Automatic online connection at wake-up or start?

After a recent security upgrade, my Macbook no longer automatically connects to the home network after starting from sleep mode. It searches for the home network but couldn't find it and asks for manual selection. I've already indicated the preferred network in the Network section of the Preferences but still doesn't work. Is there anything else I should do to fix this? It takes too long to get online each time after starting the computer. Home network is wireless.

Have you tried deleting the network from the list and re-adding it?

  • Unable to automatically re-connect to existing wi-fi network after re-start

Just recently I've been unable to automatically reconnect to my existing wi-fi network after my I wake or re-start my iMac. I have to manually select my wi-fi network in order to connect. This started happening after a recent software update provide by Apple (iMac EFI Firmware update 1.8) prior to this install I had no problems. I know it's not an issue with my network becasue I have no connection issues with my iPad. I'm running OS 10.7.3 and Airport Extreme version 7.6.1. Any suggestions? Thanks.

There are lots of discussions about this without any known fix yet...
However, how did you update to 10.7.3 ???
Did you use Software Update ??
If so, I would download Lion Combo Update and reinstall Lion...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484
This will not change anything on your computer but may add any files that need updating that were not included in the Software Update version...
Give it a try and let us know...
I have 3 computers that I installed 10.7.3 Lion on using this method and don't have the Wi-Fi Sleep problem.

How to solve this problem that I have

i've had a few issues like this.
I've found that it is an issue with items that are already on your phone.
    several troubleshoots.
    1) uncheck everything from syncing (apps, music, tv shows, movies, podcasts, etc), try to perform a sync, it most likely will work.  Then, sync after checking each item individually (check the sync box for videos, then sync, check the sync box for podcasts, then sync, check the sync box for music, then sync, etc).  One of two things will happen, 1) you will fix the problem, or 2) you will identify exactly what part of the sync setup is the culprit.
    2) if the above doesn't work, I've found that it is likely an issue with files that are on your phone but your phone doesn't exaclty recognize (for example, I had copies of music on my phone that didn't show up in the music app, I went in on itunes and manually deleted those songs from my phone and that fixed the sync).  to do this, check the "manually manage music and videos" box at the bottom of "summary" while your phone is connected to itunes.  Then, go to the left hand pane in itunes and find your iphone device, click the drop-down arrow that shows all the categories for media on your iphone.  Go to the music category in your iphone on itunes and delete all the music that shows up.  Try to perform a sync - it likely will work.  After this, you can uncheck the manually manage music box and re-sync your phone as normal
let me know if either works

  • Lost connection after wake up (T410)

    Hello,
I have a permanent problem with losing WiFi connection after wake up (from hibernation and suspend). The access connection manager looses connection and cannot connect automatically (although the setting is set so). I have to connect manually every time and mostly even three times before it finally connects. The manager says either "driver was disconnected" or "operation was cancelled".
Is there any workaround, please? It's horrible to wait minute or two before I can use WiFi after the full wake up. In linux everything works fine

    hey teddy_the_bear,
curious to know, when your unit was a mono-boot; did it have the same problem or did the problem start after installing linux ?

If I open up the AirPort App - it only says that it cannot find my AirPort wireless device (probably because I dont have one) and then if I go to networks to connect to my wifi I select my home network and it ask me to input a password (as it should) but when I try to put in my password for my network it says "connection timeout" and the screen behind it (where the options for wifi or ethernet ext are) it says no ip address under wifi (also the status indicator is showing yellow - since my wifi is on just not connected to a network. I cannot seem to find any place to input my information for my specific router. Although I can connect to neighboring wifi routers just fine.

  • Skype For iOS 7 Is Not Staying Online (Connected) ...

As of today, Skype does not stay online/connected and able to receive calls after being minimized for a given period of time.
PROBLEM: I have updated to the latest version of iOS 7 and have the latest version of Skype for my iPhone 4S. While I notices a few improvements I have an even bigger issue now. Skype will not stay onine/connected to the internet and standing by to take phone calls.
It does not take long after minimizing Skype that it goes into some dormant state that either iOS is putting Skype into or Skype itself is simply not working as it should and keeping itself awake. It is not immediate after minimizing Skype but I can say it does not take longer than 10 minutes.
If you have the SOLUTION please post, otherwise keep the restart and reinstall suggestions out.

Registered here to confirm the same or a similar issue here too, as it seems they could be related. If I lock my phone, but allow Skype to continue running in the background, it seems to work perfectly fine for a while. My contacts see me as online, and I can still receive text and incoming call notifications.
However, if I leave it for a while, my contacts see me as offline. From what I understand, if they attempt to call me or message me while I'm appearing in this offline state, they will still be sent to my iPhone and I'll receive them as normal - however it's impossible for my contacts to be able to tell if I'm really there or not since I'm appearing offline.
I'm not sure how long it takes from locking the phone to this issue occuring, but it seems to be perhaps around an hour to two hours. I would just wake up my phone every now and then, but since my contacts are in different time zones and I may be asleep when they wish to call, I can't always simply repeatedly wake the phone up.
If I do manually switch back to the Skype app while it is in this offline state, I notice it will either refresh my contacts list when the app is opened, or it will display the "Signing In" screen briefly before returning to my contacts list - as if the app is going offline or being halted in the background, and when I manually switch back to it, it's being forced to "wake up" again.
Now, my settings already have me set to "Go Offline: Never". I've deleted and reinstalled Skype already. The phone has been reset several times. It looks like something that may need to be looked into further by the Skype team as it seems to be a potential issue - the "Go Offline: Never" preference isn't working as expected under iOS 7.
My device is an iPhone 4S (16GB) running iOS 7.0.3. It's almost always connected to WiFi and Background App Refresh is enabled (whether the last one has any relevance is beyond me, but some app devs have had issues with it so I figured it was worth mentioning in case).

i cant download apps throgh wifi on my iphone however when i connect to cellular data it starts downloading. then what is wrong over wifi , i tried reset network setting but i didnt help

Definitely sounds like an issue with your Wi-Fi network. Do any other devices on the network have similar issues? Is it an issue only with downloading apps? You can check by trying to load a website in Safari.
I would try turning your Wi-Fi router off for 1 minute, and back on again.
After doing that, disconnect and re-join the Wi-Fi network on your iPhone and try downloading an app again.

  • Iphone won't automatically re-connect to wi-fi; have to re-enter password each time

I just "upgraded" my wi-fi router to a Netgear WNDR3400.  Everything seems to be set up fine, and I'm able to connect with our various iphones, ipads, and AppleTV.  But our iphones won't automatically re-connect to the network after the connection is lost, and we have to re-enter the password when we re-connect.
    Kind of stumped here.
    Jim

These didn't work, but oddly enough what worked was choosing "other" network, typing the name of my network in (even though it already showed up in the list of networks), indicating WEP encryption, and typing the password in.
Disconnected a few times and was able to automatically connect.
Kind of odd if you ask me.

  • MacBook Pro loses wifi connection upon wake since I bought a new AirPort Express

Hi. I've been using Apple devices and computers since february 2008 and had no problems until now. I currently own an early 2011 13" MacBook Pro and a PC running Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.10. Until early February, I used a 2nd gen AirPort Extreme to connect to wifi upstairs, being connected via Ethernet to my ISP's modem located downstairs which provides a weak wifi signal (of course my ISP says it's impossible since their modem is the best on the market), not even compatible with Apple's wifi systems (all other French ISPs modems are compatible with it), that's why I had to get a 30 ft ethernet cable running down the stairs. My connection was lost everytime I went upstairs/downstairs so I bought a new Airport Express to replace my ISP's modem wifi signal and I'm using my AirPort Extreme to extend the wifi network upstairs. Now all my devices and computers have a strong wifi signal anywhere in my house with only one downside: My MacBook Pro (and only it) loses the wifi connection upon wake after sleep and I have to disconnect/reconnect it manually. I didn't bother installing Windows on it as I removed the Superdrive to setup a DIY Fusion Drive a few months ago so I can no longer boot optical medias and I can't know if it's a hardware or software problem. Again, everything was working all right on it until I changed my Wifi network configuration a month ago when I bought my Airport Express.
    Can anyone help me ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Well this isn't making sence.
What is the model # on your extreme?

  • Car kit automatic A2DP connection

I'm not entirely sure if this is a problem on my phone, or with the car kit, but I figured if I post on both ends, someone might know the answer.
With my N95 and N97, as soon as I turn on my car (equipped with Nokia CK-100), I automatically get connected to BT HFP and A2DP profiles.  The car kit will tell me, "Phone connected."  A second later, "Player connected."  With the N8, the car kit will only connect to just the phone automatically.  For the player to connect while the car is on, I have to open up the music player and play a song, which will then force N8 to make the A2DP connection.  So when that happens, you hear a 1.5 second message saying, "Player connected" followed by music that is already 2 to 3 seconds into the song.  I thought it was perhaps the Car Kit getting full with the list of paired devices (memory is for 8 pairings), but clearing the list doesn't help.  I thought it was the Car Kit firmware, so I upgraded it to 4.401, no luck.  Then when I paired my old N97 and N95, both HFP and A2DP connections were made automatically when I boot up my car as expected!  But not the N8.
Problem with the Car Kit, or problem with S^3?

The N8 on PR1 is still not a good excuse for the many bugs that it has.  It's just unimaginable that something that worked solidly with S60v3 and S60v5 and suddenly with the improved Symbian OS a mature and functional feature suddenly has a bug?  I just don't understand how that could've made it into the N8.  Is it the OS?  Or is it the BT chipset?  In either case, quality control got missed.
Thanks, though, for letting me know that I'm not the only one to experience this.  I'll stop trying to fix this as this is a problem outside of my control.

As your 6220 Classic can only use Nokia_Maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.2_lm_rom.sis you would need to purchase a voice navigation license which is why you are prompted to visit "Shop";http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/pricing-and-coverage/maps30

  • Slow connect by prior ... start with subquery in 9i

Has anyone come across a performance problem (compared to 8i) when using hierarchical queries where the START WITH list is generated by a subquery? The culprit seems to be an extra visit to the subquery block as part of the CONNECT BY WITH FILTERING operation.
For example, take a simple tree structure:
    CREATE TABLE tree
    id NUMBER,
    parentid NUMBER
    CONSTRAINT tree_pk PRIMARY KEY (id)
...and a subquery - here just a table called sample with a subset of the ids from the tree table:
    CREATE TABLE sample
    id NUMBER,
    CONSTRAINT sample_pk PRIMARY KEY (id)
...with which to drive the start points of the treewalk:
    SELECT parentid, id, label
    FROM tree
CONNECT BY PRIOR parentid = id
    START WITH id IN
    SELECT id FROM SAMPLE
With the tables populated and analyzed, I get this from 8i:
    Execution Plan
    .0......SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE (Cost=2 Card=1 Bytes=19)
    .1....0...CONNECT BY
    .2....1.....NESTED LOOPS (Cost=1 Card=1280 Bytes=10240)

    and this is 9i:
    Execution Plan
    .0......SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE (Cost=2 Card=1 Bytes=19)
    .1....0...CONNECT BY (WITH FILTERING)
    .2....1.....NESTED LOOPS

    .....9..sorts (memory)
    .....0..sorts (disk)
    ..5120..rows processed
..so, about another 5000 logical reads, corresponding to the extra access of the sample table at the bottom of the query plan. So instead of just visiting the START WITH subquery once, to kick off the treewalk, I seem to be revisiting it for every row returned. Not too bad if that happens to be a unique index scan as here but that's not always the case.
I know I've got new options for re-writing this as a join under 9i, I'm just curious about those extra lookups and why they're necessary.
    Cheers - Andrew

There is undocumented parameter in Oracle 9i "_old_connect_by_enabled"
which controls the behavoiur of hierarchy queries in 9i and above:
You can try to return to 8i behaviour using it:

  • Unable to automatically re-connect to wireless network

When I reboot my iBook, it does not automatically re-connect to my wireless network. I need to click the wireless icon, select "Other", and manually type in the network name and password everytime. I have a standard Linksys Wireless Access Point with SSID Broadcast turned off. Even with the broadcast turned on, it still won't reconnect. I have the password saved in my keychain also, and it is set to automatically connect to it in Network Preferences.

I'm having a similar problem, all of the sudden my MacBook won't connect to my Linksys WAP54G, that also has the SSID Broadcast turned off. The difference is that when I turn the SSID Broadcast on it reconnects fine. It's just when it is off that it won't reconnect automatically.
The weird thing is that at the office I have the same access point with the same settings (SSID Broadcast off, but different WEP passwords) and it connects to it fine.
    Any help would be appreciated.
