Automatically backup new exchange database on standalone Exchange server

Hello,
I´m currently setting up a backup against a Exchange Server 2013. One thing I noticed when I added created a new Exchange database was that it was not automatically backup up by DPM.
I've checked the box "Exchange 2013 databases" but after I created the fifth databases I noticed that it was not automatically checked in DPM and also that the box "Exchange 2013 databases" was unchecked.
How can I make sure that new Exchange databases are backuped automatically?

Hi,
DPM does not offer an exchange auto-protect feature like we have for SQL.  You will need to add them manually as they get created on the exchange server.

You'd have to think through this, but it seems like if you are using Outlook, and the items vanished from the Outlook client as well as the server, that you could re-populate Outlook using iTunes.

  • Old DB in Queue Viewer of New Exchange server

Exchange 2013 SP no DAG. A couple of days ago we migrated from one exchange 2013 sp1 server to another exchange 2013 sp1 server. This new server seems to running fine with the exception that the old DB is in the new server's queue viewer:
New DB is mailbox database and the other DB is the old DB. How do I get the old DB out of the queue. The old exchange server has NOT been removed/uninstalled. We want to keep the old server (powered off) for a couple days to make sure things are working
    OK.

How did you remove the old server you migrated from?
Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
We have not removed it as of yet because we want to make sure everything is working correctly before we uninstall exchange.
@Amy, yes the old DB shows up when running that command. The server that holds that DB is powered off and ECP says it is dismounted.
Also, it seems this old DB, its message count keeps going up in number. When I suspend that DB, all SMTP mail stops. I dismounted the old DB on the new server and when I try to mount it again on the new server:
Failed to mount database "Mailbox Database 0119046452". Error: An Active Manager operation failed. Error: The database
action failed. Error: Operation failed with message: MapiExceptionDatabaseError: Unable to mount database.

  • New Exchange Server 2013 in a Exchange 2007 Org, can't get cu's to install

    Hi,
We have an Exchange Server 2007 in our organization. I installed an Exchange Server 2013 but could not get the CU3 to install, would throw exceptions. I tried CU2 and it got a lot further but failed to start a service near the end. Don't ask for specifics
as I got frustrated and blew this machine away and installed a fresh VM. I read that you can install the CU's as if they are a fresh installation. I tried this but it fails saying "the Exchange server is in an inconsistant stet....recover". There
    IS no Exchange server yet!!
What am I doing wrong? I used the command line for CU3, like: setup /mode:install /roles:ca,mb,mt /IAccept blah blah blah. I didn't set powershell execution policy, not sure if that was it. Are there switches I am missing? I want to see if I can install
the Exchange CU3 right from the get-go.
    HeLp!

    Hi,
According to the error message, this issue may occur if the previous Exchange installation or un-install failed to complete. This situation leaves the Exchange server
object in Active Directory and prevents a new installation.
    We can try:
    1. Install ADSI Edit.
    2. Launch ADSI Edit. To do this, click Start, click Run, type adsiedit.msc in the text box, and then click OK.
    3. Locate the Exchange server object by going to the following location: CN=Configuration, DC= Domain Name, DC=com, CN=Services, CN=Microsoft Exchange, CN=<Organization
    Name>, CN=Administrative Groups, CN= <Exchange Administrative Group>, CN=Servers, CN=<Server Name>.
    4. Delete the server object.
    5. Remove the Exchange server's machine account from Security groups Exchange Servers and Exchange Install Domain Servers.

  • Unable to install new Exchange server

    Hello all,
The basics of this is that I had an exchange 2007 server install that went wrong and now there is an additional exchange server in ADSI edit.  I have brought in a completely new server and gave it the same name.  When I go to install exchange 2010
server, I get an error message.  ""Some Controls aren't valid.  The exchange server is in an inconsistent state.  Only disaster recovery mode is available.  Please use Setup/M:RecoverServer to recover this exchange server.""
I don't want to do a recovery since I am going on clean install on a newer version of Exchange.  I have been told I can delete the server from ADSI edit, but I am unable to even logging in as the domain admin with exchange admin rights and schema rights.
If I right-click the server, there is no option at all for delete or remove.  Am I stuck with changing the server name, or is there a way to get rid of the fubar install server and use the same name?
    Thanks,
    David

Taking this as a two step process, you first need to delete the Exchange server object from the configuration container (full path is:  config container, Configuration, Services, Microsoft Exchange, your organization, Administrative Group, Exchange
Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT), Servers), then install the new Exchange 2010 server.  So first, make your account an enterprise admin and Exchange admin and you should be able to delete the server object in ADSIEdit.  This isn't a schema
modification, so those rights aren't necessary; and Exchange installs in the configuration container, so domain admin rights aren't needed.  I'll add that you should be able to do this with only Exchange admin rights, but you've obviously tried that before.
Once you have deleted the server object, you should be able to install Exchange 2010 on the same server you had tried to install on before. Keep in mind that you will need to be Ent Admin, Schema Admin, and local admin on the server for the install.

  • Problems with new exchange server

I have a brand new 2012 server running exchange 2013. Ever since we installed this exchange server, it has been a huge pain. We've had it up and running perfectly one day, then the next it constantly spits out issues from users about not being able to connect
to the proxy server. I've had times where OWA and ECP are accessible and functional, and times where they are not (blank page).
Most recent iteration of issues. This morning everything was working fine (and was for a few days minus the fact the clients would randomly disconnect for at most 10-15 seconds at a time before reconnecting). I left for lunch, and came back to all outlook
    clients receiving a:
There is a problem with the proxy certificate. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target.
I was also unable to log in to the OWA or the ECP. (would login, but give me a blank page).
After some research  that led me to http://sumoomicrosoft.blogspot.de/2012/11/exchange-2013-emc-blank-page.html I was finally able to restore connectivity to the OWA and ECP. Fortunately there arent many users here today, so the only user around is
able to function off the OWA. However, this did not resolve the outlook clients.
It may be obvious, but I am not an exchange administrator. My boss sold them exchange 2013 because they demanded hosting onsite rather than through 365 and now Im having to deal with the fallout. If anyone with some exchange experience can give some advice,
I will give you all the information you ask to resolve this issue once and for all.

    Well,this sounds like certificate issue.
First of all,if you are able to login to ecp please login and navigate to Servers - certificate.
Do you have only default certs?By default there is only 3 certs (if CAS and Mailbox is installed on same server)
If so,then you need to issue a new cert, either through 3rd part ( like godaddy ) or using domain CA to issue one.
    Here is some guide: http://exchangeserverpro.com/create-ssl-certificate-request-exchange-2013/
    Or if prefere VDO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eukMn9F0I-8
Remember that name of the certificate MUST contain FQDN name of your exchange CAS servers.
Subject name should be the name of your domain.
Recomended is to use 3rd part certificate authority like godaddy.
When cert is created, check your iis that the new cert is bounded to the site (default web site) on your Exchange servers.

  • Automatically add new SQL data sources on secondary server

Hi there.. I have found an issue that I cannot resolve.
We have two DPM servers set up to be secondary servers for each other.. it has worked well for months and I was very happy with the setup.
What I had not realized was if a new SQL database was created and was picked up by the local DPM server, the secondary server did not pick up the new data source.
Is there a way to get a secondary server to refresh the list of data sources it should be backing up without having to manually updating the Protection Group once a week.
    Many thanks
    Chris
    Chris

    Hi,
Have you attempted the following? From the secondary DPM Server modify the protection group in question.
From the select group members step expand the needed SQL server.
Select the SQL instance (ensure the check box is checked off next to the SQL instance) then right click.
Now click on Turn on auto protection (Figure 1) to enable.
Figure 1:Enabling SQL auto protection from Secondary DPM Server.
Figure 2:After SQL auto protection is enabled.
    Also the below may assist.

  • Creating New Oracle Database on Windows 2000 server

These are the steps I am going to take. Are these correct?
1.) Set the Environment Variable. Do you need to use Oradim or is "SET ORACLE_SID=EGWASDEV" OK?
2.) Create a INIT.ORA file placed in a separate directory from EGOVDB.
3.) Create DATABASE Script. (See Attached)
4.) Create Tablespace Script. (See Attached)
    5.) svrmgr1
    6.) Connect Internal
    7.) startup nomount pfile="E:\oracle\admin\egwasdev\pfile\initegwasdb.ora"
    8.) Run CREATE DATABASE Script
    9.) Connect Internal
    10.) Run Tablespace script
    11.) Run E:\oracle\ora81\Rdbms\admin\catalog.sql
    12.) Run E:\oracle\ora81\Rdbms\admin\catproc.sql
    13.) Change Password for SYS
    14.) Change Password for System.
    15.) Modify Listener
    16.) Modify Tnsnames
    17.) Setup Dbstart (to automate)

When I connect internal I get a TNS:protocol adapter error. If I reference the SID of the existing database then I will be logged into that database. I thought I shouldn't be connected to any database in order to.....
    startup nomount pfile="E:\oracle\admin\egwasdev\pfile\initegwasdb.ora"
How should I connect and what do I do to avoid the TNS errror?

  • DPM2012R2CU5 does not detect new Exchange Databases

    Hello,
    I have a problem with DPM2012 R2 CU5 running on Windows Server 2012 R2. We recently deployed a new Exchange Server 2013 CU8 on Windows Server 2012 R2.
After deploying the agent, DPM recognized the the first database we created and by now the initial backup has been performed.
However we added two more databases afterwards but DPM does neither find the new databases when we try to add them to the protection group nor does it recognize the volumes they are on.
The new "Refresh" button in the Wizard is greyed out.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Sascha

    Hi,
Once you expand a server, the refresh button will be grayed out.
The behavior (during modifying a PG) is that if a server has some data sources already protected,
then the refresh button is greyed out. To refresh such a server, you can either:
Uncheck its data sources, highlight the server, the refresh button will now be active, press refresh and re-check the data sources again.
Refresh the server the first time before expanding it.
I will have the above steps added to the below BLOG.

  • Restore Exchange DB after Recreation of mailboxes to New Exchange(low priority)

    Hello to Everyone
Recently one client of mine had a problem with an exchange migration that he tried (2010 to 2013) and he needed to restore his old EDB  from windows backup to restore 10 Mailboxes that he had already migrated. We run the whole procedure with  eseutil,
ISINTEG  etc.  The problem was that the client had already deleted the mailboxes and the AD Users and recreated them on a new database. When I tried to export or move the mailboxes the Power Shell reported unknown error and as I understood tried
to Read from active directory GUID and couldn't find the same and Stopping.
We solved the problem with the OST to PST files relied on the computers but I would like to hear from your experience if we had other Alternatives?
I could think only to restore Exchange and the domain controller on a VLAN so they have the same AD Objects and then Export all mailboxes to PSTs and then Re import them to the New Exchange Server.
    Thank you
    Alexios

Not sure the steps you took, however based upon your brief explanation it sounds as though you were able to restore and rollup the logs using eseutil, correct?
Did you then use the RDB process to mount this DB onto an Exchange 2010 Server?
Assuming the above is correct you should then be able to restore the mailbox from the source DB into a temporary user mailbox as outlined here
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee332351%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx
If the above doesn't work for you the other option would be to use a 3rd party tool like Lucid8's DigiScope
http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp which would allow you to easily open the Offline 2010 EDB to see all the mailboxes and their contents.  You can then easily export to PST or directly
recover/migrate data from the offline 2010 EDB into the 2013 Production Exchange Server
Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003
    --> 2007 --> 2010 --> 2013 with Lucid8's
    DigiScope
    1. Yes Troy that is correct. I soft repair the db but it was continuing to be in dirty state. So I hard repaired it and came to a clean state.
    2. I then Created a recoveryDB and tried to move mailboxes to temp mailboxes or export mailboxes etc.
    3. There was no luck with the above, the power-shell reported that the mailbox GUID has changed and don't match with the AD signature, I am thinking this is probably because  the client has already recreated all the mailboxes to a new db with the same
usernames-mails. In the end and after one day of tries I recommended a third party tool that I tried and I have seen that finds all the data of the mailboxes or if we have the OST of the users to convert them to PST. They used the second suggestion with OST
    and I restored everything.
I posted this problem for brainstorming and if anyone else had the same problem or might have an idea why this happened. :)
    Thanks

  • Scripting for Windows Server Backup for Exchange 2010

    Hi,
I'm new to writing scripts and was wondering if anyone could assist with writing a script to backup an Exchange Server in a windows 2008 r2 environment.  I currently use Windows Server Backup with a full VSS backup to run exchange backups, however,
each backup overwrites the previous one, and i would really like to have multiple backups.  I would also like  to specify backup log locations, and have emails sent upon successful backups or failed backups.  I am trying to write this powershell
but cant seem to get things to work.
    Thanks
    Debbian

You can use PowerShell in conjunction with the Windows Backup command line utility, wbadmin.exe. The code below should help get you started. I have included the date in order to help maintain multiple back ups, but if you do more than one back up per day,
you will need to change the date format to include the time. You cannot control the built in logging of Windows Backup, but you could collect your own backup information and write that out to a text file. As far as sending emails, look into the Send-MailMessage
cmdlet including the -Attachment parameter that could send your log file with your mail message. Cheers.
    $Date = Get-Date -Format 'MM-dd-yyyy'
    $Path = "\\server\share\$Date"
    New-Item -Path $Path -ItemType Directory | Out-Null
Start-Process wbadmin.exe -ArgumentList "start backup -backupTarget:$Path -allCritical -vssFull -quiet"

    HI,
We have central site Exchange 2010 setup and it working fine . For business requirement we Installed new Exchange server(Mail/CAS/HUB) in new site.
Post installed, Auto discover and mail flow are working fine but Free/busy information is not working for new site mailbox users(Not working in outlook and OWA also).
I am having a strange error coming from outlook. When I run "Test E-mail AutoConfiguration" in Outlook, it comes up with Protocol: Exchange Http "wrong server name"
Please share your suggestion to change/configure  "correct server name"  in "Protocol: Exchange HTTP"

    Hi will martin,
    Thanks for your reply..
Yes , I already pointed internal web  service virtual directory ( "https://casarrayname/EWS/Exchan...) to CAS server in new site. Other internal URLs (OWA,ECP,OOF,Availability service) also pointed to
    new site CAS server.
But , when i check Auto discover internal URI and URL. below is the result.
    Result 1
    [PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory -Server Servername

  • Migrate Calendar/Contacts from one Exchange server to a new server?

I have an iPhone synced to my calendar and contacts on one Exchange server (old.edu). I am in the process of migrating to a different Exchange server (new.edu). Does anyone know if I can use the iPhone to be the conduit from server old.edu to server new.edu? e.g., can I sync iPhone with old.edu data on it to a computer that has a new Exchange server configured on its Outlook program and have the old.edu data copied onto the new.edu server?

No, you cannot. Exchange contacts data is synced 'over the air' only, and thus managed separately from iTunes (USB cable) syncing.
If you have Outlook connected to the old exchange server, you can export your contacts then import them after you link to the new server. But the iPhone is not going to help you in this situation.

  • New Exchange Migration Does Not Work Properly After Old Exchange Services Shut Off

Moved Exchange 2013 SP1 mailboxes, system mailboxes, public folders and OAB to new server with Exchange 2013 SP1. Followed all the suggestions here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1bdf67a1-ad0e-4e96-922f-3778d6bd8e98/move-exchange-2013-to-new-virtual-server-including-settings?forum=exchangesvrdeploy
Problem is when we shut off the old exchange server services, no mail flows and can not reach OWA. It seems as though the servers are "coexisting". I say coexisting because all the firewall rules point to the new server, all the settings in ECA/ECP
point to the new server, all the DNS records point to the new server. We need to be able to run exchange on the new server without the old server running. Is there something I left off?

I would hold up on decomming the old environment until you make sure you have all the dependencies removed from it.  I have done a number of migrations to 2013 and I always shutdown the old environment for atleast a day to make sure I caught everything.
When you say you can't reach OWA is that internally or externally?  As for the mail flow thing, I think you might need to check your send connectors and receive connectors. These don't get created/updated
with  Also, if you have a 3rd party hygiene solution (like a postini or mimecast) you will need to contact them and have them allow the new public IP for the Exchange 2013 environment (or setup a NAT Rule that translates old public IP to new Exchange
    Server. )
Ok, i turned off the old server and email DOES flow to and from intranet/internet. And i can get to most OWA pages. However, there is at least one that i can not make it to. We host email here and every domain has this syntax:
    https://mail.theirdomainhere.tld
Like i said, the external DNS records for this particular domain does reflect the public ip of our router. Our router then sends that connection to the new exchange server.

  • How can I clone a completed Exchange Server 2013 in a Lab Enviroment?

I was having great time with my Exchange Server 2013 until I tried to clone it to avoid fresh installation of another Exchange 2013 server. Steps taken
(1)Clone the Exchange1 and turn it off
    (2) Brought the Clone Exchange2, renamed it, change the IP configurations,
    (3) Re-ran the ADprep/Doamin prep
    (4) Checked the ASDIedit to verify the Schema/configuration in AD
    (5) Restarted I and was able to logon to the Exchange2
    (6) Brought up the Exchange1, but unable to logon because the name was no longer in AD database
What I did to fix this:
    (7) Rejoin the Exchange1 to the domain - and was able to logon
    (8) Unable to access ECP or OWA of any of the two servers.
    (9) Errors received - Fix the configuration file of the application
My Question - How to I fix the configuration file as suggested (via powershell or GUI or ASDIedit.msc)?

Unless you are cloning an entire environment, and then bringing it up in a seperate isolated environment, it is not supported to simply clone an Exchange Server, and then bring it online in an existing environment and rename it to save on setup and configuration
    time.
You can script the setup and configuration of Exchange through Powershell, either with scripts or with another product controlling it - something like
    System Center Orchastrator.
From the script side of things there are many available on peoples blogs. Check
    here.
Edit: and to be clear, there is no need to re-run any prep tasks against Active Directory when installing a new Exchange Server, unless you are installing into a new domain as part of your Forest.
