Automatically goes into Stand by Mode

My computer has been killing me these days... my hard drive failed on me so i lost everything i had (had it backed up but lost most my editing software)
Now when i start up my computer
the fan starts going CRAZY and the computer automatically goes into standby mode...
if i click on my mouse a few times it turns back on and a couple seconds later it switches back to standby...
I think it may be a power supply problem?
Man... i love my computer but its really causing me problems....

  • 1st Generation Ipod touch  keeps crashing/going into stand by mode 3.1.3

I have a 1st generation ipod touch that I recently restored to the newest firmware 3.1.3. My problem is that after this restore and subsequent restore attempts is that the device keeps clicking off to a black screen when I use wifi or transition from different desktop screens. The device does not completely crash as once the screen goes black I can hit the home button an slide to unlock. I have found that if I disable wifi this problem does not occur. I have tried to both reset and restore with no success. Any suggestions or ideas?

If a restore did not help, I'm afraid you have a hardware issue there.

  • I updated my iMac to lion and now when i leave my desktop and it goes into stand by it like a picture is taken of the screen and when i want to log in the mouse point removes pixels so i can get to the user login screen this never happened ith snow leopar

i upgraded my iMac to lion and now when i leave my desktop and it goes into stand by mode, its like a picture is taken of the actice desktop and when i want to log in the mouse point removes pixels so i can get to the user login screen this never happened ith snow leopard. does anyone else experience this and is there a fix?

I have an iMac 8, 1 that I upgraded Leopard to Snow Leopard.  It was totally updated with the latest from Apple when I bought and tried installing Lion.  The upgrade failed, shot my OS and I couldn't boot.  Had the constant spinner on a grey screen..  did a format of the drive, hdd repair and everything came back clean... got back to Snow Leopard and all the updates on it again and then retried the Lion thing... same bs... dead duck.  Crashed my system one too many times.  I can't see where a few small changes, mostly app related can be classified as an OS upgrade and is not compatible with my iMac.  I have the stuff running on my Mac Pro but have yet to notice anything impressive.  I've always used F3 and really didn't require Mission Control.  Just open you app folder for launch pad... duh?  I use the hot corners anyhow.  As far as Safari is concerned... as a power user, Apple missed the boat on that for me.. full screen etc.. Wow.  I don't like the new Mail either..
As you can see/read, I'm less than impressed with this release from Apple but I own so many of their products that I will have to put up with it for now... somehow the MS logo should apply to this release Steve.

Can you boot into your Recovery partition (hold down the command and R keys whilst booting)?
Call back - you'll be able to connect to this forum from Safari whilst in Recovery.

  • Satellite P10 automatically goes into Standby after 15 minutes

My Satellite P10 automatically goes into Standby after 15 minutes. This is a setting that is controlled by the Toshiba Power Management settings, or the Toshiba Console.
When I change the settings there the system still goes into Standby after 15 minutes. When I go to Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/Power Options, it tells me to go to the Toshiba Power Management to change the settings, but I can still see the settings in grey stating 15 minutes standby time.
But in the Toshiba Power Management I can't seem to be able to ajust Standby settings so that they actually work. There must be a trick to it..
Can anyone help me figure it out?
    Thanks a lot,
    Lerak

Thank you for your replies. As I now understand it there are 3 power management utilities fighting for control of the power management settings:
    1) The windows OS power options("Power Option Properties, from the control panel/performance and maintenance/power options);
    this utility is overridden by:
    2) Toshiba Power management;
    and
    3) the "power save modes", activated by pressing the Function key and the F2 key, which in turn can override the Toshiba Power management.
If this last Function/F2 combination is used to change the power save modes, the windows OS power settings (which are shown in grey and cannot be changed because this is overridden by the Toshiba Power management) DO actually change.
Hold down the Function key (Fn) and press F2, holding down the Fn key. Each time you then press the F2 key again you scroll down the different "Power Schemes". The last mode is called: Toshiba Power Management. One would think that by choosing this setting the Toshiba Power management utility would effectively take over control of the power settings. Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case..
At least using this last option provides a workaround. Some of the "Power Schemes" disable the standby options.

  • When I open AE it goes into Render Engine Mode

How do I get AE to open?  I was messing around with the Render Engine but now when I open AE it automatically goes into the Render Engine mode - I can't open files etc.

    Likely one of two things.
Make sure that you're launching the Adobe After Effects (version) application directly, and not the shortcut for the Render Engine.
Make sure that the ae_render_only_node.txt file isn't present, as described here:

  • Downloads don't prevent ML from going into energy savings mode

Since installing ML (clean install) most of the downloads (no matter what program) I do cannot be left unattended because as soon as I leave the computer alone, ML eventually goes into energy savings mode, causing my downloads to cease.
Any idea how to prevent that (other than switching the energy saving off)?

None of the available setting suit my needs. I could turn the settings to "off" anytime I want to download something, but I never had to do this before on my Macs.

  • I to use iphoto library manager to save corrupted iphoto and each time it saves some and the first time it brings up iphoto, iphone goes into "not responding" mode.  Using mac book pro, iphoto 9.5.1, and maverick 10.9.2.

I've had issues with my iPhoto "not responding" and as a result I am attempting to save my photos to an external hard drive using iPhoto library Manager but each time I start the program it saves some, and then when it starts iPhoto, iPhoto then goes into not responding mode. Using mac book pro, iphoto 9.5.1, and maverick 10.9.2. I have completed all of the photo library first aid steps several times, but it makes no difference, iphoto eventually goes to "not responding."  Initial issues started with Time Machine back ups stopping because of iphoto. Thanks......

Do you have a back up?
If you're just trying to recover the photos you can do that much more simply:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Originals' or 'Masters'. (varies according to the version of iPhoto)
Your photos are inside - these are the originals as imported from your camera.

  • Time Machine stops due to computer going into Sleep/Hibernation Mode

Time Machine stops due to computer going into Sleep/Hibernation Mode then restarts to try to start the Back up process again and again vicious cycle. I have made sure all settings are turned off. I have done one or two backups since the initial first backup. My HDD is almost full and I want it backed up before I try to clone/mirror the drive to upgrade it to a 1TB HDD. Thank you in advance.

Set the Energy Saver (in System Preferences) to Never. Then reset the NVRAM, as follows:
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.
    Release the keys.

  • New LG Monitor Screen Image Keeps Shifting a few pixels left and right / goes into power save mode

I just purchased a new LG Computer Monitor from Best Buy today and hooked it up to my PowerMac computer. Shortly after setting it up, the entire screen image started sporadically shifting left and right a few pixels. And then, at seemingly random times, it'll shut itself down, going into power save mode. I checked the cables to make sure they were secure and they seem to be. Could there be some sort of interference that's causing it? Or would it be the graphics card? My computer is only a couple years old. Please help!

Do you have another computer you can plug the monitor into to test?

  • Can I put my Motorola cable into stand-by mode?

It's a silly question, but I just want to be sure.
While I had the cable modem connetced to my PC, I was able to put it into stand-by mode after I shut-down the computer; now that the modem is connected to the Airport Extreme, I wonder if the router will respond to it after I bring it out of stand-by mode. I had a hard enough time getting the darn router to work in the first place, so I'm a little leery about doing anything that could interrupt service.
It might be worth mentioning that my PC is picking up the signal through a USB antenna. but it might not be, either.
In any case, I would appreciate any help offered; the quicker the better too, for my roomie wants to shut off the modem ASAP because it's bothering her -- it doesn't help that she doesn't have a life.

Until you see the battery capacity is under 20%. Anyway, OS X will tell you when you should charge your MacBook. Don't let it run out of power.
    Pale_face wrote:
And is the 'battery life' the 1000 cycle charge?
In new computers, batteries should have 80% of capacity after 1000 cycles, so that's what I'm referring with battery life. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1519 OS X will tell you when the battery has to be replaced

  • Monitor Goes into 'Power Saving Mode' HDMI

I have an LG monitor (IPS237-BN) which always goes into 'Power Saving Mode' when I connect my MacBook Air to it via a Thunderbolt-HDMI connection.
Sometimes it actually connects and I can mirror my displays (or count it as another), most of the time it doesn't.  I have used different cables etc.  I cannot install the driver because I do not have a CD drive.
    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Update the the video driver from the NVIDIA web site.
Your PC bios should be 5.29 or higher so that is something to check.

Thunderbird is a great asset to my boss and I. We use Thunderbird all the time and love it, but for about a week it constantly goes into "not responding mode". My boss uses the same service at home with no problem at all.
I did an "safe mode" and restart and for a few minutes I thought it was "healed". However, I did a search and the same thing started happening again. The little blue ring starts spinning and "not responding" pops up above the toolbar. Sometime the screen fades to a sort of greyish and no mouse click are responded to, even to close Thunderbird.
Please help however you can. Our office number is 512.246.3995.
    Thank you,
    Mary

We wonder if it is a firewall problem that developed here at the office. My boss uses her account at home and all is well, but here, experiences the same issues I described
