Automatic Random Playlist Regeneration for Video Playlist

I've got a smart playlist on my iTunes which contains 2 GB of random video clips from my library. The playlist is set up great, but what I want to do is to have the list regenerate every time the iPod syncs. Right now, the only way t get a new random list of videos is to delete all of the items from the list.
Is it possible to make iTunes regenerate this list when I sync my iPod? If not, how do I submit this as a feature request for future versions of iTunes?
Thanks!
Gabe

I don't think so. The playlists (for all i know from my expereinces) are configured so either videos or music, it just plays one after the other. so yes, you can create playlists and it will automatically continue after one another
important note: for this to take in affect, you have to choose your videos in the playlist, not through the video library (where all your movies are shown. Music videos and TV shows are in seperate lilbaries in ur ipod. )

  • Is there any way to create subfolders instead of playlists for videos?

I know that ipod has changed things up by adding a "tv show" feature in the video section. However, what if you have a video that doesn't fall into one of the categories already listed. That being, "Movies", "Music Videos", "TV Shows, and/or "Video Podcasts".
Instead, what if you wanted to title a folder yourself. Does Apple not offer the capability yet?
Furthermore, is there a way to categorize videos into an episode format, much like in the "TV Show" section, but in the "Movies" folder. Or can you sync videos into the "Video Podcast" section from itunes with the possibility of being able to create subfolders for view on the ipod.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

iPods, unlike iTunes, don't support folders or subfolders for videos or music. So, for now, you'll have to make do with playlists.

  • Creating random playlists for massive mp3 databa

Hi. First post here. I've given up my quest to contain 00% of my music on an mp3 player. The only one on the market that will fit all of it is the "new" iPod Classic 60GB. I don't really care for the Apple marketing machine nor the $350 price tag. I already own a Zen Xtra 40GB and have been pretty happy with it. All of my music has been digitized and li'ves on an external dri've, with a mirrored backup. Is there any way to have the MediaSource or Notmad application (which I haven't seen - just read about it today) generate a random playlist of xxGB, which can then be loaded onto the Zen? I'm not talking about a playlist file that pulls from existing files on the mp3 player, but an actual block of mp3 files randomly culled from my external dri've and then transferred to the emptied Zen Xtra?

I can't answer your software question, but I do want you to know that it's possible to upgrade your Zen Xtra with a larger hard dri've.
I did it and am quite happy with the results. My player now as a 00GB hard dri've in it.
Here's the post where I refer to what I did. Upgrading Zen Xtra Hard Dri've

  • Automatically create playlists when buying song collections

I remember that in previous versions there was a setting under Preferences/Store to the effect that when you bought an imix or another collections it would automatically create a playlist. Since this setting no longer appears in the prefs as of version 8, I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a plist variable I could alter or add to re-enable this functionality.

Turning off the option - I doubt - will change the 'Purchases' list. I have it 'off' in my prefs and I still have all iTS purchases added to the 'Purchases' list.
From the iTunes Help menu and a search for "song collection": <You can set iTunes to automatically create playlists when you buy collections from the iTunes Store, such as iMixes, submitted by iTunes users; and iTunes Essentials, favorites chosen by an iTunes Store staff of experts.>

  • Automatic (intelligent) Playlist Sync Problems

    Hi,
I am using iPhone 4S running on iOS 8.2 and Itunes for Windows 12.1.1.4 and I have got problem with a special playlist.
I have defined a playlist like this:
Track, which have not been played for more than 2 year
    and
have got rating for more than 3 stars and genre is not like pop.
The playlist is working on itunes fine and selects files according to definition. If I play a song on iTunes this sone will be removed from this list on iTunes. This works perfect.
iTunes even syncs this ist to my iPhone without any mistake.
When I play one song on my iPhone from this list the playlist recognizes that I have played this song and is reducing the amount of songs after playing each song. At least I have heard all songs and now my problem is starting.
iTunes does not recognize that I have played these songs on my iPhone and does not update the playlist at iTunes for the on the iPhone played songs.
It seems that there is a sync problem from iOS 8.2 to iTunes 12.1.1.4
Does anybody have got any idea how to fix this problem?
    Any help would be appriciated.

You can make a playlist of your own and set the option yourself. Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put the size of the playlist you want to sync in the number box, choose "MB" or "GB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • Random Playlists (like Party Shuffle)?

I'm wondering if there's a way to create a playlist that re-randomizes everytime I connect my iPod Touch.
I know that the shuffle can randomly select music, but is there a way to do this with a regular iPod?
I have a big library, and would just like to have my iPod touch randomly grab 16GB of music every time I connect, so that I don't have to constantly create new playlists.
The only workaround I can find is to create a new 16GB smart playlist each time, but it would be nice if I could just "refresh" an existing one...
Thanks in advance for your help!

If the random playlist is set up correctly you don't need to create a new one each time. When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. If you do this periodically you can refresh the iPod with a new selection any time you like. For example:
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "16" in the number box, choose "GB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"

  • Random Playlist Creator

Until I installed OSX 10.9 I'd used the program (noted above) for getting playlists created as easily as possible. Now I keep getting a note that says:
"You can't open the application "Random Playlist Creator.app" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."
Is there any way to correct this problem?
    Thanks.

Not unless the developer has updated the program  or you want to run Snow Leopard Server in a virtual machine.  Apple stopped supporting PowerPC applications in 10.7.

  • Randomized Playlist Controls and UI

The new Music App UI is coming off as very confusing and unintuitive to me.  One of the features I like to use is the random playlist.  It's role seems to have been diminished in the new UI.  In the previous version I could select a playlist and start it randomly by hitting the "Play All" button.  That button seems to now be gone and if i want to start a new playlist I have to manually select a song to start off the playlist.  This also comes into play when there are more then one album for an artist.  It seems I am no longer able to randomly play all songs from a specific artists.  If I tap on a song it will only play songs from that album.  What am I missing here because this seems like a total step backwards to me.  o.O
Also, while I'm here, why was the very iTunes like interface replaced with a mishmosh of UI styles and control doodads?  For example the scrub knob was replaced with a very unituitive red line which doesn't really look like it's meant to be used to scrub through the track, yet the volume knob remains?

When I use my IPhone 4S to view the Shaw Go Movie Central App when I am at home I only use WiFi which is automatic, I start watching a show and sometimes I will get a message like "you can not use your cellular for video playback" or something close to that. Then I received an email from Telus saying I had used my 3G instead of Wi-Fi  using 75% of my data. How can this happen when I'm on Wi-Fi at home? If it switched to 3G for some reason I should have been disconnected and not just transferred to 3G network using up my data. What is the fix for this??

It doesn't have to be that complicated, Verizon iPhones come unlocked, just tell VZ you're going on Holiday/Traveling and suspend the service, no need to pay for service if you're not going to be using it. Pick up local SIM cards in the countries of your choosing, pop them in, re-activate iMessage and you're set!
I recommend getting a SIM card from the Three network in England, they have great EU roaming rates and free like-home roaming in Italy.
Set your phone's region to match the country you're in, it'll save from some headaches when calling local/international numbers.
    To answer your questions,
    1. If you choose not to have a local SIM card, it is good to keep your phone in Airplane mode to save battery.
    2. Make sure the two iPhones have different names to reduce sync/restore issues.
    3. If husband has an iPhone also, you can chat with iMessage/Facetime, just give him heads up about the new number you'll have. Otherwise, use Whatsapp if he's got an Android. You can activate Whatsapp with your American number or the international number if you choose to get a SIM in Europe.
Also, Get the MagicJack app and/or Google Hangouts, both of those apps provide you with free calling to the USA and Canada using any internet connection. Google Voice is another good way to SMS across the seas.
Let me know if you need any more tips for iPhoning across the pond.

  • Random playlists

So as you all know walkman can't create playlists by folder so I used a 3rd party app to do it. However I was still not able to do it so walkman could recognise it. In the end however I created the wanted playlists but a new problem appeared. Here's the screenshot from my Z2:
Can someone actually tell me how I can find and delete these random 03344640-1c69 etc etc playlists. Where are they located? I tried using Clean Master app to clean junk but it didn't help. Any apps or other things out there that could help me here?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First I tried creating playlists using My Playlist Maker and selected SDcard folder. The app itself told the playlists were successfully created but I didn't see them to appear. Then I tried doing it again and again the same. Now as you mention that 3rd party apps can't write to SD maybe that's why I was not able to create the playlists.
Later, I connected my phone with USB and created playlists with Playlist Creator on PC and put them on SDcard. I was able to create all the playlists I need but at the same time on Walkman app those random numbered playlists also appeared. So now I don't know if this is related to My Playlist Maker or Playlist Creator or none at all. However I can see that those random playlists are on internal memory as I tried to remove SDcard and my created playlists disappeared on walkman but the random ones stayed.

  • Repeat Function for Video?

Just got my ATV. Very cool. With an 8mb connection can watch the trailers in rediculously high quality playing on a 1080i monitor with no waiting. I'm really surprised. This is going to be big.
I was wondering if I am missing something or if there is no repeat function for video. Like, if you wanted to just have music videos playing in the background like you would music? Or, do you have to physically choose each show?

Anyone figured out if this is possible? Would be nice for kiosk, roadshow, window display type use if you could:
    1) Set a piece of video content to loop or repeat.
    2) Create a playlist of videos that would play one after the other without human interaction.
    3) Randomly play videos from a playlist of videos without human interaction. (Similar to an audio shuffle function)
So far, trying a playlist in iTunes with video in it doesn't seem to work. The only place you can get at it in the Apple TV menu is through Music and then it errors saying there's no music in that playlist.
This would be great for digital signage applications too. You could set up the content you wanted in a particular playlist via iTunes and have the Apple TV sync/stream that particular content without having someone use the remote.
Doesn't look like there is any of this functionality built in at this point.
