Automatic group switching and notification in Resource Manager

We are creating resource plans that don't kill out-of-control processes, but automatically move them to a low-priority group for investigation. Is there a means by which a session which gets automatically switched can notify something else, like via a trigger, an email, or even just in an alert log message?
Thanks in advance,
Paul Hebert/SUNY ITEC

Although this is an older message, I have been looking for the same type of behavior. In order to manage ad hoc queries, there is desire to monitor the behavior in order to fine tune the resource management. This is based on the really “bad” queries being stopped (KILLED).
Of course this needs to be balanced with not preventing work from being done.
Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.

  • CiscoWorks user options "device type groups|switch and Hubs"

    Hi,
We are using CiscoWorks software to deploy new configuration to our network devices.  Because our environnement is mixed about version of network devices we have to create a new netconfig job for each device model, because in some plate-forme configuration option, syntax maybe different of each other.
When I create a new netconfig job with my username under "device type groups|switch and Hubs" I have a list there of all plate-forme we have in our production environnement managed by CiscoWorks software.  I know thoses group was'nt define by on of us and thoses are define by default in CiscoWorks software, but they are hiden by default per user basic.
We have a new one in our team, I had created his user name and password, but I can find the option where I can asked to make visible to him plate-form device type group as I have in my user configuration.
Also, is it possible to copy private define group to an other user without to make thoses as public ?
    Thanks a lot !

    Here,
is a view of what I have with my user
but in his profile he is only see
    Device type Groups
         + Routers
         + Switches and Hubs
         + Wireless
if he clic on the plus sing to develop group "Switches and Hubs" he see all switches and hub managed by CiscoWorks software.  I know He did not create Cisco Catalyst 2912 XL Switch and Cisco Catalyst 2924 XL Switch group in my profile.  I know we have to modify an option in CiscoWorks per user basic to view those group, the person who where that option should be modifiy is currently in vacation, but he will need that option enable before our specialist will be back !
    Thanks a lot !

  • BB Z10 BBM Group updates and notifications not showing up in Hub?

BBM Group updates and notifications not showing up in Hub? The notifications are turned ON in Group settings. And all BBM notifications are enable in the Hub, still nothing shows up. Picture comments, addition, status updates simply dont show up. My device is on 10.0.10.58.
    Any workaround?

vijaymalhan, in your Hub settings > Hub Management, do you have BBM set to ON?

I need to inventory software on my corporate Macs.  What software can I use?  If it includes Antivirus, and other corporate resource management tools, that woudl be a plus.
I have 50-60 Mac OSX devices on my corporate network.  I woudl like to install an "agent" on them that would allow me to report on how many have X copies of this or that software.
I also need a corporate Antivirus solution.
For PC, we have used things like MAAS360, Kaseya, Dell eSmart, etc....
What is a comparable Apple product for small business?

  • Automatic Graphics Switching and 10.7.2

Has anyone else experienced problems with Automatic Graphics Switching on 10.7.2?  After I updated to 10.7.2, I would get either a black or green screen after the chime and and grey screens, so that I would not even see the log in screen.  I reset the PRAM and SMU, reinstalled the combo update, made sure all of the other updates including the Thunderbolt Software and Video Updates were applied, and still I was getting the same problem.  I was able to boot into both Safe Mode and Repair Mode successfully, but there still were no indications of what was causing this problem.
Finally, I plugged in an external monitor, and I could get the screen to come back both on the LCD as well as the external monitor.  That led me to suspect the Intel HD Graphics 3000 Built-in card.  Once I made sure that Automatic Graphics Switching was unchecked under Energy Saver, the problem went away.  However, the computer is only using the AMD Radeon HD 6750M card, which probably uses up more battery life than the built-in Intel card.
I conducted an Apple Hardware Test, and everything passed.  I also get the chime at bootup.  I suspect that three System Extensions - AppleIntelHD3000Graphics, AppleIntelHDGraphics, and AppleIntelHDGraphicsFB - all have problems and that this is a software issue.  When I removed them from the System Extensions folder and then put them back in, I got an error message that they had been improperly installed.  Furthermore, when I removed these extensions, the problem went away, even with the Automatic Graphics Switching option enabled, but when I installed the 10.7.2 combo update, the extensions and the problems came back.
Can anyone else verify that Automatic Graphics Switching under 10.7.2 works for them?  I suppose this still could be a hardware problem, but I strongly suspect there is a software problem with the drivers.  I have a 15-inch early 2011 MacBook Pro, 4 GB, running 10.7.2 and all updates applied.

In a nutshell, the discreet Nvidia chip supports hardware acceleration in flash, the integrated chip does not.
For reasons i'm not quite sure of, either Flash, and Automatic Graphics Switching do not really work well together. My guess is that Flash reads the information from the Nvidia Chip (ie that it supports hardware acceleration) and allows the feature to be enabled, but then the apple software does not switch to the Hardware Accelerated chip, because, i guess, it believes that the Intel chip should be sufficient for the job.
In my experience, forcing the MBP to use the Nvidia chip, and leaving hardware acceleration on provides slightly better battery life when playing supported videos, but, of course unless you remember to re-enable Automatic Graphic Switching again when you're done, it'll kill your battery life later, so I find it safer, unless I am watching a, say, 3 hour long flash video to disable H.A. In flash, and hope that, between them, Apple and Adobe can work this one out... though given their public disagreements over Flash, this could be wishful thinking.
With HA disabled, you are in no worse a position than you were a few months ago before "Gala" came around, so it's not so bad.

  • MacBook Pro  Retina (Mid-2012) Yosemite: Crashing VERY Frequently.  Often While Loading Webpages.  I believe is a Graphics-Card Switching issue.  Have tried trouble shooting: "Disable Automatic Graphics Switching" and  "Reduced Transparency" no luck

I believe I am experiencing the problems discussed in this article: http://www.macnn.com/articles/14/11/04/several.support.threads.discussing.issue. related.to.gpu.switching/
However I am not sure.  I am not that tech savvy... Anyway my computer is becoming unusable.  Its truly driving me crazy.  Its worth noting that I would have this problem OCCASIONALLY while running Mavericks, since the update it has become far me frequent: Computer Restarts shows message "you computer has restarted because of a problem" or sometimes my screen just goes black, the sound still plays.  Pasted below is the error report.  Can anyone tell me, do I have the common problem as discussed in the article or something else?  I have had this machine for about 18 months, already had to replace the SSD, now this.  It looks like I maybe on my way to having a $3k paperweight.   Please help!

Remove "Air Display" and see whether there's any change. If not, the logic board is faulty and must be replaced.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

  • Resource Management and Solaris Zones Developer Guide

Solaris Information Products ("Pubs") is creating a
developer guide for resource management and Solaris Zones.
The department is seeking input on content from application
    developers and ISVs.
We plan to discuss the different categories of applications
that can take advantage of Solaris resource management
features, and provide implementation examples that discuss
the particular RM features that can be used.
Although running in a zone poses no differences to most
applications, we will describe any possible limitations and
offer appropriate workarounds. We will also provide
information needed by the ISV, such as determining
the appropriate system calls to use in a non-global zone.
We plan to use case studies to document the zones material.
We would like to know the sorts of topics that you would
like to see covered. We want to be sure that we address
your specific development concerns with regard to these
    features.
Thank you for your comments and suggestions.

Hi there, i'm using solaris resource management in a
server with more thant 2thousand acounts.
Created profiles for users, defaul, staff, root and
services.Seeing the contents of your /etc/project file could be helpful.
But while using rctladm to enable syslog'ing, I set up
global flags of "deny" and "no-local-action" in almos
everything. The flags on the right hand side of the rctladm(1M) output are read-only:
they are telling you the characteristics of the resource control in question (what
operations the system will allow the resource control to take).
Now, many aplications don't work because they are
    denied enough process.max-stack-size and
    process.max-file-descriptor for them to work.
Applications such has prstat. If prstat(1) is failing due to the process.max-file-descriptor control value, that's
probably a bug. prstat(1) is more likely bumping into the limit to assess how many file
descriptors are available, and then carrying on--you're just seeing a log message since
prstat(1) tested the file descriptor limit, and you've enabled syslog for that control. Please
post the prstat(1) output, and we'll figure out if something's breaking.
    I don't find a way to disable the global flags. You can't. I would disable the syslog action on the process.max-stack-size control first;
there is an outstanding bug on this control, in that it will report a false triggering event--
no actual effect to the process. (If you send me some mail, I will add you as a call record
    on the bug.)
    Can anyone tell me:
    how to disable global flags?
how to disable and enable solaris resource management
all together? You could raise all of the control values, but the resource control facility (like the resource
limit facility it superseded) is always active. Let's figure out if you're hitting the bug I mentioned,
and then figure out how to proceed.

  • XRPM Resource Management issue

    Gurus,
In xRPM under Resource Management Tab. I am not able to find any resources under resource view.TAble is empty.
Although I have created Resource pool and assinged a resources to administrator.
Please let me know if i am missing any settings
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Riya,
Here are the steps to assign the Resource Manager to a Resource Pool:
    1) Create a Resource Pool
    2) Add resources based on the selection criteria.
    3) Add a Resource (BP in employee Role) as Resource Manager to this Resource Pool.
NOTE: this resource manager should be attached to your User.
to see which User this Resource Manager is attached to, go to Portfolio Management -> Administration -> Resources
find the resource with its Name or Resource ID (BP) and Display. you will see the linked user. If it is not linked to any user you can assign the user to this resource manager.
    4) when you login with this Resource Manager's User, and navigate to Resource Management -> Resources, you will see all the resources under the Resource Pool where this current user is Resource Manager.
    Hope this will help.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Piyusha

Please Help. I received 4 emails from 1 person with the same message heading. The emails were automatically grouped Apple Mail. I replied to the latest mail in the conversation. Once sent the other messages in the conversation disappeared. I NEED THEM BACK! They all had very important attachments. I have tried looking for them in deleted items, even though I didn't throw any of them away, still cant find them. Never had this problem before. I'm pretty sure its a setting somewhere. Also tried expanding all conversations, no luck. Searching for the mails under the sent email address, no luck.
I'm sure they are not deleted but have somehow been hidden by Mail. Very frustrating.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Kash.

I have found found out what has happened. I had requested a statement dating back to April 2012 from a supplier. They replied back with the latest statementof 2013 only but used the same subject heading as the previous monthly statements. Apple Mail automatically grouped these and I thought that they were sent altogether. As soon as I replied to the last email all other the previous emails ungrouped from the conversation leaving me lost as to where they had gone. They were all still sitting in my inbox but no longer part of the trcked conversation. I searched under the subject heading and all individual mails were all still there. (feeling stupid - )

  • Database resource manager and RAC

    Hello,
This is probably is very simple question, but...
I have a system with mixed workloads (OLTP and BATCH). As many before, I want to prevent BATCH processes from impacting OLTP. I read about RAC and DRM, and how each could be used to assign resources to services.
Do I need RAC to be able to use DRM? Or can I do DRM without RAC? Are they the same thing?
Thanks in advance for your help.

DRM provides control over resource management decisions on both oracle standard and clustered databases.
pecifically, using the Database Resource Manager, you can:
    * Guarantee certain users a minimum amount of processing resources regardless of the load on the system and the number of users
    * Distribute available processing resources by allocating percentages of CPU time to different users and applications. In a data warehouse, a higher percentage may be given to ROLAP (relational on-line analytical processing) applications than to batch jobs.
    * Limit the degree of parallelism of any operation performed by members of a group of users
    * Create an active session pool. This pool consists of a specified maximum number of user sessions allowed to be concurrently active within a group of users. Additional sessions beyond the maximum are queued for execution, but you can specify a timeout period, after which queued jobs will terminate.
    * Allow automatic switching of users from one group to another group based on administrator defined criteria. If a member of a particular group of users creates a session that executes for longer than a specified amount of time, that session can be automatically switched to another group of users with different resource requirements.
    * Prevent the execution of operations that the optimizer estimates will run for a longer time than a specified limit
    * Create an undo pool. This pool consists of the amount of undo space that can be consumed in by a group of users.
    * Limit the amount of time that a session can be idle. This can be further defined to mean only sessions that are blocking other sessions.
    * Configure an instance to use a particular method of allocating resources. You can dynamically change the method, for example, from a daytime setup to a nighttime setup, without having to shut down and restart the instance.
    * Allow the cancellation of long-running SQL statements and the termination of long-running sessions.

  • Command Line and Resource Manager

When using the command line to compile a Robohelp project, is there a way to update the shared resources within the project before generation?
For example, say you have Project1 and it is using snippet1 in that project. However, snippet1 has been modified in the resource manager (just say, for argument's sake, that snippet1 is also used in Project2, and you modified the snippet there and synced it to the resource manager). When you do a regular command line compile, the snippet is not updated.
Is there a way to sync the snippets and images from the resource manager in the project before doing the command line compile (other than opening the project and syncing manually)? After all, if I have to open the project, there's no reason to command line compile since I'm already there and can just compile it from the project.
    Thanks!

I don't think that is possible as, correct me if I am wrong, even within RoboHelp the images don't get updated automatically. It's something you have to do.
It's a good point though so I suggest submitting a feature request.
The more people who request a feature, the more likely it is to be actioned. Please follow this link.

  • [SOLVED] A File Manager That Can Group Folders and Files like Fences

I want to create a custom desktop environment in Arch Linux and I'm looking for a file manager that is similar to Windows Explorer in terms of features and functionality and can group files and folders into fences like Stardock Fences does for the desktop in Windows.
If such a feature isn't available then I, at least, want to group both files and folders into individual groups based on custom parameters and not just Date or Size.
Is there any File Manager in Linux that can fulfill my requirements? If not, is there any file manager which can be extended (by scripting or programming) easily to include the features that I'm looking for?

ANOKNUSA wrote:The important thing to keep in mind here is that Windows Explorer is the foundation for the entire Windows interface. If you've ever seen the exploere.exe process die for any reason, you know what I mean. That's the reason it's able to utilize functionality like Fences. In order to get the same kind of functionality in Linux, you'd need a very similar setup. KDE + Konqueror are what come closest from my experience, since the Plasma interface actually has widgets built in that do what you want, but if you use KDE then you use KDE. Full stop. KDE is highly customizable, but only if you use its environment and parts.
Nah. I don't wanna use KDE. I've heard that it's the most resource hungry DE out there.
OK, maybe not something like fences in a file manager but I, at least, want to be able to group files AND folders (within a folder or a directory) under a single parameter and that parameter can be custom and not just pre defined like Date and Size.
Huh. I'm down to Konquerer, like you suggested, and Dolphin. Can I use either as a stand alone file manager in a custom DE in Arch without using KDE?

  • Resource Manager Consumer Groups

I have implemented Database Resource Manager by creating new plan and new consumer groups. We are running oracle 9i. At database level it is active.
We are running 11.5.9 oracle applications. At the profile option "FND:Consumer Groups" of apps, in lov only two values are appearing but not those which I have created at the database level.
How to reflect these new consumer groups in 11i apps ?

    Hi,
I have not tested it but i think a full db export/import (using data pump or traditional exp/imp) may help doing this (which might not be feasible for you to have full exp/imp) because full database mode exports/imports SYS schema objects also, so there is a chance that it will also import the resource group and resource plans.

  • Sys_group and resource manager

    Hello.
How much CPU % and at which level should I allocate to SYS_GROUP consumer group?
    1. Should I allocate 100% CPU to SYS_GROUP at level 1 and distribute CPU at level 2 to users
    2. Should I not mention SYS_GROUP in resource plan?

In setting up a resource manager plan it is very important that you set the system DBA's in the highest priority group for situations where it is needed the most. If your database started to get hung due to extensive queries and you as the DBA want to go in and diagnose or monitor the database then you wouldn't want your diagnostic queries to wait for CPU allocation. If you are not in the higher group and all the machine resources are busy then even login to the database could take a lot of time yet alone trying to diagnose or kill any query.
It is also important that if you set these accounts to the top most group then you should write very efficient SQL's to monitor your database (if you aren't using any standard product such as Enterprise Manager). Otherwise such could cause impact on the business queries.
Now the question regarding how much to assign them - it all depends on your business requirements. You have to design your own resource management as per the business objectives. In some situations people configure them as follows:
Level 1 - CPU 100% other directives UNLIMITED. Consumers SYS, SYSTEM, any other SYSDBA accounts and accounts like SYSMAN, DBSNMP
Level 2 - CPU 100% other directives either UNLIMITED or CONSTRAINEd. Consumers all other accounts in the database.
Or you can further split the users between Level 2 till last available level.
IF you don't mention the SYS_GROUP in your plan it will be categorized by Oracle as OTHER_GROUPS and will be given the least priority.
