Automatic "Sleep" Functional for Anyone after 10.5.2?

I'm wondering if anyone's "sleep" works after 10.5.2? If it does now, but didn't at first, what steps did you take to correct the issue? Is this failure-to-sleep problem restricted only to Intel-based systems?

Hi Daddy,
I do not wish to appear offensive... but you've still not told me if you have an Intel-based Mac with OS X 10.5.2. Details at the bottom of your post do not clarify this issue!
I would like to know if anyone with this configuration now has a perfectly functioning automatically timed "sleep." This question has either a "yes" or "no" answer. I am particularly interested in hearing from those who experienced an unresponsive automatic "sleep" after upgrading (i.e., an initial "no") who have subsequently found a "fix" that reinstates a functioning automatic (timed) "sleep." If no one in this category responds within the next day or so, I'm obliged to infer that all Intel-based Macs (and possibly others) most likely experience this problem after updating to 10.5.2. +I view this as a truly minor inconvenience as I remain able to put the computer to sleep manually.+
However, I have acceded to your request: I dismounted both FW drives (physically and electrically). The Mac was rebooted with no open applications --- the monitor shut down at the specified time (after approximately 10 minutes of inactivity), but the Mac *+did not+* go to sleep even after waiting another 15 minutes beyond the specified time! I still have not tried booting with an unplugged USB keyboard/mouse...

Is there a way to set up an automatic paste function for frequently used phrases.
My husband has an unusually long email address which he cannot change - he is not good at typing. I would like to help him by creating a sort of shortcut or auto paste function on his IMac to save him time and frustration. Any suggestions?

Are you really using an earlier OS than Mac OS 8.6?  That would be either 8.1, or 8.5 if I recall correctly.

  • Tp executes 10 second sleep function for every transport step

I am currently working on a problem related to performance of transports. In all of the environments i work with (about 50 in total), be it DEV,ACC,QAS,SBX or PRD, i have noticed considerable delays when tp is performing an import. This delay is occurring for every step that has to kick off an RDD-job. The jobs themselves finish very quickly, within 1 or 2 seconds.  I very much convinced tp is waiting for 10 seconds exactly after kicking off a job in SAP via a trigger.  After tracing tp with flags '-t' and 'tf=' i noticed in the trace references to this 10 second wait. I did debug one of the latest tp versions on a Windows platform and found the code that does this. A PUSH of the number 10 and a CALL to a sleep routine. When you execute this code and time it it takes 10 seconds before tp comes back and then start checking the successful completion of the job it kicked off. I have changed the value of 10 to 1 with a hex editor and now the delay is only 1 second and my transports are still running fine. The duration of a very simple transport with 4 steps inside a batch job in SAP dropped from 45 to 5 seconds.
Perhaps you think, why bother at all, but when you consider that these steps are executed multiple times per transport (sometimes even 10 times or more) and that frequently bundles are imported where several thousands of transports go in you understand why i am persuing a better solution.
There may be a valid reason why tp is waiting, but then the mechanism has to improve.
My question is, has somebody also noticed that tp is unnecessarily delaying the imports and what have you done to investigate ?
Can somebody confirm what i am claiming ?
Thanks in advance, Peter van der Woude

For those of you who are interested in speeding up their imports without having to use 'import all' version 340.16.25 will be released shortly. In this version the sleeps are reduced from 10 to 1 second per transport step. Average transport times should drop between 40 to 50 seconds. Depending on the contents the gain could also be only 20 seconds.

  • Does ichat have an automatic logout function for being inactive

I'm doing a project for my A+ certification class and i dont know if mac ichat will time out my video chat for inactivity i am running a snow leoperd OS
    Thank you for your time,

    Hi,
In the General Section of the iChat Preferences there is a setting that will set the Status of iChat to Away if you become Idle.  ("Set my Status to Away after the computer is inactive")
Idle is the time without any keyboard or mouse (User Input) to the computer.
iChat will show you as Idle after 10 minutes (although there are ways to change this).
So this leaves iChat being in one of 4 states:-
Available and Active.  (Green blob next you your name on other people's Buddy lists)
Available but Idle.  (Amber Blob next to Name)
Away but Active on the computer  (Red Blob next to your Name)
Away and Idle.  (Not shown in iChat Buddy Lists unless you mouse over the Buddy's name - Other apps do differentiate this.)
As  a Video chat could be a long time (several hours) without you making any keyboard input so the Idle time does not apply during an Video or Audio Chat.
I have never come across a Video time out period.
Technically they last until one end or the other actually ends the chat or some other external factor causes the chat to end.

  • Automatic sleep broken after 10.5.7 update

    Hello,
Since I updated my 10.5.6 system to 10.5.7, the automatic sleep function doesn't work anymore. Screen goes black but harddisk keeps running (little light doesn't pulse).
I tried to repair permissions, reset SMC like described elsewhere in the forum, without any success.
Finally, I reinstalled 10.5 using the "Archive and install" option. Then applied the 10.5.6 combo update. And automatic sleep worked again.
After a few days, with the coming of Safari 4.0 final version (which only work with 10.5.7...), I decided to give it a try and applied the 10.5.7 combo update.
    And guess what...
    Automatic sleep is broken again...
If anybody has a solution, I would be happy to read it.
    Thanks in advance

Some clues point to my external LaCie DVD±RW DL...
As long as it is connected to my MacBook, automatic sleep doesn't work. A green light is flashing at regular intervals, which indicate some sort of activity that could prevent the MacBook to sleep automatically.
To confirm this, I disconnected the external burner and... automatic sleep was working again. I checked the availables updates on LaCie website, but it seems that my burner's firmware is up to date.
I've sent a support request to LaCie, hoping they could do something about it.

  • After ram upgrade automatic sleep is not working anymore

Some days ago I installed a second 1GB ram module in my 20" Intel iMac. After this I noticed that the automatic sleep do not work anymore. The display turns off but the iMac not. The iMac makes sounds like he wants to do to sleep but could not.
I tried everything I could find... delete OS X powermanagement prefs, run Onyx, reset the SMC.
Do anyone have an solution for this?
    Thanks

Does your iMac recognize the new memory module?
    Yes.
You might try reseating the module in its slot, and it
would not be a bad idea to run Hardware Test from
your install/restore DVD, just to be sure there is
    not an underlying hardware problem.
Already done - no problems reported
Is your new memory module of the same specifications as the
    stock module?
Yes it is the same, I had a look on this before I bought it because I wanted to use the dual-channel mode.
Also, what are your settings for sleeping your iMac?
5 min to sleep display, 10 min to sleep the mac
One other thing you may wish to
try is updating your system of OS X 10.4.6 (your
profile indicates that your a running 10.4.5).
Was updated to 10.4.6. I just forget to change the forums pref
I more thing to mention when I start the sleep mode manually everything is fine. I also tried to disconnect all external USB/Firewire hardware and tried it with a fresh mac os install on my USB HDD.
    Nothing helped.
    Thanks

  • After updating to ios6. I am unable to have voice control in my Fiesta Titanium has this been a problem for anyone else or just my problem?

After updating to ios6. I am unable to have voice control in my Fiesta Titanium has this been a problem for anyone else or just my problem?

I am an activist when it comes to rip-offs and I intend to set up a group to pressure the Ausralian government to legislate to make all computer software producers to make all new software compatible with all old software AT NO COST to the user.
I thought about that myself, but when it comes to Windows XP. It is peculiar that software companies get away with "selling" software that suddenly stops working properly. The problem with XP is of course an environmental one as well. There is a huge number of fully functional PCs that suddenly are no longer supported by Microsoft, and that are not powerful enough to take newer supported MS operating systems. What MS basically recommends people is to throw them away with a horrible cost for our environment.

  • MacPro: How to prevent scanning for monitor after sleep?

    Hi everybody,
So here's the deal: When I power up my MacPro or wake it up from sleep, it seems to do a quick search for connected displays and activates only the DVI output(s) which have a monitor connected to them. While I understand that behavior at boot time, I find it really troublesome when waking the MacPro from sleep.
    Here's why:
I rarely turn off the MacPro completely, I much rather put it to sleep when I'm away. What I do, however, is to turn off the huge 30'' display that drains a lot of power when left on. When I come back, I just have to turn the display on before turning on the MacPro and everything is fine.
However, there's one scenario where I systematically get caught and that's really... really annoying! It happens in combination with the EyeTV Software. When I'm away by the time a scheduled show starts, the EyeTV wakes up the MacPro and starts recording. That's exactly what it's supposed to do. However, since the monitor is turned off by the time the MacPro wakes up, it won't recognize it and the graphics card won't send any signal! So when I come back to the computer and turn on the screen, It says "No Signal". The solution at this point is putting the MacPro to sleep briefly and resume it with the display turned on this time. However, putting the Mac to sleep while EyeTV is recording a show causes the recording to be rendered useless.
Is there a way to prevent the MacPro from rescanning for monitors after sleep? Or maybe there's a key combination to let it rescan manually?
As far as I remember, it didn't do the rescan-monitors-after-sleep thing under Tiger, but not sure about that...
Any help would be highly appreciated!
    MasOS X: 10.5.2 Leopard
Mac Hardware: MacPro Dual-Core Intel Xeon 3GHz (from mid-2007)
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
    Monitor: Dell 3008WFP
    Greetings,
    Mike

What I do, however, is to turn off the huge 30'' display that drains a lot of power when left on.
The display should go to "Active-off mode" (amber power light) when the computer sleeps. This uses less than 2 watts.

If you do want the monitor off (e.g. to save power while EyeTV is recording), you could use a DVI Detective

  • Do we have function for automatic post GI when post GR

    Dear Guru,
Do we have standard function for automatic post GI when we post GR
    or
Automatic post GR when we post GI?
We have this requirement but now we don't have a solution except create a new customize program.
    Please kindly advice.
    Thank you very much.
    Saiyaman

I'm sorry I did not explain the exactly requirement.
Actually we have pipeline material but I don't want to use material type PIPE.
So when we post GI the material (261 or 201), we would like to post GR 501 immediately before GI.
    or
When we post GR 501 of that material, system will automatic post GI material 261 immediately.
    Please kindly advice.
    Thank you.

  • Automatic Sleep Not Functioning

I have read the other posts on this topic. Unfortunately, nothing in them has helped, and it seems that everyone else's problems have been fixed by various things posted in those topics. Here's my problem:
My MacBook Pro will not sleep automatically, no matter where I place the sleep timer. I have tried quitting all third party apps. I have checked the Console, and I thought I found the problem there. Apparently Mozy (a backup utility I had previously deleted) was still being attempted to run every few seconds by some helper deep in the system. I ran the uninstaller, and that stopped, but still no automatic sleep even after restart. I thought it was Connect 360, but I disabled that and confirmed no processes related to it were running, and still no automatic sleep. I tried disabling Spotlight. Still no auto sleep. I tried disabling Time Machine. Still no automatic sleep. I'm getting incredibly frustrated.
Manual sleep works just fine. This problem did not happen under Tiger. My Leopard installation was clean. Please, any help on this matter that hasn't been covered in other threads will be very, very appreciated.

Ha! No answer to your question. I have the same problem. Computer simply doesn't go int sleep mode as set in the energy saving prefs. Seems to be a real bug! Why does Apple not react?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Sleep / wait function for Business Server Page

    Hi friends of BSP,
on my BSP I generate at the onload function x iframes for calling BEx 7.x WebTemplates.
It is a dynamical count of iframes depending on some URL parameters.
Now, I get the problem, that if the count of iframes is to big, the system can not load all WebTemplates, because they are generated to fast and the system can not handle this amount of processes.
Is there a possibility to include a wait or sleep function?
If the answer is "yes", how to implement those functions?
thanks for any help and support
    kind regards
    Patrick

    Hi Jamie,
now, we us the JS method window.setTimeout().
    But there are some restrictions.
In BSP Applications this method works only if the delayed functions is the same function calling the delayed function
    function delayFunction(index)
      var timeout
      timeout = window.setTimeout(function() { delayFunction(i) }, 1000);
and the delayed called has to be the last step of the function
(for exmaple there is no possibility to include the setTimeout-function in an IF condition or in any loop).
    Many thanks
    Kind regards
    Patrick

How does one ensure an automatic save function every 5 mins for any document you are working on. Yesterday I erased a doc I was on and had to rework from the start.

Well I understand that auto save is already present and saving your doc every 5 mins. But then why do you think, this did not happen yesterday in the following case?? I wrote one page of a long document and wanted to format it before proceeding. I selected the part to be formatted and instead erased it. I could not find that page again. I had to rewrite the matter.
