Automatic import of downloaded tracks

Whenever I download a track, from beatport or wherever, to my "downloads" folder, it automatically imports into my itunes library. Any idea how i turn this off? I'd rather drag and drop anything I want to feature in itunes.... thanks

I am not familiar with Beatport but when I download from Amazon I can adjust download preferences so that it can be added automatically or not.
Do you have option in Beatports downloaded preferences?

i download a lot of music from blogs, most of it is indie label or no-label and can't be purchased from the itunes store. anyway, using firefox, when i download a track it saves it to my downloads folder and then itunes automatically imports the file and starts playing it.
needless to say this is annoying. i'm usually doing other stuff while downloading and i don't want itunes opening on it's own and playing songs while i'm busy doing other things. also, i prefer to move the files into itunes manually.
i feel like this should be simple, and maybe it is, but i can't figure it out. how do i keep this from happening? anyone?

If your backup copy of the old computer was not stolen, then use it to put everything back.

I usually end up deleting a bunch of songs, but iTunes is automatically importing/adding the songs I download which then creates a lot of missing file links. How do I stop iTunes from doing that, I just want to be able to add them manually by folders.

I'm having a similar problem.
When I download songs via my MobileMe "iDisk" webpage, it will automatically end up in iTunes and starts playing. I set up my iDisk settings to place my downloads on my desktop, which it does, just fine.
Nonetheless iTunes ALWAYS wanting to be part of it, is really annoying.
I just DON'T want iTunes to start up, just because a download finished. I add songs manually myself when I want it.

there is no forced use of LR5 and your LR4 will remain in place and active. Should you decide to use LR5 it will try to,import your catalogs.

A way to automatically transfer newly downloaded photos into iPhoto?

I download load a lot of random photos and it is a pain to download them to the hard drive and then import them into iphoto. Is there a way (possibly through automator) for me (when I download a new photo) to automatically import it into iPhoto?

It is a database - not a file manager
It is not fragile - few people who follow the rules ever have a problem - the prime rule is do not ever change the contents of the iPhoto database (iPhoto library) - except with iPhoto
Hardware or software failures can damage the database and therefore is it important to have backups - but then that is true of all computer files
Why use it - the power of the database - I can show you all photos that I took in Cortona Italy in a second - or all photos of my wife and grandson taken in 2006 - or of my granddaughter at a birthday party - of gather and export for a digital frame all photos of my mother -- etc, etc, etc
Plus it makes great keepsakes (I do books of vacations now that we keep on our coffee table and look through instead of photo albums that we never go back to)
And it creates and maintains web albums
It is a fun and very powerful program
There is nothing wrong with Picasa - lots of people use it - it just is nothing like iPhoto
Before you make a decision create a small (100 - 200 photos) iPhoto library and assign faces and places and keywords and play with it - you may find that you like it
As to duplicates - it make no duplicates - it does have two or three (if you have made any modifications) versions of a photo
iPhoto maintains your original photo unchanged - the digital negative - so you always have it available - it does make a small thumbnail for display and when you modify a photo it keeps one modified version - it uses non destructive editing so each edit goes back to the digital negative eliminating the progressive degradation of an image created by multiple edits in other programs.

Not automatically importing from Mail

Ever since I got on Leopard, my ical has not automatically imported the invites from mail regardless of the setting I have it on. It was "supposed to be fixed in 10.5.1 and then .2, but never happened. Anyone else having this trouble?

I am having this problem too, running 10.5.2. I also have the problem that when I go to download appointments from the Apple Store concierge system, Firefox will not download it as a .ics file, but turns it into some whacked mpeg that is not a movie and cannot be opened.

SWhy do imported and downloaded CD's often go to multple folders?

When I import or download a CD the songs or tracks often go to multiple folders rather than to a single folder, even when the artist is the same on all or when all the tracks are part of the same CD title. Is there an explanation for this? Usually I create a Playlist of all the tracks in order to place them together in my iPod.

With this specific bin structure, if I import as you described the file imports to the Reception Bin. I tried the same proceedure with highlighting>righ clicking> and importing, files to all bin levels even to the root level not inside a bin and it still goes to the reception bin. So for what ever reason for this project I am working on now the Reception Bin has become the default bin.
This holds true for titles as well, they get created in the reception bin.
I thought it might have something to do with the fact that I presort my footage into folders then "import folder" into the footage bin. I thought it might have something to do with the last bin I created or imported became a default bin but in this scenario. The Receception bin is the second to last folder I imported/created.

Automatically importing from SD slot in laptop?

I have an SD slot built in to my laptop and I'd like for elements 8 to automatically import the photos when I insert the SD card. I get an error message when I insert the card that says "This file does not have a program associated with it" and tells me to set default programs in control panels. But I have already set auto=play options in windows 7 to organize and import photos with adobe elements 8. And it just doesn't happen! anyone know how to fix this? I have elements 7 installed on my machine and a trial of premiere 9 also. I dont' know if they could be interfering, but I need some way to get these photos to automatically import from what winds up being my F: drive.

You could try amending the prefs and see if that makes any difference.
Open Organizer and click edit à Preferences à Camera or Card Reader
Click on generic Device to highlight it; then click edit.
From the Download Options dropdown menu select Automatic Download
Then click OK

Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin. Sometimes it's necessary to uninstall then reinstall that plugin.
Uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed plugin first.
Now launch Safari and try a video.
If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to: Open in 32 bit mode is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
You may also need to delete the cache associated with Safari .
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy/paste: ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Click Go the move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a video.

Photostream - do you automatically import into Aperture?

Interested to hear from some advanced and pro Aperture users as to whether or not you have your Photostream automatically import into Aperture, I've done this without putting much thought into it but its led to having many unneccessary photos in my library, plus I import my iPhone photos manually from time to time (paranoid Photostream has missed some I guess). So should I be assured that no matter what all photos I take on my iPhone are automatically imported and hence I can stop manually importing them from time to time and hence causing more duplicates etc?
I am not sure, if I understand your concern correctly.
When you are taking photos with your iPhone, they will upload to the photo stream and be stored in iCloud. But you have plenty of time, befor ethey will upload. Photo Stream will only start the upload, when the iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi, when the battery is properly charged, and when the camera.app is closed.
Your mac will import the photos only once. when you import from the iPhone and the photos have already been downloaded from the stream, they will not show in the Import panel.

Itunes freezes when i try to download tracks

I'm getting the same thing. I'm running a G4, 2GB ram with 4 drives. My itunes hangs in the middle of importing my CD tracks. I even deleted my itunes pref. Is there a solution?

Automatic conversion after downloading software to PC

After downloading i-tunes, a series of messages in the info window at the top said it was converting '*' (name of song) doing each song in turn. I later had to close down the programme to switch off my PC and now when I open the i-tunes programme, the converting doesn't resume. I have 2 questions:
1. Is it important that the tracks are converted (what are they converting to?)
2. How do I get it to resume converting the remainder of my tracks?
