Automatic Update Firmware Fix didn't work?

I have some graphic pixel glitches and sometimes my iMac is freezing. So I wait until Apple released the Firmware fix. When I installed the Firmware Fix using the automatic updater I noticed that the updater didn't want to restart my iMac - which makes me wonder because I think a firmware update is something to restart your Mac - or am I wrong.
Ok, after the Update I made myself a restart and my iMac freezed withing a minute and I had some pixel glitches on my Desktop. So I moved my iMac to the Apple Store for replacement.
Yesterday I got a call from them - saying that I didn't made the Firmware Fix and they did it now and that everything is working now?? So I ask myself, did the update manager didn't install the firmware fix propper?
To all of you still having problems with your iMac - try to download the patch and install it manualy again - if the patch don't shout that it is installed already - install it and your problems should be gone.

Thanks Steve,
but what I wonder about is that the firmware update was in my regular automatic update list. I installed the update as any other updates but the Mac didnt restart after this update. I thought this is ok but it seems not. So I think the firmware update that comes with the regular updater had a problem and didnt install propper without letting the user know. At the Apple Store they found out that the firmware update is not installed - I think this is a bit confusing to people who only run the normal updater and don't know how to install a firmware update. So if there are any more people out there who think that they did the firmware update - but the freezing or pixel problems are still happen - download the firmware manualy and install the firmware update again. If the update is already installed you get a message so there is no way to harm your mac.

  • My Aurora Automatically updated and now its not working at all.I cant uninstall it to install firefox.

I'm using the beta Aurora, and it was working fine until it automatically update. It's not working anymore. The short cut key in desktop changes and when you click it. it says"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item". I cannot uninstall it to install a new firefox.

Delete the shortcut you have at the moment and then create a new one as follows:<br><br>
    #Use Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox.<br><br>
#Right click '''firefox.exe''' and choose '''Send To''', then '''Desktop (Create shortcut)'''<br>
Bear in mind that you're using an BETA version of Firefox and you're likely to encounter similar issues in the future.

  • How can I confirm the automatic updater of revoked certificates is working?

    There is a
Microsoft security advisory from a few weeks ago about fraudulent certificates. In the advisory it says it is revoking India's NIC authority certificate and for systems running Windows 7 that are using the automatic updater of certificates that no action
    is needed.
I don't know if I'm running the automatic updater of certificates. I tried installing the referenced
KB2677070 but it says "The update is not applicable to your computer." And I don't see it listed as an installed update for this computer.
I went into certmgr.msc and I don't see India's NIC certificates listed as untrusted.
I'm running Windows 7 SP1 x64. How can I tell if I'm running the automatic updater of revoked certificates and how can I confirm that it's working? How can I see what certificates the automatic updater has revoked?

    Hi,
afaik these updates are just coming in over Windows update. Your KB2677070 might be superseeded ba another update, or included in a rollup you installed.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc734054(v=ws.10).aspx : You can verify that the Automatic Root Certificates Update component is working properly by using a Web browser to open a Web site that requires the Automatic Root Certificates Update
component. When you open this Web site, a new root certificate is downloaded from the Microsoft Windows Update Web site. If the certificate is downloaded successfully, Event ID 1 in the Microsoft-Windows-CAPI2 event source will be written to the event log.

  • Automatic Update for podcasts doesn't work

    The hardware/software:
iPod Classic, updated to the very latest version of the software.
iTunes, also updated to the most recent version.
    Mountain Lion.
    17" MacBook Pro.
I subscribe to quite a few podcasts (>50). Until recently, iTunes would automatically update them--check for new episodes and download them--automatically once every hour. Since I updated something--whether it be iTunes, MacOS, or something else--this automatic check simply doesn't happen.
If I go into iTunes under Podcasts, there is a "Settings..." button at the bottom. I click this and this is what it says:
Check for new episodes: EVERY HOUR
    Settings for: PODCAST DEFAULTS
    [checked] Use Default Settings
When new episodes are available: DOWNLOAD ALL
Episodes to keep: ALL UNPLAYED EPISODES
So it should, every hour, get all new episodes, download them, and quietly delete played episodes (I allow auto-delete).
It doesn't. I have sat and watched it. Nothing at all tries to update. So I end up manually updating--clicking the "Refresh" button--a lot.
I have spot-checked most of my subscribed podcasts, and each of them has the "Use default settings" checkbox checked, and every single one has "Every hour" selected.
(As a secondary issue: If I go in and set a single podcast to not update or to update less frequently, it resets the default to whatever I set for that podcast. This can't be right, can it?)
Any ideas? Have I missed a crucial setting somewhere? Is this a known bug?

  • Some emails keep being reloaded, even from 2+years ago. Forum-suggested fixes didn't work.

Tbird regularly loads emails 2, 3, even 4 or more times from my Hotmail account. (Some, not all - seems random.) Sometimes, I've read them but not deleted them, but most times, I've already deleted them from Tbird (though I still want them in Hotmail). I know it's not because I'm being sent the message more than once, because some are automatic, news updates, and others are suddenly showing up from weeks ago. Other forum suggestions have not worked - I've deleted hidden trash files, removed everything from inbox to local folders, deleted trash and junk, compacted all folders (had already been doing this periodically), etc., and NOTHING CHANGES. I started deleting a bunch of old emails from my inbox (had accumulated too many, I know), and now it wants to download 1900 messages every time I try to get mail - even emails from 2012! I can't use Tbird at all now. One forum suggested that I change from POP3 to IMAP, but I want to keep emails in folders on my PC, because I live in Uganda and can't always get online, but need info from the msgs. I don't want to lose emails in the online site either, so I don't want to delete them from there. I've never had this prob before, and I've used Tbird for YEARS. Ready to drop it and try another client. HELP!

It sounds like your Popstate.dat file has got corrupted.
It keeps a record of what has been downloaded so that it does not redownload emails. Clearly, something has wrong.
You would need to delete the 'popstate.dat file and then Thunderbird will create a new one. The downside is that it will download everything that is on your server Inbox again, but just once.
If you really need to store email on the webmail account, I would do the following in the order shown to avoid downloading all those emails.
'''1. Logon to webmail using a browser.'''
Pop mail accounts can only get access to the server Inbox, so move all your older emails - eg: everything older than eg: a month into other folders in the webmail account.
This will prevent a complete redownload of all those emails.
''' 2. make hidden files and folders visible on your computer'''
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
The AppData folder is folder is a hidden folder; to show hidden folders, open a Windows Explorer window and choose "Organize → Folder and Search Options → Folder Options → View (tab) → Show hidden files and folders".
    '''3. Locate popstate.dat file '''
    In Thunderbird:
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * Click on 'Show Folder'
A new window opens showing your Profile folder.
    * '''Close Thunderbird now - this is important'''
    * Click on 'Mail' folder
    * click on mail account name
    * locate and delete this file: '''popstate.dat'''
    Restart Thunderbird.
It will download anything left in the webmail server Inbox.
You can easily remove the duplicate emails.

  • I haven't been able to get on firefox for weeks! it crashes on opening within seconds. i reinstalled hoping that it needed to be updated but that didn't work. it won't even open in safe mode. i am desperate...

all of a sudden a few weeks ago i cannot get on firefox. it crashes immediately upon startup every time no matter what and crash reporter arrives. i have researched all the articles and followed their suggestions. i installed the newest version of firefox and still get the same results. i can't even open firefox in safe mode. i dont' know what else to try and really need my favorite browser back and all my bookmarks and passwords...

since i exhausted every angle throughout january and early february, i really can't pinpoint what made the difference today but... IT'S WORKING NOW! firefox had been deleted from my computer for a few weeks now so with renewed determination i searched every single folder on my entire hard drive and found 3 random files with mozilla or part of the word mozilla in them and deleted them. i shut down the computer and restarted it a few hours later. i downloaded firefox 10 (even higher version than the one i was updating to a month ago) from google chrome and installed it. so thank you for your input and effort to help!

  • Fix didn't work, nor did reimport of 32 GB

After trying Chris CA's fix, the music library was still incorrect, despite "Copy files to iTunes" being checked.
I created a new, empty library. Impoertd one cd. Quit. - THe library works where it is and all iTunes 'special' files are in place -
I then opened iTunes, and dropped good copies of my iTunes music into the library window. After an all night copying session, I am left with the following.
1 album (the original) in my library.
iTunes with the correct library address, but all the music added.
(Odd, I thought, as there is only one album fodler in the iTunes Music folder)
So i got info on a few tracks.
iTunes has placed them all in the Trash, maintaining the folder structure.
The iTunes .xml file says that they arelocated in:
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/Pythagoras160/RAH%20iTunes%20Library/iTunes%20Music/_.. And%20You%20Will%20Know%20Us%20By%20the%20Trail%20of%20Dead/The%20Best%20(Live)%20-%20Single/01%20The%20Best.m4p</string>
But the info on the track in the iTunes library says, emphasis mine,
Pythagoras160:.Trashes:501:new iTunes Library:_..And You Will Know US By The Trail of Dead:The Best (Live) - Single:01 The Best.m4p
And, despite it being in the trash, it plays.
Suggestions on how I can get all of my music into that folder and have iTunes realise that it is there? Telling it to copy the music into the folder in preferences doesn't seem to have worked.
No, I'm not planning on emptying the trash.

Do you have the orange Firefox button, which is an abbreviated menu?
If you have no menus ''and'' no toolbars, check that you're not in full screen mode. Use the F11 key to switch between full screen and normal modes.
To reset your menus and toolbars, you can use Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, close Firefox, hold the Shift key on the keyboard, and restart. You should get a dialog with various reset options. The only one to check is toolbars. More info: [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode].
    Does that help?

  • Update 04-06 didn't work

I installed the new update for volume limit. The iPod updater says that my ipod is up to date.... but there is not volume limit option in my settings menu on the ipod screen. I don't think it worked. Can anyone help?

Won't the Mini and other Ipods get the Volume limiter? It seems strange that only select Ipods get the Limiter. I suspect that the vast majority of Ipod users are in need of this important update.

  • Beats audio keeps crashing-tried fix, didn't work

Hi, my Beats Audio wasn't really working so I tried what the guy told us to do on this post but when I tried to reinstall IDT, this message came up:  'The detected hardware is not supported by this IDT software package'
    Original post: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-PC-Sound-and-Audio/Beats-Audio-keeps-crashing/td-p/1547593

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update, select 'View update history' in the left hand pane and then select 'Installed updates' link in the following window.
Locate update KB2962407, right click it and select Uninstall.  When done, restart the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update and select 'Check for updates'.  You'll see the update you just uninstalled being offered again - right click and select 'Hide Update'.
When windows has reloaded, use recovery manager to reinstall your original IDT HD Audio driver as detailed in the document on the link below.
    Recovery Manager - Windows 8.
When the reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook.
