Automatic switching among networks

I have a cable modem receiving Comcast and a CISCO router connected to the modem, which has only one ethernet connection.
I created a second network with an Airport Express 2nd Gen connected to the CISCO. I want to use this second network only for the PS3.
Every once in a while I'm surfing CISCO and it switches to AIRPORT after the Macbook comes back from sleeping. Can I avoid this? Because then I have to choose the CISCO network again and sometimes it takes time to be able to browse again...

Thanks Deepak,
I have already made entries in "Proxy Mapping" with multiple values but when I tried to open link with HTTP, it does not automatically convert it in to HTTPS as it normally does for other sites like google, yahoo etc.
Is any other configuration is required apart from above?
Thanks
Mehul

  • Automatically switch wireless networks

    Hello Everyone!
The folks at the Applescript forum have been helping me with this question and I was wondering if anyone here may have a solution or can identify with this problem.
Michael Henley at the AS Forum graciously offered an Applescript that seems very close to a solution.
Also, there was an interesting suggestion from Duane(airport extreem forum) to use LocationX to create a new location as the default tiger location will not set up seperate Preferred Networks
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=247536&tstart=0
    Here's the problem in abstarct...
Let's say you have two wireless networks
    Net1 & Net2
They are hidden networks or "closed networks"
They are both present in your preferred networks (system prefs)
They have their respective passwords("passnet1" & "passnet2") typed in and are saved (mine are WPA2 passwords)
Turn on Airport and Net1 is selected automatically, it is now "On The Air"
Now you need to switch to Net2 but you must select "other" from the Airport menu bar...
Now you get the "closed network" dialog box...
Now you must enter the name (type of password/sometimes) and the password.
The last step you want to avoid by creating a script called "goNet2" and perhaps another script "goNet1" to get you back to Net1.
SO! There you have it, that's the problem. XNetwork osax should be the solution, as it isdesigned to this and few other things but I've had no joy there.
    Thank you

    Hi Duane,
Having an other LOCATION was my first thought and indeed one would expect this to be the solution but alas NO! The PREFERRED NETWORKS dialogue in the NETWORK PREFS PANE is more of a universal pref'. If one changes the order in a particular location that new order is now enforced for all locations. I have seen similar posts concerning this problem and this seems to be a limitation of LOCATIONS. ANyway thanks for the replay any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • My devices not automatically switching between Airport Extreme and Airport Express in extended network

I have setup an extended network in my home using an Airport Extreme and an Airport Express. The Extreme is connected directly to the FiOS modem and the Express is being used as the extender. The nework is setup fine, but my devices (MBA, iPhone, iPad) are not switching base stations when the signal becomes poor on the one it's connected to. For example, I am upstairs with my MBA and a great signal as I am connected to the Express. When I move downstairs to where the Extreme is setup, the Wi-Fi connection becomes poor even though I am litterally sitting next to the Extreme. To force it to connect to the Extreme, I need to shutoff the Wi-Fi on the MBA and turn back on. At this point, the MBA will connect to the Extreme with a excellent signal.
Any thoughts on why the MBA is not automatically switching?
    Thanks for the help!
    Brian

The first troubleshooting step for any kind of network "issue" is a complete power cycle of the network. This gives everything a "fresh start" with new connections.
Power off the entire network.....all devices....in any order you want
    Wait a minute or two
Start the modem/router first, and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme next and let it run a full minute
Keep starting devices one at a time about a minute apart until the entire network is back up
Check the network again with the MBA and report on your results
Do not worry about the iPhone and iPad....they are pretty much hopeless as far as automatically switching from one access point to another....but the MBA should if it is working correctly.

How do I get my iPad to remember my home network? I already switched on the "automatically join known networks"

turn off all of the ipads, (not put them to sleep but turn them off) then unplug your Wi-Fi router for 2 mins. Plug it back in and when all the lights are (green or blue, depends on who makes the router) turn on one ipad and then connect it, wait 3 mins and turn on the other and connect it, do this for each iPad and it should fix the problem.

  • Pulseaudio not automatically switching between output devices

I am using a laptop and I have 3 different output devices on my machine. I have 2 regular output jacks, and a speaker. Whenever I plug-in a headset, pulseaudio happily keeps sending all audio to the speakers. I then have to open pavucontrol and manually switch my output device. This bug does not occur on OpenSUSE or Ubuntu.
Does anyone have any idea about how to fix this?
Mu pulseaudio configuration files are untouched:

  • Is there a way to have your iPad automatically switch wifi connection based on signal strength?

I have multiple wifi access points in my house as it is very large. The SSID's are different, and signal is fine coming from one of the two access points. The problem is that when I move about my house, I will stay connected to the access point that is far away, and so I have to go into settings and switch wifi networks each time. Is there a way to set up your iPad so that it automatically switches connections based on signal strength?

Probably not, or .. maybe. I can't think of any reason why that would be added into the OS as the number of situations where it would come into play is really quite small.
If they're all entered as wifi accounts and all show as accessible, walk around the house and sign in to each one in turn. They should all be remembered after that; now, walk around while staying logged into one and see what happens when you get a big spread in received signal strengths.
I really don't think it will change on its own, but it might. Who knows? Even if not, it'd be a matter of not more than 10-15 seconds to make the switch manually.

  • Will NOT automatically connect to network!

iMac G4 17" Flat panel (Yes, the one with the black monitor still!) has a new Airport Extreme card fitted. I have configured it to join my home network about 4,562 times. But each time I start the iMac up, I have to manually click on the Airport icon at the top toolbar, and select my network.
I think I've tried everything but I wonder if there's anyone out there knows a remedy for this little diversion away from the delights of the weekend?
My 5 kids are less hassle than this little bstar at the moment. Bless it.
    Any help is heavily appreciated!
    Chris

First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Do not let "Windows automatically configure your network".  Instead do the following:
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Delete your current network (this will remove any old settings).  Reboot computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  It should connect automatically.  If you still have trouble, in the computer, temporarily disable your software firewall, including Windows Firewall, and see if that helps.
Some users have reported improved wireless connections by switching to WPA  ( = WPA with TKIP)  encryption.

  • Scheduling among networks

    Hi Experts,
I encountered 1 problem when I do the scheduling among networks. Please help:
    - I have 2 different networks:
    + Network 1: Activity 1 --> Activity 2 ( Relationship FS)
    + Network 2: Activity 3 --> Activity 4 (Relationship FS)
    + I create 1 more relationship FS between: Activity 2 --> Activity 3.
When I do the partial confirmation for activity 1, and reschedule the project, only scheduled date of network 1 is rescheduled, it doesn't reschedule network 2 (as I expect).
Could you please give a solution for this case.
    Thanks a lot,
    Khoa Huynh

    Hi bhavanio rao,
    I use the forward scheduling.
For sure that if I change the start date of the second network, I can go for scheduling.
But I don't want that, I expect the system will reschedule automatically the second network when I change the actual date of activities in network 1 (because there is a FS relationship between network 1 and 2)

    Khoa Huynh

  • External and internal mikes are not automatically switching over either recording or on voice calls

My laptop model name is HP Pavilion dv4-1100ea which is shipped with Vista Home premium 32 bits and has got service pack 1.
Restored the laptop to factory setting since then I am having the following problems; I had the same problem when my laptop was brand new and whenever I reset the laptop to factory setting I get the following problems:
    1. External and internal mikes are not automatically switching over either in middle of the recording using sound recorder or while the call in progress on voice calls (skype):
Using the sound recorder if I start recording the sound with external  mike  and in-between  recording if I  switchover from external mike to inbuilt mike and later on when I play back I can only hear the sound  up till where I used the external mike during recording, after the switchover to inbuilt mike I cant hear any sound.
But if I start the recording with inbuilt mike and in between recording  if I plug in  the external mike and later on when I play back I can only hear the sound up till where I used the inbuilt mike during recording , after the switchover to external mike I cant hear any sound.
So in brief both my external and internal mikes are working fine, only problem is that if I start recording (using sound recorder) or voice call with one specific mike, I have to continue with it till the end. I can’t switchover to another mike in between the conversation (voice call) or recording, if I do so, I have to select the mike manually in chat software but while recording I cant even select manually because in laptop, it takes the mike whichever is in current use as default mike in recording tab(sound window). The green tick automatically (in recording device tab) switches over according to the use of mike. Though the green tick in the recording tab is switching over automatically according to use of mikes, its not picking up the sound after switch over during recording.
    2. And also when I click on recording device tab in sound window and plug in external mike, though the green tick automatically switchovers from internal to external mike, while I speak both internal and external mikes volume meter respond to the sound inputs by rising and falling but if I take out external mike, green tick goes to internal mike and when I speak only internal mike volume meter respond to sound rising up and down not the external mike.
To resolve the issue I have tried following steps with no luck:
1.I have checked the mikes(internal and external) properties, the both mike shows to be enabled in general tab, in level tab the volume is set to 100 and in advanced tab , all options are selected.
    2. In device manager I have got only one audio driver named as “IDT High definition Audio CODEC”. I have uninstalled the audio driver and reinstalled it using scan for hardware option
    3. Uninstalled the audio driver in device manager and reinstalled the audio driver using recovery manager > advanced option> hardware driver re-installation.
    3. I have updated the BIOS(Insyde F.65, 12/02/2010).
    4. I tried to update the audio driver using below link but things went more worse so I did system restore (not factory setting though).

Sounds like you need to upgrade to the iPhone 5s
    The 5s has Touch ID
You can unlock your phone with your finger instead of typing in a key code
No swiping to unlock either, just touch the home button
You can enrol multiple fingers as well
Here is a video of it in action
    http://www.apple.com/iphone-5s/videos/#video-touch
Or wait and see what iPhone 6 has to offer
That being said, as desiel vdub posted if the phone is up to your face, the proximity sensor should turn the screen off
And when you lower the phone turn it back on again
Not sure about the phone locking when your on a call doesn't sound right

  • T-Bird keeps automatically switching from composition window to main window while I am typing, which leads to typed letters being interpreted as hotkey commands

    Hi,
Since I switched to Windows 8, I've had this problem with T-Bird. Updates and safe mode have not fixed it.
Basically, while I am composing a mail, t-bird automatically switches to the main window. Because I am in the middle of typing, it usually freezes for a moment, sometimes longer and goes transparent and a (Not Responding) appears, but usually unfreezes and then interprets all the intervening keystrokes as commands. All sorts of damage is done: messages deleted, threads hidden, sometimes a "go to last unread message" box appears. It's a real drag.
I thought it might be a keystroke combination that is making the program change windows, but I'm fairly sure I've seen it switch when I just have the composition window idly open. I think it may be switching whenever T-bird checks for new mail.
One thing to mention: I often switch between US English keyboard layout and Portuguese language layout. I haven't systematically tested whether it happens in one or the other, but the POR layout has some accent marks here and there. still, I've been careful not to accidentally touch the CNTRL key and as I say, I've seen it switching while idle.
Any help is appreciated. It's getting to the point where I can't really use T-Bird any more and am sadly looking for alternatives.
    Thanks,
    BL

Voicemail is through your carrier and on their equipment.
It's function and features is set by them, not your phone.

    Hi,
As far as I know, when you have a WiFi-connection all data will go through WiFi and therefor will NOT use your 3G data.

  • My iphone does not automatically switch off the display light when locked. How do I fix this?

I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 8.2 software.
My iPhone does not automatically switch off the display light when it is locked. Therefore, if I get an e-mail/text message/pop-up from other application, the light just stays on, which obviously drains my battery.
The problem just started yesterday, and it has been a couple of days since I updated the software, so I wouldn't think the software update is the problem.
I have tried restarting the phone (using home and lock button), but that did not work.
Something else that seems weird is that once in a while, a blue beam rolls over the screen from one side to the other. I don't know why it does this, and have no idea whether this is related to the display light issue.
I hope someone is able to help by telling me what to do in order to get my phone to act normal again.
    Thank you x

Restart your device by holding the home and power button until the Apple logo appears. You will not lose any data.
