Automatically run full screen?

My Captivate simulation has to be run full screen. Rather
than having a page with links where the learner can click, the
links must be embedded into a PowerPoint presentation (I know, I
know, but that's what they want). My client wants to avoid having
the Internet Explorer window open with a "Click here ... full
screen" link. I can think of know way to put that in a PPT file, so
I'm wondering if anyone has made the IE window redirect to the full
screen version with a re-direct code (or something) to
automatically launch the simulation in full screen. (Whew! Does
that make sense?)
Thanks in advance!

Hi LJezsik and welcome to the forums!
Full screen in the browser is only available by opening a new
window (hence the "Full Screen" link) or by embedding a custom
ActiveX control.
I'd rule out the ActiveX option, since it's both technically
challenging (I saw it done once, but don't know how) and would only
work for Internet Explorer anyhow.
That leaves the new window approach. A redirect is not an
option... the "full screen" can only be applied while a window is
first opening and even then only when the window is opened by
Javascript.
The best you could hope for is to open a page that
immediately opens another page in full screen, adding some verbiage
to the first page that says something like "The content has opened
in a new window. It is safe to close this window".
A sample "autolauncher" page is included below as an example.
It does not make use of the window.open() method's "fullscreen"
parameter since in IE6 that does not seem to give the user a way of
closing the new window once it's open. You can easily change this
by setting the parameter to yes in the code below.

  • Discovered: Method of running full screen on 13" MBP

Been running my MBP 13" with Logic recently and decided to look into a way of getting it full screen, and think i've found a solution.
Now, what i will be doing is instead of displaying the standard 1280x800 resolution, i will instead display a scaled 1920x1200 resolution via a piece of software called 'SwitchResX'.  Which is a systems preference.
It gives you much more screen space to work with, but at the cost of fonts are quite hard to read, being a scaled resolution, so if you're interested here are the steps:
    i. Download SwitchResX from here: http://www.madrau.com/download/latest/latest.html  Please note: it is shareware which means you can use it as much as you like, but it's requested that you pay if using over 10 days.  So please do so if it works for you, and you use it in future.
ii. Simply run the resulting download and it will install to your system preferences.
    Right, now here we go:
    1. Run SwitchResX from the system preferences window.
    2. Select 'Color LCD' (Which is your internal laptop screen) from the list on the left.
    3. Go to the custom resolutions tab, and press the plus button at the lower left to add a new custom resolution.
    4. From the pull down menu select 'Scaled resolution'.
    5. Then in the scale to boxes, enter 1920 and 1200 as displayed below, and press OK:
    6. The new resolution will be displayed as not saved, so simply press the apply button at the bottom right and it will make the changes to your mac - Will probably ask for a password to do so.
    7.  Restart OSX, and you will be running at 1920x1200 full screen.  You can swap between that and the standard 1280x800 modes at will in the standard System Prefs/Display control panels (Under the scale option)
I hope this helps some of you, not sure if the MBP will run hotter like that, it shouldn't be any different than running it through an external monitor at that kind of resolution i would hope.
If anyone foresee's any issues this could cause please post back, i've been running with it tonight and it's really handy being able to see more mix controls etc.

Very cool bit of clever work...
    Thanks ski!

  • Run full screen video with GarageBand

    Good evening.
I have a question about using GaraBand with full screen video.
I'm creating a movie using Final Cut Pro (which's new for me) and creating a music track in Garageband.
I will like to have GarageBand to play the music in one track, using an interface I will send a click to the drumer but also ( and this is part of my question), I need to have GaraBand to play the sync movie I created, on a video beam running in full screen.
The goal is to manage the application in my laptop but the people should not see the application or anything on my desktop, they should be able to see just the video after I hit play.
So, is there a way to have GarageBand to send a clik to the drummer mintor, play the sound track and do split monitor on a video beam that should show just the full screen movie and not my desktop?
I will really appreciate any suggestion about this.
Note: I have Logic Pro 8 too, in case logic supports it.

Thank you for taking a look into this question Chris.
This is the very first time I'm trying to do this type of presentations and I'm not sure if there is a way or another application to run a music track with a click only for monitoring of the drummer (which GB does) and at the same time run the video which was edited to by synchronized with the audio the musicians will play.
I can see the the movie preview window and make it larger, the problem is that it will not pay in full screen  move on a video beam.
I'm starting to feel that with GB it is not possible.

  • When running full screen apps - dock is slow, difficult to appear

This is on a new MBP with an additional external monitor.  The primary display is still the laptop display.  When apps are in full screen, simply bringing the cursor to the bottom of the screen does NOT bring up the dock.  I have to continually pull down on the mouse to get it to appear.  Or I have to pull the mouse down to the bottom, stop, then pull it down again.  This seems to be in place to allow access to features at the very bottom of the window of a full screen app...whithout accidentally bumping the dock.  Maybe there's a setting for this but in it's current state, I hate it - I'm not going to use full screen apps if this is how they act.

Revealing the Dock while in a full-screen app requires not only moving the cursor to the bottom of the screen, but keeping your finger on it or moving the cursor along the bottom edge (or other "tricks") to reveal the Dock.
    SUPER ANNOYING TO ME
Many users may like that way of operation, perhaps a great majority. But hundreds of thousands may find it annoying to have this cognitive pause imposed and would rather have the dock appear accidently once in a while when moving the cursor close to the bottom area of the display.
    This worked before Mavericks:
Setting the Dock autohide delay to zero (in Terminal, with write defaults...) removed this annoyance. As soon as your cursor's at the bottom of the screen, the Dock's there.
In Mavericks: Nothing to do! (so far)
APPLE: "You" make WRONG design decisions, "you" make professional users spend dozens of hours investigating how to tweak basic features behind the scenes. And THEN, "you" quietly invalidate those changes. Please, the best design decision that "you" could make is to give the user more choice. Please, give us a section in Preferences where these things may be changed. The religious dumbing down of the interface in favour of supposedly clean esthetics is plain WRONG.
It is also quite unacceptable that APPLE does read these pages but never responds.

  • Is there any way to minimize/hide games when they're running full screen?

so i'm a seasoned mac user, but i've always wanted to be able to do this, i've tried virtuedesktops to try and switch screens, but whatever i do, i have to quit the game if i want to change something on my desktop. that, or run it in a window, which kinda s u c k s. i know in windows you can minimize anything by hitting the window key. things like apple-tab don't work either. there must be some way to do this!

That seems to depend on the game. Certain games seem to disable your ability to switch tasks. But what you could try is to induce the Force Quit (command-option-escape) dialog. If my experience serves correct, this seems to override whatever wants to prevent multi-tasking.

  • Can't run flash player in full screen on 2nd monitor

Hi all! I have a laptop with dual video displays. The main
display is the laptop's LCD and the 2nd display is a 19" LCD
connected via VGA cable. I want to let a Flash movie loop endlessly
on the second monitor while I continue to work on the laptop. When
I drag Flash Player 8 over to the 2nd monitor and start the movie,
I can hit maxmize and it will take up the entire 2nd montior as it
should...with the file options and boarder around as expected. I
then hit Ctrl-F to go full screen and it snaps directly to the
laptop's primary monitor. I tried it at work where my desktop has 2
displays and the same thing happens. I need to force Flash player
to run full screen on the 2nd monitor and cannot find a way to
accomplish this. Any help is appreciated because it's driving me
nuts. I can always make the external monitor my primary but then
the start button and all my icons move there too and that is not
    acceptable. Thanx!

Seriously? No one has any thoughts about this? I can't
believe I would be the first to come across this issue.

  • Running flash full screen while using other apps

I run a 3 monitor setup on Win7x64.  I would like to watch shows, eg Hulu, while working on other stuff on the other monitors.  Any time I switch focus to another program though it drops back down into the browser.  Is there a way to keep it running full screen while working with other programs?

  • How to have new Safari windows open in full screen?

    Hello,
I am wondering if it is possible to have new Safari windows take up the full screen. For example, if I click on a link that opens a new window, I would like that new window to take on the fully maximized setting of the window it came from. So even if the website code says the window has to be 50% screen real estate, I would like to be 100% every time automatically.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the forums!
Yet another great thing that Glims can do!
If you want to fix your Google search to a specific Google location, I recommend that you download and install the free plug-in Glims:
    http://www.machangout.com/
which not only does that but much more equally useful stuff! (Such as automatically deleting Flash cookies, enabling Safari to run full-screen, and more.)
(It adds items to Safari Preferences).
Not only does it already list a number of search engines and regions, but you can also add any other search engine not already listed in Glims by using the method described here:
    http://www.machangout.com/tutorials/addsearchengine
Just enter the name you give the search engine in the name field, and the URL for it in the Query URL field.
When you have it, the setting is in Glims Preferences/General

  • I've given up on Full Screen Apps

At first I was very annoyed at the built-in rigidity of full screen apps. We called it a bug (it's not- no one at Apple cared to give the apps the flexibility they should have) and I hoped for a fix, but with so many desktops available and the full screen mode available anyway (you know, the green button), I realized that Full Screen Apps weren't really giving me anything worth the trouble and often were making work more cumbersome. The question is, what do Full Screen really offer anyway? They seem redundant. The only app I still run full screen is Safari- you need every bit of space you can get with a browser.
Besides, what advantage were Full Screen apps supposed to give us anyway? Four finger swipe navigation? You can do that anyway between desktops. As far as app switching is concerned, I find Cmmd-Tab the most convenient method by far and so my dock is hardly used and always hidden anyway. I find too that I like to see the menu bar when working. I don't find the elegant quotient damaged.
But I take back what I say about bugs- Preview has huge bugs in Full Screen mode and annoying ones in regular mode. I have no idea why Cupertino hasn't addressed these glaring ugly's. Speaking of butt-ugly, try Photo Booth in Full Sreen mode. It seems a Cupertino high school came to Apple for a field trip one day and recolored Photo Booth and iCal as well. Notice how Word jumped in the pleather wood action- jeez, can't they even get wood grain right? Even I can do a decent and realistic pine, oak, and teak.
In respone to the dumbing down and corkscewing up of Mac OS I've threatened to switch to Ubutntu a bunch of times but apparently Apple is calling my bluff as a loyal user since they haven't made any public announcements or written to me personally (these are attempts at jokes I'm afraid, I'm planning on buying a Macbook Pro as I write this).
I like eye candy too but to Hector with that Photon-blasted iOS. When did Apple become the computer trendy gadgetier for the everybody and his brother and dog instead the beloved champion for the rest of us wannabe geeks? Sigh, nostalgia.

I've come to think that if you know what html is and have ever needed to use ftp, then iWeb will seem limiting and downright constraining.
On the other hand, I can truly say that were it not for iWeb, I wouldn't be blogging now. I can edit html by hand and have spent some time in .css, but when I'm doing something just for the heck of it (to make myself, and hopefully the readers, smile), I want the "effort" part of the equation to be as low as possible.
Like Keynote before it, there's something about iWeb that makes me want to use it. And creating with it is fun mainly because, while the results may not be perfect, the only thinking that goes into the creation is that of creating. And, since the Domain file is where all your data is held, an update to iWeb means that the next time you publish, your site automatically takes on whatever optimizations the update holds, again without having to tinker with the coding side of site creation.

  • Script to force Full Screen SWF?

I'm creating eBrochures in ID_CS5 but looking to create SWFs that fun full screen for local playback, not web based.
Is the full screen paramter scriptable from within ID so that the SWF opens as such ?

Your solution may be to convert your video to FLV and have an autorun on the disc that runs an embedded flash video player. In this fashion, with directx you can automatically go full screen (almost as though running an opening cinematic from a game).
The downside is that the project would only be copatible with Windows based PC's, and then for maximum compatibility you'd need to do some research on video capabilities, as well as programming skill (to some degree) for scripting the procedure.
Suffice to say, it sounds like it would be more trouble than it is worth, unless the need is great.

How do I make a video automatically go to full-screen?
    Anybody?

    Hello Ralphie!
When you see in your iBook app, there is a possibility to fit fullscreen, is it ok?
What you say is that the button to set this automatically in full-screen when an user tap on iBook disappeared, you are right. This function does not appear anymore I do not know why.
I suggest you try to contact Apple Support.

  • Crome - stuck in full screen on Second display

    Hello
I am in need of some help here.
I have a dual screen set up
Main display - Apple 30" display
Second display - Apple 23" display
At one point I have enabled full screen mode with Google Crome on my 23" display and I can't get it out of Full Screen.
I have quit Crome and tried to start it holding down different keys - Command, option and also control, (alone not together)
No change, still runs full screen
    UGH - hate it.
I have tried 'esc' and the blue arrows in the upper right of the screen both did not help.
    Thanks
