Automatic stacking???

I didn't notice this before, but all of a sudden when I import pix that are similar, it seems to intelligently stack them into groups. I don't want this. How do I make it stop make the bad man go away.
Thanks

In the middle of the bottom portion of your import scren you have a slide ranging from Off to 1.00. That sets the stack command to import images taken within a time span. Set it to off.

  • Can Automatic stacking of files coming back in from PS be disabled?

    When I send a DNG file to PSCS4 with the "edit in PS" command in LR (2.3) and then finish with the new file in PS and save it as a PSD, it gets automatically put back in LR just fine. BUT I notice that it is always stacked with the original DNG file (in the open stack configuration). I would like it to be NOT stacked at all and just organized according to file name.
    Can this automatic stacking be turned off? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. Thanks in advance.
    Scott

    When I open up a DNG file in LR 2.3 it opens directly in PS WITHOUT going through Camera raw and has all of the adjustments I have made to it in LR, thus it would seem to me that LR is the Raw Converter that is doing the work. I never see the Camera Raw dialog box/controls, but I always see all the adjustments that I have made in LR before sending the file off to PS.
    This experience seems to contradict what you have said.
    Can you help me understand this further?
    I appreciate that it isn't obvious, but when you choose Edit in Photoshop CS4 (Ctrl/Cmd+E) in Lr2.x the DNG file is sent directly to Photoshop and processed by Camera Raw in the background. The converted file is not saved at that point but instead exists solely in RAM until saved in Photoshop. However, when you configure Lr2.3 to use Photoshop CS4 as an additional external editor the DNG file will be processed by Lr and the converted TIFF/PSD is saved before being sent to Photoshop.

  • Photo stacks: Can PSE10 automatically stack same named files?

    Hi all. I take jpg + RAW pics with my DSLR, for the most part the jpgs come out fine but now and again I like to tinker with the RAW's. So I like to keep both incase I'm inclined to tinker in the future.
    To keep my photo catalogue looking neat and tidy I stack the jpg and RAW so only the single image shows. I can obviously select both images and the select stack, or I can select a whole load of images and select auto stack which then suggests stacks based on photo likeness. This is OK sometimes, but often many images are of the same subject and I don't want 10 stacked, just the 2 same files in jpg + RAW.
    This can be a bit of a laborious task if I'm putting 300 pics on the PC........ Is there a way to automatically stack the same file number jpg + RAW?

    Intrestingly enough I do not understand why the same company makes products for the same tasks with completly different concepts for same features. The way I like to manage my workflow is to take jpeg+raw, then I would like to stack, go through the jpegs, make a album out of my selection and then work/ edit on jpeg or the raw (depending the type and ammount of work).
    Regretfully I found that Lightroom does a great job of stacking automatically by capture time, hence stacking the jpeg+raw, which is great..but then when I go through my photos and tag them or move them to a collection, Lightroom  works only on the top of the photo at the top of the stack, so when I go to my collection I cannot expand the stack and decide on which photos I rather work to publish or share. Now PSE10 does not stack by capture time, so you need to do pair by pair manually o try using the "image recognition functionality", but on the other hand when you are working through an album you can expand all photos in the stack...
    I would love both functionalities in at least one of these adobe products,
    1) auto stacking by capture time and
    2) keeping the stack together across any view/filter
    I have now spent last few weeks trying to see which product has the best workaround to decide which product I will keep as my standard or if I try to find a non-adobe product, for now I seemed to have found a plug-in from http://www.beardsworth.co.uk/lightroom/syncomatic/ which allows to automatically copy keywords and metadata within stacks in Lightroom allowing me to maintain the stacks together, but I think the PSE10 way to do it is much better..So you might want a try using lightroom, because I found no workaround yet for the autostacking in PSE10

  • I don't want the editor to automatically stack edited photos. How do I turn it off?

    I do not want the editor to automatically stack edited photos in the organizer. How do I turn it off?

    How do you DISABLE the Organizer?   So that I don't have to uncheck the box each time I save a photo.   Nothing in the Help section.
    You can't disable the Organizer but if you don't check the box, you don't have to do it next time, this choice is 'sticky'. If it's not for you, I suggest that you delete the editor preferences (menu Edit/preferences, general in recent PSE versions), you have a button to click on.

  • Disable automatic stacks in aperture

    I would like to disable Aperture from creating automatic stacks.  They are not stacks I would create and I do not want to have to "Unstack" all the time.

    Yes, I found that short cut after using the menu option a few times.  I just re-imported to test your solution.  I have so many Aperture assigned auto-stacks in some albums, it will definitely be quicker just to re-import those.
    I work with referenced files so it's a quick process.
    Well, again you are correct.  I just figured out I could select all the files in the album and apply the unstack command to all.  Great.

  • How to automate stacks for external devices

    I have on my dock for a stack my external firewire drive and every time I boot up the computer I have to click it and wait about 5 seconds then click once more to browse it using stacks any way to bypass that?

    There is a firmware password feature
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1352
    but there is an ominous Warning below the Summary. It basically sets the hardware so that a password (not the same as you user account password) is needed when you start up the Mac and nothing much can be done without it.
    At the most basic level, if you turn off +Automatic Login+ in System Preferences Accounts pane, a login window will appear when you start up. If a different account (or a different drive) is used to start up your iMac, your user account home folder will not be accessible directly. However, the data is not encrypted in any way, so a determined hacker would be able to access your data.
    If you want to encrypt your user account home folder, you can use the File Vault feature which is set up in System Preferences Security pane FileVault tab.

  • Automatic image stacking in Bridge CC by filename.

    Hi,
    I work at a CGI Studio and we use Bridge to acess and manage our library of textures etc.
    Now textures usually consist of several seperate image files, let's say three (_DIFFUSE, _BUMP, _SPECULAR)
    The filename of these three files, say they're from a wood material, would always be like "Wood-"+counter+"_DIFFUSE", example: "Wood-003_DIFFUSE.jpg", "Wood-003_BUMP.jpg" and "Wood-003_SPECULAR.jpg"
    Now I manually grouped the three seperate image files together so I have a stack of three. The thing is we got hundreds of those 3-file-images.
    Basically I need a way to automatically stack all the images which have the same beginning/pattern
    Related: I did this once manually but for some reason Bridge messed up after a few days and got them all half-*** together and jumbled them around resulting in all files still being there but not properly stacked anymore...
    Now I know my way around proprietary scripting languages and am familiar with stuff in general. Do I need to do scripting here or is there a better way to do so?
    How would I start? Where? Has anyone links to a solution for this (I think common) problem?

    Here is one solution.
    #target bridge
       if( BridgeTalk.appName == "bridge" ) {
    woodStack = MenuElement.create("command", "Wood Stack", "at the end of submenu/Stack");
    woodStack.onSelect = function () {
    var fileList = Folder(app.document.presentationPath).getFiles("*diffuse*");
    for(var a in fileList){
        var firstFile = decodeURI(fileList[a].name.match(/[^_]*/));
        var filesToStack = Folder(app.document.presentationPath).getFiles("*"+firstFile+"*");
        if(filesToStack.length == 3) {
            app.document.deselectAll();
            for(var s in filesToStack){
            app.document.select(new Thumbnail(filesToStack[s]));
        app.document.chooseMenuItem("StackGroup");
    Copy and paste the script into ExtendScript Toolkit or a PLAIN TEXT editor.
    Then save it out as filename.jsx
    The correct folder to save the script can be found by opening Bridge, going to the preferences - Startup Scripts and clicking on the "Reveal my startup scripts" button.
    Once saved close and re-start Bridge.
    To use, selected the folder you want to stack the groups of files and select Stacks - Wood Stack

  • Keeping stacks closed *automatically*

    I'm not new to Aperture. In the past, after editing an image and returning to the browser, only one version of that image was visible -- the edited version. I liked that behavior.
    But now, after editing, I see multiple (usually two) versions of each photo I've edited. Apparently, stacks are now the default "feature." But I don't want to have to select the images -- every, single time I edit one -- and tell Aperture (a) This is a stack, and (b) Close that stack. I simply want the previous behavior in which only the latest version of the image was displayed!
    How do I restore that behavior??

    Thanks for the suggestion. Having seen that option, previously, I'd enabled it, thinking "automatically stack" would "automatically stack and layer" the images, so I'd see only the newest one after editing. But that's not how that option words.
    Just now, I unchecked it again, to see if it would make a difference, but it did not.
    Unfortunately the behavior I want to eliminate persists, regardless of the status of that preference. It seems "stacks," by default have something to do with images' time-proximity or something ike that.
    As I mentioned before, the previous behavior -- with older versions of an image hidden -- sort of "behaved" like what is now called stacks. But the criteria were different.
    I'm all for new features (e.g., stacks), but not when they break other features to which we've already become accustomed.

  • Sort images within stack by rating?

    Hi Gang,
    I'm editing a massive job and there's one part of the process that is taking forever. After I've rated every image within a stack, I seem to have to resort them manually to be shown from highest rating to lowest rating, either by dragging or by using the "promote/demote" buttons.
    Is there any way to make images in a stack sort themselves by rating? This would literally save me hours of time.

    I know of no way to automatically stack by rating. You could create Smart Albums with only certain ratings included. I know that's not exactly what you wanted to do, but it would accomplish a segregation of your photos by rating.
    Sorry not to be able to provide an answer, but I don't think there is one.

  • Virtual Copies, Stacking & Sort by File Name

    The scenario is as follows...
    I create a Virtual Copy of an image (Original & VC automatically stacked)
    The file is sorted based on the File Name of the Original file.
    I now move the Virtual Copy to the top of the stack.
    The file has been moved to the very beginning of the sort list!!!???
    Sort by File Name no longer works as expected even though the VC and the Original have the same file name.
    This behaviour is the same whether the stack is collapsed or expanded.
    File returns to correctly ordered sort position when Original is moved back to the top of the stack.
    Does anybody have an explanation for this?

  • Stacked canvas view placed on the content canvas

    Hi to all,
    i am developed a one form ,i.e placed the stacked canvas view on the content convas.
    i create a two data block's with same table.
    one data block for content canvas and one for stacked canvas.
    in the content canvas i taken two fileds with scroll bar and remaining fields placed on the stacked canvas.
    these stacked canvas view put on the content canvas.it dispalying and
    executed succesfully.
    here i am getting one problem i am displying the 10 records at a time in both canvases.my requirment is placed on the
    cursor on the content canvas particular record scroll down then automatically show the same record details in stacked canvas and
    content canvas scroll bar is changed automatically stacked canvas scroll bar is changed.
    any one help me.........

    {quotei create a two data block's with same table.
    one data block for content canvas and one for stacked canvas.{quote}
    This is not necessary. Just create one data block and then assign the block items to your Content and Stacked canvases. You can display items in a data block on different canvases. By doing this, there is no need to write code to synchronize the records because they are part of the same data block so they will automatically scroll as you navigate through your records.

  • Auto-stack by name

    One feature that I feel is currently missing from Lightroom is the ability to *automatically* stack multiple versions of the same images when they are(/were) made outside of Lightroom. Usually, these versions are related to each other by their name. It would be convenient if there were an auto-stack function that would use the file names to determine which files to stack.
    Such a function could split the file names into a base name and a suffix, and stack all images with the same base name. Preferably, there should be a couple of ways to determine the base name:
    1) Use a user-definable suffix delimiter (for example '-').
    2) Use a fixed base name length (n characters).
    3) Use a pattern (such as 'P##??-', where # is any digit and ? is any character)
    I think this simple function would greatly improve the ease of use of stacks, especially when using Lightroom alongside other applications.
    Simon

    Yes, that sounds like a good idea. This could be easily implemented by dragging the 'stack by time' slider all the way to the left. Currently, this simply splits all stacks, like the 'unstack' command.
    The only (minor) disadvantage of this method would be images that have no, or inconsistent, time information, such as composites or JPGs with stripped headers. Despite this, stacking by identical date/time would certainly be a good start.

  • Stacking of DNG and CR2 files

    When creating DNG files, I prefer to leave the CR2 files in the same directory and not embedded in the DNG files.
    This prevents the DNG files from doubling in size and thus prevents them from taking twice as long to open/read/write/etc.
    However, LR does not recognise IMG_1234.DNG and IMG_1234.CR2 as being the same like it does IMG_1234.CR2 and IMG_1234.JPG.
    It would be nice for it to automatically stack photos like this:
    DNG
    CR2 (or other native raw)
    JPG

    I doubt many use the same schema for both DNGs and RAWs in the same folder. For one, it'd be too easy to in some cases edit the RAW, and others editing the DNG. One reason I never shoot RAW + JPEG; having all three would be unworkable for me.

  • Stacks not available in Collections?

    Is "Stacking" not available when working within a Collection? That is what it looks like to me for LR2.
    While in a Collection of pictures from a recent trip I selected 4 images. Stacking was grayed out (not available) in the Photo Menu. With those 4 images still selected I switched to "All Photographs" view. Now I was able to Stack them.
    Is this a bug?

    Not to mention the docs specifically state you can choose filter or use a collection when auto-stacking:
    See the "Automatically stack photos by capture time" in the online docs.
    Auto-stack is nearly useless unless you can use it on a selection or a collection. Unless I'm missing the point here. I would never want to autostack everything.
    I suppose I can try with a filter, but finding the right set of filters without missing something is a but crufty. I already know the set of photos I want to selectively stack up, and they were all taken in the same session, and have been set aside in a collection!
    Sounds like a feature that got pulled-back. Apparently, stacks can't work across folders for some reason (according to a user comment in the docs).
    And the fact that auto-stack ignores a selection while regular stacking does not is a usability defect in my opinion.
