Automatic Internet Connection at Night

I often leave my eMac (OS 10.2.8) on at night, having read in MACHOME that OS X performs routine maintenance between 2-5 a.m. However, in the morning, my screen shows that I am connected to the Internet, even though I have disconnected the prior evening. Any ideas as to why this happens? Should I be concerned? Thanks.

Another thing you could do is create a new network location and make it null. I have this arrangement to disconnect when I wish. Once made, this new location can be selected in the  Location menu. Selecting Automatic will put you back on-line.
This way you could leave it on all night and it won't be able to connect, but you have received good instruction anyway on how to do the maintenance routines yourself.
As to what is causing the connection; this is an odd circumstance to encounter.

My Macbook Pro 13" lost Internet connection last night. It's still out today, but my mother's Windows machine still gets it just fine. What happened to my Mac? The folks at Comcast told me it's a problem for Apple to fix. I'm hoping someone here can give me some insight.

  • How to dial automatically internet connection in firefox browser at browser startup as in internet explorer

i have ADSL modem broadband connection in which i have to connect to internet by establishing a connection by using following steps
control panel>network connection>create a new connection>connect to internet>set up my connection manually >connect using dial up modem OR connect using a braodband connection in which username and password required
creating this connection i have to provide username and password provided by ISP.
i have to dial internet connection manually after modem set local area connection automatically
i found a solution for internet explorer and by changing setting internet explorer start automatically dialling internet connection as i start the internet explorer.
is their in mozilla firefox an option to automatically dial internet connection as i open firefox browser?
and is their is any solution for as i start my computer internet connections established automatically without opening any browser , if such solution is available ,please tell about it.

The setting you set in IE also affects Firefox. For example, if you set the following, then when Firefox makes a connection request to Windows, Windows is supposed to dial the connection:
Windows Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections or <br>
Internet Explorer Tools menu > Internet Options > Connections
"Dial whenever a network connection is not present"

  • Automatic internet connection

Probably a basic question but, when I start mac book pro the internet connection does not connect automatically. What setting has to be configure so when the computer is started it automatically connect to the net.
    Thnx,

are you trying to connect with ethernet cable or wireless? Because if it wireless, it may have something to do with your router security like WEP.

  • Automate Internet Connection Sharing

I'm trying to create a couple of Automator workflows or AppleScripts to turn on and off Internet Connection Sharing, preferably with different SSIDs depending on my location (I don't mind having separate workflows/scripts for each SSID). It doesn't look like there are any Automator actions for this so I tried recording my actions, but that's not working. The slightest twitch of the mouse throws off the running script and even if I totally let go of the mouse it's not getting the selections done correctly (for example, instead of opening the System Preferences pane, it keeps going to Mac OS X Software on the Apple Menu).
Can anyone help me out with this?
(Cross-posting in Automator and AppleScript forums)

    Hi,
First of all, to open system preferences, try using the "Launch Application" function in automator and choose System Preferences. This should solve the mouse problem because it doesn't rely on mouse clicks.
Then, for all other functions where you need to record mouse clicks, try using a separate recording for each mouse click.
Make sure you set the execution speed for each recording to maximum before saving as applications, otherwise they will take forever to run and you'll have more chance of small mouse movements disturbing the script between clicks.
I set up scripts in this way to do the same thing you are talking about, except mine where for file sharing with different individuals on my network. So far I haven't had any problems.

  • Satellite C660-108 - No Automatic internet connection

    I bought a replacement laptop last weekend - a Toshiba C660 - 108 - which is giving me a problem.
I cannot get the computer to connect automatically to the internet router (Orange) as it fails to connect initially even though the network is always visible. I then require to go upstairs to the router, press the wifi button and then i can connect. This works fine until either i lose connection or switch off when i find again I have to repeat the process.
We have three other Toshiba laptops in the house which all work happily and automatically.
Have tried to connect with virus protection disabled and no different so no conflict there I think.
Have checked that i have latest driver and do.
Have noticed though that when i bring up the list of available networks within range, my connection does not have a check box for "Allow to connect automatically" whereas the others listed do. I have checked all properties and boxes are ticked to allow auto connection.
When i use my laptop at work it connects to the network automatically without any problem ( work's is a BTConnect router).
Have spent all week looking for a fix for this on forums and would be obliged if anyone can tell me what's able to be done to allow an automatic connection.

I purched a similar model (C660-11K) from Amazon UK 5-days ago. Initially all seemed okay and then I had problems connecting to the internet.
After much checking and testing (WLAN card and router) I stumbled upon the fact that I could connect and use the internet when the laptop was connected to the charger but not when running on battery power. Wierd!
So then I went to Realtek website, downloaded and installed the latest driver for the RLT8188CE Wireless LAN. Everthing is now working correctly: on mains or battery.
I hope that this is of help to you, and gets you working.

  • Verizon Fios and internet connection issue for ONLY some of my devices

Lost my internet connection last night for about half of my devices (iMac, iPad, Kindle) but the funny thing is that the other devices are able to connect to the internet at the same time.
The Verizon Fios router is MI424WR with dual antennae.  I have a Time Capsule hooked up via ethernet to the Verizon router and am using the TC as a wireless access point.
As I am not computer knowledgable, could this happen if there was a firmware update on the Fios router?  Could the Fios router allow only certain devices access while denying access to other devices to the internet?  It seems that if only one device can access the internet, the system does work but there is a "gatekeeper" that is not allowing access.

No, you use the airport utility not Network Preferences which is your local computer setup.
Setup of the TC you need to select it in the airport utility.. on either a Mac or in a phone or ipad.
When you open it click on the TC and go to the edit tab and check all the details. eg the bridge is here.
Go to the wireless tab to setup wireless.
I recommend a change of wireless name if you do not use names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. do so.
See how you go without a factory reset but if that doesn't work then a reset is in order.

  • Is Internet Connect a startup application?

Over the past week or two, after launching Safari or Firefox, the application indicates that it is not connected to the Internet. I need to go to Internet Connect (which is "idle") to manually connect to the net.
Should Internet Connect be connecting to the net as a function of startup? Or is the connection to the net made when a browser is launched?
I have dumped Internet Connect preferences but this makes no difference.
    Thoughts?
    Dennis

Thanks for the help. I found the problem playing around in Network. I connect through Ethernet. For some reason when the Location is set to my provider (sympatico) Internet Connect does not start up. When I switch Location to Automatic, Internet Connect now functions properly.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

  • N8 apps make unwanted internet connection automati...

    Dear users,
I have had my N8 for a week now. It's beautiful, but there is only one issue I cannot resolve.
With my other Nokia's (also Vodafone as provider) I was able to set any internet connection manually by selecting "Always ask" in the phone's connection settings to prevent the phone from making expensive internet Vodafone connections, especially when being abroad.
With my new N8, Vodafone has secured my internet connections (Vodafone Live), so I am not able to edit the connections anymore and make adjustments. I noticed that with many apps from the Ovi Store, my phone immediately selects Vodafone Live as an internet connection automatically, There is no way to change this or to prevent the app from making the connection to Vodafone Live. Even when my home Wifi network is in range.
Anyone with the same problem? Is it a Vodafone issue? Is Vodafone trying to push users to use their internet connection by protecting the connection settings for Vodafone Live?
    Thank you so much...

    hi everyone,
first of all i want to say im polish so... sorry for my english ;p
im my language there is only one article about automatic connection forced by on n8-> http://translate.google.pl/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=pl&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=pl&tl=en&u=http%...
i figured out its propably by nokia ovi store.
ive found that my n8 have the same problem as yours, i mean its connecting automatically to internet by network with priority #1 in INTERNET group. If its WiFi, nokia will connect by this WiFi if its Network Package Connection, nokia will connect by this one.
Shutting down (by widget) scanning for WiFi or disconnecting gives no improvment, still connecting about 3 sec after disconnecting.
    Remove/Editing/Adding again connections
    gives no effect
Restarting phone does not help. Widgets are offline.
    setting -> connectivity -> admin.setting -> package data -> when needed/when exist
    gives no effect
Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> Settings -> Data use in home country
     Automatic/Always ask/WLAN only/Home network only
    gives no effect
Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> Settings -> Switch to WLAN
    Only know WLANs/Manual
    gives no effect
    Any ideas ??
FOUND IT !! Thank you ISMOK it was mail synchronising, after turning off every day it has stopped connecting.

  • [Solved] How Can Internet Connection to Start Automatically?

I have a fresh install and if I run "sudo dhcpcd eth0" then it works fine, but it doesn't start by itself.
    I tried
    sudo systemctl enable dhcpcd
    but the response was
Failed to issue method call: No such file or directory
I knew how to do this when we had rc.conf.
How do I do it now?
Last edited by CaptainKirk (2012-11-15 19:48:44)

Ah, righto. I was looking at the page but I was stuck on the "Establish an internet connection" section, which actually says dhcpcd is started automatically--I guess that means just for the live CD. I didn't find the "Configure the network" section.
    Thank you.

  • My ipad mini loses Internet connection every time it automatically locks.

My ipad mini loses Internet connection every time it automatically locks. I have to re-establish the connection but sometimes it would take too long for the Internet to be connected. I'm using a wireless connection

just browsing around I found this question. Also on my mini retina I fight with this problem. After a lot of searching I found that the only solution is to switch to
Airplane Mode, wait few seconds and switch again.
Or, if you are lucky, to find a Genius who replaces your unit. Cheers

  • I just wanted to know how to stop loading of rss feeds automatically ? In prior to FF 11 the rss feeds would display if there was no internet connection

I just wanted to know how to stop loading of rss feeds automatically ? In prior to FF 11 the rss feeds would display if there was no internet connection but now in newer version it would say live bookmark failed to load and doesn't display any feeds, in previous version it would atleast display feeds but in newer version it won't display anything:(

hello Nitin1234, the handling of live bookmarks was changed quite fundamentally starting in firefox 13 & upwards in order to improve the overall performance of the browser - now rss feeds won't get updated in the background anymore but will only be fetched when you're actively accessing them. this is probably leading to the unwanted side-effect that you're experiencing, unfortunately i don't know any way around that.
nevertheless please [[Update Firefox to the latest version|update firefox to the latest version]] (16.0.1 at the moment) to stay secure on the web, since there have been many [https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html highly critical vulnerabilities fixed] since firefox 11/13!
