Automatic iOS updates

How do you turn this "feature" off. I do not want my iPad or iPhone to automatically download these files. Thanks

Hey,
If you would like to turn automatic updates off, navigate to settings > iTunes & App Store.
At the bottom of this settings screen you will find a switch titled Updates. This turns off automatic updates.

So every time I would charge, I'd have to turn off WiFi to prevent it from trying to upload?   Or in other words, Apple just assumes that we all have high speed WiFi available and uploading is no big deal?   What if we want to wait before installing a new operating system to make sure there isn't a problem.
Turning off WiFi is not onerous. One swipe up to reveal Control Center, and one tap. Many people routinely turn off WiFi because they mistakenly think that it saves battery life.
Yes, Apple DOES assume that if you have WiFi it is free and unlimited; not that the latest update (30 MB) would have made much of a dent in a data plan.
As to waiting, every major update has been tested for months by tens of thousands of users. There has been only one update that had a problem (2.1), and that was 6 years ago. It was not a "fatal" problem in that phones still worked, but consumed battery faster than normal. A followup patch 2 weeks later fixed it. While a few people have problems after installing an update, knowing that provides no useful information to those who have not updated yet, because these cases are isolated and unrelated to the quality of the update itself.

  • IPad automatic iOS update fail

My iPad suddenly shut down and after a while I realized that it was updating to iOS 7 although I didn't touch anything that had to do with updates. It's not synchronized to a computer and there are lots of apps and important files so I can't restore it. Is there a way to get out of the shiv to iTunes screen without any of my data getting erased?

The update 6.0.1 is cursed, i stopped getting signal afterwards, dont know what to tell you go to expresslane drop them an email ...

  • Automatic app updates in ios 8

Just updated to iOS 8, and discovered an odd issue, as follows:
One of my favorite additions of iOS 7 was the automatic app updates, because I do not have access to the app store. My app store is locked under restrictions, but with automatic updates I had no need for the app store in order to update my existing apps.
Well, I just updated to iOS 8, and I find that there is only an option for automatic app updates when the app store is open, but as soon as the app store is locked through restrictions, the automatic updates option disappears. And to add to the mystery, the only way to get it back is by SIGNING OUT of my Apple ID. When I do that, the automatic music downloads option disappears, and it is replaced by an option for automatic app updates.
Is this intentional? Why on Earth is there no option for auto updates when signed in, only when signed out? I can't make any sense of it. Any help would be appreciated.
Other than that, iOS 8 is awesome so far.

I'm pretty sure they are working out some kinks still...   Mine is working, but intermittantly.
It's probably safe to assume that all of the devices in the world won't update at the same moment to preserve server overload, so we'll need to be patient.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

my iphone 5 crashes (restarts) automatically after updating to ios 7.1 anyboday facing same issues ? Need help !!!!

I am having the same issues--just got off phone with customer service rep--was told that my phone is in recoveyr mode and that I would have to restore it, however, the only things that would be restored would be from my last backup which was in November 2013!  I was also told that apple users should not update as soon as the update is available (so why are they sending it to us if they're not sure that there will be any problems!!!).  I can't restore now since I am in work--will do it when I go home tonight.  In the meantime, I am without a working iphone for the day!  This is horrible--I see I'm not the only one who has experienced this!

  • HT4623 My iPad does not have the automatic software update and I do not know how to download IOS if under settings there is no software update button available. Do I have to reset my iPad and lose data?

My iPad does not have the automatic software update and I do not know how to get IOS 6 onto it. When I go into settings there is no software update button.

If you are really on iOS 5 then look in Settings > General > Software update.
    Otherwise:
If you are using iOS 4 (or earlier) there is no Software Update in Settings. That feature was first added in iOS 5.
To update you will have to connect your iPad to iTunes on a computer (preferably the one you sync with and backup to).

how do i get iOS updates for my ipad?  I never received an automatic update for it.

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

  • Automatic App Updates in iOS 7

    Hello,
I have automatic app updates turned on but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I've had to update my app manually so far. Right now I have three listed as "pending" but they haven't downloaded yet. Is there some kind of delay?
    Thanks.

I'm pretty sure they are working out some kinks still...   Mine is working, but intermittantly.

  • My iPhone automatically recovers some deleted images after iOS update

Some months back I deleted few images off my iPhone. I understand that photo stream was 'On'. I noticed that my iPhone was recovering the images now and then. I put 'Off' all the sharing services, photo streams etc etc still my iPhone recovers these images after an iOS update. These are some sensitive photos and I would be in big trouble if this continues.

    What exactly have you tried?
What happens when you try those things?
What is the exact wording of any error messages received?

  • I have been using facetime on my iphone for a while and after the recent, ios update, I cannot seem to use the facetime. What went wrong?

I have been using facetime on my iphone5 for a while and after the recent IOS update, I cannot seems to use my facetime any longer. what went wrong?

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Automatic app updates in iOS7:  How do you know what's been updated?

Once you turn on the automatic/background updating of apps in iOS 7, is there any way to know which apps have been recently updated?  For example, there may be new features in an app that you would want to know about.
    Thanks,

You can also open the App Store app > Updates and it will list the apps and date they were updated.
There should also be an alert in your Notification Center (swipe down from the top of the screen) under the "All" tab

  • Automatic App Updates Stopped

I'm not sure when, maybe a few weeks ago, but suddenly all of my automatic updates for iOS apps have stopped.  I will click on the App Store every few days and there will be 10-20 updates waiting for me.  Same goes with my wife's phone and our iPads.  Did something happen in iOS?  Is there a setting that I'm missing (I have the automatic app updates set to "on" in the setting menu.  Please help!

  • Where do you get the ios update

Where do you find the iOS update?

iTunes will automatically get the iOS firmware for your iPhone.
You can always download iOS from Apple directly.
