Automatic monitor calibration with NVidia GT 120 and ATI 4870

I am considering purchase of a Mac Pro to use with a LaCie monitor and the Blue Eye Pro calibrator / software. Auto calibration of the monitor is possible if the calibrator / software can communicate directly via the graphics cards with the monitor. DDC CI - a communication standard is used for this. My question is are these cards able to use this standard.
I have tried Apple Service and Support by telephone and I have tried to find information on the NVidia and ATI websites without success. Neither site seems to provide a way to email such a question to them.
I am surprised that Apple are unable to provide information of this type to help a prospective purchaser.
Has anyone any advice or or experience to offer me - it would be gratefully received!

Have you asked Blu Eye?

  • Duel Monitor Calibration with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT

I have ordered a Mac Pro with a NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT and would like to know whether it supports dual LUT's? I have also ordered two 30" ACDs and would like them both calibrated for photo editing work in Aperture.
Looked at the NVIDIA site but couldn't see the answer.
    Many thanks...

In short, no. The only way to get a LUT for each monitor is for each to have its own GPU. Having said that, I have the Radeon 1900XT driving 2-21" LCDs and have managed to get them really darn close with a good calibrator. If it's really important for you, buy a second card.
This is from the Nvidia knowledge base and the answer is the same for Macs.
+"Windows XP detects NVIDIA GPUs as a single processor even if the GPU supports dual monitors. This prevents the operating system from natively allowing two separate ICC profiles from being used on a single graphics card. This is not a problem if a user is running dual monitors and each monitor is running on a separate GPU.+
+Microsoft has provided a utility for users with two monitors running off of a single GPU who wish to calibrate both monitors. You may download this utility from the following URL:+

  • "monitor calibration software" "LCD color management and conversion" is defective.

My photoshop is not working and A message pops up saying to rerun monitor calibration software. How do I do this?

Which calibration tool are you using? With my Spyder4Elite it's just about running a recalibration with its software...

  • Silent monitoring calls with CUCM 6.0 and UCCX 5.0

    Dear all,
We have just integrated a 3rd party recording solution in our VoIP system, which consists of CUCM 6.0 and UCCX 5.0.
Until now we used the recording and monitoring solution of the UCCX for the agents. This worked ok.
But, as we wanted to record other people's calls and also the outgoing calls of the agents, we have created for them a Recording profile in the CCM and assign it to the agents phone.
We have also mantained the recording and monitoring active for them in the UCCX.
What is happenning now is the following:
    - The 3rd party recordings works perfectly.
    - The recording in the UCCX gets only one way audio.
    - The silent monitoring gets only one way audio.
    - If the 3rd party recording server is stopped, but the recording profile is stil active in the phones, the silent monitoring in the UCCX works.
Could any of you confirm if using a 3rd party recording solution the monitoring still works?
Is there any 3rd party silent monitoring software?
    Thanks in advcance.
    Best regards,
    Amaia

We've got to delimit the problem.
When we use 3rd party recording solution there are 4 RTP flows: 1 incoming to monitored/recorded phone and 3 flows outgoing.
    1 incoming RTP flows
    - voice of remote phone
    3 outgoing RTP flows
    - voice of monitored/recorded phone
    - voice of monitored/recorded phone sent to 3d party recording server
    - voice of remote phone sent to 3rd party recording server
When we use a network analyzer we see that the agent running in the PC (UCCX 5.0) establishes two RTP flows for the monitoring session. But we can see that one of these flows sends 3 packet RTP per 1 packet RTP sent in the other RTP flow (in the same time).
We think agent sends to monitoring device all the outoing RTP packets of the phone (that belong to three different RTP flows), instead of sending only the RTP packets belonging to voice of monitored/recorded phone.
The other flow, voice of remote phone, sounds fine.
Is there a solution to avoid this problem when we monitor with UCCX 5.0 and record with a 3rd party software at the same time?
    Thanks,
    Christian

Does anyone know if this looks like a hardware issue or a driver (drm) probelm? Very old card so sort of expecting it to be hardware related.
Strangely I can clear the problem and get into X by fsking the discs from Ubuntu recovery console (dual booting the two) - just thinking whether there's a lock file somewhere not getting cleaned up or something?

I confirm this. I have the same card (NV17 [GeForce4 MX 440]), and I get random lockups with the nouveau driver and a recent kernel. It's probably a memory handling problem in the DRM driver.

  • NVIDIA GeForce 120 or ATI Radeon X1900... which is better?

    Hi-
I currently have the ATI Radeon X1900 graphics card installed in my Mac Pro 2.26 Nehalem. I'm not having any issue's with the card except that the fans turn On quite frequently, and they're a little loud.
I'm not using it for any games, etc... My primary use is with Pro Tools (a music DAW application).
The ATI Radeon X1900 is running a Apple 30" display and a Sony Bravia 46" LCD.
If I replaced the ATI Radeon X1900 with a NVIDIA GeForce 120, would I be asking for trouble?
    Thanks in advance.

If I replaced the ATI Radeon X1900 with a NVIDIA GeForce 120, would I be asking for trouble?
If your Mac Pro came with ATI Radeon X1900, then it needs a card with EFI-32 firmware. The NVIDIA GeForce 120 has EFI-64 firmware, and won't work in the pre 2008 Mac Pro. The only upgrade for early Mac Pros is the ATI Radeon HD 4870

  • 10.6.4 Combo Update - Kernel Panic on 1st Gen Mac Pro with 8GB and ATI 4870

    Hi,
I installed the 10.6.4 combo update last night and now my system constantly kernel panics. It was fine with 10.6.3 for months and never kernel panicked.
    I have 4 x 2GB FB-Dimms and a ATI 4870 card.
The system is also only showing one display and I can force it to kernel panic by going to system preferences and selecting 'Detect Displays'.
Anyone got any suggestions before I reinstall back to 10.6.3?
    Thanks
    Paul

Hey guys. I have got a new Macbook Pro 13" model and I am getting kernel panics. I've been trying to partition the drive for Boot Camp and after I updated yesterday (to 10.6.4) i've been getting the kernel panic sign. Also, when I boot from my Snow Leopard disk to go into Disk Utility to repair the permissions (I opened Onyx and on the SMART check it said the permissions needed to be reset) I get a kernel panic and it crashes! So at the moment i've just backed up my work and I am panicking myself as I have no idea what to do from here.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • MSI Neo2 FR and ATI 4870

does anybody have a similar setup? i seem to be having problems getting my system to boot with a ATI 4870 in, i have tried everything. i even purchased a new PSU but i'm still getting the same result, has anybody came across a problem like this before with this board?
i dont really see why it would be causing a problem as my current 8000GT runs fine on the board :(
    much thx

    hi thx for the reply
as far as the board goes its a MSI Neo2 FR this is the one http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&prod_no=1261
when i try to boot with the HD4870 in i get and error and going by the lights on the board it would be a problem with the graphics interface, green, red, red, red, i replace the card with my old 8800GT and the system boots fine. i know theres nothing wrong with the ATI 4870 card as its been sent back to the place i bought it from and tested and seems to be fine :/
edit: i also have the latest bois which is v1.10

  • NVidia GT 120 and intermittent low frame-rate with Expose, Dashboard...

I have an iMac early 2009 with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 (256 Mo) graphic card.
I have intermittent low frame-rate problems with Expose, Dasboard and several other large animations...
For example, when I trigger Expose or Dashboard, the animation may sometimes be choppy (with few intermediate images) to very choppy (practically no intermediate images)...
The second after, the same animation may feature a very high frame-rate...
Neither Apple diagnostic tool nor TechTool Deluxe finds any hardware problem.

I have the same iMac, and also have this same problem.
When I first activate Dashboard, the animation is choppy. If I activate it several times in a row very quickly, the animation smooths out noticeably. It's as though the video card is asleep, or cycled down, and then wakes up and springs into action.
This is testable. If I run the command line utility OpenCL Bench immediately following a restart, my iMac's GT 120 gives a time of 14 seconds. If I open iTunes, turn on the visualizer, and then run OpenCL Bench again, the GT 120 gives a time of 1.7 seconds! If I turn off the visualizer, wait a few seconds, and re-run OpenCL Bench, the GT 120's time increases to 5.6 seconds.
The same performance increase/decrease shows up with Dashboard. If I open Dashboard with the iTunes Visualizer running, right off the bat, Dashboard's animation is very smooth. If I turn off the visualizer and wait about 30 seconds, Dashboard's animation is back to choppy.
This is not dependent on the iTunes Visualizer. I can have the "OpenCL Procedural Grass and Terrain Example" running, for example, and get the same results from OpenCL Bench and Dashboard.

  • How do I set one monitor calibration for the whole system and users?

I'm really angry because when I logged into my first default account, My settings where normal, but I logged into my alt account, the settings where all messed up (NO ONE TOUCHED MY COMPUTER, AND THE ACCOUNT HAS A STRONG PASSWORD) The white balance was that slightly blue one. So, I changed it, and logged in to the alt account again to see it was okay. I want to my main account and used screenlock, and noticed on the login screen (I logged out of the account after I saw to see this same thing) it was the light bluer white balance. So I logged in and calibrated AGAIN and it finally when back to the default on the login screen (2:2 or something and native white balance) and my preferences for my accounts (television gamma, and native white balance) I just want it system wide to be:
    -2:2 TELEVISION GAMMA
    -Native White Gamma
Or at-least the login screen, and my two accounts, and that settings to be the system wide default.

Thanks for helping me make it worse.
First off, if you want help, act like an adult. We're all just other users you're talking to, not Apple employees. Such angry behavior will only ensure that no one will respond to any questions by you in the future.
Second, there's nothing wrong with Kappy's advice. The /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder is accessible by all user accounts. So putting one common monitor profile there and setting it in each account is what you want to do.
What you're seeing is a known issue when switching users without restarting. I don't know if there's ever been a true solution for it.
One of many articles on the subject:

  • Problems with Nvidia GeForce 210 and windows 8.1

Hi all, I have Windows 8.1 Pro update 1 64bit installed, two weeks ago I started giving problems graphics card NVidia (even has me
    given several blue screen).
I tried to update the drivers for the card but I got the same problem. It was working properly with generic
drivers, and if I went to Computer Administrator me a yellow triangle appeared
on my graphics card and the properties told me the following:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
    (Code 43 )
    My machine is as follows:
    Mainboard : Asus P5K SE
    Chipset: Intel P31/P35
    Processor : Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2400MHz
    Physical Memory : 3072MB (3 x 1024 DDR2- SDRAM)
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
    Hard Disk : Seagate ST3320620AS ATA Device (320GB )
    Monitor Type: LG Electronics L1919S
    I just formatted
     the computer from scratch, and
I still had the same problem with the graphics card,
so I imagined it would be a hardware problem
    and bought NVIDIA GeForce 210.
    In the end I
upgraded to Windows 8.1 update 1 with
the latest drivers for the GeForce 210,
and after 6 days running everything correctly, a few days ago
    returned to give me problems,
the screen sometimes freezes and will not
let me do anything and after a while
giving me a blue screen and reboots
me, I suspect that the graphics drivers
are giving me problems, and I had to
disable the graphics card and work with
generic drivers from Microsoft, and even then I
    was restarted once.
I installed Driver Booster and all the drivers are updated.
    Could
     anyone analyze
dump files dmp ? Download here
    I got another dmp:
C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP  but it is too heavy.
    Thanks

yes, I check the dump files
this cause by graphic card, on which graphic card you reformat your PC and update
.NET framework maybe cause this driver corrupted
my suggestion is try using internal graphic card, just for testing
Just in case you don't believe me, please check this dump file

  • OT: Monitor calibration with a gradient/varying values

This is sort of off topic, but maybe someone knows. I bought a new LCD monitor which I thought was a reasonably decent quality. I did the regular Apple calibration. But the monitor clearly has more contrast at the top, and less at the bottom. I can see the difference in color with a solid color PS document, and in the contrast of the icons in my dock etc. This isn't an issue of my viewing angle, if I change my viewing angles the top is still darker and the bottom lighter, relative to each other.
Is there any screen calibration software that can make a "map" of the screen and adjust contrast across the screen vertically and/or horizontally?

    No, there isn't.
That sounds like you may have a bad monitor (possibly somethign wrong with the backlight on one side).

  • Xorg configuration with nvidia 6800gs agp and flatron l222wt

  • Driving 3 displays with a GT 120 and x1900

I just purchased the latest quad mac pro and it came with the GeForce GT 120. I currently run 3 monitors so looked to eBay for a inexpensive option. My main monitor is a older ADC cinema display, 22" I believe...with the other 2 being smaller off brand 19" LCD displays.
Anyway - I bought the Radeon x1900 on eBay and didn't realize I needed a PCI-e power cable, is this correct? Unfortunately it did not come with the cable.
Also, I read somewhere that the GT120 and x1900 had problems running in the same machine. Is this true, anyone else have this issue or using the same configuration? All I wanted was a basic card for the two monitors....I plan to upgrade the Cinema Display and the graphics card one day...but hopefully this will be fine for now....am I better off running the same brand of graphics cards to drive 3 or more displays?
    Any thoughts?

I've seen these for as low as $2.99 but here's one in-stock

  • [SOLVED]Getting Dual Monitors To With Nvidia Cards Under Arch

Just got a second monitor and I am trying to set it up to work with arch.
I have 2 nvidia cards with 1 monitor plugged into each.
    Reading through the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DualScreen
    When I try
    xrandr -q
    after downloading and installing:
    pacman -S xorg-xrandr arandr
    I get the message:
    RandR extension missing
So not sure what is going on here... (***EDIT: Worked after rebooting***)
    Output for:
    xrandr -q
    is:
    Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1200, maximum 16384 x 16384
DVI-I-0 disconnected primary (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
    DVI-I-2 connected 1920x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 518mm x 324mm
    1920x1200 60.0*+
    1920x1080 50.0
    1680x1050 60.0
    1600x1200 60.0
    1440x900 75.0 59.9
    1280x1024 75.0 60.0
    1280x960 60.0
    1280x800 59.8
    1280x720 60.0 50.0
    1152x864 75.0
    1024x768 75.0 70.1 60.0

    720x576 50.0
    720x480 59.9
    640x480 75.0 72.8 59.9
HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
The above indicates, I believe, that arch is not seeing my second monitor...
However, it does see both monitors when I plug them both into 1 card:
    Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1200, maximum 16384 x 16384
DVI-I-0 disconnected primary (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
    DVI-I-2 connected 1920x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 520mm x 320mm

Since I have 2 gfx cards the card info is:
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF114 [GeForce GTX 560 Ti] (rev a1)
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF114 [GeForce GTX 560 Ti] (rev a1)
Since I am using 2 different cards I am supposed to add:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    BusID "PCI:02:00.0"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Screen1"
    Driver "nvidia"
    BusID "PCI:03:00.0"
    EndSection
    To:
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "DualSreen"
    Screen 0 "Screen0"
    Screen 1 "Screen1" RightOf "Screen0" #Screen1 at the right of Screen0
Option "Xinerama" "1" #To move windows between screens
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    Option "Enable" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor1"
    Option "Enable" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    Screen 0
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device1"
    Driver "nvidia"
    Screen 1
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "Device0"
    Monitor "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Option "TwinView" "0"
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "1280x800_75.00"
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen1"
    Device "Device1"
    Monitor "Monitor1"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Option "TwinView" "0"
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
I am not clear on how to merge these two snippets together properly...
To be honest I am somewhat confused about this whole process... If anyone has a more clear link or can explain the steps better to me I would greatly appreciate it. Maybe I just have to read through it a few more times. Thanks in advance.

    Screen 1 "Screen1" RightOf "Screen0" #Screen1 at the right of Screen0
Option "Xinerama" "1" #To move windows between screens
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    Option "Enable" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor1"
    Option "Enable" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    BusID "PCI:02:00.0"
    Screen 0
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device1"

    Screen 1
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "Device0"
    Monitor "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Option "TwinView" "0"
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "1920x1200_75.00"
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen1"
    Device "Device1"
    Monitor "Monitor1"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Option "TwinView" "0"
    SubSection "Display"
