Automatic slide transition timing

I'm putting together a presentation with multiple actions on each slide. The actions are all timed and I want each slide to be displayed for exactly 30 seconds before transition to the next slide.
But I can't figure out how to set this up. Is the automatic slide transition delay timed from the when the slide appears or when the last action finishes? I tried working it out both ways and it doesn't make sense.
e.g
I have a slide where a picture appears after 20 seconds. I then set the auto slide transition to 10 seconds. I expected the slide to change at 30s but it actually does it nearer 40s?
What's going on?
Thanks

I tried a new experiment with a fresh, new Keynote presentation. Plain white background. Three words that animate, each On Click. Move In, Bottom to Top. .2 second speed. Dragged my WAV narration file to the slide. Recorded the presentation, animating each word manually at the appropriate point in the narration. Playing back the recording in Keynote looks and sounds as intended. Exported to QuickTime. Narration starts, first animation doesn't appear in time. As soon as first animation appears, audio cuts off completely. Other two animations appear, with no audio.
I even tried a different font this time (a standard OS X font). This can't be a problem with my presentation file.
Something is wrong with the QuickTime exporting function. I'd love to know if anyone has had success (visuals and audio in sync) exporting to QuickTime after importing your narration (or sounds) by dropping an audio file on the slide.

  • Is it possible to record slide transition timing but not narrative?

I'm working on a presentation and will be receiving a recorded audio soundtrack that will need to play for the entire presentation. I figured out how to delay the transitions so I can pace the slides to the soundtrack. However, when I try to export so it is a self-contained movie or flash file, I can't find an option that maintains the different transition delays. It either has to be manual (which isn't what we want) or a fixed timing (which won't work with the soundtrack).
And if I try to record the timing, it also records the ambient noise in my office. Is there a way to record the timing but not the narration? Or, a way to export with custom delays? For the first showing, the presentation will be able to be run from Keynote, but we want to be able to distribute afterwards as we anticipate people will want to take the presentation back to their companies to share it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Forum.
<<And if I try to record the timing, it also records the ambient noise in my office. Is there a way to record the timing but not the narration? >>
Go to the System Preferences > Sound > Input menu and select Line In. Then set the Input Volume control to zero. Now you can record with no audio input.
    Good luck.

  • Automatic slide transition and playing movies

I am currently creating a presentation to showcase our children's work at school. I have a few videos to play within the slideshow. Is it possible to make keynote wait for the movie to finish playing before a transition? I realise I can set a Delay - but this gets tedious as I have to check each files length - and this is something that we want to change regularly. Also - more annoyingly - there seems to be no relationship between the lenghth of a movie in quicktime and it's length playing within keynote. A 3 minute quicktime video, with a 180 second delay in keynote, finishes a good 20 before transition. Can Keynote be made to wait for a video to stop playing before it moves on to the next slide?
Also - I used to be able to embed a webpage in a keynote slide - has this ability gone in '09? Thanks in advance!

I am having the exact same problem! I need to take my presentation to school, and our campus is not-so Mac friendly. I don't want to lug my 20" iMac to class. Either I have to use a remote with my quicktime file to advance the slides after the clip is finished, or the page simply advances before the video is finished. There must be some way to remedy this. A friend mentioned putting the project into iMovie, but wouldn't that entail recreating the entire project I just spent a week making? How so I do this right?

  • How to make build in effects start automatically on slide transitions?

I believe this should be a simple answer, but it is escaping me, and 30 mins of googling for the answer hasn't led to a solution to this problem: *How do I make the first build in effect start automatically on transition to each new slide?*
I need this for a very simple presentation I'm putting together: Each slide has two lines of text; one at the top of the slide (like a question), then another on the bottom (the answer).
As I advance to each new slide, I want the question's build in effect (Scale Big, By Letter, Forward) to happen automatically. On the next click, the answer text will appear (also Scale Big, By Letter, Forward).
On the next click, it should advance to the next slide and the next question should appear with the build-in effects. And so on...
Should be simple, but it's alluding me. Thanks in advance for the help!
    Cheers, Patrick

How do I make the first build in effect start automatically on transition to each new slide?
You can read about this feature in Keynote in the Keynote help menu: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Keynote/5.0/en/kyntc693f26f.html
Go to the slide in question.
    Go to the Build Inspector.
    Click on Build In.
Click on "More Options" at the bottom.
    Click on your first build.
Change "Start Build" to "Automatically after transition".
    Hope that helps.

  • Slide transitions are choppy only on replay

When I watch a video I've created (either using the F4
preview or after publishing to SWF), the initial view functions as
planned. When I click my 'Replay' button on the last slide,
transitions between slides with a 10 or 15% transparent image don't
transition properly. The video "jumps". Here are my details...
    Using Captivate 3
Projects range in size, but are fairly average-to-small
    * 15 - 30 slides
    * 0:50 - 1:50 in length
2 slides next to each other each have a .PNG image to fade
out the background, so text can be read more easily
    * 10% or 15% transparency set on the images
    * No transition set between slides
    * No Fade in or Fade out set on images
'Replay' button jumps to Slide 2. Get the same behavior
    jumping to Slide 1.
If I use the 'Restart/Replay' button on the Playbar, the
slides transition smoothly. Here's a sample of what happens:

Anyone experienced this? Anyone got a clue?

configured the video using Captivate's features, so I'm not sure
how the results are "predictable." It works beautifully on the
first run, and the glitch doesn't occur until the replay. That
sounds like a timing issue inside Captivate (my junior member
    analysis).
The "best practices" that I refer to are written, but
in a thousand posts and emails over years and years, not as an
intentionally constructed volume of work available by itself.
Sorry. Your "junior member analysis" is not to be taken lightly,
and I apologize if I made it sound like it was being so construed.
My apologies are hereby offered, if any are needed.
I think now I might have mis-read your original post, as it
seemed then that you were assigning the transparency and some other
attributes to the PNG image prior to insertion to Captivate,
thinking those attributes would be mimicked within Captivate.
Reading your last, it appears that was an incorrect translation on
my part. I do see what you refer to as "glitchy", however, and
don't have a fix for it aside from leaving off the objects that
seem to be causing it - or accepting that a "replay" can be worked
around or avoided entirely. Sorry I don'thave anything to offer
that is more to the point of your complaint. Maybe someone else ...

  • Making slide transition appear in build overwiev

In the new Keynote '13, I'm not able to set a slide transition animation, appear after a previous build. The slide transition doesn't even appear in the buildoverwiev window.
I have a headline, I have assagined an build out animation to, this starts with a click, after that has happen I would like the slidetransition to happen automatically. But as it is now I can't choose to have the slidetransition happen after previous, as it dosen't appear in the buildoverwiev. I can only force the slidetransition with another click.
    Any fix to this?

To be correct; the latest Keynote is version 6.1 not 13.
Slide transitions are not builds, they are a separate type of effect. Only Builds appear in the Builds Order List. Builds are effects for objects, transitions are effects for slides.
    The effects you want can easily be achieved however;
to add the build to the object on the slide:
click the object on the slide to select,   Inspector > Animate > Build Out > Add an effect
to add a transition for the slide:
click the slide in the Navigator pane to select,   Inspector > Animate > Add an effect >
    select a transition effect
to action the  transition after the build:
in the Start Transition  dropdown menu, seect Automatically

  • Record transitions timing

Hi, I am new to keynote, and by stepping through it, i see a very powerful piece of software. There is only a function that save a lot of time creating a presentation, and it is the ability of record transitions timing.
It would be extremely useful be able to record transitions timing just like Powerpoint does. I mean, after creating a number of slides and text with their own transition type, to have a way to launch the presentation in "timing recording " mode , then Keynote should go through each trans. following the setting order, and, at each mouse click, it should record (and set) the exact time each presentation step happens at. Exactly as powerpoint does. Is such a feature exists in keynote ?

If you go into the Inspector/Transistions and select build options, you can select when each motion or transistion will occur. You can then select record transitions and set the timing for this!

  • Varying the Slide Transition Time Interval in Slide Show with Music

I have this old iPhoto 4.0.3 version in my PowerBook. Is it possible to create a slide show that's put to music? More importantly, can the transition from slide to slide be varied (e.g., one slide changes after 4 seconds; the next slide changes after 10 seconds; the slide after changes after 6 seconds, etc.) or am I limited to one consistent slide transition interval? Do I need to upgrade to a newer version of iPhoto? Or do I need to use an entirely different application to do varying slide transition time intervals?
    Thank you.
    Michael

No, you can't vary the time interval in the same slide show.
There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD, but they all have one thing in common: they reduce the quality of the photos to that of a movie still frame and sometimes limit the number of photos you can use.
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico: http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie 6 as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!

  • IMovie 08 Slideshow - sync slide transitions to music?

Does anyone know how to sync slide transitions to music in iMovie '08? I naively assumed this would be easy, but I can't figure out any way to do this. The idea is that I want to vary the timing of some slide transitions in order to keep to the beat of the soundtrack.....
    Thanks in advance

I made a simple mistake in the code.
    wrong:
    keystroke "space bar"
    right:
    keystroke space
Now the infinite loop runs in iMovie!

  • Keynote Import slide transition timers

I was told to post here Re: Keynote Import slide transition timers
Can the transition times for a presentation can be inserted with automator  or can it be imported from a CSV sort of file.
The way I did this in Powerpoint was I created a static array with all slides timer I wanted, later looped through each slide and set the timer. can similar thing can be done in Keynote with applescript
Re: Keynote Import slide transition timers
    I also posted here, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27495413/applescript-to-set-transition-timers
I got one example but that gives me errors.
    Thanks for your help

Here is the solution for people who care, i figured out a way with some help from stackexchange forum
    tell application "Keynote"
set ss to slides of document 1
set c to count of ss
        set timerlist to {5, 4, 3, 9, 6}
        set n to 1
        repeat until n > c
set timer to item n of timerlist
            set transition properties of item n of ss to {transition delay:timer, automatic transition:true, transition effect:no transition effect, transition duration:0.5}
            set n to n + 1
        end repeat
    end tell

  • Automatic slide change

How do I set a presentation for automatic slide change? I want it to change from slide 1 to slide 2 after 92 seconds. The Keynote Help says nothing directly about this when I query for "automatic slide change", but it does address "transition initiate automatically". In my mind, this is the same thing. After all, if you initiate a transition, you are initiating a change to the next slide, right? It says:
"Choose an option from the Start Transition pop-up menu.
On Click: Initiates the transition when you click to advance to the next slide.
Automatically: Initiates the transition after the amount of time specified in the Delay field."
Seems perfectly clear to me. I want the transition to initiate automatically, not on click. That's what I choose and I enter 92.0s. I assume that means the same as one minute 32 seconds. The transition doesn't happen. I know the Keynote Help often isn't easy to understand, but this is so simple and clear (once I got over the odd wording about "initiate"), yet it doesn't work. Why not?

Good luck getting any more help with that attitude.
You posted a problem that I was unable to reproduce when doing things properly, so all I did was try and offer some advice on the most common reasons why you wouldn't be getting the expected results. The other poster in this thread did the same.
What do we get back? Some silly playground-level chest beating about how you've been using the app since beta. That time obviously hasn't helped your problem-solving skills. Or your manners.
One less person in this forum I'll bother spending any time trying to help...

  • Auto slide transition after build out?

I'm trying to make several items on the page cleanly dissolve out and then have the slide transition automatically to the next slide. I haven't been able to figure out how to do this.
I can't set the automatic transition to a time because this presentation is going to an exec who will be talking and fielding questions and there's no way to anticipate how long the slide will need to be up.
It seems like the build out needs something like a callback function where it can execute something on build complete. Any way to do this? (Or at least request it as a feature in iWork '11?)

To make sure I understand you correctly, you want to have the text and/or images on the screen and then after all the questions, have the exec click which will fade out the text/images and then a slide transition. Is that correct?
If so, what you have to do is make sure the build out is set to happen on click and set the transition to Automatically. The transition will not happen until the last build out is complete.

  • Slide transition animation and image in the slide master

    Hi,
I placed an image in one of the slide masters, because I want that image static in the slide background. But when I add a transition to the slides made with that master, the image I placed is animated too. Should I do something else in the slide master so the image I placed is not affected by the slide transition?
Macbook Pro Retina with OS X Yosemite and Keynote 6.5
    Regards.

There is no such thing as an object transition, objects are animated using Builds or Actions:   Inspector > Animate
I'm referring to "Object Effects" in the Transitions pull down (Object Push, Object Revolve, Object Flip, etc). So yes, technically there is an Object (transition) effect where objects transition between slides.
Backgrounds do not animate when using Builds or Actions.
True. However, if you use the last version of Keynote (before 6.5 and the Yosemite update) and place an image on the master slide it will not animate when applying many of the Object Effects.
When an action or or Build is applied to an objet, the slide or the background does not animate, only the object animates.
Same point as I made above.
No EnzoFT said,  "when I add a transition to the slides made with that master, the image I placed is animated too."
EnzoFT was using a slide transition therefore any object on a slide will be included in the effect.
If you try what I said above in the previous version of Keynote, it will not animate. However, I found out how to make an image on the master slide NOT animate in Keynote 6.5 (I made a comment earlier in the thread about this). Open the master slide, select the Slide Layout, change the background to Image Fill, and the image won’t animate from one slide to the next when you apply an Object Effects transition to a slide.
That is a very narrow minded personal opinion.
Selecting a transition, Build or Action should be based on how it enhances the presentation and what you want to animate; the slide, the object or both.
Narrow minded personal opinion?!? Do you really need to go there? I was simply making an observation.
    Use Builds or Actions.
There has been no change;  Transitions affect the whole slide, Builds and Actions affect objects on a slide.
If you try what I mentioned above there has been a change. Thanks for offering advice, but doing a little research in the future before replying to issues will help with providing more accurate information.

  • Pressing S doesn't start or stop automatic slide show in PowerPoint 2008

I have an automatic slide show created in PowerPoint 2008 which runs fine on PowerPoint 12.2.3 on a Mac running OS 10.5.8, but when running the same version of PowerPoint on 10.6.2, pressing the S and equal keys do not stop and start the presentation. The only thing that stops the automatic slideshow is control-mouse-click (which of course brings up the sub-menu). Has any one else experienced this?

    Hi Glo H,
I tried that and it didn't fix the problem...the music still starts a bit choppy (part way into the music) at the tail end of the 1st slide/beginning of second. I don't know if I mentioned earlier, that the music, when it does come in, is at the point it should be, i.e. like it started with the first slide, just not coming out of the speakers...if that makes any sense
    Thanks,
    Rob

disable automatic slide show begining.. I want that user
should start the slide show if he wants

Sorry about that, just comment out any calls to the function
    StartSlideShow();
in the 1.3 version of gallery.js I have its line 43
    the
StartSlideShow(); function is called whenever the Thumbnails
section is updated. if you comment it out they will have to push
the play button to start the show, it wont start automatically.
