Automatically start iTunes playing

I use my mac to automatically start up in the morning and have added iTunes to start up as well. Even though iTunes loads up it doesn't start playing. How can I get iTunes to start playing music as soon as it loads up?
Rick

There are several alarm clocks that will start iTunes playing. I use Meridian, but there are plenty of alternatives.
You can also put a song or playlist in your Login Items to have iTunes automatically start up and play that song or playlist when you start or restart your Mac.

  • Automatically start iTunes when iPhone is connected

How do I change the setting on my iphone 4 to tell itunes to automatically start when the phone is connected?
    The option is greyed out.

I had the same issue with Windows Vista. I would plug in my iphone after the new Itunes update and Windows would say "found new device" and try installing drivers. It would then report it failed. I looked under device manager and saw that it was listed as a camera device. I followed the steps found in the following url, and now my iphone is synching. I hope it works for you.

  • Automatically start iTunes on another account

    Hi everyone,
I do have my main iTunes library on my admin account. I use my iTunes library mostly to output on AirPort Xpress and Apple TV in other room.
My kids and wife use the mac under different user account and I was wondering if it was possible to have my iTunes to start automatically whatever the user account in use when you start the computer.
    Thanks,

I can't help, but I am having the exact same problem with Windows Vista. I have had Vista for the past year, and if I have both my account and my wifes account logged in, when I start itunes under my account it also tries to start on my wife's account with the message as previously stated. I have constantly been hoping for an update which would take care of this, but today I just installed 9.2, and I still have the same problem.
I have also tried many different things to fix the issue, including uninstalling and reinstalling, making sure I am using the 64 bit version of itunes (that is the version of Vista I have). Nothing works! Any solution would be greatly appreciated, as I am forced to log my wife off every time I want to use itunes.
I should also mention that itunes is the only application which has this problem.

  • Automatically starting iTunes when connecting iPhone

I have tried searching the community board but I haven't fouind an answer that fits my problem.
    I am running Win 7, iTunes 11.03.42 with a iPhone 4S.
When I open iTunes, Preferences, there is no option to check that says open iTunes on connection.  I remember that from older versions of iTunes.
What do I do to make iTunes start upon connection of my iPhone?
    Thanks, everyone

    Howdy Westslope,
Here is an article outlining a preference that would prevent iTunes from opening automatically.
iTunes 10 for Windows: Prevent unprompted syncing of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH1677
To prevent unprompted syncing for a specific iPod, iPhone, or iPad:
Connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your computer.
In iTunes, select your device (below Devices).
Click Summary, and then deselect “Open iTunes when this Device is connected.”
To prevent unprompted syncing for all iPod, iPhone, and iPad devices:
In iTunes, choose Edit > Preferences.
    Click Devices.
Select “Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.”If this checkbox is selected, any connected iPod, iPhone, or iPad won’t sync without being prompted.
To sync your iPod, iPhone, or iPad when unprompted syncing is disabled, connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your computer, and then choose File > Sync “Device Name” in iTunes, or click your device (below Devices) and then click Sync.
In the second part of that snippet
"Select “Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.”If this checkbox is selected, any connected iPod, iPhone, or iPad won’t sync without being prompted."
It will also prevent iTunes from opening automatically.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

    Hello wigoutlet,
I understand that your iPhone 4s is not recognized by iTunes. The following article may help to resolve your issue:

  • ITunes automatically starts & plays

iTunes automatically starts & plays every 5 minutes (without connecting any device). Is there a way to stop this without turning off iTunes Helper?

I agree with/have same problem as vinfromacton.
I know it's Flash causing the problem:iTunes had been functioning normally until this morning when I downloaded Flashto allow me to listen to archived radio programs on the internet.
Once I downloaded Flash, iTunes startedopening and playing automatically ~ every 2-3 minutes. Annoying as it playsover audio I am listening to &/or recording.
Only fix I've found is to turn iTunesvolume down to zero: does not stop iTunes from opening - it continues to do so- but I don't hear the iTunes audio.
I'm also going to try dr alexander'ssuggestion: Open a blank Playlist > leave iTunes focus there>quit iTunes.
It reopens but at least it'ssilenced....
Haven't tried it but I would imagine uninstallingFlash (need to download the uninstaller from the Adobe website) would solve theproblem. This however would lead me back to my original problem: no Flash >cannot listen to audio archived on the internet and other internet audio...
I'm also going to call Apple: I haveAppleCare. Will re-post after talking to them.

  • Having iTunes automatically launch and play a radio station

    Hi,
Is there a way to have iTunes automatically launch and start playing a radio station under Windows XP?
I am running a small store and iTunes plays internet radio over airport express speakders. I would like to simplify the life of the employees by simply telling them (in case of crash or reboot) to simply double-click an itunes shortcut to have it open and play.
I noticed you can create an Apple script for Mac platforms, I hope there is an equivalent for Windows XP.
    Cheers,
    Lanceloz

iTunes is a little bit strange when it comes to streams, but you can just open the URL (from the info for your stream):
tell application "iTunes" to open location "http://radio2.digitalgunfire.com:8000"
... and since you posted in the Automator forum, you can make a workflow that searches for the name of your stream and starts iTunes playing, for example:
    1) Find Songs in iTunes (whose Name Contains digitalgunfire)
    2) Start iTunes Playing

  • ITunes plays without asking

Every once in awhile, when I am working in some application other than iTunes and iTunes happens to be open but not in use, I hit a combination of keys that starts iTunes playing. Playing while in still in the background.  Does anyone know what combination of keys does this?  Is there a way to prevent iTunes from responding to those keystrokes or must I set the system to intercept those keystrokes for each and every application I might run?

Space bar and return will both start iTunes.

  • ITunes automatically starts playing when iPhone 5 (w iOS 7.0.2) is connected to car radio via an Apple cable

I'm using an iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.2, regardless it is the most recent update
When I plug my phone into my car radio's USB port (Apple cable, not knock off) iTunes starts to play the very first song in my large iTunes library.
I plug into the USB port to charge it and to connect the phone to radio in order to use hands free audio.
I have tried two or three different cables, it happens with all cables and again all are actual Apple cables.
I do not recall this happening with iOs 6 or at least as much.
With iOs 7 it happens every f***ing time. Extremely annoying and dangerous (I may get so frustrated by this that one day I might just smash the phone or the car radio :-) to the equipment.
I have to unlock my phone, go to iTunes and pause or stop the song/iTunes.
The app does not show as being open, that is why I have to go iTunes itself, the old fashioned way, so to speak.
It sometimes happens when I plug my headset in (also Apple brand, the basic ones that come with the iPad and iPhones) to phone and have tried the two different ones I have. It only seems to happen if my phone is not in use (i.e. I am on a call and switch to the headset it does not happen)
Interestingly this issue with the headphones and iTunes automatically starting happened more with iOS 6  and than with iOS 7. Ironically the opposite is true with the car radio, USB port cable, charging and iPhone — it rarely happened with iOS 6.0 but with iOS 7.0 it always happens.
I cannot seem to find a fix here but I do see I am not the only one with this annoying issue.
Please someone (APPLE!)  figure out a fix.
PS I have even considered NOT having any of my music on my phone — none at all —  which not only would solve the problem (I would hope!)  but be extremely inconvenient and defeating the purpose of only having an iPhone vs an iPhone and an iPod.
PPS -  I probably left out something really relevant, like what color is my car , so if I did, please let me know.

I have an iPhone 5 and every time I get into my car, as soon as my iPhone connects to the bluetooth or if I connect the USB cable, the music starts blaring through the car stereo, even if the radio was off. If I am using any of the navigation apps on my phone (google maps, waze, apple maps), and I happen to be lucky enough to have the voice directions working (that's consistently inconsistent), the music will frequently start by itself during navigation, even if I didn't turn the music on. Sometimes the music and navigation voice over will compete with each other at the same time. Sometimes they both go totally silent. Sometimes I'll hear only music. Sometimes only the voice directions. And if make or receive a phone call while the navigation is working, as soon as the phone call ends, the music will always take over again, even if I didn't have the music on prior to. I've checked and re-checked every setting on my phone, in my apps, in my car, and followed all of the suggestions I've found online (note to Apple - there are tons of posts on this topic), and nothing works.
It seems like there should be an easy software fix for this, or at the very least, options to:
prevent the music from starting automatically every time you connect with a cable or bluetooth (insanely annoying)
allow voice directions to temporarily mute music, should one choose to be listenting to music and navigating at the same time
just listen to voice direction - no music!
Better yet, how about just provide options to let the end-user decide when to listen to music.
For a product that is supposed to be "intuitively easly" and/or "just works", this level of dysfunction shouldn't be acceptable. Come on Apple - what are you doing to fix this???

  • ITunes automatically starts playing when I get in my car

I drive a Ford with Sync. I have my iPhone 3GS set to automatically connect to the bluetooth in the car when the car is started. In the past few weeks, I noticed my iTunes was automatically starting when it connected with the Bluetooth. It doesn't play through the car, so I don't know its happening unless I look at the phone and see iTunes playing music.
Is there a way to stop it from doing that? Its draining my battery.

I too have this problem, though not with bluetooth. For me the auto-play starts as soon as I connect my iPhone 4S to the radio with a cable I connect to the AV 1/8" port in the center console of my 2007 Honda Accord. Not only does it start auto-playing as soon as I connect the cable, it also immediately starts playing the first music file in my phone as soon as whatever podcast I am listening to has ended
Like others, I find this really annoying, but also a little dangerous. Because some engineer thought that auto-playing the first music file on a device was what most people would want to have happen, I now have to either (1) think ahead to select and pause my podcast or song prior to connecting the cable, or (2) scramble around to stop the auto-playing file while I am driving. This is hampered by the fact that the auto=play does not instantiate Music when it auto-plays, so I have to locate and start up Music and go to Now Playing before I can stop the file from playing.
I do not believe, however, that this is Apple's fault. On no other device anywhere does this auto-play occur except in my Accord. On the other hand, I see people in this thread with the same problem driving cars other than the Accord. This could just be something I need to work around. A bummer, but definitely a First World problem.

  • ITunes starts and plays songs automatically

I installed Itunes 12.0.1.26 and Yosemite last night and now iTunes starts and plays songs automatically.  What is the problem with iTunes?  Could someone else have my iTunes account?  Should I delete ITunes and re-installed?

I agree with/have same problem as vinfromacton.

  • Nano doesn't automatically start playing when connected to docking station

I have a Philips CD/Radio/ipod player that is compatible with my nano. My husband has the a nano (same generation) and when he connects his to the docking station, it automatically starts playing. He can use the controls on the machine vs on the nano. I can only start playing mine by clicking the play button on my nano.
I've gone through both of our nano's to see if there is a difference in settings and I can't find anything that's different.
    Please help...it's really annoying.

So once you start it, can you then use the controls?
So what does it play when he plugs it in? It seems like he must be pre-selecting something to play, so maybe it's already in progress when he plugs in, and you are not doing that. Put some of his music in your iTunes and tell him to make it work - watch what he does very carefully
Does the ipod player say anything in the manual about more than one iPod or automatic playing?

  • Screensaver never starting when iTunes plays music

    Hi,
I have recently bought a Mac mini that I've put in my living room, connected to my flat screen. The Mac mini is connected by HDMI to my Audio/Video amplifier (Denon) which connects by HDMI to my flat screen. This is fantastic to sit in the sofa to surf the Web and get iTunes playing music in the room.
My problem is that despite the screen saver is turned On in the settings, it never pops up/starts if iTunes is running and playing Music. The impact is that my flat screen is left with static image which is not good. So I can start the visualization in full screen, but I would prefer something automatic to save my flat screen
All my software are up to date (did check a few seconds ago).
This seems somehow something specific to the Mac Mini.
I am wondering if there would be an hidden setting, somewhere, to ensure the screensaver is not blocked or disabled by iTunes?
    Thanks,
    Matthieu
