Automatic update fail

Early this morning my install of windows 10 tech preview attempted to update itself and now it is broken and unsable.
Symptoms :  computer crashed upon first login.
After reboot:
Sound device no longer found
Cannot connect to wifi via usb wfif adapter (only way to connect to the internet btw)
Most things on the task bar from the start menu to the system tray no longer responds to a left click and the "windows key" no longer brings up the start menu.
Basically after this last round of updates (that forced a update without permission to reboot) Right now my computer has been turned into a doorstop.
I can't even access windows update...

you can download the ISO and perform clean installation of windows 10 build 10041.

  • How can I update to firefox 3.6.16 when I was advised automatic update failed?

I received a notice that firefox update 3.6.16 was ready to be installed and I clicked "install". Then I was advised the update failed. How can I get this update installed now?

This article may help - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update
You can install it by downloading the full setup file and running it. You can get it from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • Adobe automatic updates fail again

Using IE9, ActiveX version.  While scanning my computer with Secunia PSI it informed me that a new version was out and I should update to 11.5.502.110.  I always have Allow Adobe to install updates checked so I don't understand why it won't update.  I booted my mother's PC the other day and first thing was prompted to update to 11.5.502.110 so I cannot fathom why it won't update on mine.  This is not the first time this has happened as the past few updates have had to be applied manually.  I have just used the Adobe Uninstaller and cleared out the Flash folders and re-installed the latest version, so for now everything is okay.  I just wish this automatic update system would work.  I may as well just switch to the not recommended option of Never install updates.

On Windows, a system reboot is required for the update notification dialog to appear.  To troubleshoot if that dialog is working properly on your system, please try the following steps.
Navigate into your Flash Player folder from a command prompt
    64bit systems - C:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash ("cd c:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash")
    32bit systems - C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash ("cd c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash")
Depending on your browser, type the command without quotes:
Internet Explorer - "FlashUtil32_VERSION_NUMBER_HERE_ActiveX.exe -update activex"
Other browsers - "FlashUtil32_VERSION_NUMBER_HERE_Plugin.exe -update plugin"
That should start the update notification dialog.

  • Windows 7: Flash Player automatic update fails due missing admin privilege. UAC issue?

The Windows 7 account I am using has admin privilege.
The automatic update displays an error message pop-up. In English it would be something like: "The installation encountered errors: You need administrator privlige to install Adobe Flash Player. Please log on as an administrator and try again."
At Windows 7 I am using the standard UAC security level settings and I am not willing to lower them. I am also not willing to install a Player update manually for three browsers every other week.
    Any solution?
    Thanks

Your page http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html mirrors my Flash Player as
    at Chrome: 11.2.202.229
    at Firefox: 10.3.183.11
    at IE: 10.3.183.11
So I manually update once more for Firefox and once more for IE and hope it will update automatically from then on.
    Thanks

  • Automatic update failed because I chose DO not Allow. Now, cannot connect to any servers. How do I fix this?

Yesterday Firefox did an automatic update. I was in a hurry out the door when I chose what I think was the wrong option. The options were., "Allow Always, "Allow only Once, or "Do Not Allow". I either chose allow only once, or do not allow because now I cannot connect to any server through Mozilla Firefox. How do I fix this problem?

Was that a message from your firewall?
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Automatic Update Fails to Install

HP sends automatic update that is critical to the communication between computer and printer. The update downloads fine, but when I go to install, it only installs approx. one third and stops. The install failure is DOT 4 Scrubber. Any advice would be appreciated. Operating sys is XP Pro and printer is HP L7555.

    Tenmillbill, welcome to the forum.
Here is the Software & Driver page for the printer.  There is a firmware update.  This may help solve your problem if it isn't already installed.

  • HP Automatic Updates Fail

Every time an automatic software update arrives from HP it downloads but fails to install. Any ideas what the problem might be? I have an IQ508a, Norton. Thanks

do u know which update its failing on?  and what the error message is?
what you might want to try is install it manually by clicking on the "support & drivers" link and select download drivers, enter your PC model then click go and then choose the Vista 64 bit option, you should see a list of all the updates for your PC there, try and download the update that keeps failing to your desktop and the try and run it locally... hopefull that will help.
if it still fails, let us know what (if any) error message is displayed - this might help us to determine what course of action next to take.

  • Important Securinty Update: Automatic update failed-froze. I have Mac, Firefox 4

On Wednesday I tried to upload the Firefox Upgrade when it popped up. It failed to load
Today another popup advised that I upgrade for security. Let it run and it froze up.
I have anew MacBook Pro OX 10.6.8 with Firefox 4. What should I manually upgrade to?

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • ITunes 10.5.3 update failes to install

    Window 7 64-bit currently running iTunes10.5.2.11
Every time i try and run the update for iTunes 10.5.3.3 x64 installer, it goes so far as to ask where to install (yes I ran the download manually after the automatic update failed a few times).
Each time it failes almost immeadiately with the error:
"The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured.
Errors occured during installation. Your system has not been modified.
Please run the installer again, or click Finish to exit."
    I noticed a few things.
    a) The version number in about iTunes does not show the x64 after it like the splash screen for 10.5.3
    b) My iTunes is installed in Program Files (x86) which is where 32 bit versions generally get installed.
So do I currently have the 32 bit version installed and the auto installer is tring to update it to the 64 bit and that is why it fails?
I've tried run the install to Program Files instead of Program Files (x86). Fails just the same. Do I need to uninstall iTunes and reinstall to get the update to work?
Or is the 10.5.3 install just borked?

Try downloading the package for new installs. the update package failed, but the new install package worked for me without any trouble.
    History:
I began this trouble shooting exercise by selecting Download Only through the Apple Update applet. Running the msi manually did not resolve the problem. In fact, it was more frustrating because the download package would disappear after running even though it failed, and I had to download it again. "Cleanup" I suppose. <frown>
I followed advice to remove the Apple Software Update program, reboot and re-run the msi. That did not resolve the failure.
I then followed advice to set permissions for Administrators on registry key HKLM\Software\Micorosoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Com ponents
then reboot and run the update msi again. This also did not resolve the failure.
I downloaded the installer from the Apple download site as though it were a fresh install, and - voila! - it installed correctly and all content and settings were preserved. Hopefully that is all that is needed, not the steps above. Let me know! http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

  • Automatic Updating Flash Player

I am set to receive Flash Player updates automatically. I am now getting an error message telling me that "Adobe Flash Player 11.3.r300 has encountered a problem and needs to close. I receive this message numerous times throughout the day.
I also get the following message, "The instruction at 0x007a0283 referenced at 0x887a7be2. The memory could not be written".
I am running Windows XP SP3 with all updates with Internet Explore 8 as the browser. I also have Google Chrome on the PC.
When the automatic update fails and I get the above message, I tried to manually install the updates from the Adobe site. I get the message to close all browsers, which I did and that Adobe flash Player is installed on Google Chrome.
Any suggestions as how I may fix this problem?

I've been seeing the same or a simiar error on XPSP3 systems ever since they auto updated to 11.3.300.265 (from 11.3.300.257).  Adobe?
The error log shows "Faulting application FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe, version 11.3.300.265, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.5755, fault address 0x000113c0."

After installing the new 11.1 Itunes, Windows automatic updates fail to install any new updates.
The last time this happened was when I last updated Itunes. I can't remember how I fixed it but I had to go into the apple software and fix something.

  • Acrobat 8.1 fails to open after automatic update

I installed CS3 a month ago and everything worked well until last week after an automatic update to Acrobat was installed. Since then, whenever I try to open Acrobat, I get the windows error "Adobe Acrobat 8.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close..." I tried to download and install the latest update but that didn't fix the problem.
Also, I tried to report it to Adobe online but never got a response and now I can't find where I reported it to see what the status is.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Still failing to launch after repairing permissions and restart.
    Part of the report says:
    AcroSecurityBailOutImpl
It has always opened the file when I try a second or third time, though.
It's just the first once or twice that it fails.

  • Attempt to run automatic update to LightRoom 5.7 fails with error 1402

When I opened and started to work in LightRoom 5.6 on my Windows 7 64-bit PC a notification was displayed in a popup alerting me that a newer version, version 5.7 was available and asked me if I wanted to install it.  I clicked yes, and was taken to an Adobe page to download the upgrade.  So far, so good.  The 976MB “Lightroom_5_LS11_win_5_7.exe” file successfully downloaded.  Sadly, when I attempted to run this exe, it failed to complete, displaying the following error message in a popup.
    Error 1402.Could not open key:

While the exe file provided by Adobe did not harm my existing LR 5.6 installation, I “think” I would like to install their Automatic Update, but am unable to do so.

    Hi psale,
Try to right click on the installer, and choose Run as Administrator.
    See if that helps.
Otherwise this looks like a permissions issue, perhaps you don't have write access to your registry?
Try creating a new admin user, and see if you can complete the install successfully there: Create a user account - Windows Help
    Hope this helps,
    Regards
    Pete
