Automatically Number Each Topic

Hi,
I wonder if anyone knows of a way that you can automatically number each page of a topic, kind of like a reference number for each page, that would appear on the page, so that it could then be searched for?
Appreciate any ideas anyone has! :-)

I'm assuming you are referring to something akin to what Microsoft does by assigning a KB identification number to the topic?
I don't believe there is anything presently available in RoboHelp for achieving this. If it's something you feel could be useful, please consider submitting a Feature Request to ask Adobe to add the feature. (Link is in my sig)

Automatically Tagging What's New in Each Topic

I am in the process of creating a large webhelp system, where each topic lists new features by release. I need to tag certain parts of each topic so that features by release could be automatically generated, i.e., the user could see which changes have been made for a particular software release. Is there any way to do this in RoboHelp 9? Thanks in advance.

Hi Yulia_MH and welcome to the RH community.
You could handle this in one of two ways. RH has things called Conditional Build Tags. These are flags added to various parts of your project (e.g. entire topics, specific topic text). When you generate your output you can build an expression to exclude content with a specific tag. Rick Stone has a good tutorial on this here.
The second way you could do this is using the new DUCC feature in RH9. This is similar to conditional build tags but instead of exlcuding the source, all of it is included. However the user is given the option of selecting (via a drop down) which version of the output to view. You could use this for each version. You might want to check out this RH9 tour for further details.

Automatically number recurring events?

Hi all,
Just searched the topics but can't seem to find it so I'll post the question here. What I'm trying to do is get iCal to automatically number my (weekly) recurring event.
The event recurs every Saturday, and I want iCal to add +1 for each week. For example how many weeks you are pregnant, how many weeks it's been since you've moved etc. Really don't feel like adding the number of weeks manually... is this possible?

Not really. The repeating event is only stored once, so thereis no second or third or ... actual stored event, and so nowhere to put the recurrence number. iCal calculates, from the start date and recurrence rule, what repeating events should be shown in the current view. I imagine it would be easy, as part of the calculation, to calculate the number and display it, but they would need to change their code.

Automatic number sequence Value set

Can I create a value set for a descriptive flexfield segment that generates numbers sequentially and automatically for each record entered by the user.
If the above is possible what is the action plan?

Instead of creating a dependent value set for your 2nd segment, why don't you just assign it a seeded valueset like '8 Characters Numeric' and then use a default type of 'SQL statement' against the segment definition with a default value of:
select max(attributexx)+1 from your_table
where attributexx is the column you're using to store the sequential value and your_table is the table against which the DFF is defined.
This should work fine as long as you ensure in your flexfield design that attributexx is never shared with another context using non-numeric values in that column.
You'll also need to manually seed the first record with the starting number of your sequence. Thereafter, it should populate automatically.

I tried numbered lists but it only works in the paragraph text box.. I need to make it flow automatically for each columns..

HI, if I did this, then I believe that I cloud would then hold my info which I don't want. Is that the case? The reason is that I'm an old git, therefore used to not giving out info. Would I be right?

Are you referring to a bulleted list with numbers instead of bullets?
If so, the Mail.app includes no such feature.

Adobe lightroom asking for serial number each time I open it. Any suggestions?

I just downloaded Lightroom 5 and updated to 5.7 when prompted on completion of the process. I now have to input the serial number each time I open the programme. Is there any thing I can do, restarting the installation for example, to try and get round this problem?

I have the same thing happen to me. Every time I start Aperture, it asks for the license. Once I have entered the license key it lets me use the application. However, the next time I use the application again, i get the same problem. I have tried reinstalling the application, and am asked for the license key at the beginning of the install and again once the package is started. To no avail. And I get no other messages.
I called Apple Support, and after booking a call with a support person (a Genius?), I got one who, after reading the summary of my problem in the service request, said simply "this is for Aperture? Aperture is a Microsoft product, you have to call Microsoft". And that was that.
Please, anyone have any ideas?

On the iPod I can only insert what is on the clipboard but I can insert however many rows I have there. Is it working differently for you? Benjoon seemed to think that he could not do this in Numbers. He was ruling Numbers out because of it. He doesn't need to do that because of this issue.
If I was needing to insert multiple blank rows often I might keep a table of blank rows or just some blank rows at the end of the working table that I could copy/paste. This is no different than Numbers on the Mac.

Hi Jackie,
One formula is
=ROW()
Another formula is (say you have typed 1 into A1) then in A2
=A1+1
and Fill Down.
Another way is to type the numbers of the first two rows, select both cells and drag the Fill Handle down. This won't work if you are trying to Fill Down from a Header Row. It works with Body Rows.

Automatic "number of visible categories"

did anyone know how to implement in code automatic number of visible categories in graph. I need to do in code something that user can do manually on graph by clicking: Right button mouse click on a vertical axis of ALV Graphics -> Format gridlines -> Scale tab -> Checkbox 'Automatic' (number of visible categories).
I need the same effect, but before first display of ALV graphics. I have to mention, that I don't implement manually the AVL Graphics. It's all default, by clicking a button on my ALV Grid.
Is it possible to change it in code?

When creating 50 files in a directory that is mounted through NFS, and doing an ls afterwards, only 40 files are listed. The number of files listed depends on the length of the file names. If the file names are longer it can happen that ls lists less files.
It appears that this behaviour is specific to the HP-UX NFS client when it accesses the 9iFS NFS Server.
Solaris, or Linux NFS clients behave correctly. Additionally, the HP-UX NFS client against another NFS server (for example an HP-UX NFS server, or a Tru64 Unix NFS server) is also behaving correctly.
This can only be seen when using NFSv3. When the 9iFS NFS directory is mounted using NFSv2, all files are listed correctly.
That's the recommended workaround.;-)

I would like to number each line I a document t I am writing how is it done in pages

Pages has no numbering facility as such. The work arounds are extremely clumsy.
Try iText Pro and LibreOffice instead.

Printed Documentation displays each topic twice

Click Printed Documentation.
Click Next to access the TOC setup
On the right panel, each topic is listed twice. In the final document, RH is adding a heading to a topic and then duplicating the same topic without the RH heading.
If there is a way to prevent RH from inserting these headings, I think this duplication would be resolved.

That's what I was getting at earlier in the conversation but I don't think that is the cause here.
It use to be that if a topic was linked to a book and then the author added the topic because it could not be seen in the print layout, the topic would be in the printed document twice. In the print layout you had to remove the topic and rely on it coming from the book, which it did. In the print layout you would not see the topic whereas you are seeing it twice.
In Rh10 there is a change (may have been in 9). In the print layout if there is a book with a linked topic, that now shows in the print layout. Rh has put the linked topic in the layout so that you can now see it. However, it is only there once.
I am wondering if maybe you had books with links and had put the topic below not realising, then on upgrade you would see your manually added topic plus the one Rh has moved from the book to the print layout? Can you look at an old document to see if the topic was there twice?
Beyond that I don't know what could have caused it but all seems well now.
