Automatic login to wireless problem

We have several computers at home, all connected to the internet through a wireless router hooked up to our main PC. Then there is my laptop, my old iMac, and my son's PC. Everything was working fine ... when I'd start my PowerBook G4, it would automatically detect our wireless network and connect my laptop to the network.
However, we had our son hook up his Playstation3 to the router via an ethernet cable. This way would could take away the ethernet cable to limit his playing time and encourage him to do his homework. The Playstation3 also "hijacks" the IP address, basically blocking anyone else in the house from using the internet.
Well, my son found the WEP password for the wireless, and decided to put it on his Playstation3 so he could play online whenever we weren't looking. Well, when we found out he had pinched the WEP password, we reset the it on the wireless Linksys router, and I went into my Keychain and changed the WEP key for the wireless network on my PowerBook. Problem solved, right?
Well, now when I start up my G4 Powerbook, it detects our home wireless network but no longer automatically signs in to the network. Additionally, when I try to select our wireless network from the AirPort pull-down menu from the Finder window menu bar, it says that an error occurred and it can not connect. Hitting the "Try Again" button is futile. I have to go into Internet Connect, select "Other" from the available wireless networks, then pick our home wireless network from the list. I then have to type in that annoying 26 digit WEP 128-bit Hexidecimal security key! Only then do I get the connection to our wireless. Additionally, I have to do this EVERY SINGLE TIME I boot my Powerbook -- it doesn't seem to want to remember the password, even though it is stored in the keychain.
This problem is very frustrating! Why won't my Powerbook automatically login to our network?

Good news!
Yep, that was the WEP I was talking about, 104/128bit/26Hex.
Now it takes just 3 seconds to extract a 104-bit WEP key from intercepted data using a 1.7GHz Pentium M processor...

  • Automatic Login to Network problems!

    I have a 3 Mac network. They are connected to a gigabit switch that is attached to a gigabit Airport Extreme.
    My problem is that I want to have my computers automatically log in to my shared NAS drive when they startup in the mornings (they are on a schedule to startup). What I did was go to the user in System Pref and add a link to the startup items that is the shared drive. One machine automatically logs in like expected. The other 2 machines say that they can not find the server! I turned off the firewalls on the machines and that doesn't seem to help. What can I do to get the machines to login to my NAS automatically on startup?

  • PC will not automatically connect to wireless network on startup...

    Hi all - I have a WRTG54 wirless router with the latest firmware.  Windows XP Home SP2.  I have a mixed network with two wired PCs and one wireless.  The wireless PC will not automatically connect to the network. To connect to the network i have to go to the wireless network properties box and check "let windows automatically configure network"  Once I do this the wirelss PC connects with no problem.  Unfortunatley, whenever i turn the PC off and turn it back on the "let windows automatically configure network" is unchecked and i have to go through the process of checking it again.  I uninstalled the wireless adapter and reinstalled the drivers only and then ran the windows wireless setup wizard but the problem persists.  Any help on this would be much appreciated.!!!! Thanks!!

    First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
    Do not let "Windows automatically configure your network".  Instead do the following:
    Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Delete your current network (this will remove any old settings).  Reboot computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  It should connect automatically.  If you still have trouble, in the computer, temporarily disable your software firewall, including Windows Firewall, and see if that helps.
    Some users have reported improved wireless connections by switching to WPA  ( = WPA with TKIP)  encryption.

  • Wifi:  Automatic login?

    In one of the public presentations of OS X 3.0 -- probably the initial one -- a feature called automatic login for Wifi was mentioned. Unfortunately, I don't see it.
    I understood that this should solve the following problem: You're using your iPhone in the proximity of an "open" Wifi network, and so your iPhone connects to it. Actually, though, the network isn't open. If you open Safari every attempt to view a page will be redirected to a login screen. So, until you do so, Mail and anything else that depends on an Internet connection will be stuck. The automatic login, I thought, would allow you to "script" the login for a provider.
    Does anybody have anymore information?

    No script required: http://www.apple.com/iphone/how-to/#settings.wi-fi
    Here's one example:
    http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/internet/wifi.jsp
    http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/internet/accessing-wifi.jsp
    "If you purchased an iPhone 3G S or updated your original iPhone or iPhone 3G with the latest Apple iPhone OS 3.0 software here's how to access AT&T Wi-Fi Services:
    Activate Wi-Fi from the settings icon on your iPhone.
    Once you are in an AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot, select "attwifi" from the list of available networks.
    Every time you enter an AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot, you will be automatically and securely logged into the AT&T Wi-Fi network."

  • WRT54GS Wireless Problem

    Everytime I try to get on the internet my computer wants to use the 10/100 network connection, insted of my wireless card. I can disable the 10/100 network connection, and it will use the wireless card. Is there a way I tell the internet to just use the wireless card?
    Thanks for any help,

    Disconnect the ethernet cable from your 10/100 ethernet card.
    Also, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
    If the above does not fix the problem, then in your computer, go into your wireless settings, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys".  Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. If your current network is not listed, enter its info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  It should do your wireless login automatically.

  • Regarding the wireless problem of my T60. Hope there is someone who can help me out. Thx.

    I have read some of the posts and i found out that some of the Thinkpad users have the problem of unable to connect wireless network using Access Connection but not Window wireless network connection. For my case, i have connect the network with both of them. In fact, when i use either one to connect, the other would be connected too.
    The problem is, sometimes when i use my wireless network, my wireless would be switched off automatically, and the wireless light is then off, and after that i cannot switched the wireless on again. I tried on it using access connection, failed. I tried Fn+F5 to on it, but no matter how many times i click on 'on', there would not be any response. The only thing i can do after this is to restart to laptop.
    I called Lenovo Support to help me solve the problem, but still failed. The first time they asked me to installed some drivers and reinstall my Intel(R) Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection. These files included 79uj29us which is a bios update, 7kwc50ww which is the wireless driver installation, 7tvu12ww which is the hotkey driver update, and last 7tku03ww, a power management driver update. But the problem remains. The 2nd time i called, they asked me to uninstall my Access Connection and use window wireless connection as they may cause conflict to each other, and they asked me to uncheck the option of 'Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power' in the power management of wireless drive in device manager, but problem persists. The last time i called the technician and he said they only can check if it is a hardware problem and there most probably be nothing else they can do for my softwares and drivers, and he also believed that it might be the network configuration of my service provider that cause the problem, but i personally do not think so as it is quite hard to believe that the my service is switching off my wireless hardware and i have other laptop in my house too but they do not experience this problem.
    Last night i discovered something new, when the wireless is off automatically again, i ran a test on the the wireless device using PC Doctor, for PCI express status test, it passed, for the wireless connectivity and signal strength test, results showed there was 'no connection', when it comes to network link test, it showed 'internal error', the TCP/IP network connection test showed failed. Then i restarted it and ran the test with the wireless switched off by my self, the PCI express status test passed too, but the remaining four test all showed 'no connection'.
    I really hope if there is someone there to help me out to solve the problem or to enlighten me what the real problem is, could it be software or hardware problem, or could it be other problems like registry or what? I greatly appreciate if anyone can help me to solve this. Thanks alot.

    I have uninstalled my Access Connection, but this problem seems to persist. IBM technician have changed the wireless card of my T60, the first few days after it was changed was very fine, no problem at all. About a week later, the problem occured again, and it happened quite frequently after that occurence. Now i really have no idea what is the cause and how to solve it. Will be greatful if there is anyone that can help me.

  • Call BEX-Query from VBA with BEX-automatic login?

    Hi,
    I'm trying to call a query from VBA. I have two problems/questions:
    1. Automatic login?
    I want to do an automatic login. I found this peace of code here, but I get an error:
    Public Function  LogonToYourBW()
    ' create Logon & RFC-Handle
    logonToBW = False ‘ clear connect Flag the flag can be used to find out if connected or not
        'load SAP functionality by opening BEX file ( use your installation path)
            Workbooks.Open (“c:\sappc\bw\sapbex.xla”)
        With Run("sapbex.xla!sapbexGetConnection") ‘ call the connection
           ' Set the params for Auto logon
           .client = “YOUR CLIENT NO”
           .user = “YOUR BW USER”
           .Password = “YOUR BW PWD” ‘ I recommend to create a dummy reporting user for this task
           .Language = “YOUR LANGUAGE YOU LIKE TO USE FOR QUERY DISPLAY ( i.E.  “EN”)”
           .SystemNumber = “YOUR SYSTEM NO” ‘
           .ApplicationServer = “YOUR SERVER Name OR IP-ADDRESS”
           .UseSAPLOgonIni = FALSE 'important for automatic connection
           .logon 0, True ‘ This will provide a dialog to appear
            If .IsConnected <> 1 Then
                .logon 0, False
                If .IsConnected <> 1 Then Exit Function
            Else
                Set g_oFunction = CreateObject("SAP.Functions")
                Set g_oFunction.Connection = g_oConnection
            End If
        End With
        Run "sapbex.xla!sapbexinitConnection" ‘ this will enable the connection you just created
        logonToBW = True
    End Function
    The error is by this row:
    Set g_oFunction.Connection = g_oConnection
    Object is needed! How is the g_oConnection-object defined?
    2. How can I pass values for the parameters from VBA?
    If I open the query usually from SAP-BEX-Toolbar, after selecting the query, I get a parameter mask, where I must put in a value. How can I this automatize from VBA? Has anybody a short samplecode for that?
    Thank you for your help
    Stefan
    [email protected]

    Peter and others:
    What I really want to do … is write a stand-alone application that I can run from windows scheduler … that queries our BW for sales data for certain items (in a tabular form) … and pulls that data into a VB recordset, or a .NET dataset … so that I can insert the rows into another database (SQL Server, or Access) … I already know how to do all the data movement to/from datasets and databases … I just cannot figure out how to programmatically grab this sales data from BW … our company has “workbooks” already set up that aggregate WW sales information by region (IE, there is a separate workbook for each region of the world) … I can manually go into the Excel interface, tell it which items to pull the sales info for, and it dumps the data into the worksheet (organized by customer, and then by cat #) …
    So, what I’d like to do is write an app that will pull data every week or so from the BW (from each region’s sales invoice detail “workbook”), and insert it into another database that we use for reporting other, non-sales, data.
    Thoughts on this ?  Is there another, non-BEx method that is better ?
    thanks !!

    Perhaps "grep autologin -R /etc /usr/lib" would point you to something.
    -edit-
    Maybe grep for "getty", as apparently "-a" is equivalent to "--autologin".
    -edit-
    Okay. Remove "-a" in the file you pasted.
    -edit-
    You could also remove the symlink and the file it points to and create there a symlink to the file coming with systemd, as your file differs somewhat from what I have.
    ls -l /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/[email protected]
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 38 Jun 21 2012 /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/[email protected] -> /usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]

  • Automatic Login Trouble and Short Name Trouble

    Hello everyone,
    I just got a fresh install of Leopard going on my Macbook (wiped the hard drive during installation instead of just upgrading the OS), but I'm running into a brick wall (two of them, actually).
    First off, for some reason, my Macbook refuses to automatically login. I know this is a good thing in terms of security, but I would really like it to login automatically to save time.
    I also made an error in spelling for my computer's home short name, so it is now sitting here with a capitalization problem. I tried to to change the name through Advanced Options in the Accounts section of the System Preferences, but for some reason, the capitalization won't change. I know that's a pretty minor problem, but I'd still like to fix it.
    Any help that could be sent my way would be deeply appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Arcturus

    If the short name is a problem, reinstall. Changing this name is a nightmare, usually.
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16620
    This will help if you want to try it, but it might fail, or screw things up.
    Trashing "com.apple.loginwindow.plist", you may cure the login problem. It's in your User/Library/Preference folder.
    Did you Migrate anything? If yes, re-migrate from your backup (You have one, right?).

  • Automatic login questions

    i tried to find answers to this, but couldnt find the exact problem in other threads.
    i have 2 users on my iMac. we never shut down, so i dont really care if there is automatic login, but i would rather have it off and start up at the login screen. but is there a way that my wife does not have to enter her password to get into her profile? she just want to click on her icon and be on her profile instead of having to enter a password. it just gets laborious.

    4217
    Hi dutchgenius,
    Now that you have Allan's answer about the situation you don't really care of (as you never shut down),
    here's an answer for your question,
    that is,
    having to enter a password when logging in from one User Account to the other:
    - Unfortunately, the only way is to set her account with no password
    (blank/mouseclick field + blank/mouseclick confirmation field)
    from the start,
    (this way there is not even a login window step)
    although I guess it is also possible to change her password to "blank/mouseclick" in the Accounts preferences
    (not sure in that case there is not still a login window but no more password needed).
    I wouldn't do that even for a standard account, though, oh well,
    but,
    if she has admin powers then no, definitely don't do it.

  • Setup has failed to automatically login to the server ServerMachine

    Hello,
    This error appears when installing the sboclient in a WINXP machine.
    Setup has failed to automatically login to the server <ServerMachine>
    It asks for the userID and Password, and even if I type the correct user and password it doesn't do anything.
    I can access the machine from the windows explorer, it is in a vmware.
    Anyone with the same problem?
    thanks in advance.

    Dear All,
    I was facing the same problem and now it is resolved.
    You should try the same what I did:
    • Browse the SQL Server CD from a client machine.
    • From the Root installation DIR, (SQL2005 in my case) double click "SPLASH.HTA" file.
    • It will ask for Security Warning, click Run.
    • It will pop up a Windows 2005 Server window.
    • Under the Install heading click on "Run the SQL Native Client Installation Wizard"
    • It will again pop up a security warning message. Click "Run"
    • Follow the instructions for installation.
    • Select all the components including SDK if it asks.
    Once it installed, try installing your SAP B1 Client. It must work.
    Best wishes

  • Automatically Login To A WebPage

    Hi Everyone! I'm trying to automatically login to a webpage. I've searched extensively on the web and I know that apache httpclient seems to be the best solution, but for the sake of education, I'd like to do this through solely the built in libraries.
    My code is here , it is a modification (only the parameters have been modified) of the code found here:
    When I run this code it just takes me back to the login page. I believe the problem is with the "login=" part of this parameter (highlighted in the above link)
    <br />
    String content = "login="  +LOGIN_ACTION_NAME+ " &"  +LOGIN_USER_NAME_PARAMETER_NAME+ "="<br />
    +encodedLoginUserName+  "&"  +LOGIN_PASSWORD_PARAMETER_NAME+  "=" + encodedLoginPassword;<br />To the best of my understanding this is unique to the original code's login page php script. The problem is I'm not sure what it should be changed to.
    Thanks for the help!
    TLDR What string do I pass to a .cfm script while posting to it.

    CodeLearnerz wrote:
    Sorry, I accidentally posted that last message long before it was ready. Here it is in full.
    Here's the relevant code, sorry for including the whole thing originally (wasn't sure how to cut it down while still getting the gist of the program across). And no, I'm not doing a GET.
    The basic idea is take the content string (where parameter_names are taken from the html source code: they're the name attribute of the input tags inside the form tag) and write it to an output stream retrieved from the original url. I've left out the housekeeping portions of the code for the sake of brevity (ie URLConnection.setDoOutput(true) and urlConnection.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", POST_CONTENT_TYPE) ).
    String TARGET_URL = "http://bowl.classicproducts.com/login.cfm"
    urlConnection = (HttpURLConnection)(new URL(targetUrl).openConnection());
    dataOutputStream = new DataOutputStream(urlConnection.getOutputStream());
    String content = "login=" + LOGIN_ACTION_NAME +" &" + LOGIN_USER_NAME_PARAMETER_NAME +"="
    + encodedLoginUserName + "&" + LOGIN_PASSWORD_PARAMETER_NAME + "=" + encodedLoginPassword;
    dataOutputStream.writeBytes(content);
    dataOutputStream.flush();
    dataOutputStream.close();
    Note that nothing is actually sent to the server until you invoke urlConnection.getInputStream() which I don't see you doing in the above. The whole thing above is a no-op from the server's perspective because you never sent anything to it, unless there's more code that does it that you didn't post here.
    All of which would be mitigated better if you'd just use the HttpClient rather than reinventing the wheel.

  • Archiso Automatic Login Issue

    Hello everyone,
    I've been using Fedora for quite some time now and recently planned to move to Arch. Somehow, I'm not able to install the latest ISO available for download - 2013.01.04. It freezes after the below prompts:
    Arch Linux 3.6.11-1-ARCH (tty1)
    archiso login: root (automatic login)
    [ OK ] Started Login Service.
    [ OK ] Reached Target Sound Card.
    I've tried installations with ISOs from Nov'12-Jan'13 and all of them just pause indefinitely after the above messages. I'm using Dell Studio 1458 with Intel Core i3 processor. Please let me know if there's anything I could provide to better understand the problem (ls{pci,usb}, etc).
    I've searched within forum for any existing topics on this issue but could not find definitive solutions. There are a few wiki entries on Dell laptops and I tried looking into them for possible solutions but to no avail.
    I'm keen on learning and open to suggestions. Thanks for your help.

    You may be better off tying to make a usbkey and boot from it - the way to do it is to plug the key in from a running linux box, and if you have the archiso at /path/to/iso then do as root on the unmounted usbkey: dd bs=4M if=/path/to/iso of=/dev/sdX where sdX is the device for your key. See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/US … tion_Media
    unetbootin won't work as the iso has a special hybrid partitioning scheme. If you boot the key as per the recommended method I gave in the paragraph above, then it should give you a graphical screen with the options for installing 32 or 64 bit and a few other options.
    On all machines where I have had problems booting various usbkeys this is the one way I have never had a problem - however for machines with optimus graphics I believe that under linux you are best off switching off the nvidia part... those who I know who have optimus have not been able to get it working with dual graphics under linux though I suppose there may be a few users who have managed to get it working?
    Hope this helps.

  • WebDav rejects password on automatic login, but works on manual login

    I had iCal working on my wedDav server pretty well (publish and subscrinign to it) in 10.3.8. I upgraded my OS to 10.4 and now webDav rejects password on automatic login, but works on manual login. This bug occurs when the iCal goes to publish, subscribing works just fine.
    G5

    I have a similar problem. I have a dual 1.8 Tower at home and a PBG4 that I travel around with. I use .mac syncing to keep both the desktop and the PB up to date (syncing is set to "automatic" on both). I publish my personal appointments to a private server via webdav. Everything (server, user/pass, etc) store fine and publishing is fine...
    then .mac syncs my two computers, as I instructed it to do, and after that, the published calendars fail to automatically update. I have to go in to "change location" and put my password for the webdav server BACK in.
    Every.
    Single.
    Time.
    If anyone knows what causes this and better yet, how to resolve this issue... I'd love to hear!

  • All my automatic logins no longer work

    There are various sites where I have always been 'permanently' online - i.e. I never have to login, and each time I activate a link to that site, I'm there. For example, Twitter, Amazon, various hobby or discussion forums, etc.
    The last two or three days, this has all changed - clicking a stored link takes me either to the page I expect to be (but in a 'not logged in' state), or to the site's default login screen. In other words, I have to login EVERYWHERE! (Yes, I always have to re-login to these Apple Discussions after closing the window, but that's always been the case, and I'm not including that in this problem).
    Gradually I am using Autofill (Passwords) to provide me with a one-click solution to this, but better still would be not having to login at all, i.e. revert to my permanently logged in status for those sites where it has always been true.
    I have in the past Reset Safari.., but these days I only choose to Clear Cache and Cookies. Neither of these have ever affected whether automatic logins work, so that's not the cause of this problem.
    Any idea why this has happened? What can I do to cure it?

    Hi,
    Quit Safari.
    Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left.
    Delete all the keychains for the sites you mentioned.
    Relaunch Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Make sure *User names and passwords* is selected.
    Navigate to a site. Type in your user name and password. You will be prompted to save that data to a new keychain. Next time you re visit that site, it should "autofill" for you.
    If that didn't help, open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
    Move the com.apple.keychainaccess.plist file to the Trash. Restart your Mac. Launch Safari and try logging in to a site again.
