Automatic reset of sbRIO-9626

We have an sbRIO-9626 mounted on a main board using the RMC connector.  Is there any way to have the sbRIO-9626 automatically reset itself if the SW hangs, like a watchdog functionality of sorts?  Or does this have to be handled externally on the main board using a device to trigger the SYS_RST# pin, e.g. if the SW doesn't toggle an IO pin on a regular interval?  Unfortunately, we do not currently have access to the SYS_RST# pin on the main board.  So I hope this can be handled internally on the sbRIO-9626. :-)
Thanks!

Hi ojohnsen79,
There are multiple ways to implement watchdog functionality with a RIO target, such as Single-Board RIO or CompactRIO.
There are dedicated watchdog functions in the RT pallets, with an overview of the RT watchdog capabilities in the LabVIEW Help.
In addition, there is a dedicated IO node in the FPGA target for System Reset.
Programmatically Resetting the CompactRIO or Single-Board RIO System (FPGA Interface)
This dedicated IO node can be used in a loop that is checking for responsiveness from the RT host processor.  In the event that the RT application becomes unresponsive, the FPGA can set IO values to a safe state and reset the system.  An example project for this type of application is also demonstrated on ni.com here:

  • Does the WCS automatically reset radios?

I have a WCS, four 5508 controllers, Cisco 3750X switches, and both autonomous Cisco 1200, and LightWeight 3502i  in service.
The problems I am having, is that some of my Access Point reset for no apparent reason, and I get alerted by my NMS.
When I look at the switch port, that connects an access point that reported down, I see the POE switch port went down and back up in 4 seconds, just long enough for the access point to reset.
There are no errors on the switch port(s).  No cable or speed/duplex issues. Switch IOS: c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.se1
There are no other pertinent entries in the switch log.  Just that the port went down and then back up. Always in 4 seconds.
When a reset happens the WCS reports on the access point:
'802.11/b/g/n' interface of AP associated to controller 172.20.0.x is down. Reason: Indicates that while the radio state should be updated on controller, no reset should be reported
But nothing else, except that the radio came back up.
This is happening two or three times a day, and rotates. It seems that it never happens at the same time of the day, or the same access point, or the same switch.  (I have over 1000 access points and 500 switches in service)
I am curious if the WCS is automatically resetting the access point radios, which is causing the switch port to go down/up?
And if so, is it possible to turn off the automatic reset?
Any suggestions on what I can do to find out what is causing this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Automatic reset problem (Palm Centro)

Recently, my phone begins to have a new problem.
When I use the phone, it automatically resets if I touch the screen during the conversation.
    It disrupt my conversation.
I had done hard reset; but, the problem came up again.
    What can I do?

Did the problem immediately return when you finished the Hard Reset, or after doing a HotSync?  If the latter, then the problem is software-related and saved on your computer.
Did the phone get damaged in any way?  Get wet?
Here's my normal help file for clearing out reset problems:
As with most problems that occur on a Palm phone or PDA, it is either software or hardware related and we have to determine which one.
Best method is to first make a complete backup of your unit to your SD card using the free "NVBackup" (available from http://www.freewarepalm.com) After the backup is complete, Hard Reset the unit, then test to see if full functionality returns.
Perform a Hard Reset as described in this Palm KB article: http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/45050_en.html
DO NOT HOTSYNC YET! Test the unit before reinstalling any software. If the unit works correctly, your problem is being caused by a "drug interaction" of software - maybe one rogue program, or a combination of several. You'll have to reinstall the third-party programs one or a few at a time to find the problem one. To avoid re-installing a software issue, rename your /Backup directory in your Palm folder (on a PC it's found here: C/Program Files/Palm(One)/"your HotSync ID name truncated"/Backup) to something like "/BackupOLD". Now perform the HotSync, choose your HotSync name you've been using, and all your PIM data will return, but not the third-party programs. Test for functionality again. If all is good, start installing the old programs from your /BackupOLD directory one (or a few if brave) at a time.
If the unit does not work after a Hard Reset is performed correctly, then it may be Hardware-related. (If it's a connection problem via either BlueTooth or Wifi, be sure nothing has changed on the unit you're trying to connect to!)
    Hope this has helped,
    Wyrenut

I am no longer able to turn off cellular data usage for individual apps.
When I turn most of them off, they just automatically reset themselves to allow data usage.
    Any thoughts?

I am definately having the same problem and cannot believe there are no answers or even support that this problem exists.  I never have to post on forumns, I read what is usually readilly availiable for the craziest of problems.
Anyways, the problem is just that, I can toggle off a individual app's setting of cellular data availability, but it changes right back on rescreening.  After restarting, resetting etc, it seems that the big Apple Apps are the biggest offenders.  Music is a very important one, Podcasts can kill you very quickly, app store, Photos, Facetime, Stocks?!?!?!
When one searches for solutions I have to see hundreds of links to "How great is ios7, you can turn off cellular data for individual apps FOR DUMMIES!".  I am a dedicated apple fool since the Apple IIe (long time), but when they run afowl it is usually really bad.  Why offer an on/off switch if the setting is always on?
I am writing just to add support to the existence of this problem, not so much for people to offer ideas of solutions as I now believe it is in the coding.
    Thank you

  • Seeking Diagnosis: ADSL Max: Automatic Reset of Hu...

I’m hoping that the forum can suggest a diagnosis for an intermittent problem with my BT broadband link. I’ve been told in the past that my link uses ADSL Max. The problem has occurred before, though not for a couple of months, and not since an NTE5 and service-specific face plate were installed. I previously posted about this under the title “BT Hub3 - What Exactly Does 'Connection time' Mean?”.
The problem is that the Hub (specifically a Hub 3) performed an automatic reset (after the connection had been stable for almost 25 days), and on completion of the reset the upstream bit rate had fallen to a mere 160 kbit/s. The downstream bit rate had also fallen, but only slightly, and its value remained perfectly acceptable given the length of my phone line.
I’ve pasted below some statistics that I took from the hub manager, together with the date and time of their retrieval. Clearly the problem is correlated with, and probably caused by, a decline in the Noise Margin Up figure from 21.0 dB to 5.0 dB, and I’m interested in knowing whether this is symptomatic of a fault in BT’s network, or of any other obvious cause. I was actually talking on my phone line when the reset occurred, and I was alerted to it by crackling on the line.
Having identified the reduction in upstream bit rate I recovered the situation by unplugging the broadband cable and then plugging it in again a few moments later. I suspect that had I not done this the upstream bit rate would still be far too low. It is reasonable to expect that a low upstream bit rate would be corrected automatically, but my past experience is that this does not happen, and I’d be interested in knowing whether dynamic line management focuses exclusively on the downstream bit rate.
    Thanks in anticipation.

  • Encoder position not automatically resetting on z pulse

I am using a PCI-7344 motion control card with a UMI-7764 break out box. Connected to this is a Pepperl & Fuchs 1024 line encoder.
    Problem 1
The encoder counts up and down ok but gives 4096 counts between z pulses and not 1024.
    Problem 2
The position does not automatically reset to zero when the z pulse is seen.
The encoder connections have been checked via oscilloscope for correct relationships (z is high when A and B are both low), but when mapping the encoder signals to RTSI signals and monitoring them, the signals are inverted.
I've tried a lot of combinations of polarity and phasing but all to no avail. What's going on??!
    Attachments:
    Encoder_test.vi ‏42 KB

    1. The 7344 rather counts quadrature signals and so the number of pulses it will count will always be 4 times the number of encoder lines. On all encoders I have seen just the number of encoder lines per revolution is specified.
    2. Unless you are using a Find Index command the 7344 won't reset the encoder pulse counter. There is more than one application where the encoder will make several turns during a full motion cycle - remember a geared drive or a worm gear drive. If the motor/encoder has to make more than one revolution to complete its motion cycle resetting the pulse counter each time the index pulse occurs would be quite disturbing.
AFAIK with the latest firmware/software version it is no more necessary that both A and B are low when the index pu
lse occurs, you can set the actual state of A and B when index occurs with a special command.
BTW in cases the encoder/motor will make several revolutions you should use a separate home switch to detect proper zero position of the drive, of course using the Find Home command. It can be combined with (or rather followed by) a Find Index command to detect the zero position more precisely.

  • Selective exemptions for guest account automatic reset/erasure

I have the guest account enabled on my MacBook Pro, and have been generally thrilled with the automatic resetting/erasure that occurs when the account is logged off. I have now come across a singular program which I would prefer kept its settings after guest account log off. Is there any way to exempt this one program from losing its settings/data?

no. there is no way to do that. the whole guest account home directory with all preference files is erased on logout. there is no way around that. don't use the guest account if you want to keep something.

  • Xperia automatically reset itself?

Hi, I am very very mad that this happened to me twice. First one was my sony xperia TL automatically reset itself and deleted all memories, including SD card. I insisted to give Sony another try with xperia Z3 and thought that this could have been fixed since the other phone was too old. Bu it was unbelievable that this could happen again. Now I lost everything in the phone. Does anyone here had the same problem? I swear I will never and never use sony phone again. Anyone here know what happened? Thanks.

I've seen this before, perhaps someone has access to your Gmail password/account and have used MyXperia or Android Device Manager to factory reset your phone.

  • Measure 16 strain gages simultaneously with SBRIO 9626 + 2 NI 9235 modules

    Hello everyone,
I am currently working on a deformation measuring application. I need to measure 16 strain gages simultaneously, using a SBRIO 9626 + NI 9693 (two C Slots) + 2 NI 9235. I started checking out the example included for measuring strain with shunt calibration on 4 gages with one 9235 module through the FPGA, modded it to read 8 gages without any issue.
The problem comes up when i try to use two modules for reading 16 gages. I modified the getting started example in serveral ways without any success, only can read continuously the 9235 on slot 1, and apparently, i only get an initial reading on the other 9235, and then nothing more. Below is attached the code (note that i am no expert on FPGAs, and i've been trying different configurations, and at some point, not precisely knowing what i was doing ), any advice on how to put both 9235 to work simultaneously will be appreciated.
    thank you.

    Hi s.jimenez
First of all, thank you for your prompt answer. Regarding your suggestion, i hadn't checked the Basic Synchronizing NI 923x example, my bad . After reading and understanding it a little, i tried to adapt it to my situation, sadly with no success. Some of the mistakes that i corrected were:
one FIFO for acquiring data from both modules
used single I/O nodes for start/stop and acquiring data from both modules
changed the clock settings of the modules to: slot1 module providing clock signal for the slot2 module
the only big difference that i notice between the example is that i added the shunt calibration procedure to the sequence, do you think this is the problem?
summing up, i havent been able to obtain continuous readings from the second module, any additional help could be greatly appreciated.
    best regards.

  • How to configure Spartan-6 I/O on sbRIO 9626

    Hello,
I am currently developing a VI using the sbRIO 9626 to control various data collecting instruments. It is necessary to have the unused outputs on the sbRIO pulled down to ground in order to prevent issues with our devices. I know that it is possible, when programming a Spartan-6, to designate whether the I/O's are pulled up or pulled down. Since this same FPGA is used on the sbRIO 9626, I would suspect that there is a similar command to set the state of the RIO I/O's. Could someone give me some insight on how this would be done?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hello,
I checked the operating instructions and see the I/Os are defaulted to tristate before and during configuration, and unused I/Os remain tristated.  You would need to implement pull-up/pull-down resistors to ensure a start up value.  Alternatively, you can have develop a configuration vi and download to the flash memory that has start up states.
