Automatic jump to previous screen when an arrow on left appears

There is an arrow (left hand side of screen, mid way down) that keeps popping up randomly.  When it appears it causes my email screen or on-line screen to jump back to the previous screen.  Does anyone have any ideas what this is all about?  It is a pain, as it sometimes causes me to loose data, or is time consuming.

I checked out all the trackpad gestures, but nothing seems to make sense as to why my screen keeps doing what it is doing.
I think that this "automatic, jumping screen" happens when the Launchpad icon at the bottom of my screen, moves. ?????

Although you say you have let the battery drain, was it for long enough? Since nothing else that you've tried so far has worked, I suggest that you leave the iPod unplugged for at least four days, preferably a week. That way, if something is stopping the iPod from turning the screen on, then whatever it is will drain the battrey. However, since the screen isn't on, that may take longer than if the screen was on.
Then, after that time, plug the iPod into a power source and leave it alone for at least thirty minutes. Only after thirty minutes will it show any signs of life, but you should leave it until it is fully charged before trying to use it.
If you get to this stage, the fact that the battery has drained will cause the iPod to reset when it springs back to life.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Window Goes Off-Screen When Mouse arrow Is Moved To Upper Right Hand Corner

It seems like this happened recently. When the mouse is moved and pointed to the upper right hand corner of the screen everything displayed goes off-screen to the right and left sides. The edge of the window is shown on the right side and a shadow on the left side- when I click on those everything pops back on-screen. I have a bad habit of moving my mouse quickly and this has become annoying.
I thought it may have been a "Hot Corner" but I checked and this feature is not enabled(in Expose/Dashboard)
How do I disable this feature?
    Thank you in advance.
    Steve

    Hello Steve:
It definitely sounds like the hot corner "all windows" is enabled. There is a preference file that needs to be trashed, but I cannot figure out which one (no help to you).
Be sure that none of the hot corners are enabled and then restart.
You might also try resetting PRAM (although I do not think that will do anything).

You need to re install OSX. If you have the dmg file downloaded via torrentz this is how you can create a bootable external HD or Flash drive (8 GB+)

  • Disable automatically jumping to import screen?

I'm not sure whether this issue occurs with my cameras or only with my iPhone, frankly it is not a problem with the camera because I usually plug a camera into the computer for one and only one reason. But, I know it occurs with an iPhone, which I rarely care about as a camera.
What happens is I plug in the iPhone for whatever reason, usually to charge it, and whatever I was working on in iPhoto is irrecoverably interrupted by an unwanted "Import" screen. It's like a sick joke, as though I were a supervillain and iPhoto and iPhone were my very idiotic assistants.
"Here, we found some pictures of your car in a parking lot. There's also a picture of a Bentley you saw at the airport and wanted to MMS to your buddy. We figure you'd much rather import these than continue identifying the faces in your concert pictures, or cropping those poster prints, so I went ahead and threw away your current task to bring you these. If you tell us to go away, we'll make you go back to the beginning to pick up your other work, so we'll still laugh at you."
What's really funny is that it does this even when there are no pictures to import. So it takes you away from a real task to present you with a screen where you can't do anything.
Does anyone know of a way to make this behavior stop? I see plenty of discussion on here of how to get iPhoto not to launch automatically, but that is not the problem. iPhoto is already running. I just want iPhoto to either not jump directly to the iPhone import photos screen, or not acknowledge the iPhone at all.

I can't locate such an option precisely.
When I go into iPhoto preferences, under General, the only thing with a drop-down is "Connecting camera opens:" with choices of iPhoto, Image Capture, and No Application. I have it set to No Application. However, this is still happening.
I see that in 10.6.2, Image Capture has been modified, it no longer has a preference window, but each connected device shows up. When I click my iPhone in that application, it also has it set to, no application. I really wish that I could find the option that you are describing.

  • How do I set up my apple laptop to automatically show the active screen when attaching a HDMI cable to my TV

When using HDMI cable to TV how do I set up to automatically display the active laptop screen so that I don't have to drag to TV

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode with the MacBook as the main screen. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the TV but you can move the cursor onto the TV screen.
In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen.
The TV will now have the Dock and Menu Bar and windows will open on it. But you can move the cursor to the MacBook screen and move windows from the TV over to the MacBook screen.
You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box. That will give you the same screen at the same resolution on both the MacBook and the external monitor.

  • Query with filters, but Web Appl Designer jumps the previous screen

    Hi all!

    Hi,
In WAD, open your web template.
Click on anywhere in the template other than on web items (White screen) --> Goto Web item properties of template (present in left pane of WAD) --> Force Variable Screen (Check this option).
Now Save and execute your query. You will get the variable screen displayed.

  • Mac shuts down automatically on gray apple screen when starting up

My mac was having the issue of the curser being a color wheel and just spinning on startup. I have cleared applications list, verify and repaired permissions but nothing has worked to keep my mac from locking up and spinning. Finally I restarted pressing cmd and "R" to get to disc utility to find out I need to reformat. But now when starting up gets to the gray screen with the apple logo and shows the load bar underneith and can not get to the desktop. Once it loads my mac just shuts down. This happens over and over if I continue to restart. I have accessed the disc utility from startup and tried to verify and repair but it says that I need to reformat because of a hard drive error but I need to backup my mac before doing that since I have a LOT of sensitive information on my computer. The issue is, I can not boot to desktop regularly or in safe mode to backup my mac. This is my work computer so I am unable to do anything at work until this gets fixed which means I am loosing money. Please help me boot to my desktop so I can get this backed up and reformated asap.

  • How to blank laptop screen when using external monitor/

    Hi there
I need some help with figuring out how to configure my xorg.conf for my Arch Linux 64 bit installation on a HP Pavilion dv 5000 laptop so that I can automatically blank my laptop screen when using an external monitor.  I have Arch Linux installed along with Ubuntu Feisty.  In Ubuntu my external monitor (Viewsonic 1912WB) was not detected at the time of installation but with the native 1280X800 resolution that is good for the laptop takes effect for the external monitor automatically when the external monitor is plugged in.  The laptop monitor goes blank when the external monitor is plugged in.
In my Arch Linux installation I have not been able to configure a dual head configuration using the ATI Radeon drivers (fglrx).  I have the native 1280X800 resolution set up for the laptop monitor and this resolution takes effect for the external monitor also.  However the laptop monitor also continues to function when the external monitor is plugged in.  I would like to blank the laptop monitor when using the external monitor.
I am attaching my Arch Linux xorg.conf and the Ubuntu xorg.conf below.  Thanks for anyone who can help, I am having a lot of difficulty in figuring out how to set up xorg.conf among all the things that I have had to learn so far in Linux and I am a relative newcomer to the whole thing. I have tried to compare the two xorg.conf files and edit my Arch xorg.conf in accordance with the Ubuntu one but it did not work and I keep getting errors!
I am using XFCE as my Desktop environment.

Xrandr 1.2 provides means for this. But today the only supported configuration is xorg-server-1.3 + xf86-video-intel-2.0. So for Radeon you'll have to wait for drivers that support Randr 1.2.
On my laptop (Thinkpad x60s) that would be:
    xrandr --output VGA --auto
    xrandr --output LVDS --off

  • How do you automatically maximize the active video when it changes...

    Hey guys,
I'm looking for a way to automatically maximize the next video in queue when viewing videos online. The specific example I am looking for is here: NHL.com
As you'll see, when the next video in line plays the screen minimizes to regular size. Note that I have an ad-remover so that ad doesn't come up... I'm looking for a way to automatically maximize the video screen when the next video plays (and thus minimizes).
Macros would work but it would be hard to time it and to make it work across a large spectrum of sites. I'm looking for something that more or less detects video applets (automatically or through inputted settings) and automatically full screens it when available...
    Thanks!

So we can design robots that can guide weapons launched from thousands of miles away into a specific window of our choosing, but no one has designed a solution for this?

  • Trackpad draging and jumping around the screen

trackpad works for a while but then the trackpad begins to drag (when I move my finger around the trackpad, the curser either doesent move at all or moves very slowly) and the curser begins to jump around the screen when the trackpad and computer isent being touched. I tried to connect a wireless mouse and it too bagan with the same problems. if anyone has any ideas of how to fix it, im all ears.

    Yes i've gotten this twice.
Once from not quite legitmate software.
Once from a sketch NSFK site.
Both times, it was easily resolved for me by shutting down.
Follow the procedure to reset SMC controller ( make sure you do this properly ) Guides are available on Apple's support page.
Immediatly after the SMC reset before any other reboot reset the PRAM several times.
    then reboot as normal.
...I'm not sure what exactly is going on.. I think some setting is getting adjusted and set EFI that's why normal reboots, safe mode, nothing else solves it.   One of the more eye opening aspect of it for me was when I rebooted my macbook into Windows7 via bootcamp and it still presisted.   At that point it had NOTHING to do w/ OS software, plist, safe mode or myraid of other suggestions you'll encounter.

When I open iTunes it will automatically go to full screen mode. I can't work out how to turn this off. Only iTunes opens to full screen mode.

Go to System Preferences (under the Apple logo in the menu bar).  Choose "General".  Click "Always close windows when quitting an application".
    That should fix it.

Place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore it via iTunes.  For recovery mode see:
