  • Laptop shut down during windows 10 update and now won't startup

Hi, My pc shut down during the Windows 10 installation 2 days ago. Since then I tried to start up the pc, without success.
I tried to press F11 during booting but the laptop just stays with a black screen saying "F11... System recovery", until I shut my computer down.If I press no key during booting, the screen remains black (with a bit of a background light) and stays like this for hours until I shut it down. I also tried to use the trick with holding the power button for 30 seconds when the laptop is turned off (I guess you call it a hard reset?), but that didn't work either.  What should I do to get back to the original Windows 8.1? I would like to use my pc again and if possible, to not loose any of my old documents.

Hi , Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community! I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 17-j000 Notebook and issues with it not responding with a Windows 10 update. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices. It should continue where it left off. Please let me know how this goes. Thanks.

  • My PC shuts down during render after CC update

    Hello all,
I just rendered a video last week with no issues. I updated After Effects CC a few days ago and now my PC shuts off about half way through a render. It is only a ten second clip with very little effects in it.
I have tried different video formats and codecs, I also tried to render the project in Media Encoder and Premiere Pro...the same result. My system is fine and I was rendering videos no problem until this update. Can we roll back updates?
I can't get through to Adobe to get help so I am trying the forum. This video is due tomorrow so I will probably lose a lot of money and a client.

I do appreciate the suggestion, I thought about doing the same approach. I had to dumb down my graphics a lot to at least get the titles done in After Effects. I basically had to recreate my animation, add one effect, render, and wait to see if it shuts down. I was able to render all of the effects, particle systems, motion blur, and camera movements last week with no issues. I updated to AE 12.1 and now I can't render anything but basic applications.
I am now having the issue in Premiere Pro CC after it's update. I rendered out three one minute videos with no problem in Premiere Pro CC last night. I did some edits to a five minute video that I have been working on for a few weeks today, go to render, about half way through...shut down. I am sure that I will have to start another thread on that issue.
I am about ready to get out of Adobe and go to Autodesk for editing and compostiting if these issues keep happening.
Adobe Tech support claims that my PC isn't powerful enough to handle AE and PPRO CC, but I was rendering with both programs with no issues a week ago. There is no problem with my PC. I believe they have no answer to my problem. I may have to reinstall CC and not update, but I know that I need them for other issues in the programs. I am stuck and I have projects due.
Thank you for listening to my venting. I will update if I find a solution.

  • Computer shuts down during startup

    Hey everyone,
it shames me a little to ask for help about computers because I am usually ok with doing this stuff myself.
This time, however, I cannot seem to fix the problem indefinitely.I need a laptop for school and cannot afford another so any help would be greatly appreciated!:
I will just point the facts out:
After a few years use (two) it now shuts down during (windows) startup.
I ended up cleaning the Heatsink/fan yet the problem persisted.
The model is a Toshiba Satellite A200-PSAF6A.
I am no longer under warranty.
The school techs cannot help me.
A few oddities that I noticed:
It starts up fine when the power plug isn't plugged in.
It starts up fine with the power plugged in only in safe mode.
Using CCleaner and Defraggler temporarily fixed my problem (for about 5 minutes or so).
I hope that you guys can help me. It's just annoying that I cannot fix this myself..
If any further information is required please just ask and I will reply with as much haste as I can under my current circumstances.
    Thanks,
    Norak.

During a "cold start" I may get up to the windows login screen and then it shuts down and restarts. (sometimes it doesn't make it to the windows screen and turns off to restart). Then it will start to load windows and the little bar at the bottom will be loading windows and then freeze. I would have to hold the power button down to turn off and restart. Then I start windows normally and it usually works OK, sometimes I have to do this step again, but eventually I get into windows. Then if I shut down and restart it starts up fine, unless I wait for it to cool down.
Since this started happening, I have reinstalled vista 32bit to out of the box condition and updated to the latest bios, to no avail.
Computer has always run hot since new, seems to have very poor cooling. But the fan operates, most of the time on full boar.
Do you think this is a software issue or a component issue, or cold joint.
BTW it will not shutdown at all if I keep the computer in the F12 key settings area,im not sure what this place is called, but you choose to boot from cd here.
Okay, this is weird and I'm not sure if this has anything to do with what I had mentioned earlier. I was having some issues with my DVD drive, it was rattling bad and the spin off time was off causing coasters on almost every blank DVD, so I had the thing sent in for a replacement. They put in a new DVD drive, checked the status of my BIOS (V 4.2 which I had all along) and returned the unit back to me sometime around April 22, 2010 -- ever since the thing was working fine. I'm not sure if the bad drive had caused the unit to work erratically.
Before it was sent in, the issue was of course with the DVD drive, the startup then shutdown problems, plus a whole plethora of other small problems which I didn't bother to mention on my first post. For instance; the illumination lights that controls the media -- sometimes they would not turn off when I shut my computer down. The light stays on even after the computer powers off and I'd have to unplug the AC power cord for the lights to completely shut off.
My initial problems with the laptop was:
    Media lights won't go off,
DVD drive rattles very loudly and burns bad media,
    Shutdowns during startups,
The screen housing would creak every time when I wanted to adjust the position (this happens when I adjust it slowly).
After they replaced the DVD drive, everything seems to work fine. It's been almost two months now and I haven't had issues with any of the above mentioned problems.

  • Illustrator CS2 won't shut down in Windows XP

    Hi,
For some reason I'm experiencing trouble getting Adobe Illustrator CS2 to shut down in Windows XP. Everything in the program works smoothly, but when it comes time to close my file and exit the program it just hangs. I can't access the Illustrator drop down menus or taskbar at the bottom of my screen and need to do an 'end task' (force quit) using the task manager.
Does anyone have any ideas for how I can fix this problem?
    Thanks for your time,
    Bentley

I've been having the same problem just in the last few days (WIN XP SP2, CS2, plenty of drive space, etc.)
Thought it was my update to Norton 360. Saw another post that seemed to eliminate Norton as culprit.
Stumbled across this fix tonight. Seems to be working each time:
    1) Close all AI files
    2) Copy some small text (from any program it seems -- I used email text and then tried the AI HELP>System info>Copy to clipboard)
    3) Exit AI via any option -- AI should close immediately
The copy to clipboard seems to release something AI can't dump on exit.
Interesting to see if others get same repeated results.

  • Mac Pro shuts down during sleep

My Pro sometimes shuts down during sleep.  Nothing will wake the machine and it it not accessible by another other computer on the network.  It has to be manually re-started using the button on the back of the computer.  There are no error messages on re-start.
I have reset the SMC and PRAM but it makes no difference.
    Any ideas?

Perhaps some third-party software that you had previously installed needs to be updated to be compatible with the latest OS X updates.
Perhaps some hardware component is experiencing problems; even the best hardware fails occasionally.

  • MacBook Air shuts down during boot

My Macbook Air (OS X Yosemite - Early 2014) automatically shuts down during boot, with the screen flashes during the loading bar at 40% and then shuts down. I've tried to reboot many times but it wouldn't get past the 40% on the loading bar.
I've also tried the following but none worked:
The Apple Hardware Test shows that "There may be an issue with a memory module." (PPM002, PPM003, PPM004) - though I've checked that the reference code and the definition doesn't match, as "There may be an issue with a memory module." should be PPM001, and PPM002-PPM015 should be "There may be an issue with the onboard memory.". I've sent this message to Apple and they'd only provided the option to visit their retail store.
Also, the Recovery Mode isn't much help either. As do not have a backup of my HD, I'm not able to restore from Time Machine Backup.
So, I've tried to reinstall OS X Yosemite, but it says "Unavailable to install OS X". A website online says that you can resolve this issue by correcting the date through terminal, but the basic menu bar won't appear, in which I'm not able to access Terminal during the Recovery Mode.
Therefore, I've also tried the Disk Utility, which it shows it can't be repaired, with the following messages: Invalid Node Structure (4, 57963), and 2 messages regarding the Invalid Extent Entry (4, 47013) and (4, 40808). The Single User Mode with the command fsck -fy yields the same message.
Is there any other options then to visit the Apple Retail Store?

      Invalid node structure
I'm pretty sure you need more then Disk Utility to repair the drive.

Assuming you have Snow Leopard installed, you can try reinstalling the Mac OS but you'll have to do this from another Mac.

  • Apps automatically shutting down

All too often my iPad apps automatically shut down.  For a second or two the screen goes black, then it restarts at the home screen.  What can I do to stop this annoying problem?

    Hi ronhaus,
If force quitting the app doesen't work, try reseting the iPad (different from restarting). Hold down on both the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds (ignore the red slider button). Keep holding it until the Apple Logo appears. When you see the Apple logo on the black screen, let go of both buttons. This “reset” fixes a lot of iPad issues and might work to resolve the issue you're experiencing.
    Hope this answers your question!

  • IMovie automatically shuts down

my imovie app automatically shuts down - first thing that pops up is "The previous attempt to open this movie failed, do you want to ignore it?  No Yes are my options.  What ever I click, it still automatically closes imovie.

    Hello, PDJAMC,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Yes, you need to have enough drive space for iMovie to work. At least 25 GB free space is recommended. How much do you have? Are you creating iMovies on an external drive? If so, is it Mac-formatted?
Whenever iMovie acts up, it is a good idea to trash its preference file. Close iMovie. Go to YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie.plist
If you also have iMovie 8 installed, be sure to locate the plist that is just imovie. iMovie 8's plist actually says 'imovie7'
Drag this plist to the trash. Reopen iMovie and see if it is better now.
You can also try repairing permissions on your drive, using Disk Utility.
If nothing helps, post back for more suggestions.

  • Re: Restoring windows after sudden shut down during updating

    Hi everyone,
Last night I was updating my windows on my Toshiba laptop, however, my laptop had a sudden shut down during the updating process.
Now when I start my laptop, I am prompted that a system error occurred and I have to insert my windows CD to continue. I never got a windows CD, and nor have I made a recovery disc yet, so is there any possible way for me to log into windows again? I am using windows Vista.
    Any suggestion would be grateful.
    Thanks in advance

    hi dDk,
what is the first rules of using a computer?
*never touch a running system* and of course: *read the f... manual* and *make backups often*
ok this was a bit hard... but this is a common failure to make an update without saving....
now lets see what we can do....
    - i assume that there is no possibility to start in safe mode...
    - hdd recovery is not possible...
    - you have neither a systemdisk of vista nor a system backup
now you are in operators hell....
    - see a servicepartner and ask for assistance, for a small fee he is able to setup your original system
    - get a vista/win7 istallation cd and install it, be aware you loose your hdd backup funktion!
    - try to repair with a "system-on-a-disc" like winpe or bartpe
    - try to make the hidden recovery partition visible to a os booted from cd and run recovery agent from there
if you killed your recovery partition.... bad luck

You probably need to restore your iPad now. Pay attention to the last part of this kb article where it explains about using recovery mode. You may need to restore the iPad using that method.

  • X200 Series 7454-2JU Automatically shutting down.

    Hello All....
Long time reader, first time poster.  Anyways i am having an issue with a couple X200 Series laptops.
The users are reporting that the systems are automatically shutting down with no warning or error messages.  Both systems are running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, and have the Lenovo Systems updates.
I have read somethings online about setting the Automatic Recovery in Windows which i have tried, but with no avail.
Is there anyone who has experienced the same issue? or is still experiencing the same issue?
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    mikiexu,
we came to same conclusion that it mostly happens when it's in the ultrabase.  We ended up rebuilding one of the x200 machines and the user was working fine.  A couple of other users whose pc's we rebuilt still had the same issue.  We concluded that somewhere there was software causing us to drink a 24 during lunch.(JOKE)
BUT....i think i found what is causing the issue.  Look in the Scheduled Tasks in the Control Panel. If you see something there called PMTASK...DISABLE IT.....it is used as power management to set the machine into hibernation, dimming the screen etc.  my gut tells that this is causing the problem

  • When I start iTunes on my home computer (Not a MAC), it automatically shuts down, and gives me the message that the Data Execution Prevention security feature has shut it down...what to do?

When I start iTunes on my home computer (Not a MAC), it automatically shuts down, and gives me the message that the Data Execution Prevention security feature has shut it down...what to do?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • N200 shuts down during boot

    Dear Lenovo,
I have a problem with my N200 laptop. Notebook shuts down during boot. Sometimes it is immediately after "Lenovo screen", sometimes it is when Vista logo appears. I found out that this is always when notebook is "cold". It does't matter if I want to switch on my notebook or if I want to restore it from hibernation or sleep mode. Next thing is that it always crashes when fan starts work at full tilt (I checked the fan but it is clear). When notebook starts correctly then it works without problems. Usually I have to switch it on about three times then it is OK. This problem takes about 2 weeks. I have my laptop about 7 month. Do you have any ideas how to solve this problem?
And another thing - I forget to send registration card to Lenovo and now I am afraid that I will be without warranty. Can I send it still now?
Thank you for answer and sorry for my English.
    Gabi

Yes, problem with the video card sounds plausible! Any not so successful updates recently? It is sometimes to make a good uninstall, which is required to make a good install.
4in1 drivers should - esp. with W98 and ME - be installed while in SafeMode and with all autostarting programs disabled, for example Antivirus and utilities.
Else, since you have a damaged regedit, I would reinstall Windows. You might have done something for example an upgrade or new install the registry, not healthy, has made a note of. Some utilities also overwrite and change system files without good results.
