Automatically connects to wifi

My Samsung Galaxy SIII keep automatically connecting to WIFI, even when I have switched WIFI  to OFF.  I also tried disabling NOTIFY ME WHEN THERE'S AVAILABLE WIFI.  I'm sitting in my house, did both those steps above, and when I use 4g to get into data, later on I see that the phone has automatically connected to my WIFI.  I've been having lots of trouble with this.  I don't understand why it keeps happening.  HELP!

Settings > Wi-Fi > Uncheck "Notify Me When launching apps, notify me when Wi-Fi is available" > Menu (bottom left of phone) > Advanced > Uncheck "Auto-connect"
Does this help?

  • How can I get an automatic connection to wifi on startup?

We lost internet connection during snow/ice storm. I have to manually connect to wifi now. How can I get an automatic connection to wifi?

An 'uninterruptible power supply' that automatically steps in and takes your computer
off the grid momentarily, will work in cases of brown-out (under-power) & surge (spike)
and it does so at a fast rate. Most of these also offer a way to customize sensitivity to
a certain degree, depending on model and should there be a valid reason to do so.
An old-school surge protector, even if it has a few fancy LEDs, is no protection. And
for less than a replacement logic board or an hour of authorized Apple repair, the UPS
is a fairly good investment. Backup battery is user-replaceable in the better made units.
Most of them offer extra ports that do not use the battery-backup power feature. If you
need to have more items run when the power switches up/down or out, you'd need to
consider a larger capacity backup power unit. In some instances, the makers of these
(for a time, perhaps even now) did caution users to not install more than one UPS per
room when the same leg may have inadequate grounding, since these can dump the
excess surge power from several different UPS units and overload the ground.
That said, the gamble is yours. I've found to have and use these is some protection
and when away from the computer. Most settings for controlling them appear in OS X.
No additional software is required. Other settings may be on the UPS front panel.
    Good luck & happy computing!

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
    If the box marked
              Keep login keychain unlocked
    is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • Yoga 13 does not automatically connect to Wifi at times

My yoga 13 does not automatically connect to WIFI at times thought it has been saved to automatically connect. It will connect after I click on the WIFI icon in the desktop and then it sees the WIFI network and automatically connects to it. Though it is not a big deal it is minor inconvenience that I have to click that icon at times when internet doesn't work. This shouldn't be the case for a laptop that retails over 1000 bucks. Any suggestions?

This happens to me too. I haven't found a solution yet either.

  • N8 automatically connects to WiFi when I switch to...

    Hi,
I've noticed that when I switch the N8 to off-line mode it automatically connects to the Wi-Fi (asking me to allow WLAN connectios in off-line mode). It's a short connection (10 seconds, 2 K) but it always happens...
Same thing when I switch back from Off-Line mode to normal... Same connection to the Wi-Fi
I have disabled everything (no email accounts configured, widgets set to off -line, no social networks, etc.)
Has anyone experienced the same? Why is it connecting to the Wi-Fi each time I swithc the mode...?????

  • Will not automatically connect to wifi

Will not automatically connect to wifi

Changing your routers security to WEP seems to fix this issue.
WEP is a less secure protocal then WPA or WPA2.
You will have to weigh the security concerns vs the convience for your individual situation(s).

  • IPhone 5 automatically connects to wifi

My problem is the exact opposite of others'.  Although I have it set to ask before signing on to new wifi connections, if I pass a place that uses the same cable service as I have in my home, it signs on. And, when the phone connects to an unknown wifi I can't get mail or web service, which is a good thing since I am not notified and don't automatically know I'm on wifi so there is the security issue.  The error is that there is not a connection.  I have to turn wifi off in order to do so.  Totally annoying as I usually forget to turn wifi back on when I get home and use data unnecessarily. It started happening when I got the new phone (5) and I switched carriers from ATT to Verizon - two variables. Any ideas out there?

Try Settings > Wifi and set Ask to Join Networks to OFF. This will require you to manually select a network if no known networks are available.
Also use Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings to remove all spurious known networks.

  • Automatic connection to wifi home network ceased after update

Can I get the old OS back? I'm having to manually connect to my home wifi network now. It used to connect automatically as soon as I started up the iPad. Now, whether it was asleep or turned off, I have to walk it through connecting every time. Tiresome, tiresome.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 should not affect the ability of the iPad to stay connected to your WiFi network. Since you say this happens when coming back from sleep and powering up, have you tried a hard reset of the iPad? Hold both the sleep and home buttons until the Apple Logo appears. Then let the iPad startup, go to Settings > WiFi and choose the network, enter all of the information, make sure Settings > Safari AutoFill is turned OFF, and Settings > WiFi > Ask to Join Networks is turned ON.
If those steps don't help, we can try something else.

  • Lion automatic connection to WiFi

I am using a MacBook pro 17" with pre-installed Lion OS. I am using a WPA-2 protected wireless network.
The problem is, after coming back from sleep, the computer requires entering the WIFI password in order to connect to internet. Although I have marked the wifi network as the preferred network and checked the box for automatic signing-in, everytime coming back from sleep it says "none of your preferred networks are available", and when I choose my network name to join, I have to enter the password.
What I want is, the computer to connect automatically to my home wifi network after coming back from sleep without the need to enter password each time.
    Thank you,
    Aydin

If you want to autoconnect to a WiFi network after sleep you have to use no better encryption than WEP.
If you try anything higher in the securuty chain i.e. WPA, it will not connect automatically and you will have to manually connect.
I have tested this on a unibody 2010 MacBook Pro running 10.7.3. This was fine on the same hardware before Lion.
Before you go formatting, resetting and all the other tasks above, just try changing your router to WEP authentication (sometimes also called Shared Key or Legacy 802.1X) because that may well save you a lot of trouble.
As a result, this confirms this is a software issue and I can't for the life of me understand why Apple still don't have a fix for it when using WPA.

  • My macbook pro won't automatically connect to wifi

My computer is showing it is connected to the internet via wifi but my page won't load and gives me a message that Safari cannot connect to the internet.  When I run the diagnostics it tells me my connection is fine.

Yes.. wireless after sleep or reboot is a problem. See the info from Tesserax.

Unable to connect after sleep .. you will see it in the list.

  • Mac OS Lion has caused my Mac to no longer automatically connect to WiFi. If I boot it into windows it works fine.

It does not make sense. I have reset everything. Was working fine before the upgrade. Even tried removing and adding my network connection. I have also upgraded to 7.1. If it is disconnected from my router due to sleep for more than 5 minutes it cannot reconnect automatically.

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Connections
    Try again.

  • How to connect to wifi automatically when available?

Hello users, I have a 8510 Curve and use 3G most day, but I want it to automatically connect to Wifi when I am at home, and disconnect 3G. How can I do it?

I have the curve 8520 but I think the settings should be the same. Go to manage connections, then select mobile network options. From there you should see 'connection preference'. Choose WIFI preferred then save. It should automatically connect to your home WIFI.
    Hope this helps
