Automatic install of JRE

Hello,
I would like to install automatically the JRE on all the PC in my company.
For the comfort of the users and the security of the install I would need a silent mode of j2re-1_3_1-win.exe were I can set the destination directory on the command line.
Is that possible ? How ?
Also is the an install mode to upgrade a version of the JRE without keeping both installed on the PC ?
Thanks for any help,
Pierre

Hi,
I think you'll find what you need (or at least a part from it) at
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/silent.html
(ignore the 1.4 in the url, since it can also be applied for 1.3).
The package which contains the JRE is built using PackageForTheWeb from Installshield.
For more technical information about command line parameters etc you can go to http://www.installshield.com
Hope this helps,
Kurt.

  • How can I install a jre on client machines with no Internet Access

    Hi
I have a lot of client machines located throughout the country which are connected to a central network (Oracle) application server. The client machines do not have internet access. The application now uses an applet which is accessible from the network. I would like to use the <jsp:plugin> tag to automatically download and install a jre on the client browsers that don't have a jre installed, when they access the jsp page. Unfortunately, even using iepluginurl="http://server-address/jinstall-1_4_2-windows-i586.cab, the client machines still need to access the internet to install the JRE as the cab file needs to access files at the Sun site.
Is there any online jre installer, that can be used on a network where the client machines do not have internet access? Or do I need to install the JRE manually on each machine? The browsers are all Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    Thanks
    David

    Thanks for your reply ChuckBing.
Unfortunately I had already copied the instructions I found in the Sun documentaion to the letter and it still needed access to the internet. In the end I solved the problem by pointing the iepluginurl to a non existent file and putting a URL, pointing to an offline JRE executable on the server, as the message that appears when the applet cannot be loaded. The clients then have the choice of downloading the JRE or installing it online by clicking on the URL.
    Thanks anyway.

Firefox doesn't install new versions of plugins, but Flash may update itself automatically.<br />
You are still one version behind on Flash, current is Flash 10.1 r85<br />
If the Flash player didn't update properly then you need to download the full version and run the installer as Administrator (right-click: Run as ...)

You are more versions behind on Java updates with having Java 6 U11, current is 6 U22.

  • Install only JRE and not WebStart with v1.4

I have an application running over the web that automatically installs the JRE for people if they haven't installed it yet. Right now, I'm using version 1.3.1, but I'd like to change that to version 1.4.1.
When I install the JRE with support for a browser, though, it automatically installs WebStart, which I didn't ask for. I don't need WebStart to be installing on people's computers, so I was wondering if there might be a way to install the just the JRE (and browser plugin). Anyone know if there's a way?

I also want to find a way of installing without Webstart.
REason is that this is for a citrix installation and Webstart makes the apps work differently.

  • After upgrading to Firefox 36.0.4, it automatically installed noscript

After upgrading to Firefox 36.0.4, it removes all my existing add-on extension.
In addition, "noscript" was automatically installed and there is no way to remove it.
The "noscript" add-on does not show up in any of the add-on extension for me to disable/remove it.
I even tried adding noscript from the add-on so that the noscript add-on shows up in the
firefox extension page so that I could remove it but that does not remove the
original noscript that comes with Firefox 36.0.4
Hopefully there is a way for user to remove this and it is not part of Firefox 36.0.4.
At least allow user the options of using it or remove it.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

I am using Firefox 3.6.8. Oddly, my problem appeared a few hours PRIOR to Firefox automatically installing the latest updates (the week ending 7/23), not afterwards. The problem is this: the browser continues to display tabs, the reload/home/history/favorites icons, URL field and Google search field while in full-screen mode, so it's not really full-screen anymore. How can I correct this?

  • How do I install a JRE?, how do I install a JRE?

I'm trying to use my MBA, Mountain Lion, and Safari to access Defense Travel System (DTS). It is a CAC-enabled website. Here is the message I receive when trying to login:

How do I install a JRE? Apprarently my system has a version of java. I found this using "terminal" and the commande "java -version"
    java version "1.6.0_33"

    Anyone solved this problem?

If "Java -version" indicates you have Java installed (which it does), then it's properly installed.
Go to Safari's preferences, Security tab, and ensure that "Enable Java" is checked.

  • Can I maually check for updates but prevent them from being automatically installed if it turns out one is available?

Can I maually check for updates but prevent them from being automatically installed if it turns out one is available?
    Background:
In options I have "check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them" ticked. This works fine, in that I periodically receive a notice of an available update, and it will ask me whether I want to I want to install it.
But there are certain times -- for reasons I won't go into here (unless requested as part of seeking a solution) -- where I want to manually check for new versions, but RETAIN the ability to decide whether or not to install it. But if I click Help/About Firefox/Check for Updates, and it finds an update, it will immediately proceed to install it without asking for permission. While that seems quite inconsistent with my update preferences in Options, it is apparently normal behavior as described in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version#w_how-do-i-manually-check-for-updates.
So is there any way I can manually check for new-update availability but then refuse the update if I so choose? Once an unwanted install begins, I'm concerned that if I click cancel I could end up with a partial installation or some "messed up," duplicated or corrupted FF files (e.g., multiple versions appended with (1), (2) etc, similar to what sometimes confusingly happens when I do an XP System Restore).
    Thanks.

I think what needs to be made very clear here is that when a user clicks on "check for updates" the software should bloody well CHECK for updates and most certainly SHOULD NOT proceed to download and apply any updates. this is misleading and intrusive.
I just wanted to check if there was an updated version but I DID NOT want to actually update at that moment. the software downloaded data, costing me money and tried to apply the update which could have potentially messed up my settings if I had not checked everything was ok first.
I actually discovered how to prevent the update by searching through windows and manually deleting the files but why should anyone have to go to such lengths?
the software should simply do as it is asked, not do things that have most certainly not been asked.

It's highly unlikely that the Pages update problem has anything to do with the ARD client update, since the client is not involved in any way with Software Update. I'd suggest asking for assistance with the update problem in the forum appropriate for your version of Mac OS X.

  • Reader will not automatically install updates on Windows 7

I have looked through the forums and have not seen this exact symptom mentioned:
"Automatically install updates" does not seem to work correctly on Windows 7. The updates download and I see the "update is ready to install" bubble in the system tray repeatedly. However, the updates never seem to install. I've seen this on more than one Windows 7 machine (it works ok on XP). I suppose this could be something particular to our environment, but I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to look next. Leaving the system "idle" does not seem to help and the behavior does persist after a reboot.
(I'm running Process Monitor right now and see AdobeARM.exe occasionally and successfully creating and exiting a thread, but not touching any files or registry entries.)
I enabled this setting via the registry -
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM]
    "iCheck"=dword:00000003
    - and can see in the GUI that it has taken effect.
I do see some files in this directory - does this look correct?

Some additional information. I'm seeing "GetLastError(): 0x2 - The system cannot find the file specified" in c:\users\(me)\appdata\local\temp\AdobeARM.log. But even using Process Monitor, it's not clear to me which file cannot be found.
Still seems to me that updater is downloading the update but never trying to apply it. The most recent thing I have tried is to quit AdobeARM gracefully and restart it. That does seem to have reduced the number of subdirectories in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Reader\9.3\ARM\ to only one (previously there had been one subdirectory per run).

  • Automatic installation of JRE to run applet

I would like to check if the user(of my website, where I have an applet) have JRE 1.4.1 on the machine. If not I would like to "force" the user (ask him) to start the automatic installation of JRE.
I would like to do this from a JSP page.
Anyone who can help? - need some kind of link to the coorect download site for both IE and Netscape. And also some more information

Why don't you deploy your applet using Java Plugin? It
automatically begins the installation if the JRE is
not available. And all you have to do is specify the
right OBJECT tag on the HTML page. That is what I would like to do (but would prefere to do it from a JSP).
Anyway, which link should I use in the OBJECT and EMBED tag to get the client to automatically start downloading the JRE autoinstaller??

Installing 10.0.7 negates the need to install previous updates. Just install it (it will upgrade your projects to a newer format as well, from memory).
