Automatically open particular doc in a particular space

IS it possible to conficgure a specific pdf doc to open up in a specific space (say number 3) when ever I click it open - even if I am currently at space 1 - and better still, to so on boot.
I know you can set an application to a specific place but i want something more than that (no end to human greed ey?)

but the thing is I dont understand where the rectangle fits into the whole picture.If you want to position the table at the 500th row then you need to know where the 500th row is located.
The table.getCellRect(...) will give you this information.
Then you simply use the table.scrollRectToVisible(...) method. This will be forwarded to the scrollPane and the viewport will be positioned appropriately.
Of course the scrollRectToVisible() only works on a visible table I believe.

I wist not that I must tediously select and open my same usual documents one by one, each time I turn on computer to work.
I either have to find my usual documents under "File/OpenRecent"
&/or search through the FINDER for them.
I wonder if anybody else has every had this problem before, and found a solution?
Has modern technology advanced to the point where this can be done automatically?
(Now it just occurred to me that
I could put my 'usual documents' (or Alias) into a separate Envelope
in the finder, and
then select them all at once and click to Open all at the same time.
But is that the best or only solution?)

Can Preview be set to automatically open PDF docs?

I am often converting/printing word docs into PDF docs in iMac Lion. I would like to set so converted PDF docs would open automatically in Preview.
Is it possible to set so? If then how?

Thanks but I already have Preview as default. It doesn't open freshly converted pdf-s automatically. I have to go to Finder and open them from there. I would like to skip that step and make Preview open freshly converted PDF doc automatically as soon as conversion is completed and document is created in Finder.

Opening excel docs from email quickly

Can Numbers automatically open excel docs from email? I always have to save the file and then open the Numbers program, then open file.

If Numbers is defined as the app opening XL files, a double click in the xls file in Mail opens it in Numbers.
You may also try to drag the attachment on the Numbers's icon.

Open office won't open word docs automatically

I downloaded Openoffice.org to open word docs. When I click on internet Word docs they don't open right away, I have to download to folder then open in Open org, is there way to set it up so it automatically opens it up or do I need download Word?

If you select a word file in the Finder and do File>Get Info you will see a section in there where you can specify which application should be used to open files of that type.

Assign a finder view of a directory to a particular space at login

I have defined a spaces "space" for doing a particular task. I've assigned particular apps to that space. Those apps are in the dock and set to start at login.
I also have a directory tree that contains all of the various data files that I use during this task.
I would like (at login) for a finder window to open up in that particular space with the finder window open to the top of that directory tree. Is this possible? Any thoughts how I can make this happen?

The problem there is that the finder window will need to be available in every space and not locked to a particular one so it may be difficult to do.
There must be a way using a simple applescript though that you can direct an application to a particular space and if so you should be able to write a basic script to open finder to a set folder and drop it in a set space and then repeat that for the other windows. For all i know there is already documentation out there on how to use a set space with applescript. Perhaps google around for some such info - i'm about as far from an applescript expert as you can get!

Automatically open DOC's

: i recently deleted office mac cause i havent used it in like a year, but i do still have a bunch of .doc files that i need which obviously open with pages...
is there a way i can just change it so that they automatically open with pages cause right now they open with text edit.. I know i can "get info" on the individual file and tell it to open with pages, but i have probably hundreds of doc files... can i just make it so every doc file that comes in knows it has to use pages to open?

Highlight a known Word document in the Finder, highlight it & choose Get Info from the File menu. In the Get Info box, click the triangle next to "Open With." Click on this drop-down menu & choose Pages. If Pages is not a choice, choose "Other" & navigate to the Pages application. Now click the "Change" button under the text that asks if you want to open all documents like this with Pages. You can then double-click the Word documents & they will open in Pages. Note that the icon for the Word files will have a plain, white icon.

Sounds like OS X has lost the association between Pages and its files.
Start by quitting Pages, then going to Finder.
In Finder, locate a .pages file. Click on it (once), then press command-I (eye, not one) to Get Info.
In the Info window that opens, expand the Open With section.
In this section, click on the pop-up menu and choose Pages (even if Pages is already shown).
Click the Change All button to associate all files with the .pages extension with Pages.
Close the info window.
Double click any .pages file to check that Pages will now launch and open the file.

Is there a way to have the thumbnail pane automatically open when opening a pdf file?

I'm using Adobe Reader X and I would like to have the thumbnail preview automatically open when opning a pdf file. I know there is a setting to remember view layouts but this is set for the currently open document and not in general. Thanks in advance,

A particular file can have this setting, so each time you open it you see the thumbnails. The bad news is:
- this would have to be changed per file
- this requires the Acrobat product, not just the free Reader.

Automator Help: Create simple workflow to automate opening random playlist?

I'm fairly inexperienced with Automator. I've figured out how to create some workflows by having it record my actions but this is somewhat limiting. I'm hoping to accomplish something slightly more complex and I've been unable to find an existing thread on this (I may be searching for the wrong terms).
I'm hoping someone here can help me to create an Automator workflow that will:
1.) At a specific time on a specific day of the week (i.e. every Wednesday at 4pm)
2.) Open a randomly selected file from a specified folder (i.e. go to folder "Playlists" and pick one of the 15 .m3u playlists available at random and open it).
Is this possible with Automator? I've read other posts that seem to suggest something like this is possible but I'm having trouble finding the right building blocks in Automator to make it happen. I'm hoping it's fairly simple because I certainly don't want to ask too much of anyone here. Any help would be greatly appreciated but please don't go out of your way if this is a complex or demanding request.
My goal is to create a virtual TV channel of sorts. I'd create specialized playlists (i.e. Wednesdays might be sitcom night whereas Thursdays are Sci-Fi night) and my Mac Mini would automatically open one of the multiple "sitcom" playlists (at random) every Wednesday just before I would get home. I love my Mac Mini and Front Row (and Boxee as of late) but sometimes I would like for my computer to be automated so it feels more like a regular TV channel (but one with programming I'm guaranteed to like).

Do you want to randomly select the playlists, or the items within a particular playlist, or both? Making an iCal alarm plug-in with something like the following will play a random item in the specified playlist:
1) Get Specified iTunes Items {add your playlist}
2) Play iTunes Playlist {select shuffle}

Why can't I open word docs from mail anymore?

Am on 10.8.2 on Macbook Air and doc and docx attachments tell me to choose application to open the doc with and won't open when I choose "Word"
These used to be opened automatically by Word, not I have to manually choose Pages as the only option

Save the word file from the email to your Mac (have you never saved an attachment before)?

If I save it somewhere as you suggested I can then open it
also, as I mentioned if I drag the doc onto WORD in the dock it opens that way as well
