Automatic updates when not connected to WiFi

When I am on WiFi it seems like my automatic app updates always happen, but when I am using just cellular data, it doesn't seem to automatically update them, even though I have the option to use cellular data for automatic downloads turned on. I'll go into the app store and the update will just sit there and I'll have a red badge on my app store icon. As soon as I connect to a WiFi, the updated automaticaly downloads. I have all the settings turned on so it should update automatically even when I'm not on WiFi. Maybe it takes longer for the update to download when you are using cellular data? Anyone else experience this at all?

Do you have Settings > "iTunes & App Store" settings for "Updates" enabled and "Use Cellular Data" enabled.  You need this in addition to "Cellular Data" and "App Store" enabled in the Settings > Cellular tab.  This is one of the times where 2 places in Settings have to be enabled -- "iTunes & App Store" and "Cellular" for the auto updates to work over your cellular network.

  • App crashes when not connected to wifi

Our dps app crashes on iphone and ipad(3) when not connected to wifi. I would expect a "you are not connected to the internet" error to appear, and then any previously downloaded issues to work, except for external links. Is this possible?
    Thanks!

There was a hotfix for this put out just after V25.
Unfortunetly you have to rebuild your viewer and submit and update to Apple. From my experience they were very quick about approving the update because of the critical nature of the update even without putting in an expediated review request, but that was over a month ago.

  • No access to songs when not connected to wifi....

I'm using iTunes Match. When not connected to wifi, I don't have access to all songs on iPhone or iPad. How do I fix this?

    Hello Jim,
Thanks for the reply! I knew I could download the songs and have them permanently on my devices. I subscribed to Match with the understanding that I could access all songs that I've ripped from CDs on any device at any time. As it stands now, I can only listen to a handful of songs. When not connected to wifi most song titles appear lighter. Those are the ones I can't play when not connected to wifi. Songs I can play are listed in bold. Any idea what's going on here?
    Thanks!

  • HT4059 how can i read books when not connected to wifi , at the moment have to g through apps store , which requires a connection . I want the books on the i pad not in  a acloud

How can i read books purchased from i books when not connected to wifi . At the moment can only access via app store , which can only do when connected . I want top download to the device , not keep in a cloud!

If you download them via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app on your iPad then they should show in the Books collection on the app's bookshelf - and you should be able to read any books that you download from the store to your bookshelf without needing to be online.

  • TS4062 can I save music to my ipad so it is available when not connected to wifi

I am not sure it is possible to have my music available when not connected to wifi.  at this point have synced and resynced. what am I doing wrong?

Unless you are subscribed to iTunes Match a network connection is not necessary to listen to your music. If you are subscribed to iTM then, yes, a network connection is necessary for any music that has not been downloaded to the device. With iTM disabled on an iOS device traditional syncing of music via USB is disabled, which would explain why no music is syncing.
To store music on the iOS device for offline playback go to an Album, Artist or Playlist and tap the "download all" button at either the top or bottom of the list. Or, if you want to sync a larger number of tracks quickly, disable iTunes Match on the device, launch the Music app and let the content clear out, connect the device to your computer via USB, sync, then re-enable iTM.

How can I listen to my itunes on my ipad (3) when not connected to wifi? It shows a screen stating that the Itunes store can not be accessed.

You have to sync your music to your iPad, this can be done from a WiFi connection to your iCloud account for those purchased from the iTunes store.  Non-iTunes music has to be synced using iTunes Match, a fee is charged for that premium service.

  • Mac KeyChain Access App Hangs when NOT connected to WiFi

    Hi,
I am facing a problem with Keychain Access hanging and wifi connection in OS X 10.9.1 (Mavericks).
I use a Time Capsule as a base station and 13" Macbook Air (2012). The base station is connected to the internet through a PPOE connection.
    Here are the details.
Since upgrading to OS X 10.9.1, my Mac automatically connects to preferred wifi network ONLY WHEN the wifi is available at start up or when the Mac wakes up from sleep, but not otherwise.
Before the upgrade, the Mac automatically connected to the preferred wifi network not just at start up, but whenever the wifi became available.
In other words, after the upgrade, if I boot up the Time Capsule base station and the Mac simultaneously, the Mac scans for the base station wifi network (this is configured as the top preferred wifi network) at start up, but since the base staion is still booting up, the Mac doesn't find the wifi.
But once the base station has booted up and wifi is available, the Mac no longer bothers to join it.
At this point, if I click on the Keychain Access application, IT HANGS (I see a rainbow-colored rotating disc/ball).  And it continues to hang UNLESS I do ONE of the following to get the Mac connected to the wifi.
    1. I manually select the preferred wifi network using the wifi icon at the top of the screen;  OR
    2. I put the Mac to sleep (by closing the cover) and then wake it up.  On wake up, it connects automatically to the preferred wifi network; OR
    3. I turn off the wifi (using the wifi icon on the top) and turn it back on, at which point, the Mac automatically connects to the preferred wifi network.
As soon as the Mac gets connected to the WiFi, the Keychain Access application STOPS hanging and open up normally.
I also noticed that Keychain Access DOESN'T HANG (even if the Mac is not connected to the wifi), if I do the following:
    1. Go to Network preferences;
    2. Uncheck "Ask to join new networks";
    3. Click on the "Advanced" button, select wifi tab, and remove all preferred wifi networks and uncheck "Remember networks this computer has joined".
I obviously want to set preferred wif networks, so the above workaround to avoid Keychain Access hanging is not acceptable.
I have tried everything possible including contacting Apple support, but so far the issue is still unresolved.
Appreciate any help you can provide.
    Prem

  • HT4914 Access to music when not connected to WiFi?

Can I play music from my device if I am not in a WiFi area with iTunes Match?

Well....turns out it was a brain-**** on my part.
In my last dealings with iTunes, I had to play thru the iTunes interface (pc).
Turns out the little music (DUH) icon on the desktop is what I need to be using.
Thanks for your help tho, and I didnt mean to hijack your thread ;-)

  • Does notification drain battery even when not connected to wifi?

well if not going over WiFi it would use GPRS/EDGE or 3G and that would drain battery instead.

  • IBooks drains battery when not connected to Wifi

Since the release of Yosemite, there is a bug in iBooks that causes it to drain the battery on my MacBook Pro.  Here are the repro steps:
    1. Turn Wifi off.
    2. Launch iBooks
    3. Wait a few seconds.
Observed behavior:  The laptop gets really hot and the projected battery life remaining goes way down.
Looking at Activity monitor, there is a process called storeaccountd that has pegged the CPU at about 100% and it stays there as long as iBooks is open.  If I connect Wifi or quit iBooks, the problem goes away.  I discovered this when I tried to read a book in iBooks while on an 8 hour flight.  iBooks was pretty much useless because I didn't have a Wifi connection.
There's another thread in the Yosemite section where others have also confirmed the problem:
iBooks runs "storeaccountd" process that runs CPU at 100% and drain battery

Same problem here in Vienna. I can count down the battery percentage on my MBA11 mid2013, while ibook tries to connect somewhere.
I tried it with updates, but this annoying behavior still continues.
Really disappointed by apple, I will swap to another program to read my books.
I tried also following steps from another forum post, and this helped until now:
reset PRAM by real restarting the mac and pressing option+cmd+"p"+"r" twice
--this brings some settings to factory - don't wipe your hardest here! just restart again.
delete plist in your terminal (launchpad/others/terminal) by following two inputs:
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    killall Dock
I can not find the original post now, but I thank here for the person, who gave this temporary solution.
    OS-X 10.10.1 MBA-11 Mid 2013
power with safari on (now): 527mA
now turning ibooks on (wifi on): 895mA and back to 629mA
now closing ibooks / turning wifi off and turning ibooks on: 621-->454mA (552 to 777 with wlan on again)
