Automatic update stalls at conecting to update server (Mac)

The last several times the automatic update window comes up it says "downloading firefox" on the top of the progress bar and under it it says "connecting to update server..." and it stalls right there and never gets any further no matter how long I leave the update window open. I currently have Mac 7.0.1 installed and it has not been successful in getting past that point multiple times over multiple days. Now what? If I download a new firefox don't I then lose all my bookmarks, etc.? Updating is the only way to keep them - correct?
My mac system is OX 10.5.8

I found how to copy my bookmarks in case I'd lose them doing a separate install of the program and then manually downloaded version 8 point whatever it is that is most current. It then wouldn't copy to my applications folder to install!! (downloaded fine, went to drag it in the install window and it wouldn't do it). Is the problem that version of the mac ox 10.5.8 is now ancient enough that programs are starting not to work with them? Other? A gremlin now inhabits my mac? (I did run a virus, etc. checker and allegedly my mac is clean).

    Tanks

If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • Automatically updating files on local testing Server

I'm using EasyPHP-5.3.5.0 as a testing server on my local machine (I've use EasyPHP for several years). I set up the Site Definition in DW8 using the testing server root folder (www) as the development area; however, this caused problems when I attempted to upload from within DW to the Remote (production) server.  I then modified the Site Definition to use a local folder. other then the Testing Server folder, for development which solved the upload problem.  Then in the Site Definition I setup the Testing Server using the "PHP MySQL" model with "Local/Network" access. The Testing Server folder was set to "C:\Program Files\EasyPHP-5.3.5.0\" and the "Refresh Testing file list automatically" box was checked.  The URL prefex was set to "http://127.0.0.1:8888/" as defined in the EasyPHP instructions.  My problem is that Dreamweaver is not updating the files on the testing server when I save a file in the development folder. The development folder and the Testing Server reside on the same computer. If I copy and paste a file to the testing server everything works fine.  I would like the testing server files to be automatically updated when I save a file in the development folder which is what the Site Definition seems to indicate should happen.  Any thoughts on what the problem is and how to fix it would be appreciated.

Oh - I see. I think this will be hard to do. You'd need to
    get a local
certificate and all - not sure how to go about that....

  • How do I get a reliable schedule for automatic update in Windows Server 2012 R2?

I don't understand why MS broke the automatic update in Windows Server 2012 R2. In previous versions, I used to set it for automatic updates - Saturdays at 2AM. I can no longer pick a weekly update in the GUI and the time seems to have no impact on its capricious
reboots due to updates.   It might happen 2 days later at noon.   The best option for now is to just shut off the automatic updates but I'm reading this issue has been around since 2012 R1.   There supposedly is a fix/patch for
2012 but it doesn't say if the patch is for 2012 R2 and the automatic updates haven't installed a fix that actually fixes what is broken with the automatic updates.
Why even leave the GUI for automatic updates if it doesn't mean anything?
Is there a simple registry key I can change so updates occur according to the schedule that you created in the GUI?      Please no powershell - worst crutch MS ever created to not fix their own gui.
I'm seeing people have tried some advanced work around using GPO but many said those don't work reliably either on hosts or domain controllers.

  • Windows performed an automatic update. I am now unable to use Firefox. I receive an error message "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server". Windows IE works, Outlook works. What did Microsoft do to me this time?!!!

Windows performed an automatic update on my PC this morning. Now, Firefox does not work other than in SAFE mode. I get "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server..." I downloaded and reinstalled the latest version of Firefox and get the same error message. IE works. MS Outlook works. What did Windows do to me this time?

You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy" if the default "Use the system proxy settings" setting doesn't work.
    See "Firefox connection settings":

  • Configuring Automatic Updates using Powershell for Server 2012: wsuaserv service invalid

This server is configured as a core server (no gui).
In the following article, to enable automatic updates, one method is to configure the wsuaserv service:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj574100.aspx
Doing the first step, I get the following:
    c:\windows>net stop wsuaserv
    The service name is invalid.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2185.
Why do I get this and how can I fix it?

Uh, he meant the command at the bottom on the referenced web page, not the net helpmsg.
If you look at the original post, the name of the service IS incorrect, just as you specified it incorrectly.  The service name is 'wuauserv'.  So it is not Microsoft has renamed the service; you have tried to rename the service. <wink>

  • Show server time on a page (automatically updating)

    hi
Please consider the use-case where the server time should be shown on a page and be automatically updated.
This example application created using JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 illustrates two approaches
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2010/ServerTimeOnPageApp-v0.01.zip
as shown in the screencast at http://screencast.com/t/JEpxP4ckz7p
The approach using an af:poll component seems to have issues when a FacesMessage is shown in a dialog. The af:poll component seems to cause the FacesMessage dialog to be closed automatically, and the polling seems to stop until the mouse is moved.
The approach using af:activeOutputText and a BaseActiveDataModel implementation does not seem to have the same issues as the approach using the af:poll component. But, pointers to documentation that guides to a robust implementation are welcome (I mainly used "ADF BC and the Active Data Service", "ADF’s Active Data Service and scalar data (like activeOutputText)" and "ActiveModelContext").
All suggestions for improvements or alternative implementations are welcome.
    many thanks

Some feedback (or is it "excuses") I got in service request 3-2369020191 :
    - about (q3) Why is bug 10338256 not a bug but an enhancement request?
... We currently don't have the API to start ActiveDate on PPR Request. So we want to treat this bug as enhancement request, rather then the bug. ...- about (q4) Where has been documented that adding "active" components dynamically (via PPR) to a page is not supported?
... Since we did not come across this usecase before it is not documented ...- about (q5) in general about bounded task-flows that somehow make use of ADS
(silence)But, in the meantime, not as part of a bounded task-flow but on a regular page, using an af:exportCollectionActionListener component seems to cause the af:activeOutputText to stop actively/automatically change its value.
Using the modified example application ...
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2011/ServerTimeOnPageApp-v0.05.zip
... this export/download behaviour is shown in scenario (sc2) the screencast at http://screencast.com/t/AuFCXtnOFngM
(I suggest to refer to the behaviour leading to bug/ER 10338256 as scenario (sc1) in this context, as illustrated before using JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0, and using JDeveloper 11.1.1.4.0.)
    questions:
    - (q6) Can the behaviour in scenario (sc2) be reproduced?
    - (q7) Is the behaviour in scenario (sc2), stopping to actively/automatically change when exporting/downloading, related to bug/ER 10338256? If not, how can it be explained/avoided?
    thanks

  • Can't connect to my sql server express 14 database following an automatic update on my pc [Closed]

    hi
following an automatic update a few minutes ago that resulted in a pc re-start, i cannot connect to my database anymore.
is there any solution to overcome this issue?
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
ps: i never got server or instance related error before the update
    Cheers

in case it might help, i've finally found the solution:
-enable/start sql server browser from sql server configuration manager
-update status to "enabled" for all protocol names in my instance

  • Server 2003 Automatic Update Greyed out

I have a primary Server 2003 that has the automatic up feature greyed out. I found the group policy setting on the domain controller and changed it with a reboot but it is still greyed out. I also have 3 member servers where the automatic updates are greyed out and can not be change. Does anyone know why the option is greyed out under the administrator account? Any help would be appreciated.

When an option is greyed out in the user interface this is typically caused by an applied Group Policy Object (GPO)
Using rsop.msc on the console of your server you can see which Group Policy Object on what level (Local settings, Active Directory Site settings, Active Directory Domain settings, settings from Organizational Units) applies the setting. You can then change the setting in the right Group Policy Object(s).
More information on running rsop.msc on Windows Server 2003 can be found in Microsoft Knowledgebase article 323276.

  • Automatic updates maxing out CPU on windows server 2003

Since this last roll out of updates that have come through I have noticed on my 2003 servers that the automatic update service is maxing out the cpu.  The updates are simple downloading and are set for a deadline, so the updates have not officially
installed yet. They are all virtual machines running in an VMware environment.  They are Server 2003 SP2 x86 machines. Any suggestions would be appreciated.  When I turn the automatic update service back on the cpu pegs.

I read that IE and Automatic Updates are correlated and if there is a cumulative update waiting for IE then this can cause the CPU issue.  For me I had IE 6 still on my Windows 2003 servers and I installed this update that came out just recently:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=41033
After you install this and reboot, then things settle down and you will see the rest of the updates you've approved in WSUS ready to install (if you have any).
I'm pretty sure this will fix it for you.
Note - just for reference, the KB is KB2888505

Yes. However this is the process I should have recommened. Remove the plist as mentioned about then restart the computer in Safe Mode and then try Software Update in Safe Mode. Once done then restart normally. A Safe Mode restart will clear some caches, it's possible one has become corrupt.
