a huge degradation in capability for those of us who use our Macs as media servers and need the ability to simultaneously use front row locally and share the music library with other computers. I am looking forward to a fix.

  • Front Row No updating Itunes

I have a strange problem in Front Row and ITunes. When I watch a new video in from my library in Front Row the little blue ball showing a new items goes away but when I open ITunes it’s still there. If I go back in to Front Row it’s gone.
I have had a look around and I can’t find anything about this. Can anyone help?
ITunes 8.1 and Front Row 2.1.7

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "rebuilt the iTunes library"? I have the same problem with Front Row and iTunes not being in sync when tracking which shows I've watched, and it's really annoying. They only seem to stay in sync if iTunes is already running when I launch Front Row, which is often not that case.
    Thanks!

  • Front Row doesn't, iTunes does play an album

Many times I've experienced the following: I bought an album in the iTunes store and backed it up at the Mini I use as a jukebox.
When I want to listen to it through Front Row the message appears that this computer is not certified to play the music, but when I go to iTunes I can listen to it with no problems.
I've certified the Mini several times now during the last 18 months, to play the music I buy on my iMac, but this keeps happening.
    Anybody any idea?
    Thanks!!!

Not sure if this has been resolved yet but I'll give a guess as to the solution.
It sounds like the mini is certified but perhaps the iMac is not. If you've setup your iMac's iTunes to use the Mini to store and play all your music, then the iMac does not have the certification required to allow its Front Row to play music. iTunes, however, will play "remote" songs; Front Row won't. That's my dilemma.
Here's a test. Check your iTunes preference on the iMac to see if the Music Folder location is indeed the Mini (under Advanced>General tab). Either way, click on the Reset button. This will change your Music Folder to the default folder within your iMac's Music folder (under Home). Then drag one of the purchased songs from your Mini's iTunes Music folder onto iTunes. This will make it import into your iMac's new music folder. Now attempt to play that imported song in iTunes. If you're lucky, iTunes will say that your iMac is not certified and needs to be activated. Do so and then switch your Music Folder back to the original Mini setting you had. This should put everything back to the way your have except now your iMac will be authorized to play purchased songs directly, or through your Mini. If you're really lucky, Front Row will now show all your songs to play.
I have no idea if this will succeed but it is what I would attempt to do. Good luck!

  • Front Row not recognizing iTunes library

I have thousands of songs in my iTunes library, all stored in the default location. When I try to use Front row it says it cannot find any songs and that I need to import some or buy some from the iTunes store. Anybody?

I'm using a mini to control our entertainment center, 40,000+ songs and 300+ movies in iTunes but front row doesn't see any! iTunes works fine but you have to squint to read content. Front row definitely looks/reads better on a HD projector. Everythings up to date, all files are on the local drive (1tb mini stack hard wired to the internal sata)other than this issue the machine is great. I've also tried the old alias workaround to no avail.

  • Front Row not finding iTunes?

I recently moved all my music to an external hard drive, and since then, I haven't been able to use Front Row. The application starts up perfectly, but when I go to find any music to play, it says there is no music to be found. The message that pops up is "Front Row can't find any songs. Use iTunes to import songs or purchase songs from the iTunes store."
Anyone have any ideas on how to help? Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue. I think it is b/c the library is also on my external drive - I think Front Row looks for it in the Music folder. My pictures are in the Pictures folder and Front Row seems to be picking it all right.
Anybody knows how to direct Front Row to search for the library on the external drive?

  • Front Row Incorrectly Reads iTunes Metadata under Snow Leopard?

There is a serious problem with Front Row under Snow Leopard. The program is unable to correctly read the TV metadata from iTunes and does not correctly filter/organize the data. TV episode/season/title data is not read resulting in a completely disorganized library. All files are viewd as "movies" whether they have been tagged as TV shows or not. I had a sizable libray of videos that was perfectly organized under Tiger. Under Snow Leopard my entire database has been blown up- most TV shows appear as "Untitled". I'm sure they are MacMini users who have integrated their computers into their media playback systema s I have and am hoping Apple will provide a fix for this issue which totally undercuts one of the main reasons for integrating the Mini into one's home theatre system. Does any have a fix or simple work around. Come on Apple-- don't turn into Microsoft on me!

I recently purchased a used iMac (from 2006), that the previous owner had upgraded to Snow Leopard. I already have a MacBook Pro. To explain, I purchased the iMac to set it up as a media center computer, connected to my external hard drive and synced with AppleTV. I used Migration Assistant to move my files onto the iMac, but Front Row is now showing all the errors you described.
    1. It is VERY slow to open. Clicking Menu on the remote, and you wait 15 seconds or more for Front Row to open.
    2. Even though iTunes is directed to my external hard drive, Front Row shows Source as my Macbook Pro.
    3. TV shows are out of order. On my Macbook Pro (10.5.8) all shows are listed from first to last, from top to bottom. On the iMac (10.6.4) they are listed last to first, top to bottom.
    4. Some TV shows that are clearly in iTunes (purchased from iTunes) do not appear in Front Row at all.
    5. The unwatched content blue dot remains even after watching something all the way through to the end. After watching them in Front Row, iTunes does not show them as watched either, but instead has the half blue dot, as if they were unfinished.
    6. iTunes is also badly affected: I now have a large number of TV shows in the Movies section, and attempts to reorganize them in the folders on the external where they are store fails. It's a complete mess, and it seems like its deliberate that we cannot reorganize it ourselves.
So what used to be a very lovely program has become a horribly messy, PC like, application. Which made the whole point of setting up a special computer just for media a total waste of time and money with Snow Leopard installed.
If a fix is not forthcoming, I'm probably going to uninstall Snow Leopard, and reinstall Leopard. Everything worked fine there for me.

  • Front Row Hangs if Itunes isn't Open?

Whenever I try to use Front Row without itunes open it hangs when I go to select an artist. I have to press command, option, ctrl, esc to get out of it. It also does it when trying to view movies. Is this a common problem? What can I do to fix it? Thanks for your help!!!

Interesting... This happens to me too IF I have remote speakers, which are streamed through an Airport, selected. If I open iTunes first, no problem, but if not, then it hangs up. The only solution I've found to open iTunes before activating front row.

  • ITunes Playlists scrambled in Front Row

I use a MacMini for an audio server. The playlists I have set up in iTunes (and which work fine in iTunes) bear no resemblance to the original when I attempt to use them in Front Row. For instance, a smart playlist to select items with 4 star ratings or higher picks up items with no ratings at all when used in Front Row. Tried deleting Front Row plist, but no change. Thought this might have to do with outdated software as I'm using Front Row 1.1. When I attempted to update to 1.3.1, the installer refuses to install it on any of my 3 macs (all of which are running snow leopard & current versions of iPhoto & iTunes)... whats up with that?

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried this one (2.1.7) as well with the same result: "Front Row can't be installed on this disk. This software update is not required". I believe the reason is that 2.1.7 is not 64-bit (for Intel Macs) while 1.1 is. Based on the create dates for the packages, I think 2.17 is an update to 1.31 (though I can't get a copy of 1.31 to examine), and 1.31 is not an update to the 1.1 (64bit) version which has the newest create date. If true, it looks like Apple needs to update the software. But in the interim, I can't use any of the smart playlists created in iTunes in Front Row. Playlists which were created using specific songs rather than groups defined by rules work just fine, with the Front Row playlist matching the one created in iTunes.
    Any other possible fixes?

  • Networked iTunes music wont play in Front Row......initially (repeatedly!)

    Hi
On my 4th day in Mac world, My (very nearly) fab Mac mini will play content from my networked HDD fine, but when I wake the Mac up from sleep, nothing will play in Front Row
When I double click the song in iTunes, it plays. I can then play all music in Front Row.
In iTunes, some music appears with an "!" next to it, but when I double click it - the song plays immediately, but will skip the next "!" marked song unless I double click it
What I've done since installing OS x:-
    1. Set music location in iTunes to \\HDD\Music
    2. Rescanned library
    3. Added alias to \\HDD\video and \\HDD\photos in appropriate folders and scanned with iMovie and iPhoto - all media will now play in FR
    4. exported itunes playlists from my Windows PC and imported to Mac
    5. Clicked through ALL songs on main iPod sync playlist to remove "!"
    6. Successfully sync'd iPod with everything (except Apps - scared of this at the mo!)
Any suggestions would be appreciated....thinking it may have something to do with importing the playlist or the external HDD doesn't mount unless I go via iTunes
However I've spent 10 years in Windows and am a bit lost

...but when I wake the Mac up from sleep, nothing will play in Front Row...
Sleep disconnects all network connections. I would guess your Mac mini (and therefore Front Row) has lost contact with your networked hard drive. Once it re-establishes a connection, you've got your songs back. Perhaps you should set the screen but not the computer to sleep? You can adjust that with the Energy Saver System Preferences. I never turned my Mac mini off (except for software updates) or let it sleep for more than two years without any issues.

  • Front Row not updating playlist

I posted this exact problem back in June, and it was never resolved, yet somehow it was tagged as answered and then archived. Notwithstanding, I still hav the problem.
I moved my iTunes music library to an external HD by consolidating to the external HD, and since doing so, my Front Row playlist is still visible, but nothing is updating.
Additionally, my movies folder (in iTunes) is not updating in Front Row. It still shows deleted movies and does not show new additions. However, If I try and play a movie which is existing, it plays ok.
My iTunes Library Data files remain on my iMac HD as does my .xml file (as instructed).
The problem is obviously that the list from which Front row is taking its information is not updating, but where is that list, and how do I get it to update ? I had no problems prior to migrating my iTunes directory to an external drive, so the problem is related.
Any help with this would be appreciated, as effectively I am currently no longer able to use Front Row to play my Music or Movies directly on my iMac. I have Front Row 1.x installed.
    Thanks in anticipation.

Good new people, I found the answer to my problem after I posted here. I found it either here or Macosx.com or Macosxhints.com (sorry I can't give proper credit, I opened dozens of tabs and I lost count).
Anyway, this method works for me and hopefully it'll work for others as well. In iTunes, create a Smart Playlist with the name of the phantom file as the criterion. If it's hiding anywhere in your iTunes, it'll show up. Option-delete it and it won't show up in Front Row anymore.

  • Itunes won't start, iPhoto / Front Row Hang after Leopard install

I upgraded a Intel 2.0MHz 24" iMac this morning. I have never had any upgrade problems before. Last night the iLife 8.1.1 update was installed. Was using iTunes all morning. I got my Leopard CD via Fedex and popped it in. Install went smoothly with no issues. The only thing out of the ordinary during the installation was that I hit cancel when the Time Machine setup opened because I don't have a hard disc ready for it yet.
All seems to be OK except for iTunes, iPhoto, and Front Row.
    1. iTunes hangs every time I try to start it and I have to Force Quit. Library is on an external drive that is available and working in Finder.
    2. iPhoto will open and show my library, but hangs anytime I chose Edit. Library is on main drive, but I have preferences set not to have iPhoto copy items to the library. I tried rebuilding library but that hangs too.
    3. Front Row hangs when I choose music or movies. I can't exit it and have to do a hard shutdown.
This is my first disappointment since switching about six months ago. Any insight on how to fix this would be appreciated. I am fully backed up prior to install, but it was not a bootable backup.

I seem to have located the problem. I disabled my Perian install and iTunes, iPhoto, and Front Row started working. I also reinstalled the MPEG2 support for Quicktime, but I believe Perian is what fixed the issue.

  • ITunes & Front Row

I recently did a fresh install of leopard and followed the process of copying/ backing up my whole iTunes folder and then replacing the iTunes folder within ~/music after the fresh install. iTunes opened up as I had left it before. Sweet!
I opened Front Row yesterday to watch a TV episode that I had downloaded and it cannot find anything in my iTunes library! Music nor movies. I'm newish to Mac. Has the replacing of my iTunes folder caused problems? Do I need to direct Front Row to my iTunes Folder (although its in the place that it should be)? Do i need to do anything with plists?
    Hope you can help.
I hope I have done right by posting this here. I did check out the front row board and i didn't know if it was an itunes problem rather than front row.

found out solution myself. updated front row
