Automatically Save Local Copy of Sent Mail (IMAP)

Hello - I use an IMAP account (several, actually) but want to save a local copy of all messages (incoming & sent). Mail seems to do this easily for incoming mail but not at all for sent mail, which seems odd and makes me think I'm just missing something. Am I?
To be clear, the IMAP sent mailbox and its corresponding folder in Mail work fine (I know how to set up "use this mailbox for..."): what I want to do is duplicate the contents of that mailbox on my mac automatically (i.e. don't want to continually have to copy messages and remember what's copied and what's not etc.).
Also what's up with not being able to apply rules to mailboxes? Is that fixed in 10.6 version? Thanks in advance!

Thanks Mike - I find the bcc option kind of inelegant and overly elaborate for what should be fairly simple, but in the absence of anything else I guess it's worth a try. On the "rules don't work" front what I meant was that there is no apparent option to apply rules to mailboxes: this issue would be solved if I could say "if mailbox is sent/imap, copy message to sent/on my mac" but the available conditions in rules don't include mailboxes. You know of anything I can do about that? I'd love it if I could get this worked out without having to create 2 copies of every sent message just to save one...

  • How to create an identical local copy of a mail without attachments?

    Hi,
I would like to save a copy of an IMAP-Message to my db without the attachments.
As I cannot modify the original message, I tried to create a new MimeMessage with the constructor MimeMessage(MimeMessage source) and then remove the attachments - this works fine so far, but using this constructor only the body seems to get copied without subject, recipients or from-address.
Can anybody give me a hint how to create an identical local copy of a Message-Object? I would rather like to do this without installing any local third party providers.
    Regards
    Karsten

Sorry, found the problem - I did some things with the InputStream before I should not have - now the message gets saved without attachments and can be reopened.

  • Copy of Sent Mail sent to InBox

I rebuilt my SBS2011 server, which uses Exchange 2010 with Forefront 2010 and I'm using an Outlook 2013 (x64) mail client.
Now any email I send appears in the Sent folder as expected, but a copy also appears in the InBox.  I can't find any obvious settings that might cause this new post-rebuild problem.

  • Sending mail with "sent" is fast, but copying the sent mail is very slow, sometimes takes a minute; can it be speeded up?

After hitting "send", a screen comes up showing a moving bar "copying the mail to the sent folder", the bar goes fully right on
the screen but then I must wait, sometimes a minute for the copying process to complete. Then I always get a screen message
next that says in effect could not copy, so I close that screen and then go to my sent folder and the email I sent shows up. So,
the copy process is very slow and then I get a message could not copy, but in fact a copy does appear in sent folder????
    Thank you

You do not mention how big is the Sent folder.
I would first try to archive a load of old sent emails. This will reduce the file size. Maybe the delay is due to a large file.
    Set up Archive Options:
    * https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/archived-messages
choose to archive by month and year and keep folder structure.
Archive anything older than a month.

  • Sent mail - Imap and Pop

    Hi,
Until recently I was using Gmail Pop on Apple Mail for my emails. I am now using Imap and things seem to have gotten a bit more complicated.
I would still like to use Gmail Pop on a different computer as backup system. I just opened the Pop Gmail and noticed that while I was able to download all the messages I had sent through Gmail Webmail, I cannot retrieve the messages I sent from Apple Mail (Gmail Imap) directly. All the messages do appear however on the Gmail webmail sent folder (well, I guess I should say label, since Gmail does not use folders).
(Just for clarification, the Webmail sent messages always showed up in my Inbox so, as it was the case in the past, I have to drag them manually to the sent folder. Might not be the the best solution but I am ok with this).
I have the feeling this might have to do with Gmail labels or something like it. Perhaps there is a way of labelling Gmail Imap sent messages in a way that can be downloaded to the Pop account. I would really like to download to my Mail Pop account all my Gmail sent messages.
    Thanks,
    Pablo

I looked in my user folder and for one important pop account there are two folders:
one has the domain name after the user name and inside that there is a sent messages folder with mbox messages.
However when I was setting the account up it failed and I had to put an IP number in the incomming mail server box to get it online. That account is listed inside my mail folder as well but has no messages.
How do I get them to merge?

  • Save local copy of projects

    Hi,
We are using PS 2007. Say I have about 30 projects on the server and due to programme closure, i would require to have these projects on my local disk. In normal scenario, i would have to open each project do a save as and save it to the local disk,
and would have to repeat the same for 30projects.
Is there any other way to save all 30 projects to the work space at a time. Please advise.
    thanks
    mp

    Hi Kahsif,
The project files do not contain documents, risks, issues... Those objects are in the SharePoint content DB. Thus you cannot migrate them simply by saving the projects locally and saving them back in 2013.
You have to do a DB migration. See references below for 2007 migration to 2013.

  • Help with Rules to Copy all Sent and Received Mail

    Friends:
    1. I have created a rule to copy all sent mail to a folder as follows:
mail>prefs>rules>add rule>description:All Sent Mail>To Contains @>Coppy Message to All Sent Mail folder
Is there a better way to do this?
    2. Similarly I tried the above for a folder "All Received Mail" replacing "To" to "From" but it doesn't work. What is a good way to copy all sent mail?
    Thanks amigos,
    Migs

    I have been using
If Any Account is <Account in question> then Copy message to <local archive folder>
It has its quirks (I have it as the last rule in the list) but for the most part is sort of working to make copies of incoming mails.
It does not copy outgoing mails.
It would be nice if Mail offered some sort of "copy on send, copy on receive" functionality in the preferences for those of us who don't trust the "cloud" to not reach into our computers and delete our mail (as happened when our IMAP server ran out of disk space once).

  • Automatically save attachments in Mail?

Tried Automator, as well as Rules in Mail, but I can't figure out how to automatically save attachments in emails sent by certain clients. When an email arrives from a client and the email has attachments, I'd like Mail to automatically save any and all attachments to the default downloads folder. Is this possible using either Mail's Rules or Automator? Rules does have an option for running an AppleScript, but I'm no longer up to speed on AppleScript. I'm hoping for a simpler solution.
    Thanks!

If it is going to be called from Mail rules, it would need to be wrapped properly. Here is the script it came from. You would'nt need the on run handler.

  • Archive sent mail - Where did it go?

    Using IMAP.
My mail server has a low mail quota, so I need to Archive frequently, but I use multiple devices so leave what I can on the server.
    My archive settings are :-
Copies and folders: message archives: Keep message archives in: other: inbox 'mymail' on: Archive (Local folder)
Copies and Folders: when sending messages: automatically place a copy in: sent folder on: 'mymail@mydomain' (My IMAP) - the default.
Copies and Folders: archive options: yearly
When I select the inbox (on IMAP server), some mails, and click "archive", the mails go where expected (eg, Archive/Mymail/year/ inbox 'mymail')
When I do the same for sent items (on IMAP server), the mail just disappears.
Where does it go? How do I get it back?

If you are lucky, you might be able to restore individual messages. To do it, open Mail and then, open the Time Machine application (in /Applications/Utilities). Then, choose the backup you want at the right and you will be able to select messages and restore them.
After restoring them, they will appear in "Recovered Messages" in the Mail sidebar, under "On my Mac"

  • Sent mail suddenly not being kept

I just noticed that both mail accounts on our computer are have not kept any copied of sent mail since the beginning of NOv. No e-mail addresses have been changed and all the settings are set for the sent mail to be saved in the preferences...what is wrong? Do I have to reinstall the mail to fix this?

For what type of account - .Mac, IMAP or POP?
If either account is a .Mac or IMAP type account, do you select store Sent messages on the server which is available under the Special Malboxes tab for the account preferences?
If both accounts are POP type accounts, how many messages are available in the Sent mailbox for each account?

  • Why can't I see sent mail / outbox?

In my business, it is important to verify that I have sent a mail message. I just switched from MS Outlook, where it was easy to check the outbox. I can't seem to find the outbox in the Macbook version of Mail. How can I set this program up with a button that will automatically take me to my sent mail folder? What I've been doing is using my gmail account until I can figure out how to make this mail program work.
    Thanks much!

Under normal conditions there should be a Sent-folder after sending the first mail out. If not, try creating a folder named "Sent", quit Mail and start again.
Is the account requiring the Sent-folder of type IMAP or POP3?

  • How to re-download "Sent mail"

    Hi everybody.
I got my new MBP a few weeks ago. As I couldn't transfer file from my old Mac due to disk failure, my mail was lost in space. I didn't panic because I knew Mail would download all my Inbox messages from every account I have.
But here's my problem with the Apple Mail. I have four different accounts set up in Mail (Gmail, Yahoo Mail Plus, AOL and Live). For Gmail and AOL I have the option off choosing to save the sent messages to server. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to my understanding, that means every message I sent using Mail (and particularly those two outgoing servers), I should find a copy inside Sent Mail folder in my Gmail or AOL account. If that is true, it didn't work.
My sent mails using Apple's Mail did not have a copy sent to the server. It's quite an issue for me since I'm nearly facing a law suite because I don't have a proof that was stored in my Sent mails folder. I know Apple declines any liability for this kind of problems, and I don't think there's anything left for me to do to recover the lost messages...
What I do want to know is what to do to make Mail save my sent messages to the server from now on.
Any ideea would be greatly appreciated

Sent mail using Mail is stored in the Sent mailbox on your computer. Incoming mail has an option to leave a copy on the server so that if you are checking mail from multiple places that you can receive the mail eg. iPhone, work and home.
If the info is that important on the failed HD there are places that can recover the data for you for a price. Or you can try something like Disk Warrior, depending on what kind of failure.
Internet base Email services may have a copy of Sent mail stored, contact them for recovery.

I was wondering if there is setting so when you save a picture file, Photoshop will automatically save a copy of the the image in TIFF or RAW format to prevent the loss of picture quality when it is saved as as JPEG. I have one photo editing software that when I saw an open image for the first time, it automatically creates a digital native folder for me with the RAW or TIFF file in it. Can Photoshop do the same thing and if so, how please?  T hank you! Kirsten
