Automatic opening of PDF by Reader

How do I proceed if I don't want Adobe Reader (but another application) to automatically open all PDF documents?

Thanks.

You can right click on any PDF document and click on the "Open With > Chose Program" option. In the dialog that appears, select the application that you want to associate with opening the PDFs and ensure to check the checkbox at the bottom of the dialog that states something like "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file". Clicking on OK would change the PDF ownership to the new applciation.

  • How to stop Acrobat from automatically opening created PDF?

This may be a question asked elsewhere, but my search didn't find it.
How can I stop Acrobat from automatically opening every PDF that I create in Adobe Reader?  I'm using using Acrobat 6.0 Pro.
Thanks for your help with this major annoyance!
    Cheers.

Adobe does not recommend Reader and Acrobat both be installed. They have strange interactions and can cause problems. If you do not have problems, you are lucky. Part of the problem is that they leave a part resident to enable quick opening. If it works for you, then fine. If you have some problems, you at least have an idea of what a prime candidate is for the error.

  • Mail (in Mountain Lion) automatically opens my PDF attachments rather that adding them as a file. How do i stop this?

Mail (in Mountain Lion) automatically opens my PDF attachments rather than attaching them as a "file". How can I prevent this?

Download and run the free application TinkerTool (not "TinkerTool System"), select the Applications tab, and check the box labeled Don't display contents of attachments inline. Then relaunch Mail.

  • Opening a PDF in Reader (can I default to 100%)

My boss would like for Adobe PDF Reader (and/or Professional) to automatically open documents at 100%. Is there a preference to do this?

I cannot open PDF files sent on my Outlook Express. This is a new problem not before experienced. I had a problem not being able to print PDF files a month ago and got good advice from another user as to how to delete Adobe Reader and install 8.1.2 which worked fine. I tried again with today but it did not work. I'm using XP and could use some help, please.

  • Automatic opening of pdf file

on Adobe XI reader the pdf files are not opening automatically . What can be done?

    Stacy:
I was not able to open the pdf file by clicking it once or twice; I had to go to adobe icon and open it then I could ask the file to open. It seems the system did not recognize the file as a pdf file. However I have been able to solve this problem, and the files open when I ask them to open.
    Thanks.

  • CD that automatically opens a PDF page

So far i have found out that it is impossible to open a PDf document at CD start up on a Mac.
But how do i open a PDF file automaticly on a PC?
    Thanks in advance!
    Dennis

There may be other ways, but I do it by creating an 'Autorun.inf' file that launches the pdf, and including 'shell.exe' on the CD.
The inf file is just a text file containing the following:-
    [autorun]
    shellexecute=nameofyourpdffile.pdf
    label=Whatever
'Label' just provides a name to show in Explorer.
There are also options to add a custom icon (google 'autorun' for more detail).
Getting hold of shell.exe can be a bit of a problem, but it'll be out there somewhere.

  • "The file is damaged and could not be repaired" error when trying to open a PDF in Reader

A few of our employess (only 3 out of over 100 so far) have been getting the error, "The file is damaged and could not be repaired" when trying to open some PDFs. Other people are able to open the same PDF files with no error. It's happening on about 10% of the time. I've read a bunch of threads here with this isue and tried some suggested fixes and nothing has resolved the issue. Here is what I have found works and does not work and the info on their computers:
    Computers:
1 Dell Vostro desktop running WIndows 7
    1 Toshiba Satellite C55 runnign Windows 8
1 Samsung ATIV Book 4 running Windows 8
All using Adobe Reader XI but we did uninstall that version and tried previous versions and still got the error.
    Did Not Work:
As suggested by the company that we use online for claims adjustments where this error is occuring, we tried using a different PDF creator since the files were created using a free PDF creator by the employees. PDF995 and PDFcreator (pdfforge) did not resolve the issue. I then created the PDFs with my Adobe Acrobat, uploaded from my computer to the online program, and that did not resolve the issue.
Saving the file to hard drive and then opening in Adobe did not work.
Turning off Protected Mode and Enhanced Security did not work.
Compatibility View settings enabled in Internet Explorer 10 did not resolve the issue. The previously mentioned claims adjustment software company we use online was code for IE so is not fully compatible with other browsers.
That being said I did try to open the PDF files in Chrome and it also did not work. Same error message.
    Does work:
I download the file they cannot open onto my hard drive, open in Adobe Acrobat, Save as a pdf, then email it to them and they can open it via email attachment.
If they close the error and continue trying to open the file over and over sometimes it will eventually open.
Is there a setting in Windows that is preventing them from opening a small % of files some of the time? Thanks in advance for any help!
    James

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

  • Automatically open new pdf in acrobat 8

    Hello all,
I have a user who was recently upgraded from Acrobat v7 to v8.0.
She reports that before the upgrade whenever she would save a document created in another program (ie. Page Maker or Photo Shop) as a .pdf file the newely created .pdf would automatically open in Acrobat for her. She reports that there was also an Acrobat 7 icon in her system tray.
After the upgrade, newly created .pdf documents to not automatically open, they must be opened manually and there is no Acrobat in the system tray.
Can anyone please tell me how I can re-enable this feature?
    Thanks in advance!
    -joe

    Thanks for the reply.
I actually was not talking about the quick launch links on the left of the taskbar, but rather the system tray icons on the right near the clock. The user in question reports that she previously had an Acrobat icon there whenever Acrobat was running. Having only seen her system after the upgrade though, I cannot verify this.
As far as using the Adobe PDF printer, there was no mention of this when the user was describing the previous functionality that we are trying to resture but I will look into that. I am currently awaiting a convienent time to access her system and attempt to make those changes.
I will update this with whether or not that solves the problem.
    Thanks again!

    Hi  Bruce,
Are you using EMET Antivirus? I have seen the issue caused due to this. Try disabling it and  check.
I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.

  • Can the macbook pro automatically open a pdf?

I would like to know if I have to install adobe reader to open up and read pdfs on my mac.

ditto on the above, you SHOULD install Acrobat Reader, its free, and you can do a LOT more with PDF files than preview.
Dont have to, but should.  Why limit yourself when its free.

  • Can't automatically open a message for reading when highlighting

I just transferred all my files from my iMacG4 to my new iMacG5. Occasionally, when I open the mail, and it downloads, a new email comes in, flashes in the inbox briefly, then disappears. If I shut down the mail program, then re-open it, the mail is there. This had just begun happening on the G4 before moving the files, too.
Additionally, I used to be able to highlight an email, and whatever was highlighted was open to read. Now, for some reason in the last couple of days, I have to double click on each individual mail to read it and it opens in another window. Can this be fixed?

    Hello,
You have minimized the message preview pane. The support article describing the operation of the preview pane, that I can quickly find, is at:

Not sure about your first report on messages disappearing -- please provide more info.

  • I downloaded Adobe reader for Macbook, it won't automatically open when I click on pdf in Ancestry

I recently converted from a DOS PC to a MACBook.  Today I downloaded Adobe Reader. (11.0,4).  In Dos, when I clicked on a Pdf file in Ancestry, it automatically opened so I could read it.  That is not happening now.  How can I fix this.
When I click on the file, another page opens and this appears:
    http://o.mfcreative.com/f4/file05/objects/b/4/2/e/5b42ea22-49a5-4e24-9809-ee445aa4275b-0.p df
    Then it stops.

What does it do instead of opening?
Can you open other online docs, like http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/adobe_reader_reference.pdf ?

  • Attempt to open a PDF with Adobe Reader fails

I am using Adobe Reader X and have been having problems where double clicking on the PDF file does not automatically open the PDF file. Sometimes it will open it and on those days I will have no problem. Other days it just seems to refuse to open the PDF and I see several instances of AcroRd32.exe showing in Task Manager taking up varying degrees of memory. I tried to fix the problem by running the "repair my install", but that ended up breaking my only workaround which was to launch the Adobe Reader and then select the PDF file I wanted to open.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

I had the same problem just now and what worked for me was i archived a email in MS outlook using the Adopbe PDF dropdown menu and then I had full access to X Pro again.
    Hope that this helps
