Automatic Shutdown Of Photoshop CS6
When I try to print an image, Photshop completely shuts dow. What is going on?
Bruce
Chris
OK but my problem did not start happening until after Adobe sent out a bunch of automatic updates to Photoshop.
I'll work more on this matter over this weekend.
Thanks for your help.

Images that automatically opens in Photoshop CS6
Two images opens every time I start Photoshop CS6. Even if I close them they are back the next time I start Photoshop. How do I get rid of them?
Which operating system are you using?
Probably the Recovery Images that photoshop cs6 saved when photoshop cs6 crashed.
Look for the images in the following places and then you can delete them
windows
C:\Users\[Your username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\AutoRecover
mac
~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS6/AutoRecover
You should also be able to right click on one of the image tabs and select either Reveal in Explorer or Reveal in Finder -
Photo Merge is missing in my cs6. I wanted to make a Panorama but can't locate it, where should I look?
It should be under File>Automate>Photomerge in photoshop cs6.

Update Photoshop CS6 standalone to ACR8.1
I have Photoshop CS6 installed on both my laptop and my desktop computers. Last night my laptop computer automatically updated my Photoshop CS6 and included ACR8.1. My desktop installation is not doing that. It is showing that my software is up to date and it is running just the ACR7.4. I'd like to keep both versions the same. How can I force to desktop version to update?
Cheers,
SteveHi Alec,
I tried that, but Adobe Application Manager gives me an error saying it won't install. Maybe I need to uninstall it and try again. Funny thing is, it gave me an error on my laptop too.
I'm running Windows 7 on a 64-bit Intel Core i7 with 16gb DDR3 RAM.
Cheers,
Steve
Edit:
I've compared the version numbers on both machines and they're identical. Just for some reason, ACR8 is not on the desktop. When I go to updates, it tells me my sofdtware is up to date. Most annoying.... -
How do I change a default from feathered edge to sharp edge when I select a path?
I'm working in Photoshop CS6 on a Mac and am having trouble when I select a Path it automatically feathers the selection border. I can't seem to find any place to adjust a feather setting. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm using paths to silhouette an image on a photograph to use in another document and I need a hard edge on it, not a feathered one.In the Paths panel, click the flyout menu (in the top right of the panel) and choose Make Selection (this option will only be available if you have a path selected). Reduce the Feather Radius to 0 (zero) and click OK. This setting will be the default even when clicking the Load Path as Selection button.

When opening an image in Photoshop CS6, in order to make the best use of the available screen area for viewing my photos, I have to either press the 'Fit Screen' option, at the top, or double-click the Hand Tool. Why doesn't the image fully fit in the available screen area automatically, when first opening? Is there a reason for images to open by default with empty space surrounding it, or is it an oversight by Adobe, in how the application works?
The view at Fit to Screen is in most cases guaranteed to be one of the WORST representations of your image you can ever see in a Photoshop window.
Sure, it has its place and it's one to which I have to resort often, but the overwhelming majority of users would be disappointed—even shocked—at the perceived quality of their image if that's the first glimpse they caught of it by default.
The only true representation of your pixels is at 100%, where no pixels have to be discarded or made up (invented).
The next best representations are the the percentage views that Photoshop defaults to when you hit Command/Control + or -.
One of those is the one that your window initially opens up to by default, and this is exactly the way it should be.
DexterG wrote:
…they scale to around 46% when fit-to-screen…
…and I can guarantee you that is far from optimal, without a doubt.
If your available monitor space would allow it, your images would open at 50%, or even at 100%, when the image is small enough.
The way the default view is chosen by Photoshop is perfect. Nothing has to be changed in this respect. This is one of the many things Adobe gets right.
Calling it "stupid" just highlights the user's lack of insight into the issue. -

I am able to click on a pic in iphoto to edit it and opens automatically in photoshop CS6. However when I am done editing and save I can not save back into Iphoto. Can any one help wiht this?
Thanks Terence. What a relief. I still don't understand what the book I read was talking about then. Here's a quote from the section I was referring to in "iPhoto 08: The Missing Manual" book, p 91 (ISBN: 0596-516185):
"Note, however, that the instant you edit a TIFF-format photo (Chapter 7), iPhoto converts it into JPEG.
That's fine if you plan to order prints or a photo book (Chapter 11) from iPhoto, since JPEG files are required for those purposes. But if you took that once-in-a-lifetime, priceless shot as a TIFF file, don't do any editing in iPhoto-don't even rotate it- if you hope to maintain its perfect, pristine quality."
After my test results, I thought maybe this was something that had changed from iPhoto 08 to iPhoto 09, so I went to the bookstore yesterday and checked the same book for iPhoto 09, and there it was, the same quote! (on a different page, of course).
Anyway, thanks once again for your confirmation that my test was indeed correct. Linda -
I just "upgraded" from Photoshop CS6 to Photoshop CC.
How do I get all my apps, plug ins, actions, automate apps, brushes, etc. from Photoshop CS6 onto/into the proper folders in Photoshop CC so I can use them in CC?
My OS is Mac OSX 10.7.5.
Thanks. VMS2Thanks, Chris.
By "apps", I meant things appearing under Automate, like Perfect Resize, Photomate, etc. All I know to call them is apps, since it sounds stupid to me to call them "automates". I should know, but I don't remember the nomenclature for them.
I guess I have to find the software producer names and go to their tech help, do I not?
Thanks. VMS2 -
Photoshop CS6 automatic shape layers?
In Photoshop CS6, I have Shape Layer B clipped (ctrl alt G) by Shape Layer A. SL-B has a color fill different from SL-A, and has 50% opacity. Is there a way to automatically make every new Shape Layer drawn to have the same transparency and fill color as SH-B, and should also be clipped by SH-A?
When I select SL-A and then draw a new shape layer, it copies the fill color of SL-A and is clipped automatically. When I select SL-B and then draw a new shape layere, the new layer copies SL-B's fill color, but not the transparency, and it is also not clipped.Play with the manipulator keys (shift, ctrl, alt) or use the boolean icon in the top tool bar. This would allow you to add or subtract from the same layer. Making it possible to have more than one shape on the same layer.
Just a thought... -

Can Photoshop CS6 automatically reopen previously open files on Mountain Lion?
Mac OS X 10.8 introduced a new behavior - apps could automatically open the documents that were open in the last app execution.
Can Photoshop CS6 be configured to behave this way?David,
How about Chrome, bbedit (even back to version 9.1.1), PixelMator, others, none of which are 'Apple Apps'.
The Resume and Autosave APIs have been around since 10.7 (2011).
Maybe if Adobe wasn't so busy trying to shove us all into a rental model they'd have time to consider implementing OS APIs that have existed for more than 2 years. -

I would attempt to isolate the problem starting in Safe Mode. Will PS exit properly in Safe Mode?
Online checks for similar problems (Firefox is notorious for this problem) indicates certain apps like Java is indicated, but I doubt this here. Also, corrupt drivers are indicated.
Run a query: "Apps won't close in Win7" in Google and see if you have any similar setups you come across there. -
Adobe Photoshop CS6 Very Slow On Rendering Type
I have a notebook with specification as mentioned below :
Lenovo Ideapad Y470P
2nd generation Intel Core i7-2670QM Processor( 2.2GHz 1333MHz 6MB)
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
AMD Radeon HD 7690 2GB
8.0GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333 MHz
750GB 5400
I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit) for doing my job.
Right now, i have a task to create a banner with dimension 800 x 900 Centimeters with Resolution 300 DPI and Color Mode RGB 16 Bit.
The file size when blank is about 56.1 GB.
The problem is, when i add some text with Horizontal Type Tool and click on the Move Tool, the Rendering Type screen show up and take a very very long time to finished.
I have made some configurations to my Photoshop that i found on Adobe Forum, but the problem still persisted.
Some configurations that i've made is :
- Turn off the Automatically Save Recovery Information
- Set Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility to Ask
- Set the Memory Usage to 95%
- Set the Cache Levels to 8 and Cache Tile Size to 1024K
- Set the Graphics Advanced Settings to Drawing Mode Advanced, and Check the option Use Graphics Processor To Accelerate Computation, and Uncheck the option Anti-Alias and 30 Bit Display
- Set the Scratch Disk to another partition ( C:System D:PageFile E:Data F:Scratch Disk)
And after all of that configuration, my Photoshop still slow when Rendering Type.
Could you give me some tips to solve my problem?
Thanks300 ppi for a banner that size is categorically not normal. Guaranteed.
Get specific instructions from the shop that is going to print it.
You keep confusing ppi with dpi. The resolution of an image file really is expressed in ppi, pixels per inch, not "dpi" which is dots per inch. The precise terminology is as follows:
DPI = Dots per inch = units used to measure the resolution of a printer
LPI = Lines per inch = The offset printing 'lines' or dots per inch in a halftone or line screen.
PPI = Pixels per inch = the number of pixels per inch in screen/scanner file terms.
Here's a link to a discussion that may interest you:
http://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/487/what-ppi-should-a-large-format-artwor k-for-print-be-done-at
It includes the following chart and subsequent comments :
"The rule of thumb is that we need 1.5 to 2 times the LPI in PPI to get acceptable results.
"Viewing Distance Present Study
20 feet greater than 10 LPI
18 feet 18.75 LPI or greater
16 feet 18.75 LPI or greater
14 feet 37.5 LPI or greater
12 feet 37.5 LPI or greater
10 feet 50 LPI or greater
8 feet 65 LPI or greater
6 feet 85 LPI or greater
4 feet 100 LPI or greater
2 feet 133 LPI or greater
1 foot 150 LPI or greater
6 inches 150 LPI or greater
"Presumably, for a banner 3m x 5m, you'd be standing at a minimum of, say, 10 feet. (Just eyeballing the wall here.) So, by this table, you'll need 50 LPI minimum. That would mean your raster graphics should be about 100 PPI, or 75 PPI at 12-14 feet. Considering that and the fact that 2x LPI is pretty conservative for reproducing fidelity (often 1.5xLPI is "enough"), this agrees with [the given] advice of 75 PPI being acceptable."
Talk to your printer. I suspect they will want a file at under 75 ppi, or even much less. Follow the printer's advice/request. -
I've just installed CS6 creative suite mainly for photoshop CS6. It comes with camera raw 7.0.something, but need something newer to use my canon 6d. When I download camera raw 8.5 and install the raw converter doesnt work anymore, wont even open or isnt available anymore in the plugin list. Tried to reinstall everything for a few times, but nothing helps.
When I search for updates the raw converter doesnt get update automaticly. Frustrating, is costing me the whole morning.
