Automatic Metadata addition to PDF documents + XMP Templates in Acrobat 6/7

I am currently looking to info up a large filing structure which currently holds about 10 000 PDFs. Is there anyway to update metadata on multiple PDF files at once?
Is there a way to save Metadata templates in Acrobat 6/7?
Thanks,
Tom

Apache Fop http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/ takes an xml file and combines with an xsl stylesheet to create a PDF. (Although we are using a .net verion FONET). This is a problem with Adobe Reader 7.0. I cannot upload a file since the material is highly confidential (a criminal record!) I can confirm that this has been tested on several machines. The PDF is valid and can be opened in Adobe Reader versions 6, 8, 9 and Foxit but not Reader 7. I can only assume that there is something in the generated PDF that Reader 7 does not like and perhaps this is a bug since the PDF can be opened in earlier and later verions but not 7!

  • Attaching additional BLOB pdf document to an email snet by BIP Bursting

    Hi,
    I am trying to attach an additional pdf document which is stored in the database as a BLOB to an email that is sent via BIP bursting. I am using Oracle Applications v11.5.10.2. Does anyone have any input on how to do this or if its possible? Basically, I am generating a BIP report and sending it in an email using the Bursting process within BIP, but I want to attach an additional .pdf document to the same email. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Dynamic Delivery Content
    You can reference information in the XML data to be put into the delivery content. This
    takes the same format described above (that is, ${ELEMENT}).
    For example, suppose you wanted to burst a document to employees via e-mail and
    personalize the e-mail by using the employee's name in the subject line. Assuming the
    employee's name is held in an element called ENAME, you could use ${ENAME} to
    reference the employee's name in the control file as follows:
    subject="Employee Details for ${ENAME}"
    Sample Control File
    The following sample control file shows an example control file to split data based on
    an EMPLOYEE element and send an e-mail to each employee with their own data. The
    sample file is annotated.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xapi:requestset xmlns:xapi="[http://xmlns.oracle.com/oxp/xapi]">
    <xapi:request select="/EMPLOYEES/EMPLOYEE"><! - This sets the bursting
    element i.e., EMPLOYEE - >

    from="[[email protected]|mailto:[email protected]]" reply-to ="[[email protected]|mailto:[email protected]]">
    <xapi:message id="123" to="${EMAIL}" cc="${EMAIL_ALL}"
    attachment="true" subject="Employee Details
    for ${ENAME}"> Mr. ${ENAME}, Please review the
    attached document</xapi:message><! - This assigns a delivery id
    of '123'. It also sets the e-mail
    address of the employee and a cc copy to a parameter value
    EMAIL_ALL; this might be a manager's e-mail. The employee's
    name (ENAME) can also be used in the subject/body
    of the email. - ></xapi:email>
    </xapi:delivery>
    <xapi:document output-type="pdf" delivery="123">
    <xapi:template type="rtf" location="/usr/tmp/empGeneric.rtf">
    <xapi:template type="rtf" location="/usr/tmp/empDet.rtf"

  • Inserting objects from one PDF document to another in Acrobat XI

    When I copy objects using "Edit Text & Images" and insert it to another document, objects are insert in any place of document, but when document "A" have view "Fit to screen" and document "B" have same view and I copy object from A and insert  to B, object in B will insert to same place (exact) how it was in A. It works fine in Acrobat 9, 10. It didn't work in Acrobat XI (11.0.3). Does any know how to fix it?

    The PDF template we need to copy the form fields "to" doesn't start out having any form fields. It is the fields that we need copied from a previous year's PDF template.
    Here's an except from my original post: "I am looking for a way to copy the form fields from an existing PDF document (last year's PDF in our case) and copy the form fields into a new PDF document (that does not yet have any form fields defined)"
    The "new" PDF template is a complete "paper" form with updated legal text and calendar year referrences but NO form fields. In our IS group, we then take these forms, add form fields to them and are then able to populate them with database-resident user data. We serve them up to the user in their browser pre-populated with their application data.
    So again, our need is to find a way to copy form fields from "last year's" PDF template and copy just the form fields to an fresh "new year's" PDF template that contains no form fields to begin with. What we begin with is just a PDF representation of a paper student loan application.
    Thanks for the suggestion!

  • Reading PDF documents from Web pages, Acrobat vs. Preview

    When I encounter Web pages with PDF document links, I'd like to open them using the Adobe Acrobat application, not Preview. I haven't found a way to change the behavior of the Mac OS to permit me to set the default app.
    I did find a way to change the default app to open PDF documents on the hard drive (though I can't recall where I found this feature), but it has no effect when I click links in Web pages.
    By the way, I'm using Firefox as my default browser, not Safari.
    How do I change the behavior? Is there a better support forum than this one?
    Thanks.
    Jerry

    I think you need this Firefox Add-on for handling PDFs in Firefox;
    PDF Download
    Allows to choose if you want to view a PDF file inside the browser (as PDF or HTML), if you want to view it outside Firefox with your default or custom PDF reader, or if you want to download it!
    I was reminding you how you set files to use certain programs because you said you forgot how.

  • How to get a tree-oriented view of a pdf document's sections in Acrobat 8 Professional?

    Hi, I have a PDF that has a document outline (with table of contents etc.). This may be a stupid question, but in earlier versions of Acrobat Reader -- I used to be able to get a navigation panel that showed the sections in a tree-form that made it easy to jump to a given section. I now have the Acrobat 8 pro.. and when I read PDF's with it, I do NOT get this tree-oriented view.. but just a thumbnail or page oriented view. How can I get the other view?
    Thanks,
    -Sundar

    Well.. the contents page seems ok, and when I click on the lines in the contents page, Adobe takes me to the right spot. Others (w/ earlier versions of Acrobat) also are able to see the outine. I have to conclude that perhaps pro8 is just broken. (I guess I have to talk to someone to figure out how I can get my reader back.. because right now even the reader launches Acrobat Pro..). Sigh.

  • Please Help!! Links to other PDF documents in my PDF document open in Adobe Acrobat Professional but NOT Adobe Reader XI

    Hi everyone,
    I really hope someone can help me with this problem. I work for a software company and we have a release coming up. Every release requires me to create a 'menu' which is what users see when they insert the release CD. I create this menu in Adobe Acrobat Professional, and add links to all the PDF manuals we have for our products. When I open the Menu in Acrobat Professional, all links open fine. When just attempting to open the links using the default Adobe Reader (which i'm guessing most of our customers will use), nothing happens, not even an error is generated. I'm ensuring I link to the documents that reside in the same folder on my directory as the menu. Is this something to do with relative/absolute links? Something to do with Reader XI, as I don't remember having this problem for our last release? Foxit also seems to work in opening the links.
    Thanks

    I’m using version 11.0.10. So where the Menu resides in a folder ready to be burnt on to a CD, that same folder is where the links point to.
    Thanks

  • Fscommand is not working when opening PDF document in browser with Acrobat 9, why?

    We embedded a flash application in PDF using screen annotation. In the flash we use fscommand to call methods available in AcroJS.  In acrobat reader 9, if we view the document in Internet Explorer, we receive a security sandbox violation message saying that it cannot make fscommand calls to <unknown> (allowScriptAccess is ). But when we open the document in Firefox, it works fine.

    Have a read of this article on the web:
    http://www.actionscript.org/resources/articles/99/1/FS-Command-JavaScript-Library/Page1.ht ml
    The part that caught my eye was the following:
    "...These methods will not work with Internet Explorer on Macs. This lack of functionality is a brower issue with communication with plugins and cannot be resolved by anyone except MicroSoft. "
    I wonder if the same is true for Windows?

  • Automatically creating non-interactive PDF forms from XML data

    Hi All,
    I am a newbie to the whole Adobe LifeCycle Designer product and have been trying to find a definitive technical article on a way to automatically create pdf documents from template forms using XML data. I can create the XML, I can create the form based on the XML schema but I can't seem to find anything which explains how to automatically associate the form with the each xml file that I create and produce a pdf document based on the xml data.
    The project I am working involves creating marketing brochures, driven from our enterprise databases, to be sent to a printer. No user interaction is required, and I estimate that we'll need to create around 500-1000 pdf's per day.
    To me this seems like it should be quite a simple task but I can't find anything which gives me a starting point.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Nick Smith

    Hi Nick,
    Just curious if you figured out how to generate a PDF out of a template? I've a similar requirement where I transform XML schemas into templates, convert the template into a PDF document, and at run time bind the PDF with the form data.
    To sort of answer your question of how to bind an XML instance file to a form, if that form is an XML-FORM, then all you'd need to do is open that document as a PDF document using the PDFFactory, and invoke the importFormData() method on it, passing the XML instance as the input stream.
    The harder part though is getting the PDF out of the template in the first place, without using any adobe user interface period.

  • Current Date on PDF Document

    I have a current pdf document created in Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Professional. At the bottom of each page, I would like for the current date to be displayed whenever someone prints a copy of the document. Can anyone give me an easy way to do this? I added a footer thinking originally that it would automatically update to the current date but I see that it doesn't. It just displays the date of the last update. Thanks.

    First, Reader can not add form form fields or water mark by JavaScirpt. This means one can not add a watermark reliably before printing, so one needs to use a form field, and that form field needs to exist before the PDF is opened by Reader. You need to add a 'read only' form field to each page of the PDF and if you give them all the same name, you only need to change the value of one of the form fields. There is no way to add a footer by JavaScript.
    There are a number of ways to change the value of the field before printing so if you want the date the form was sent to the printer, you will use the 'Will Print' document action to change the value of the field which will cause the field to be updated when any 'print' is requested from Acrobat's menu, Acrobat's tool bar, or an added button field. And you will have to add a custom JavaScript that obtains the date object, formats the date object,  and sets the value of your field object.
    The referenced link is to JavaScript that adds the field and the necessary JavaScript to work.
    You can cut and paste the following into the script for the 'Will Print' action:
    // get the field
    var field = this.getField("PrintField");
    // get the date object
    var odate = new Date();
    // format the date
    var cDate = util.printd('mmm d, yyyy', oDate)
    // set the field value
    field.value = "THIS DOCUMENT WAS PRINTED ON "+ + cDate;

  • Convert virtually any CAD file into a PDF document .

    Can Acrobat X Pro Convert virtually any CAD file into a PDF document using templates?
    Earlier Acrobat 9 Pro Extended used to be ?

    In the latest version of Acrobat the grammer was added to allow embedding a swf file. Unfortunately the Designer (the tools for getting the swf in there) lags behind and will be there in a future release. So if you really want this you must do it by hand and it will only work in Acrobat/Reader 10.
    Here is a blog entry that describes how to do it:

    How can you create a writable PDF document from a PPT presentation ? Upper part with the image , lower part with a free space in order to take notes for students during presentation or course.
    Thanks.

    You can make a PDF file out of you notes and handouts but using the Adobe PDF printer.
    Open your PowerPoint Document then go to “File” “Print”
    Select ‘Adobe PDF” Printer
    Under slides, select which way you want to print. Note it will not print to a printer but to a PDF file.
    After then go into printer Properties and Setup PDF properties, do the following: (see second image below)
    Default: PDF/A 1-b
    Adobe Security: none (change as needed)
    Adobe Output folder: Prompt for Adobe file name
    Adobe Page size: Letter (change as needed)
    Check the following check boxes
    View Adobe PDf Results,
    Add Document Information,
    Rely on system fonts only,
    Delete Log files for successful jobs.
    Select OK
    A pop will ask you where you want to save the document. The file extension should be PDF. After giving the file name select okay and the file should popup as a PDF. Down side is if you want to speaker notes included then you will have to do another file, like wise with just screen shots then combine into one PDF document.
    I used Acrobat IX Pro. So to do this you need Acrobat IX or X Pro.
    Hope this will help.

  • Acrobat 9 ReduceFileSize chokes on PPT PDF document

    Hi folks,
    just printed a .ppt file created w/ MS PowerPoint 2008 Mac to disk (as .pdf document). When I tried to reduce the file size of this .pdf in Acrobat Pro 9.3, an error msg came up:
    "An error was encountered while processing images."
    Now I reopened that same .ppt file w/ MS PowerPoint 2004 Mac and printed it to disk (as .pdf document). When I tried to reduce the file size of this .pdf document w/ the same Acrobat app, the process was successful. Any clues?
    Why can't Acrobat 9.3 reduce the file size of .pdf documents that were originally created with PPT2008, but is able to do so if the .pdf is derived from PPT2004???

    HI Hamu
    Thanks for your response. I spent way too much time on this today compared to what it was worth, and your post was similar to another that I found. I followed some of the advice for using the optimiser from the following URL and was able to optimise the document from about 3 Mb to 1.5 Mb without the optimiser choking. Give it a go...
