AUTOMATIC SYNC won't accept iPod RATINGS into iTunes

I'm a newer Ipod Classic 80gb user. I have iTunes set to automatically sync. When i rate a song on the iPod, then connect it to the PC it brings up iTunes and begins to sync. After a minute or so syncing is complete, yet the song is not rated. In fact when i eject the iPod and find the same song it is now unrated as it was originally in iTunes. It would appear that Automatic Sync is transferring iTunes settings to the iPod. Why is Automatic Syncing not transferring my iPod ratings into iTunes? How do i get iTunes to accept the ratings i make in the iPod? Are song ratings lost when the iPod battery charge expires?

I don't know. But to confirm, that is the way it is SUPPOSED to work, where ratings assigned on the iPod should be synced back into your library. It certainly works well for me on my older 5th generation iPod.
Perhaps you might want to go through the semi-painful (in that it can take a while to sync a large library back to the iPod) process of doing a RESTORE on the iPod and see if that helps?

No they shouldn't as that info I believe is written in files kept on the iPod's hard drive.

The lock button is the one on the very top of the device, and the home button is the one on the bottom front. They are the only two buttons on the device.

  • Itunes got erased, can i transfer from Ipod back into itunes?

    Greetings,
I did an update to my Apple and all of my itunes and iphoto got erased. The songs are still listed but there are exclamations next to each song and they wont play. I didnt have it backed up in time machine because i didnt realize i had to (im a new mac owner and currently in the process of hooking up my time machine). However, I still have every song and picture still on my IPOD Classic. Is there anyway to transfer them from the ipod back into my computer, or are they erased from my computer for good? Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to iTunes/preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'Command + Option' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Try iPodDisk. This is a program designed to transfer music from iPod to computer.
Similar programs are Expod, Yamipod, Senuti and Music Rescue.
If you want to retrieve playlists, iPodRip has the feature enabling you to reconstruct them.
If you copied photos to your iPod using the full resolution option, enable disk use, open your iPod in "my computer" in Windows or Finder on a Mac, open the photos folder then open the "full resolution" folder and drag the photos out of that folder to your desktop. For enabling disk use look here.
    Disk Use.
If you only copied the photos as thumbnails, you can't do this so you'll need a program such as this one.
    iPod Photo Copy. (Windows only)
iPod Photo Liberator. (both Mac and Windows versions available)
Photos as thumbnails won't be of the original quality when copied back to your computer.

  • How can you get songs already on your iPod back into iTunes?

I previously posted this question under a really bad title and got no answers, so here's a quick summary with a more relevant title:
Due to some mistakes I made, I lost most of my music library from my computer (& iTunes), but I still have all the songs on my iPod (which I backed up). The problem is that if I try to sync it with iTunes, iTunes simply tries to ERASE any songs on my iPod that aren't already in iTunes. Even if I set the synchronization to manual, which would stop the erasing, I still don't know how to get the songs back onto my computer. (They are stored in an unusuable form on the iPod.)
Below is the original post with more details. This can't be such an unusual situation - there must be a way to recover songs on your iPod back to your computer...
Note to Apple: I'd love to buy a lot more from the Apple store but I can't use iTunes at all until I resolve this.
I had to get a new computer. (I'm using a PC but I love Macs.) The new computer is running XP Pro and I have a 4th generation iPod (click wheel).
Initially I copied the iPod music directory from the old computer to the new one and launched iTunes. It worked - but 60% of my library was missing, including all but 2 of my purchased songs!
Luckily I still have my entire library on my iPod. So I backed up my iPod, then uninstalled iTunes and deleted the iTunes directory from my PC. Then I reinstalled iTunes. Guess what? Somehow it still remembered the previous library (with 60% missing!) And when it saw my iPod attached, it deleted all the songs to match!
Lucky I made that backup - I copied it back to my iPod and things seem fine. But how do I get the songs from my iPod back into iTunes? Especially the ones I purchased from the Apple store. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you kind folks.
    - Jeff

How do you get your tunes and voice recordings from your iPod Touch into iTunes on a new computer if you don't have Mobile Me?
iTunes on tmy new computer shows none of my data and I fear if I sync my iPod with the computer all will be deleted on the iPod.
I still have everything in iTunes on the old computer.

Just move your iTunes library to you new computer.  You can transfer iTunes purchases to you new computer from your iPod by:

  • How do i copy an ipod playlist into itunes- the songs are already in my library

how do i copy an ipod playlist into itunes- the songs are already in my library

I found out an easy way....
With iPod connected to iTunes, right click on the iPod playlist you want to export, choose the Export option on the menu that appears.
iTunes will prompt for a location and format to save the file.  Save playlist as an XML file using whatever name and location you want (I saved as "songs.XML" to my desktop).
Then, in iTunes, go to File - Library - Import Playlist and selet the XML file.  The playlist will be created in the iTunes library and will contain any tracks that are refereced in the original playlist that already exists in the library.
There may be a mesage, "Some of the songs in the (filename).XML were not imported because they could not be fund".  This is because the songs you are importing have to already be in your iTunes library.
I just did this with my kid's iPod and it worked great.  I found this tip on Apple Support Communities (discussions.apple.com/thread/2577582?start=0&tstart=0).  It was posted by SpyglassSally and my original search question in Goole was was, "How do i copy a playlist from an iPod to iTunes".
Thanks for the responses and I hope this helps anyone else.

  • Can i get my ipod information into itunes?

so everything was going great until one day i opened up itunes and my entire library was gone! so then i plugged in my ipod, which still had all my songs and playlists and whatnot on it, and it said that my ipod was connected to another ituned, but it isnt...so im thinking that maybe i need to find a way to get everything from my ipod itunes.
otherwise id really like to know where all my music went missing...

First, try Importing Your playlist (see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93763)
Your Playlist should be in the My Music folder.
If that doesn't work, you can get all your iPod music into iTunes with this procedure:

I have a  sync problem when trying to sync multiple cd's I've downloaded into itunes, at the same time. I have an ipod classic 160 GB, and use itunes 11.0.1. If I delete the songs from itunes, reload the same discs one at a time, and sync after each individual cd, all goes well. What's going on and what's the fix?

    Thanks for your help Jim
I found some info in other threads and read that some people had re-downloaded, re-installed and were now working OK. Unfortunately some others went through that pain and still had the issue.
I found a reference to deleting the file 'iTunes Library.itl' and copying back the previous version of that file.
I tried this and when I fired up iTunes I noticed there was a window pop up saying iTunes was updating the database to version 11. I then re-imported the CD and now the songs are there in iTunes, the artwork is there and song titles etc. The songs play and everything appears normal again.
It would appear that my issue was the database was not correctly upgraded correctly durting the original upgrade, this theory is to some extent supported by the fact some people have had success re-installing version 11. This also suggests the upgrade process may be a little flaky.
Anyway thank you to the person suggesting downgrading the 'iTunes Library.itl' file, sorry I did not take a note of your name.

  • Sync won't accept my Firefox Sync Key

Frequently, a window drops down asking for my Sync Key. When I enter the Key--copied & pasted, typed in carefully with and without hyphens--the window pulls up and immediately drops down again. (I've noticed that my iPhone isn't updating changes in my bookmarks.)
I thought I would try to replace my Key, but when I go to Sync Manage Accounts, it asks for my Key again. I can't generate a new Key because it won't accept the old one.
Do I need to de-activate my devices before I can start over? Will I need my current Key to deactivate anything?
Also, the Support for Sync appears to be in need of updating. I suspect that the Sync Support is for Firefox 4. Things behave differently for Firefox 5.

That is the request to enter the Firefox Master Password to make it possible to store or retrieve the connection data from the Password Manager.
    * Firefox > Preferences > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
You can find the sync password and the sync key in the password manager on the computer where you originally created that sync account (email).
    Look for:
    * chrome://weave (Mozilla Services Password)
    * chrome://weave (Mozilla Services Encryption Passphrase)

  • **Looked at Other Posts... Nothing Helps** Computer won't accept iPod.

It's weird. The other day I was syncing my iTouch and iPod, when suddenly my computer. Normally it never crashes okay? I thought maybe it was because I was IMing, playing music on iTunes, and syncing, so it was overloaded. When it restarted my iTouch was perfectly okay, while my iPod was apparently "Corrupted". I pressed restore and waited for what, 8 hours? I restored at least 10 times before, and it always takes only like 4 minutes! I took out the cord and tried listening to a few songs, everyone of them in tact. Later I synced my iPod to my brother's Windows Vista, and his iTunes showed my iPod perfectly fine. I then restored my iPod on my brother's computer... taking only 2 minutes. Then I tried reinstalling my iTunes over my computer, wondering if it has a defectioncy... When I started iTunes, I hadn't plugged in my iPod yet, and yet, it showed a white corrupted iPod on my sidebar... I plugged in my iPod then, and nothing changed... Anyone have a solution to this problem? I need my computer to read my iPod properly because it's what I use to back up my songs so whenever I get a new comp I can just tranfer my songs using my iPod (since my iTouch can't do this) My iPod's a 30gb 5th Gen and my iTouch's a 16gb 1st Gen.

Just an update, after I posted this I put my husbands shuffle on the charger to see what it would do.  Before putting it on the charger I turned it on and no light came on!  It seems something is disabling the shuffles.  Could it be a virus?  I have virus software on my computer and it isn't detecting anything.  Also, my husbands shuffle didn't work on the netbook even when the indicator light was coming on.
