Automatic marking of used clips

hello there,
When i start a project and load many clips via log/transfer into the browser,
is there a way or a setting you can do in order you can see in this browser
which clips has been used /not used in the timeline. i have used adobe premiere
a long time ago and i can remember that clips and audio files automatically will be marked as
soon as they are dragged into the timeline.Sometimes the project is quite long
and it takes days/weeks to finish a project and after a while it can occur that
you forget which clips has been used or not, so then i have to go back a search
in the timeline if a partically clip has been used.

Typically I load all the clips I think I will use into the browser. When I'm done I always have a lot that never got used. Is there a way in FCP to automatically copy all used clips to a different folder so I can backup the whole project to a new hard drive?

Go to the manual and start reading about Media Manager. It'll do what you want but you've got to know what you're doing before you use it.

You can capture the complete clip and then apply Mark > DV Start/Stop Detect over the captured clip. You could get the best of two worlds so: smooth capture and clips creation.

Marking used clips in browser

anyone know if there's a button to reveal used clips in the timeline so they show up as used in the browser? Cannot find a function.

Did you try the searching dialog box? (Command-F)
Select your option for searching "used" media.
See user's manual (help menu) at page 228 and ss .
Once you got the results simply create a new folder in browser and transfer "used" file to it.

Interaction enabled on dimensional columns though not marked as Use for display

Hi,
I am facing issue with few of the dimensional columns in OBI 11g. Drill down property is enabled for few columns which are not marked as Use for Display or added to any hierarchy level.
Clicking on these columns is drilling down to the next lower lever. we can avoid this by setting a system wide defaults but not allowed to do that.
Any other suggestions to overcome the issue?

Any dimensional attribute column residing on a higher level of aggregation will automatically render the drill-down to its next lower-level child.
"Use for display" defines the attribute(s) displayed by default after a drill and is used to populate the property of the (default) displayed presentation column in a presentation hierarchy.
So you are experiencing standard, desired behaviour. Removing that interaction will necessitate setting system-wide defaults.

Camcorder download does not automatically split into individual clips

I downloaded four DV tapes recorded on my Canon ZR40 (seven years old) DV camcorder.
When downloading two of the four tapes, no individual clips were created; I got one big clip. On the other two tapes, they were broken down into scenes normally.
Am I doing something wrong? (Timecode checkmark is selected)
Can you instruct PRE to automatically break one large clip into individual scenes once it is already on the disk? How?

I always use DVdate by Glagla to capture my DV clips. The clips can be named according to shooting time and date, giving two advantages:
1. Clips from several tapes will sort by shooting time in PE media panel.
2. Shooting time and date is visible within PE.
If it works on your tapes forget about capturing with PE.

Messages automatically marked as read in yahoo and unread in Mail

I typically use yahoo.com to view/read my yahoo mail, but I would like the option of viewing in Mail as well. However, when I launch my Mail account, all messages remain "unread" (whether I've read them or not in yahoo.com). And when I go to my yahoo.com account after opening Mail, all messages (whether I've read them or not in Mail) are automatically marked as "read". This is extremely frustrating as I would like both Mail and yahoo.com to reflect read and unread emails appropriately.
I do not have this problem when I use the Mail app on my iPhone.
Please help! Thank you!

UPDATE: In addition to all mail being marked as "unread" in yahoo.com, most messages older than a few days old are also deleted. They still appear in Mail, but I need to read them in yahoo.com as well. In addition, Mail does not contain the folders from yahoo.com, so all messages appear in Mail as one big "unread" mess in my inbox. Again, these issues are not a problem with the iPhone app. Thank you!

Email with Mail Rules applied are automatically marked as read

I am using Mail in Mac OS X 10.5 with Gmail IMAP, and any email I receive that has a mail rule applied to it (such as, if person x emails me move email to this folder) is automatically marked as read (i.e., doesn't show up as a new message). Any email that comes into the Inbox, however, is marked as new.
The mail folder I am testing this with does not have the "mark email as read" rule applied to it, yet it keeps marking any email that goes through this rule as read. Also, no new mail sound plays after receiving these emails. In Tiger, even when an email was automatically marked as read by mail rules, it made the new mail sound.
I don't know if this is a Mac OS X Mail issue or a Gmail IMAP issue, but it's frustrating as all edit: I guess he-double-hockey sticks is a four letter word]. Is anyone having this issue and does anyone have a solution?

For me, it never counted it as new. It would just appear.
I deleted the Mail preference file and that seemed to fix some things, even though it did require me to re-setup Mail almost entirely. This morning, though, I got an email from my girlfriend that did not filter at all, even though the email address she sent from is in a rule. Might be an isolated incident, though.

View used clips

Is there a way to identify which clips have been used in an edit (and not from the file browser on the left of the timeline)? With a large project I want a quick way to see if I have used a clip on my timeline or not. See attachment.
I want the clips in the timeline (GREEN) to show that they have been used in the clip window (BLUE).

To have this facility, you need to get into the habit of marking all clips you have used for your project with either favorite or any keyword tags.
If you have not done so and would like to do it now, then you need to select each clip on the timeline and via a right click seek the portion of clip used in the 'reveal in event browser'...this will show the portion of clip you have used in the event browser, and you can now press 'F' or opt to give it a keyword.
Once you have tagged all 'used clips' in this manner, you need to do this:
Look at the option for clips displayed in the event browser...at the top left of the event browser [marked within the red oval]. When you press the arrows at the end of 'all clips' the present selection in the above image, you get the dropdown menu below:
In this menu you have to select 'No ratings or Keywords'. Once you select this option, you will have this in your event browser:
only those [unmarked] clips which you have not used.

How do I use clipping mask to cover unwanted background?

I'm practicing illustrator myself. I have a book for illustrator hoping it would show me step by step on how to use the masks to take away any unwanted background in a photo but it didn't do that. Can anyone teach me how or show me where to look for the information on how to use the clipping masks or other type of masks? I went to the adobe workshop video to look for the answer but it didn't show exactly as what i want to know. The image i'm practicing on is a family photo and i want to isolate everything to just one person in the photo so how can I do that using clipping mask? Thanks!!

I've set the new ID for the phone, but it defaults to the old one when asking for a password to update apps.

That's because all apps are forever tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them, & can only be updated using that ID.
To use your new ID with these apps, you'll have to delete them, then repurchase. Or, contact iTunes support, explain the situation, & ask that they add these apps to the download queue of your new ID.

If you have access to an Analogue-DV converter you can use that. Also a DV camcorder which has Analogue IN.
If you have Final Cut Pro installed, you will have the QT component.

What is the benefit of using clipping paths for a knock out?

I found a posting saying they need someone to knock out the background of a lot of images using clipping paths. My question is, WHY use a clipping path? I know the rule of not using a selection tool such as the Magic Wand and then turning it into a clipping path and I know why that is. But if all is needed is for the background to be knocked out, why can't we just use the selection tool in the first place and just knock out the background from there? What is the benefit of that clipping mask?

Usually the term Clipping Path refers to turning a path into a clipping path (in the paths panel) for use in older programs such as PageMaker that don't support transparency.
For example if one wanted to import a file into PageMaker and only have a certain part of the document visible, one would make a path (or selection) around the object
and turn the path (or selection) into a clipping path. Sorta the same results you see in photoshop using a layer mask or vector mask.
Also clipping paths are used in certain printing workflows.
Without seeing the posting it's hard to say what they meant and in photoshop 6 vector masks were labeled as Layer Clipping Paths not to be confused with real clipping paths.
Old versions of photoshop also used the term Group With Previous to denote Create Clipping Mask.
