Automatic time update is 2 minutes out?

Does anyone know how the automatic time update function works on the Nokia 701 and the like? Mine is enabled and seems to update when my phone connects to a data source (e.g. when retrieving email or when browsing websites) but the time retrieved seems to be about two minutes slow. Where does the phone get it's time signal from? Is this a network thing (i.e. it is Orange that is running slow) or does it obtain the time from a Nokia server?
Finally can I change the server it obtains the time from?

Firstly, it is not possible to change servers. As this feature does not require positioning info on the phone and does not require a data connection, I would suggest that it is a network thing. As you travel around the globe, your phone retrieves local time infor from the network you are roaming on. I've been leaving my phones on auto time for as long as I can remember and it used to work as well on my 8310, 6230 etc. with no data connection. I would contact Orange and ask they check their clock.

  • Alarm & Automatic time update problem ?

I was wondering if anyone is experiencing a similar problem - I've just discovered this and it's too late to call Club Nokia
I am on Orange in the UK, and we are currently in British Summer Time. I have set my alarm to go off at a particular time and afterwards the time seems to automatically revert back to GMT. Is this a known problem on the Nokia N70 ?
I have also tried deliberately changing the time on my phone to a couple of hours off, and then switching the automatic time updating system on, and it hasn't changed the time on the phone - this leads me to suspect that Orange doesn't implement this feature (as it doesn't implement the cell info display feature) but if so then this points to the alarm feature being a bug in Nokia's firmware ?
Anyone experienced this or has any enlightening information ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Edward,
You are correct about the cell info display. Orange don't use it. Sometimes you will see it if roaming abroad on other networks.
I've also briefly suffered exactly what you have described about time reverting to GMT from BST. I put it down to a broacast cell being incorrectly configured.
About a month ago I was working abroad in Republic of Ireland and the clocks had just moved forwards. The hotel I was staying at (in fact I could narrow it down to the room I was in) was in a zone where my phone repeatedly reverted to GMT. However, as soon as I had travelled to my work site, the phone was 100% back on correct BST. Travelled back in the evening and the phone invariably stayed at the correct time but come the next morning it had reverted back to GMT at some point overnight. My phone has only ever exhibited this behaviour for those few days at that one hotel otherwise it's been perfect. I have my phone on auto time update all the time.
Strange eh? I put it down to a local issue of the cell that happened to cover the hotel. Perhaps your home cell location suffers the same issue? Only thing I can think of.
    S.
Hmm - it does sound like a network type problem in that case although if so that means the cell where I live has never been configured correctly because I always get this problem - but only when setting the alarm (it never happened on the old Nokia 6230 I have). I reported it to Orange yesterday, and they quote a 24hour response time from their techie guys so I am hoping for some information back today.
Any ideas why it might be happening with an alarm clock ? When I deliberately misconfigured my phone's time and set auto time update on, it never corrected the time so why correct it when the clock goes off ?
Thanks for your help and the info

  • Slow boot time since updating OS 6 minutes aprox

I've owned my Macbook Pro since new and it came factory installed with OSX 10.4
I decided to update to Leopard and used the 10.5.6 disc formatted the hard drive fresh and after installing boot time was around 6 minutes. I tried everything, updating OS, reseting pram all sorts but still slow boot up.
Then i thought maybe updating to Snow Leopard may resolve this issue but unfortunately still the same problem 6 minutes to boot!
I don't know a lot about the console but i rebooted at 20.12 pm and here is the report:
I noticed at 20.13 some weird happenings with the internal apple modem i hope somebody can shed some light on it.
Also between 20.14 and 20.18 'Timeout waiting for IOKit to be quiet ' 4 minute pause??? whats that because of?

The concern of which 10.5.6 disc is quite good. While 10.5.6 was available retail, using a 10.5.6 from another Mac model could cause problems with installation.
And installing Snow Leopard over such an installation unless erase and installed would not solve any problems. If you install 10.5.6 over 10.4, you must use
the 10.5 disc that looks like * and does not say update or dropin on it. Similarly if you erase and install 10.6 on
a machine that came with 10.5.8 or earlier, you must use this disc * that does not say Update or DropIn on it, unless it was
released during the up-to-date program period in the couple weeks before August 28, 2009.

  • Scheduling specific time of day for automatic software updates

How can one schedule a specific time of day (i.e. between 11:01 pm to 5.59 am when I have unlimited download availability) for an iMac to search for automatic software updates? System preferences only offer frequency, but no time option. If it is possible to schedule a specific time, will invoking the feature override the sleep function, wake up the machine and perform the software update and then let the machine go back to "sleep?" Thank you for all your help.

to clarify barney's suggestion, the following terminal command will download all available updates and put them in your Downloads folder.
    softwareupdate -d --all
so what you need to do is this.
    1. turn off automatic software update in software update system preferences.
    2. make a cron or a launch daemon to run the above terminal command periodically at the time of your choosing. to make a launch daemon I recommend using lingon http://tuppis.com/lingon/
The daemon will only run if the computer is not asleep at the scheduled time so you might want to set to to wake/start shortly before that. this is done in system preferences->energy saver->schedule.
to install the updates once they are downloaded double-click on the pkg files and follow the instructions.

  • Automatic time zone wrong post 2/21/14 security update

Updated ipad air and iphone 5s with new security update today.  For some reason, automatic time zone is now indicating I am in Chicago(central time) even though I am in Cincinnati, OH (eastern time). Anybody else having this problem?

    Hi all,
i came also across this problem. If you use APEX automatic time zone detection you only get a time zone like '+01:00'. This is insufficient to handle Daylight Savings for TIMESTMAP WITH (LOCAL) TIME ZONE in the past or in the future that differ to the current Daylight Savings.
    Try the following:
If you set your time zone to something like 'Europe/Berlin' then Oracle correctly stores/converts the data. To get this more exact timezone information, use jsTimezoneDetect (https://bitbucket.org/pellepim/jstimezonedetect/downloads) on the login page and store the result in a (hidden) item. In the page processing after the login handling, set the time zone.

  • Automatic time faulty after update to iOS 4.2

Automatic time worked fine under iOS 4.1 at home and during travel between different time zones (in Europ). Even taking into account correctly winter and summer time.
Now after the update to iOS 4.2 the time shows one hour later.
Only after switching off the automatic time feature the time is correct.
Don’t think this is meant to work like this as it used to be ok.
Do others experience the same ?
Hope soon to see an additional update to correct this.

  • Automatic run time updates

One of my customers is looking at a method for distributing and updating
the Forte runtime (not the applications) automatically to all of their
    PC (mainly Windoze 95/98) clients.
I know that there are numerous tools that do this, such as SMS or Tivoli,
but this customer has none of these - in fact there is little in the way
of centralised management apart from user management.
So has anybody built anything in Forte, or any other technology ? If they
have, please could they share a brief description of the approach used.
    Thanks,

    Hi David,
We have almost finished adding the runtime update to one of our existing
tools that might be of interest.
It's a generic client-side updating tool - it updates Forte runtime, Forte
clients, help/ini files and whatever else you need distributed.
Currently, clients must map to a file server where they read a file
containing a "command file" of things to synchronise, install or remove.
The tool is also the starting point for running all Forte client programs
(after checking that everything is up-to-date). Parameters to the program
define the particular application to run and the environment in which to run
    it.
    Other features include:
    * Ability for this tool to update itself.
    * Fast distribution of Forte clients by using compressed files (and not
    relying on Forte's installation services)
    * Audit tracking of which clients have been updated

    PC (mainly Windoze 95/98) clients.
I know that there are numerous tools that do this, such as SMS or Tivoli,
but this customer has none of these - in fact there is little in the way
of centralised management apart from user management.
So has anybody built anything in Forte, or any other technology ? If they
have, please could they share a brief description of the approach used.
    Thanks,
    - David

I'm not sure about that. But what you could try is to set the Update Preference to "Manual" and try updating at a time when the Network may not be as busy, like late at night or early in the morning.
    Just an idea.

  • New LUN Takes A long Time To Format and Errors Out

    Good afternoon,<o:p></o:p>
I have a Hyper-V Cluster composed of 4 nodes and these nodes are able to access multiple CSVs (14 in total). I recently requested a new LUN (LUN 15)to be provisioned
to my Hyper-V cluster in the size of 500GB. Here is my problem:<o:p></o:p>
    1. Formatting of a 500GB LUN (with quick format selected) should not take more than a few seconds. Instead, the quick format takes about 2hrs if not longer. I have actually
seen it go for half the day.<o:p></o:p>
    2. Once the formatting has completed (no errors), taking the formatted LUN offline freezes the Computer Management screen and shows the status (Not Responding). This
will take place for 30 minutes or less and show that the LUN has been taken offline.<o:p></o:p>
    3. In the Failover Cluster Manager, detecting the disks takes about 15 minutes. Once the available LUNs have been detected I can add the 500GB LUN to the Disks screen
    without any problems.<o:p></o:p>
    4. While in the Disks screen, adding the LUN to the Clustered Shared Volumes takes about 5 minutes (too long).<o:p></o:p>
Already seeing that there is a problem, I went ahead and used the Hyper-V Manager to create a 200GB vhd on the new LUN which has been added to the CSV. The bar indicating
the progress of the vhd creation does not display any progress (no green progress bar appears, not even a tiny bit of it) and after 3 hours (more or less) I receive an error, stating that the creation of the vhd failed.
<o:p>NOTE: The vhd shows up in Volume 9 (LUN 15) but I can only bet that it will not work, plus I would not want to work with a vhd file which failed during the
    creation process.</o:p>
<o:p>Long story short, I repeated the above steps to see if that was a temporary problem, but it is not. The same problem occurs no matter which Hyper-V cluster
node the operations are performed on. I would like to add, that I tested the creation of a vhd on an already configured LUN and the creation was completed successfully, and within a n expected time frame.</o:p>
NOTE: When LUN 15 errors out, it's status shows "Failed" in the Failover Cluster Manager. This in turn, causes the re-scanning of available disks to take forever (in Computer Management) and it keeps searching. Pretty
much, the fail of one LUN affects the entire functionality of the entire Hyper-V Cluster.
Errors Listed In Event Details For LUN 15:
    1. Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume9' ('Cluster Disk 5') is no longer accessible from this cluster node because of error 'ERROR_TIMEOUT(1460)'. Please troubleshoot this node's connectivity to the storage device and
    network connectivity.

    2. Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume9' ('Cluster Disk 5') is no longer available on this node because of 'STATUS_IO_TIMEOUT(c00000b5)'. All I/O will temporarily be queued until a path to the volume is reestablished.

3.Cluster resource 'Cluster Disk 5' of type 'Physical Disk' in clustered role '4530acc9-8552-4696-b6c3-636ff8d58c46' failed.
Based on the failure policies for the resource and role, the cluster service may try to bring the resource online on this node or move the group to another node of the cluster and then restart it.  Check the resource and group state using Failover
Cluster Manager or the Get-ClusterResource Windows PowerShell cmdlet.

    4.
Cluster resource 'Cluster Disk 5' (resource type 'Physical Disk', DLL 'clusres.dll') did not respond to a request in a timely fashion. Cluster health detection will attempt to automatically recover by terminating the Resource Hosting Subsystem (RHS)
process running this resource. This may affect other resources hosted in the same RHS process. The resources will then be restarted.
The suspect resource 'Cluster Disk 5' will be marked to run in an isolated RHS process to avoid impacting multiple resources in the event that this resource failure occurs again. Please ensure services, applications, or underlying infrastructure
(such as storage or networking) associated with the suspect resource is functioning properly.

  • Could not reuse TKEY established till expiry, Microsoft DNS refuses Dynamic updates after some minutes

We are using a DHCP Server that is sending secure (GSS-TSIG based) dynamic updates to Microsoft DNS.
After successful TKEY negotiation, the dynamic updates are accepted/success.
Established context is valid for more than 10hours in client side(Based on InitializeSecurityContext output parameter ptsExpiry
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa375507%28v=vs.85%29.aspx)
But, when we try to use the same TKEY name ( the established context  is not expired)  we are getting "Query Refused error" after some time say 8-10 minutes. Is there any transaction timeout after which client should not reuse the TKEY
context established ? Whether Microsoft DNS supports TKEY RR with mode 5 ( Delete Security Context/ Key Deletion ) so that client will delete and establish a new context for further DNS updates. Also why BADNAME/BADKEY error is not returned while refusing
    the updates?
    As per the RFC 3645,
    <RFC snip>
    4.2.1. Terminating a Context
A server can terminate any established context at any time. The
server MAY hint to the client that the context is being deleted by
including a TKEY RR in a response with the Mode field set to 5, i.e.,
"key deletion" [RFC2930]. An active context is deleted by calling
    GSS_Delete_sec_context providing the associated context_handle.
    </RFC Snip>
    1. Configured Forward Zone aswin.com
    2. Not configured Reverse Zone, so that reverse updates get NOT AUTH ( just to test error case )
    3. TKEY negotiation is successful.
    4. Sent 2 updates say at 19:52 one forward and reverse updates. Forward update is success, Reverse update failed due to reverse zone not configured, which is expected.
    5. Sent 2 updates say at 19:55 using the previously established key, Forward update is success, Reverse update failed due to reverse zone not configured, which is expected.
    6. Sent 2 updates say at 20:01(approximately after 5 minutes), Forward Dynamic update failed with Query Refused. Until  new TKEY negotiation is done all updates are failed with Query Refused. Why the same key could not be used for 10 hours(based on
Initialize security context output value). Is there any way to find how long key can be reused ?

    Hi Devi,
Based on this issue, would you please provide the netmon trace to us? I suggest taking a look at this packet. Moreover, please let me know if you tired to update the DNS record via DHCP manually.
    Thank you.

  • SAPGui Automatic Workstation update service

    Hi All:
We deployed SAPGui 720 to end users with installation server. After deployment we disabled automatic workstation update from installation server. SAP released new patch 1 for SAPGui 720 recently. We upgraded our deployment server with patch 1 and enabled automatic update but users are not getting updates.
SAP Document says once you disable automatic workstation update, it can not be undone. you need to reinstall service.
Is their any other way to enable it and get automatic update? We tried another option with double click on desktop icon 5 times to check update but it is not working.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Miral.

    ULA_RANDY,
We did the same thing ... had auto update service disabled on the server and front ends and needed to re-activiate it.
To "Turn it Back On" for your front end clients is easy.
    1) Turn Automatic Updates back ON on your server.  Change check in time and reboot switch to whatever you need.
    2) Run the following command on your front ends:
    [yourInstserver]\[share]\setup\nwsapsetup.exe /update /product=SAPWUS /NoDlg
If it runs correctly you will find additional files in the front end folder ...\Program Files\sap\sapsetup\setup\updater
You also will find WkstaUpdater.cfg (same location) to have changed entry of DISABLED =FALSE
There are many ways to run the command ... Copy/paste to Start, Run,  CMD file, Logon Script, AD Startup Script, ... we have a vb script that we push to the clients via Microsoft SCCM.  This assumes you have LSH configured so that end user does not have to have local admin rights.
Make sure your installation server is patched with the latest SAP SETUP 9.0 patch.  And watch out ... it's confusing there are TWO downloads presented for SAP SETUP 9.0.  The smaller one is setup only, the larger is a combined setup and AWUS patch.  You need the larger one.  See note 1587566
Also ... then once you have all your clients participating in Auto Update ... wait a few days, and then you can patch your server with the main 7.20 patch.  Don't dump too much on the front end clients at once
    Good luck!

  • IPod 5th Gen: no photos/videos tab, Update & Restore buttons grayed out

Hi, I've got a PowerBook G4 667 DVI with a Macally cardbus USB 2.0 adaptor. I also have a sorta new 5th Gen 60GB iPod (bought Oct 2006). Using OS X 10.4.8 and iTunes 7.0.2.
I've already reinstalled the OS and iTunes a couple of times. No luck yet.
Since day 1 with this iPod, I've had these problems (using both USB 1 and 2):
    (1) The photos and videos tabs do not appear in the iPod pane. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302583 is useless, as is the article it points to.)
    (2) The update and restore buttons are always grayed out. The iPod came PC formatted. In order to Mac format it, I tried everything, struck out with tech support on the phone, and finally had to take it to the Apple store. It worked, restored, and reformatted fine on their iMac. Took 5 minutes. But still, with my computer, I still have the same problem.
    (3) Whenever the iPod syncs, I get the following error message:
"Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because your iPod software is too old. Go to the Summary tab and click Update," yada yada.
But I can't, since Update is always grayed out. The result is that none of my iTMS purchases will sync. All my mp3s and non-FairPlay music syncs fine. My computer is registered, and I do buy/download without problems. Maybe the iPod doesn't know what account it's linked to?
    (4) Not a problem, but perhaps a cue to the cause of the others: in the Summary tab, software version and serial number are both "n/a".
Any ideas? I'm out of ideas.
    Thanks.

After about a month of not using my 5th generation iPod, I connected it to the computer... only to be greeted by the wrong icon for the iPod itself and iTunes no longer recognizing it as a 5th generation iPod. The update/restore buttons are also greyed out, and no amount of restoring on different machines and updating and reapplying OS software seems to make a difference.
You are not alone on this one. I am at a loss as to what to do software wise, since it used to work just fine.

Recently I decided to update all my sap installation server components including SAP Automatic Workstation Update.
The problem is - I can't find any patches for AWUS.
